New Egyptian VP Targeted in Assassination Attempt

A failed attempt on the life of Egypt’s newly appointed vice president has reportedly left two of his bodyguards dead.

According to Fox News, an apparent attack on Omar Suleiman in recent days marks an alarming turn of events in the continuing anti-government protests in the streets of Cairo, suggesting some protesters may be willing to force a violent coup as President Hosni Mubarak refuses to relinquish power.

Mubarak appointed Suleiman as vice president on January 29 after dismissing his own cabinet at the behest of growing protests.  Fox News is reporting that, according to sources, the orchestrated attack on Suleiman was so “well organized,” security officials are classifying it as an assassination plot.

When asked to address the assassination reports Friday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs declined to comment. “I’m not going to … get into that questions,” he said Friday.

Suleiman is expected to meet Saturday with a group of prominent officials to discuss a proposed solution to the country’s crisis, including possibly assuming the presidency on a temporary basis if Mubarak steps down. The LA Times reports:

Diaa Rashwan told Reuters news agency Friday that he and others had been invited to see Vice President Omar Suleiman, an ex-intelligence chief who has the confidence of Washington, to discuss an article of the constitution allowing President Hosni Mubarak to hand powers to his deputy.

The negotiations could allow Mubarak to stay and serve out his fifth term, but stripped of his powers.

In addition to the reported violence against Suleiman, a government official, an Egyptian journalist was killed by a sniper on Jan. 28 at his home near Tahrir Square as he took photos from a balcony.   Ahmed Mohammed Mahmoud, 36, died of his wounds Friday, marking the first first reported death of a journalist in the chaos surrounding Egypt’s anti-government protests.

    Unemployed, rock throwing, hungry people don’t usually use a sniper weapon. I am trying to give up name calling as that is rude and just plain does not do any good. BUT……. Anyone who still believes that Muslim Extremists are not pulling the strings of unrest in Egypt are idiots.

    Don’t forget that Ayers and his wife Dohrn were in Gaza about a year ago to stir up trouble. These two are friends of Obama and their anti-Israel. Check out Atlas Shrugs – Geller details the trip, Ayers book Prairie Fire, and how it ties in with today. She also reminds us of the dinner in 2008 for Rashid Khalidi attended by Ayers,Dohrn, and Obama and the anti-Israel comments made and applause. Was Obama applauding too? The LA Times who endorsed Obama refuses to release the video. It‘s also well known that Obama’s church passed out pro-Hamas literature.

    The EDL (English Defense League) will be marching tomorrow in Luton, England. The demo is in commemoration of the start of the Defense Leagues that have sprouted up all over the world to combat Islamism and Sharia that is threatening the very existence of Western Civilization and freedom.

    Despite the attempted murder of one of their EDL members last week and the fact they are under police guard for all of their safety they are going to continue to make a stand for freedom! I commend them.

    Tomorrow morning thousands of Britons who represent the working class will come out to make that stand along with them!

    I’ve tried to think this one through…. Waddyathink of this…….

    If you are Mubarak, and you have reason to believe the Obama administration is behind trying to push you out of office and is in cahoots with the hard dore left and the Muslim Brotherhood to do so, who would you come out and name as your new VP ??
    I would think that naming an ex- INTELLIGIENCE guy who would know who all the players are in this mess might be a good way to send this administration a message. In other words: HE knows exactly who has been involved in the planning of thiese protests and who are currently involved. Mess with me and I will OUT all of you SOB’s…..
    Hence the attempt to silence this guy.

    I’m thinking this guy knows too much about exactly who has been and is currently involved in getting these protests started. This will not be the last attempt on his life. The hard core left, the socialists, the communists and the radical Islamists apparently don’t take too kindly to the possibility of their being exposed for what they have been up to.

    If this report from Stratfor is true, the Brotherhood is already putting a plan into action:

    The Egyptian police are no longer patrolling the Rafah border crossing into Gaza. Hamas armed men are entering into Egypt and are closely collaborating with the MB. The MB has fully engaged itself in the demonstrations, and they are unsatisfied with the dismissal of the Cabinet. They are insisting on a new Cabinet that does not include members of the ruling National Democratic Party.

    Security forces in plainclothes are engaged in destroying public property in order to give the impression that many protesters represent a public menace. The MB is meanwhile forming people’s committees to protect public property and also to coordinate demonstrators’ activities, including supplying them with food, beverages and first aid.

    According to this piece by Michael Totten, the Brotherhood may be welcomed in Egypt with open arms. Let‘s pray that’s not the case.

      I couldnt agree more. I have been, as an unenlightened American, very supportive of both campaigns. I think Iraq is about to get overrun and squeezed. I think we need to just get out of Afghanistan & let them fend for themselves, why prolong the ineviteable? We need to at least redeploy to Israel & quit playing games with these psychos.
      Let them try to drive us and Israel into the sea. We would have a pretty good Navy backing us up.

    this isn’t a small thing. this is leading into some major change that will affect all of us. be prepared for the possibility. Maybe this will spread into anti-US attacks against our troops in Afganistan and Iraq. Possibly attacks against US embassies around those areas over the next year.

    If all of this is true then I suspect the Brotherhood is envolved along with Marxist agitators or a foreign Government , this event in Egypt is not about a pro Democracy movement. It’s about a economic collapse of middle eastern countries that heavily subsidize their people . Egyptions are use to having food and medicine provided by the Government by reducing prices and the Government went broke. Just like Greece and other countries our media is trying it’s best to spin this as a pro democracy feedom loving movement. The world economy is falling and like Beck said bottom up top down it dosen’t just mean our country it means the smaller countries, the pooer countries around the world. We are going to have to deal with this ourselves soon enough , by the way does anyone believe that pro Government supporters are responsible for the violence? my money is on the Musilm Brother hood and the Marxist’s who there to keep the fire going. This is exactly what radicals do start trouble and spread propaganda accusing others for what their doing.

    This guy will be lucky to make it through the weekend. I agree with cheez, this was a “you’re next” moment for sure. It looks like the streets are turning violent again after a day of peace.
