New Leadership for the RNC: Priebus to Replace Steele

“As Reagan said, ‘Our nation is that shining city upon a hill, and we must work to keep it that way,’” Reince Priebus said, invoking the spirit of former President Ronald Reagan Friday afternoon as he accepted the RNC’s nomination to become the next chairman of the Republican National Committee.
After seven ballots, Priebus, chairman of the Wisconsin GOP, secured the nomination with 97 votes, ahead of Michigan GOP chairman Saul Anuzis (43) and GOP operative Maria Cino (28).
Just an hour before the final ballot was cast, chairman Michael Steele removed himself from the race after it became clear he would not be able to garner enough votes from RNC members to remain competitive in the race.
Priebus, a former member of Steele’s inner circle, won the support of many grassroots supporters in his bid to become the RNC’s next chairman. In fact, Steele pointedly refused to endorse Priebus upon exiting the race, instead throwing his support behind Cino. During the race, Priebus made clear that he stood opposed to many of the decisions his predecessor made and pledged to bring success similar to that of his tenure as Wisconsin’s chairman to the national arena.
Perhaps the most difficult task ahead of the new chairman will be to reign in the party’s finances which currently suffer under a $20 million debt in the wake of the 2010 midterm election cycle. Also at the top of Priebus‘ priority list will be reestablishing relationships with disillusioned donors which eroded under Steele’s watch.
Priebus will also be charged with finding various ways to unite the different ideological wings of the party, most notably looking for a cooperative relationship with conservative tea partiers — a sizable portion of the party’s electoral base.
The term for RNC chairman is two years, meaning Priebus will lead the campaign organization through the 2012 election as Republicans hope to take back the White House from President Barack Obama.
Here is Priebus’ video announcement of his candidacy which touts his leadership in turning Wisconsin red in 2010:

I belong to TWO T.E.A. party groups in my area and when it comes time to vote I VOTE ISSUES and if the guy on the right does NOT stand up to snuff I vote 3rd party.. the ONLY time I didn’t was when I held my nose and voted for Kirk.. and so far he’s 2 for 2 on his votes.. and I expected no less but hop NEXT election someone who’s a REAL conservative runs.. I also DO NOT send money to the RNC I send money ONLY to the candidates I support even IF they are not in my district..Many in the T.EA. party do the same which is WHY we won so many seats..

Excuse me for this rebuttal; however, you make too many radical assumptions to be verified as feasible. The only politically charged name I would afford the President of the United States is “Social Reformist” which, he so eloquently “left the cat out of the bag” when he was asked by Joe the Plumber on October 14, 2008. Are you are going to raise my taxes, “The response was telling.
“Senator Obama: It’s not that I want to punish your success; I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you that they’ve got a chance to success, too. I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.” His words are testament to his logic. Disagree?
Not unlike many other millions of my fellow Americans, I work very, very hard for what little I own. I am a self employed, proprietor of an S Corporation, employ 7 people, (with families) never received a dime in government money, (now I am mad) and you, you self serving ass, you have the courage to call me a racist, bigot, and as good as “white trash”. Speak for yourself, and heed your own words. When the time arrives to reflect and decide on our future track of our country, I know where I want to be. That is with the TEA Party and Conservatives. You, my brother will either leave the US or change colors. I presume and predict the latter.

I cite your quote:
“Senator Obama: It’s not that I want to punish your success; I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you that they’ve got a chance to success, too. I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.
Thats sounds perfectly like Republican dogma to me, specifically the reasons for cutting taxes, the Republican manta of “trickle down economics”, where the wealthy supposedly will spend more and this will trickle (it is hoped) down to stores and services where jobs will thus be created. Sadly this wont work: they wont be spending it at your company. They‘ll spend it at Tiffany’s and in the Bahamas.
And the new label for O seems to be “Social Reformist”? Whats that? That sounds to me like the Tea Party who want to scrap SOCIAL security, Medicade/care, and scrap unemployment benefits. [As Beck said, if you dont have a job after 90 days of unemployment benefits, you MUST be a bum.]
So, do YOU want SOCIAL REFORM of scrapping all these entitlements?? Do you have relatives who use any of this? But if indeed you are this SOCIAL REFORMER-type, good luck to you on your own then in the brutish world we live in. Try explaining it to the millions who depend on it.

Big Government pointed out Priebus’ relationship to stimulus dollar solicitations . Priebus certainly talks the right talk in these Tea Party times, unfortunately, his fondness for liberal catch-phrases, his position as a law clerk for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund in Los Angeles (the same NAACP, by the way, that recently tried to malign the tea party movement as racist), his appreciation for the use of eminent domain to take land from a small business–land it needed to survive–and his profiting from Stimulus funds . . .Priebus, a conservative? It’s extremely unlikely. Apparently, the RNC did not get the message from the Nov. elections, or they have a short memory and took it for granted. Old habits never die. . .after generations of Republicans who have ascribed to the “go along to get along” strategy of bigger government . . .stick a fork in it. RNC is done and deservedly so. Not one more dime to the RNC. Any political money is going to a true conservative with a strong conservative platform.

They are just as able to do what is called on. But when you don’t get the backing of those whom you serve then it is hard to get anywhere in life.
I felt that when Steele was nominated Chairman after the 08 election trouncing that it was just a token gesture and now I fear that it was true… I have very conservative values and one of them is that God is no respecter of persons of wealth, color or gender. He is my example, to bad his children are not as faithful to his ideals.
And those money problems were brought on by those who may have had a problem with Steele as chairman, if you see a marked increase in funding then you will now that my gut feeling maybe true.

Michael Steele was never a Congressman. He ran for Senate but lost. Your “informed” opinion is badly misinformed.

Posted on January 15, 2011 at 8:59amI do not know who this guy is. But I am glad Steele is gone, he was part of the establishment. I hope this new face does what I think he is promoting… conservatism. That would be a nice change of pace. I would like to see the entire lot of career Republicans gone, and replaced with Constitutional Conservatives. One can only hope. Vote 2012!

Just a quick update on Michael Steele from Wikipedia –
From 2003 to 2007, he was the seventh Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, the first African American elected to statewide office in Maryland…..During his time as Lieutenant Governor, he chaired the Minority Business Enterprise taskforce, actively promoting an expansion of affirmative action in the corporate world.[3]
In 2006, Steele made an unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate, losing to Democrat Ben Cardin. He then served as chairman of GOPAC, the political training organization of the Republican party, was a political commentator for Fox News and a partner at the law firm of Dewey & LeBoeuf before making his bid for RNC Chairman. He co-founded the Republican Leadership Council, a “fiscally conservative and socially inclusive” political action committee, in 1993.

I had heard him once or twice on Fox and felt that he was a good choice for RNC Chair. That lasted a whole 28 days and literally, as I was sitting there with my checkbook in my hand, a story turned up that Steele had said “Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh, his whole thing is entertainment. Yes, it’s incendiary. Yes, it’s ugly.” I was absolutely astounded that he would start out by attacking a fellow conservative. And the downward spiral continued from there.

If I had a vote, it would have been for Saul Anuzis, but since Renice Priebus has been elected, so be it. I hadn’t a clue as to what ethnic/racial group either of them belonged to, but I hope that Priebus will not make the same mistakes that Steele made. It’s been a long, tough two years for the RNC. Let’s hope better times are ahead.
