New Poll Shows Both Romney and Santorum Beating Obama in Head-to-Head

Why are Republicans so gloomy? The latest Rasmussen Reports Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows the two leading Republican candidates for president each beating President Obama in a head-to-head this November:
“With the perception growing that he will be the GOP nominee, Romney leads President Obama by five points in a hypothetical 2012 matchup. Today’s numbers show Romney at 48%, Obama at 43%. That’s Romney’s largest lead since December. Matchup results are updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update).
If Santorum is the Republican nominee, he is up by one point over the president, 46% to 45%. This is the second time since polling began in 2011 that Santorum has had a slight lead over Obama. Romney is the only other candidate to lead the president more than one time in the polls.”
The strong showing for Romney and Santorum may come as a surprise considering the positive jobs report released from the Labor Department Friday showing the economy added 227,000 jobs in February, a performance expected to boost the president’s case for reelection. The Washington Post reports that Republicans reacted to the jobs report as the economy recovering “in spite of” the Obama administration’s policies.
During an interview on Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital with Al Hunt” airing this weekend, Rick Santorum said the administration “has consistently seen, you know, bad job reports because of bad policies that have led to those job reports,” he said. “And eventually, you know, the economy does recover, in spite of the headwinds that this administration has put in its place.”
A Gallup report Thursday showed that U.S. unemployment, as measured without seasonal adjustment, increased to 9.1 percent in February from 8.6 percent in January and 8.5 percent in December.
The Rasmussen poll released Saturday also showed that only 25 percent of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way President Obama is performing, in comparison to 44 percent who Strongly Disapprove. As for Tuesday’s upcoming primaries, the poll showed the GOP race in Alabama essentially a three-way tie, and Mitt Romney retaining control in Mississippi ahead by eight. Nationally, Romney now leads Rick Santorum by 12 points. Regardless of who they want to win, Rasmussen notes 80% of Republican Primary Voters nationwide believe Romney will be the party’s nominee.

Generally, speaking Rasmussen’s stats are the closest thing to reality.
He doesn‘t care who wins as long as his numbers are right and he’s said so.
Remember, this is the guy that started ESPN and built their computer database for stat tracking. So if there’s one thing he knows, its stats.

Posted on March 10, 2012 at 8:11pmKeep remembering that Obama was elected by only 30% of registered voters. There was a 58% turnout and of the people who actually voted, 52% voted for Obama. Multiply 0.58 and 0.52 and you get 0.30. Just 30% of registered voters saddled us with Obama. Forget about the polls and just vote. He has not gained followers.

Posted on March 10, 2012 at 6:38pmDon’t believe those unemployment numbers, they’re Commie lies. Real unemployment is more like 15 or 20 percent. The Commie/Democrats are doing what they always do, like what they did with Franklin Roosevelt, start a Depression and then hope it will let the Commies to take over because people are so desperate.
I believe Obama can’t win. Things are so bad everyone can see the truth. It won’t matter who our candidate is, he, or she (Palin, maybe), will wipe the floor with Obama. And we’ll take the House and the Senate too. Then we’ll have a 100 percent Conservative/Republican government and we’ll clear all the Commie/Democrats out of our government.

I don‘t understand why we shouldn’t go ahead a run a real conservative. He’ll win. I honestly believe there’s no chance for Obama to legally win in November. He’s not going to draw the votes. Report Post »Shale oil is different from crude oil. We have never built a refinery for shale oil (at least not on a commercial scale). Shale oil is largely comprised of kerogen, which (as the name implies) is close to kerosene — and that is very similar to diesel fuel and jet fuel. Interestingly, Estonia produces the most shale oil in the world. An Estonian company is in Utah right now working on developing Utah’s shale oil and/or tar sands.

Our primary is in May, California in June and Texas is also late in the season. We are tired of having our primaries decided by East Coast hacks. Last week at a Republican Convention – where there was a straw poll. The first speaker taking the mike said we had to vote for the most electable….Romney. My question is – who has the right to tell me who is the most electable – 8 months out from the election. I’ve had to vote in Primaries far too many times, when the Candidate has already been chosen – so voted for any other Republican still listed or wrote one in as a protest against the primary system as it currently stands. BTW – the stawpoll at Dorchester was won by Romney – I guess some people are still afraid to vote their heart. Clingtogodandguns/JQCitizen – your right even Paul should be able to beat Obama. Just wish our candidates would turn their flames against Obama rather than each other (in super pac ads & debates).

Posted on March 10, 2012 at 5:41pmWell that’s lovely thinking, but it’s almost guaranteed to not happen. Do you realize what a high bar you are setting, even for lackluster Romney? It might be POSSIBLE for Romney, in the same way that it is POSSIBLE (i.e. conceivable) that the Sun wouldn’t rise tomorrow, but Santorum? Ha, never–you think Santorum can win in places like Oregon, California, Washington, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Delaware, Rhode Island, etc.????!!! No way! There’s probably a higher chance of a resurrected Adolf Hitler winning political office in Israel, than there is of Santorum winning a general election in this country, MUCH LESS doing so in a historically unprecedented “landslide.”
Report Post »The Third Archon
Posted on March 10, 2012 at 5:33pmThere’s a world of difference between a poll and an actual general election–Romney might have a genuine shot of beating Obama, but Santorum doesn’t have a chance in hell. He “beat” Obama by 1 percentage point in the poll, hardly statistically significant–do the same poll tomorrow and it probably shows him down by 2 points, and so on and so forth. But, please, Republicans, do field him as your nominee–I’m just DYING to see him in a general election. Doesn’t matter if he wins the general election or not–for me, his distinct and patently obvious stupidity (even compared to the other “geniuses” running our political pony show) disqualifies him a priori from holding office, and makes any electoral victory he could win illegitimate. I will never acknowledge the authority of a Santorum Presidency, I would rather die then see Santorum ruin this country without opposition.
