New GOP Majority Pulls the Plug on House Climate Change Committee

The House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming met for the last time Wednesday as ranking Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner announced the special committee set up by Democrats in 2007 will not meet when the GOP takes over the House majority in 2011.
“This hearing will be the last of the select committee,” Sensenbrenner announced at Wednesday’s hearing. “And while I was initially skeptical of the select committee’s mission, it ultimately provided a forum for bipartisan debate, and an opportunity for House Republicans to share a different view on the pressing energy and environment issues that we currently face.”
Though Sensenbrenner complimented Rep. Ed Markey’s leadership of the committee in the past, The Hill noted Wednesday that the committee has previously been used as personal platform for Markey, D-Mass., an “ardent proponent of regulations to curb climate change.”
Markey has used his committee gavel to bash opponents of climate legislation and rally support for steep emissions cuts. The panel has held more than 50 hearings, which have included attacks on oil and coal companies, robust defenses of climate science and the risks of global warming and promotion of “clean” energy as a major economic engine.

Posted on December 1, 2010 at 11:29pmGood first step. I wouldn’t mind seeing perhaps a new “Energy Committee” to replace the snake-oil Climate committee’s place, something along the lines of:
1. Oil Drilling safety and monitoring methods moving forward – a clear path to reinstating future drilling while ensuring even higher standards of 3rd party policing of rigs vs. self-policing and better emergency response and resource at-the-ready systems and equipment.
2. Streamline and enact immediate licensing of third generation advanced nuclear power reactors to bolster America’s electricity needs now, and a roadmap for the next 50 years.
Now THAT is Change I WILL believe in !

Posted on December 2, 2010 at 12:31amI like the responses you have in your last paragraph to Broker0101, the idea of using carbon nanotube design is very interesting; lightweight and strong with a deep resistance to abrupt impacts. Combine this with the new battery systems I have heard being developed in australia (check sydne morning herald online at smh.com.au in the ‘science’ section) and the results are true American ingenuity come to life.

Posted on December 1, 2010 at 11:17pmEducate, educate, educate.
For the Lefties, please listen. The proof against Global Warming is simple (and remember that it was Global Warming that was considered “settled science”, not Climate Change or Climate Disruption):
Given what we know about regional climates, it’s simply not logically possible for there to be a phenomenon that can be called “Global Warming” in the sense that it has been presented.
See, a global warming trend is completely within my paradigm, but only as an average of regional climate change. And it’s at the regional level where Global Warming as a doomsday philosophy breaks down with knowledge of recent history.
If any region of the world gets colder after one year, then that is a region where the so called Global Warming Trend has not been able to have an effect. The trend in such a region is colder temperatures.
And that’s how you know that Global Warming as a doomsday scenario cannot logically be true, given what we know about regional climates; because if those regions can become colder after one year, then why not all regions?
Global Warming is a lie designed to redistribute America’s wealth around the world. The Obama Administration has a Marxist agenda, and the Global Warming scenario suits that end.

Report Post »The temperature spikes have roughly the same periodicity as recorded temperature and estimates from 1100 AD. or about 1800M in depth. The scale for the temperature should be adjusted to match the last global waming spike that occured @1850 and ended in 1998.
The problem is the really smart people who assigned the assumptions for “Age (BP)“ and ”Temperature (C)” forgot that they were assumptions and failed to address the orignal assumptions based upon recorded data. If this observation is correct we are begining a 400 year global cooling.
The greatest danger from global warming is that someone will believe it and plan to plant palm trees in Deluth.

You and I are pretty much on the same page with this issue, but I do believe there is global warming. But I also believe in global cooling. Whenever someone claims that extremely hot temps in the middle of the summer is proof of global warming, I laugh my butt off. Same thing about cold temps in winter. This planet has warmed and cooled quite few times, and we can expect to keep on following the trend unless a giant rock falls out of the sky and wipes out humanity first.
The only way you will ever get me on-board with going green is when going green is cheaper than using fossil-fuels. That time is not yet here so I’m happy this committee has been retired.
