New Govt Regulations Will Result in Disposal of 100,000 Baby Cribs

New Govt Regulations Will Result in Disposal of 100,000 Baby CribsWhen government waste is examined, the discussion typically focuses upon the monies Congress allocates to government agencies and bodies to use at will. But, what about the waste that government regulations cause in the private sector?

The Heritage Foundation’s Foundry blog has an intriguing piece discussing how new changes in government regulations could result in the mass disposal of over 100,000 baby cribs:

…[the cribs] could be destined for the garbage dump, according to new estimates released yesterday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Despite the large inventory, the Democrat-controlled CPSC voted 3-to-2 against extending [a] June 28 deadline.

Retailers had petitioned for the extension in hopes that they would be afforded more time to deplete their current crib supply. Kids Today has more:

Last week, the National Independent Nursery Furniture Retailers Association, Baby News, USA Baby, and the All Baby and Child Board petitioned the CPSC to allow retailers an additional 180 days…for retailers to sell through existing crib inventory.

They argued that the industry, and particularly small business owners, would be hard-hit if they weren’t allowed time to sell their existing inventory

Originally, estimates put the total number of affected cribs at 20,000. Unfortunately, economic woes created a situation in which stores couldn’t sell cribs as quickly as expected. With the government only providing a six-month window to get these out-of-code items off the shelves, stores simply cannot meet the deadline.

If the situation doesn’t change, this will force businesses to steeply mark down these products, as the cribs that don’t meet the new standards cannot be sold after June 28.

The odd part, as Heritage’s Rob Bluey notes, is that the current cribs haven‘t been deemed unsafe or hazardous and there hasn’t been a recall. These units simply don‘t meet the government’s newfound standards. You can read more about the governmental changes here.

He has 3 facilities and used all american lumber….employed a lot of people….Well, he is now closing his last place up…The American lumber companies get a subsidy if they sell the lumber OUT of the U.S…So the price is way higher here in the U.S.

@Tower… ““U.S. babies are dying at an increased rate….”

I wonder how much of this is related to the increasing drug problem in the US?

It seems to me as welfare spending increases, along with fraud, waste, & abuse, so does the drug problem.

I think we have drug free school zones and then send children home to welfare fueled drug houses. Parents who can‘t be bothered to fix MO’s healthy food or salad, and thus have to feed them 3 meals and snacks at schools.

Death too? As welfare spending increases, more babies die?

Maybe all these deaths are due to drug use and stupidity?

Putting small business out of business? I‘m thinking those ’unsafe‘ cribs can’t be sold at resale shops or garage sales either.

How many have really died? I don’t think government regulation can really make a difference. It just seems to put money into the hands of special interests.

I wonder how many special interests will make out big by selling more government approved cribs?

Sounds like the old way of doing business…special interests write the regs. and include favorable treatment for their own products, job loss and bankruptcy for their competition.

Why does gov‘t need to be in a baby’s crib? More gov’t regulation is not the answer! I lost my job of over 20 years thanks to the FDA and more gov’t regulation.

We as a country have ceased to prosper because of regulations and the bureaucratic BS we have created. Our enemies are laughing at us under their breath. These agencies have been given far too much power. They can pass a law or regulation without the approval of congress. Most have no idea of what they are doing

Why does it matter? Nothing of what made America great, what prompted it to grow and prosper and once become the greatest nation on earth continues to exist. It is gone forever. What exists is an illusion kept alive by those who continue to believe that we can again be that nation… but even that illusion is rapidly fading into oblivion. 2012 is too late… 2010 was too late.

We talk of brave patriots like Patrick Henry who said “Give me liberty or give me death”, as we grovel before the TSA and submit to public groping before we board an airplane. Don’t you see? The bad guys won! They’re snickering at us as we line up like sheep… What happened to the spirit we had after 9/11 where we said we’d not submit, that we’d not change our lifestyles to suit those who would taunt us? We turned around and passed the Patriot Act, which directly violates many of the rights set forth in the Bill of Rights… yet we don’t challenge it. Like sheep we give up our freedoms one at a time for the sake of security. Remember, when you do so, you end up with neither freedom nor security.

I’m sure our forefathers are rolling over in their graves, as are all of the patriot soldiers that died in wars fighting for the American ideals. We once stood up in the face of two other super powers in a Cold War that threatened nuclear annihilation… and won. Today we meekly submit to a government (that WE are supposed to control) that directly rules against the majority will of th

Obama is just trying to regulate the economy and bankrupt hard working Americans. This man hates America and our allies. He really hates Britain because Kenya was a British Colony and had a bad effect on his grandfather and father. His grand father was a Mau Mau and went to jail for two years…Of course we know his father was a drunk and was admonished about fooling around with young women when he was going to school in Hawaii. They were about to deport him for his failure to comply with the standards of conduct required by foreign students. That was about the time he impregnated Obama’s mama. Too bad they didn’t before the dirty deed was done.

“U.S. babies are dying at an increased rate. The recent CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report indicates that eight cities in the northwest U.S. (Boise ID, Seattle WA, Portland OR plus the northern California cities of Santa Cruz, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose and Berkeley) reported the following data on deaths among those younger than one year of age:

      “4 weeks ending March 19, 2011: 37 deaths (avg. 9.25 per week)
      10 weeks ending May 28, 2011: 125 deaths (avg. 12.50 per week)”

“This amounts to an increase of 35% (the total for the entire U.S. rose about 2.3%), and is statistically significant. Of further significance is that those dates include the four weeks before and the ten weeks after the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster. In 2001 the infant mortality was 6.834 per 1000 live births, increasing to 6.845 in 2007. All years from 2002 to 2007 were higher than the 2001 rate.”

Who cares about the babies that die? Our government certainly doesn’t! It is outrageous and tragic that our government and many of our doctors don’t care. Certainly we will never see medical officials caring about the deaths of infants caused by vaccines on a regular basis. The government’s identity has grown to such beastly proportions these days that everyone who is not “them” is an enemy, even the babies.
What do medical officials really care when a baby dies from vaccine complications? What do FDA officials do to block out the guilt and pain of knowing that they caused a lifetime of suffering for a young child when they allow dental mercury amalgam (toxic waste dumps) to be put right in their mouths? Do they care about peoples’ iodine deficiencies that leave them more vulnerable to the radioactive iodine from Fukushima? Do they care about the wreck and ruin in millions of peoples’ lives suffering from the toxicity of fluoride deliberately put in the public’s drinking water supplies?
And do you honestly think they are going to care about babies dying and fetuses being underweight from the radiation exposure coming over the Pacific to the west coast of the United States and Canada? We know the radiation is there for it has been detected and reported on the inside pages of newspapers in small print that one would need a magnifying glass to read. http://www.infowars.com/radiation-is-already-killing-babies/

Take a cue from other industries that have been through this – retailers can buy them from themselves, then, sell them as ‘used’ beds – of course, its probably illegal to sell used baby beds – california prohibits selling used mattresses – the mattress industry ‘convinced’ lawmakers that it is dangerous to buy a used bed. After all, they ALL are infested with bed bugs, aren’t they? I mean, the second you buy it, it is magically infested – regardless of how clean it is kept, regardless of hygiene, regardless if it was just used as a prop in a model home.

Of course, if you sell “THE FRAME” for a decent price, you can GIVE them the used mattress.

I imagine if you sold the FRAME of the baby bed, you could give them the mattress similarly.

This is one of the many reasons government regulations are wrong – even IF – and that is a BIG “IF” – even IF their motives were pure, it is impossible to micro-manage a nation’s economic engine. It is called ‘central planning’ and it has faile, every single time it has been tried in history – call it socialism – call it communism – call it marxism – IT DOES NOT WORK.

Even that’s a little lax; all government agencies need to be required to PROVE that the regulations they write are Constitutional BEFORE they become law, and any agency which has more regulations which are not Constitutional than are needs to be abolished !!! THE STANDARD ? ..ORIGINAL INTENT !!! As for Congress and Executive Orders; they too should be required to prove the Constitutionality of the laws they write BEFORE they are the Law of the Land !!! { As for abolishing Congress or the President, (one can dream!) I suppose we’d have to stick to recalls and impeachment to agree with Original Intent ! ! } Once that’s enforced, someone should look at ALL those already on the books.
