New Low: MSNBC‘s Maddow Claims Rep Had ’Advance Notice’ of OK City Bombing

During her Monday evening broadcast, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow went about making her usual unfounded attacks on Republicans while simultaneously dropping this jaw-dropping accusation:

In 1994, in the first mid-term election after the last Democratic president was elected, we got a slate of candidates that included Helen Chenoweth of Idaho and Steve Stockman of Texas. These two were so close to the militia movement in this country that Mr. Stockman actually received advance notice that the Oklahoma City bombing was going to happen.

Without providing any source for her outlandish accusations, Maddow doesn’t flinch in accusing a member of the United States Congress of willingly participating in the senseless murder of 168 innocent men, women and children.   So where does get the evidence to prove such a claim?  She doesn’t.

Media Research Center explains:

[O]n April 25, 1995, six days after the destruction of the Murrah federal building, the Dallas Morning News ran this story under the headline, “Fax referring to bombing sent by ex-GOP Texas official, party aide says” –

Mr. Stockman on Sunday denied reports that his office passed the fax to the National Rifle Association and failed to give it to the FBI. Yesterday he released a letter to the FBI confirming his version of events.

Mr. Stockman also said that a staff member had given the fax to the NRA without his permission. He said he was considering whether to discipline the aide.

Telephone toll records indicate that the fax was sent about 50 minutes after the bombing , a federal official said.

With further examples, MRC proves that Maddow knowingly ignored the facts and smeared Stockton and Chenoweth-Hage:

Maddow’s mention of late congresswoman Helen Chenoweth-Hage is even more gratuitous than her attempt at character assassination of Stockman. Chenoweth and Stockman “were so close to the militia movement,” Maddow says, that he, Stockman, but not she, Chenoweth, received “advance notice” of the bombing. Chenoweth-Hage, killed in a 2006 car accident, is no longer able to defend herself. Maddow didn’t give Stockman the chance.

    I just to listen to her on my way home from work.. she is way out there.. actually shes the one who got me interested in politics and I started doing my own research and became an independent.. I realized at that point both parties were not who they claim to be.. I am hoping the REPUBLICANS have learned and will return to normal conservatism if not we are screwed.. actually she was really insistent that Bush plotted to take over the country..and make himself king.. but it seems Obama is now up for the job..

      One of my favorite scenes i “Left of the Dial” (documentary about Air America) was their wall-to-wall coverage of what turned out to be George W. Bush’s re-election. It reminded me of that ad with the businessman who offers one child a stuffed horse and the other gets a live pony.

    This is a very poorly worded report. Maddow days he received advanced notice of the bombing. This article quotes someone that a fax was sent 50 minutes after the bombing. OK, but when did he get this information? That he sent it after the bombing doesn’t answer the question of when he first received the notice of the bombing,if at all !. I don’t care for Maddow opinions and bent reporting but this confuses me . I still don’t know when he got the info, just that he passed it a long to the NRA 50 minutes afyer the bomb went off.

      Any metion of who sent the fax? The FBI supposedly investigated this (after this “well-connected militia man” reported it to them – why would he do that?), I’m sure they would have run down that lead. Also, wasn’t the Murrow building explosion the result of two fellows working together? Who sent the fax? Anyone else get the fax?

      I’m curious. Other than the fact that they disagree with you, what evidence can you adduce that either Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann hates America? It’s worth noting that this accusation can be leveled against people like Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh. In their zeal to make the federal government as impotent as possible, Beck et al. deprive Americans of their only remaining shield against corporate domination. Indeed, if they have their way, the United States will soon become an depauperate third world vassal state in thrall to multinational conglomerates, while the American people are reduced to the status of serfs. We’re well advanced along that path already, but do we hear warnings against the danger? Not from the likes of Beck and Limbaugh. Yes, the one and only, Barry Sutero. His OFA campaign (which took over the DNC) has had more corporate donattions than any other campaign. All of the Dem bills have had MASSIVE corporate benefits. They destroy competition to pay back union support. No? Tell me why the EPA wants to increase Ethanol/fuel percentages to 15+ percent. It’s a subsidy to corn growers (AGCO, ADM….massive coporations) and will wreak havoc (and ruin) most fuel induction systems on American vehicles. I wonder if the next step is a voucher for a discount on a volt or some other government motors car? You guys are all the same. Of course we have such in America as rich, politicaly well connected slumlords pay off politicians to turn a blind eye to their properties. No parties mentioned, but look at the cities with the worst slum problems. See which party has been in power for 30 to 50 years.

      Venezuela is in chaos. Castro admits his economic view is a failure even after hundreds of billions of rubles worth of aid provided by the Russian government. China is becoming more and more capitalist as are most of the socialist countries except N.Korea.

      Crazy. He didn’t recieve the fax before the bombing. He got it minutes AFTER the bombing. Evidently the premier domestic terrorist in American history thought a lot of him.       Isn’t it time for a new reality show, one that really matters and amounts to something?

      Isn’t it time for a pundit reality show where the premise is to undress liberalism, to undress conservative principles and let them go at it freely and openly . . . a cage match of sorts?

      And yes, I know, we already have this reality, but it’s across networks; you have to change the channel or split the screen; and then they only talk over each other, never to each other . . . Even when O’Reilly makes attempts to do this issues never get discussed to any conclusions of thought or to the point of making any true “paradigm shifts,” the ones society is desperately in need of.

      Why can’t we put them in the same room together, for a duration, to see what happens . . . a group of conservative pundits and a group of liberal pundits locked in a fight to the ideological death?

      This brings to mind images of Maddow peeing herself in the corner . . . Mathews, like the proverbial monkey tossing excrement around its cage, will run out of excrement and try to act human and ask for toilet paper . . . Olberman . . . , well, he is why spoons were invented. Remove all sharp objects and bolt the lamps and vases to the tables . . . . Admittedly, there are some logistics problems.

      Maddow, Mathews, Olbermann, they all have the fire within to do this, to champion their causes . . . but let’s see it operate in the face of opposition, the opposition that exist to debunk their liberalism. After all, they should have nothing to fear, liberals that is, they are so enlightened; they should mop the floor with conservative thought a lot like Harry Reid did the other night to Sharron Angle . . . Like Nancy Pelosi does when she hears “The Word,” the greatest word of all words, “the word.“ When she thinks of ”the word” she loves the word; it’s the best word . . . aw hell, it’s a stupid idea. The liberals will all be peeing themselves, tossing excrement, and always talking Olbermann down from the chandeliers . . . might as well just turn on MSNBC.
