New England Receiver Missed Part of Losing Game Because of Foot Fetish Jokes

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — New England receiver Wes Welker sat out the Patriots‘ first offensive series in Sunday’s playoff game against the Jets amid reports that he was benched for mocking New York coach Rex Ryan during the week.
Welker received a punt after the Jets’ opening drive stalled. But when the Patriots’ offense took the field, Julian Edelman was lined up at receiver.
In meeting with reporters Thursday, Welker made more than a dozen references to toes and feet, a not-so-subtle reference to recent foot-fetish reports involving Ryan and his wife. On the CBS television broadcast, the announcers said Welker was being punished for his comments.
Asked about the reports, Patriots spokesman Aaron Salkin said, “I guess we’ll see.”
New England’s opening drive ended when David Harris picked off Tom Brady. Welker was back in the game for the Patriots’ second possession.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Mark Sanchez threw three touchdown passes, Tom Brady was sacked five times and the trash-talking New York Jets reached their second straight AFC championship game with a stunning 28-21 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday.
The Jets backed up coach Rex Ryan’s brash talk, forcing the team with the NFL’s best record into rare errors and setting up a date in Pittsburgh next Sunday against the Steelers.
New York led its fierce rival 14-3 at halftime before Brady’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Alge Crumpler and Sammy Morris’ run for a 2-point conversion made it 14-11 late in the third quarter. But Sanchez came right back with a 7-yard scoring pass to Santonio Holmes and finished the upset with Shonn Greene’s 16-yard touchdown run.
The Jets (13-5) kept Ryan’s prediction of a Super Bowl appearance alive. The Patriots (14-3) lost their third straight postseason game.

Posted on January 17, 2011 at 9:37amPeople who whine about certain stories being on the Blaze MUST be liberals. Because it may be of no interest to them, they want it banned, as being beneath their intellectual elitist attitudes to even be forced to read the story title. Whine, whimper, and then click on the story to comment about it when there’s a whole long page of other articles fot them to red and comment of.. Simply Pathetic.

Posted on January 17, 2011 at 8:14amI think this story belongs at The Blaze for one simple reason……. To show that one has to take responsibility for their own actions, and that at least one coach in the NFL will make rules and then back up those rules with actions.
The only problem is that the league has rules as well, and Belichick has not really paid a price for violating them when it came to the videotaping scandal.
Steelers/Packers Super Bowl.

Posted on January 17, 2011 at 3:19amThe important thing to take from this story is that pretty boy Brady and the Pats are done for the season. As a Colts fan, I’m not exactly feeling the love for the Jets, but I can’t stand N.E. Hopefully they’ll beat the Steelers next (ugh, Roethlisberger) and then lose in the Super Bowl to either the Bears or the Packers. P.S., I’m new here, but I’ve noticed a lot of people complaining about the relevance of certain stories posted here. If you don’t care, don’t read it. Just because you‘re not interested doesn’t mean it’s not news. Not everything has to be darn serious all the time. Life might be tough right now, but it’s still life. You only live it once- you gotta enjoy it as much as you can.

Posted on January 17, 2011 at 12:10amActually, Wes is one of their better receiver. I am so glad they lost. I can’t stand the smug photos of Brady and his equally smug wife. What great pleasure they lost. Made my day, week. Now, I am hoping the Steelers beat the Jets. The foot fetish thing is just weird. Yuck. To be penalized one play is nor really a team penalty. What a joke.

Please support My new Blog called Freedom Apparatus. I am a Journalism and Mass Communication Major and a Political Science and Government minor, and I also believe that we do not have enough Fiscal Conservastive Journalism in the press (believe me, it is true) and I think we need more. I am still in my first year, but figured that I should get a start now. Thank you, and God Bless you all.

Posted on January 16, 2011 at 10:36pmHard to single out which Patriot stuck their foot in their mouth given how the whole team choked . Punishing Weckler for pre-game trash talk is absurd. Clearly it destroyed team moral, and cost the whole game . I hope Dick Morris made a grand betting Patriots to lose.

Posted on January 17, 2011 at 3:01amIt is, plz read: I think it is a good news story in the sheer fact that a player was attacking a fellow coach based upon media speculation and it was UNPROFESSIONAL and not something that should be done by someone in his position, a PROFESSIONAL who our children look up to. Personal attacks have nothing to do with the game whatsoever. I commend the coach for taking the hard right over the easy wrong. How often can you say that?? Chomp on that a bit.

The sad thing is I was watching the womens game on MTV the other day and those girls hit harder then they allow in the NFL. If Brady played there he would still cry like a little girl.

Candidly, I’m not sure why this is on the Blaze, other than it is becoming the on-line version of a tabloid, albeit without proofreading, editing, fact checking or original content. Otherwise, it is completely different.
