New Leader of Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center Is Straight

The Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center’s mission state is to serve the lesbian, gay, transgender, and bisexual community of the Greater Sacramento area and surrounding counties and its allies by providing space, diverse programming, advocacy, and cultural competency awareness in an affirming, compassionate and safe environment. The naming of the center’s new executive director has surprised some, not for Shara Perkins Murphy’s policy or outreach plans, but because she’s straight.

CBS Sacramento spoke with Murphy at the city’s “Sacramento Pride 2012”  festival over the weekend, where she explained that from her new position, she will serve as a voice for equality.

“I think there’s a lot of parallels between the civil right struggle of African Americans and the civil rights struggle of the LGBT community,” said Murphy, who is an African-American woman. “People should care about this because prejudice somewhere is prejudice anywhere.”

In her bio on the center’s web page, Murphy further relates her position to the civil rights movement of the 20th century:

As a black woman raised in Sacramento, Murphy has seen Sacramento and the region change and diversify. The deed for her and her husband’s
Tahoe Park home (built in the 1940s) states that non-Whites cannot occupy the main house on the property. Yet, in 2002, Sacramento city was recognized as one of the most racially and ethnically integrated cities in the nation. She believes the LGBT movement is making the same strides for equality and justice.

California Governor Jerry Brown recently issued a proclamation declaring June 2012 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month. CBS video from Saturday’s festival in Sacramento:

      Homosexual activists are dedicating their lives to mainlining sexual deviancy. As one psychologist noted, homosexuality, becomes for many, “the central value of existence, and nothing else–not even life and health itself–is allowed to interfere with the pursuit of this lifestyle.”

      They’re sick and they love it.

      That there are so many within their population who feel that way is the reason that AIDS and other diseases, almost exclusively…or mostly…. of homosexual origin, spread so quickly and dramatically within the homosexual population and into the mainstream. Most homosexuals just don’t care if they are infected or not or if they give their deadly illnesses to others. That’s what makes the group, as a whole, so dangerous to the health of the population at large.

      It was politics, not science, that pressured the American Psychiatric Assn. to drop homosexuality as a mental illness. The affliction was taken out of the American Pschiatric Assn’s DSM list of mental disorders back in 1973.

      Even sympathizers with the APA’s decision admited at the time that politics, rather than science, was the chief reason for removal. It’s really no secret, but, like every other issue involving homosexuals, lies and obfuscations were utilized in order to cover up that fact.

      It’s important to note that only 20% of the APA voted to remove the illness. 80% did not.

      Sexual deviancy is part of the radical leftist agenda.

      Actually, you DON’T have the right to “Marry” your homosexual lover if you don’t live in a state that has legalized it. As long as the Federal Government doesn’t do anything stupid like make it a national “right”, then you have slim pickings. Hope you are willing to move to a state that has made it “legal”.

      I see where you got your 58% figure. Wikipedia, but that consisted of just part of the group.

      The final tally was 5,584 to 3,810 out of about 30,000 APA members, meaning that only about 37 percent of the APA took part in the decision.

      In total, only approximately 20 percent of the organization actually said yes to removal, meaning that as much as 80 percent of the APA did not vote for it.

      But none of these figures change the irrefutable fact that removal of homosexuality as a mental illness was STRICTLY based on politics…nothing else.

      And the situation still hasn’t changed today. Homosexuals are the biggest flakes, oddballs, misfits and liars this country has produced.

    These groups need to have similar percentages of straight people to the general population. The ACLU and NAACP should also be required to employ more whites than blacks since there are more whites in the general population. Otherwise, they are discriminating.

    Oh, gee. Can anyone tell me where it says in the Constitution that there’s a “right” for man on man, or woman on woman, sexual perversions? It’s strange that we no longer call this perversion a mental illness. People who are not mentally ill know that this type of behavior is not normal, but they have duct tape over their mouths, preventing them from saying anything “politically incorrect”.

      Not to play devils advocate, but there is nothing in the constitution that talks about what I like to call NORMAL marriage between 1 man and 1 woman. What we are fighting for is a tradition that has been around longer than anyone who currently reads The Blaze combined. The Gay have to realize that what they do goes against God. Don’t believe in God? Then it goes against the laws of nature. Let them have civil unions, but don’t call it marriage. That’s a term designated for the union of 1 man and 1 woman.

    I’m sick of the entire nine yards. They can be gay, lesbian, smoke salmon, i don’t give a flying blank, but the best thing they could do is keep it to themselves and stop pushing it on god fearing christians. Shame on the media for allowing this to happen and giving them the opportunity to speak, or show the world they are idiots!       Under your conception of sin, praying to any god other than Yahweh or Jehovah (depending on which driver‘s license you’re looking at) is a sin. (Thou shalt have no other gods before me.) Does that mean that anyone practicing a non-Judeo-Christian religion is, as you say, “reinforcing sin”.

      The great thing about the American republic is not that you get to define sin as whatever you want to (free exercise of religion). The great thing about the American republic is that you can’t force your conception of sin on others against their will.
