New Romney Ad Looks to Town From Billy Joel Song

In 1982 Billy Joel released “Allentown,” bringing melody to the sorrow felt by those in the declining American manufacturing industry through the eyes of blue-collar steel workers in Pennsylvania’s Leigh Valley. Almost 30 years later the region is once again experiencing decline, which Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romeny calls attention to in his new campaign ad.

The ad was released the day before Romney’s speech in front of the now boarded-up metal factory Barack Obama visited in 2009 to tout the economic stimulus. LA Times:

“’This president came here and called this a symbol of hope,’ Romney said, standing before the overgrown lot dressed in jeans and a plaid shirt. ‘It is a symbol of failure, failure of his economic policy. He’s out of his depth. When it comes to getting the economy going, it’s just not something he understands.’”

As Romney calls attention to the over 100,000 Pennsylvania jobs lost since Obama took office, 39,800 manufacturing jobs lost since 2009, and 470,774 people looking for work, it seems the GOP frontrunner is already positioning himself for a swing state battle with the President. Confident considering that the first GOP primary is still seven months away.

Dang, the Blaze has deleted all my posts, and won’t post anything. I think we have some thin skinned editors here. They allow virulent antisemites to post, they’ll allow people to propose violence against government officials and allow any person who is conservative to post whatever obscene insults they like.

But it’s not allowed to challenge the faithful here. I guess the editors are too insecure in their beliefs to allow me to challenge, not insult, but challenge the statements of those who post here. That’s wimpy and limp but within the right of those who run the website. Frankly, I understand and don‘t blame you for cutting off someone who you can’t match wits with. I’d do the same for sure.

No- I don’t like Romney either – but just like with Trump, I‘m glad he’s out there bringing up these things…..I‘m not too worried he’ll remain the frontrunner for those that are worried abou that. As I’ve been posting, my Gov. – Rick Perry, will be announcing he’s running in August at a prayer & fasting rally in Houston that the left is going crazy about already. ha! He’s not near a RINO and will be very formidable….and I predict he’ll be the forerunner at this stage of the game anyway. But unexpected things can happen until election time so who knows. Don’t rule Palin out either.

One must learn to think and make critical analysis themselves rather than just someone else’s opinion.

I watched 4 years ago. I studied out McCain, Huckabee, Romney, Guiliani. I don’t put Romney in the same category in any way with McCain……….a professional politician (after his service to our country). Romney lived in MA which is very liberal and democratic so a republican from such a state will OF COURSE be different than from a more conservative, republican state. duh!!

Romney is fiscally conservative, knows how to fly coach, cut the budget and INCREASE the balance sheet in the business world and government. He’s DONE it! McCain had NONE of those skills. Romney VETOED numerous items from the democratic legislature. He stood strong while governor. McCain gave us McCain/Feingold (just like Bush gave us No Child Left Behind…which Ted’s influence.)

Is the Tea Party being “hijacked”?? I thought the TP were those concerned about taxes & government control in Americans’ lives…..from Democrats, Republicans and Independents. I thought they were loosely organized. I’m seeing some TP big groups in what seems “hijacking” to me. Some of the hijacking by some “religious” groups. I see some groups with some angry, hateful rhetoric against candidates while others seem to get a “pass”.

I find it interesting that 4 years ago guys like Levin, DeMint & others supported Romney & MA’s healthcare. Because of Obamacare being RAMMED……..did I mention RAMMED……..down our throats, people have FLIP FLOPPED on their opinions. No one wants to look RATIONALLY at what MA did………just take the word of some “leader” or “loud voice”. While I’ve only recently gotten intelligently engaged in this political landscape, I DO remember the admiring of MA’s healthcare plan. Romney did not flipflop on that………the OTHERS DID. And it seems the Tea Party is livid.

I get the “mandate” issue. Seriously, aren’t we mandated to get car insurance?? Vaccinations for children before entering school? Just a question since I’ve been hearing “Perry” from some Tea Party directions…….how does Perry’s MANDATE of the HPV get passed the TP test? I would be FURIOUS as a parent that my 6th grade daughter would have to get a vaccine designed to prevent sexually active girls from getting cancer. Rea

Romney has tons of REAL experience in the REAL BUSINESS world. He’s turned around financial conditions of businesses, the Olympics and a state government. That is TONS more than any other GOP candidate out there!!! And CERTAINLY more than BHO!!!

For those of your being a purist, or letting radio talk show hosts do your thinking for you……….or letting a certain tea party organization make you throw REASON out the window, you all could certainly be a KEY REASON we will have another 4 years of BHO!!!

I don’t think Romney is perfect, but certainly since the MAJORITY of voters are concerned about JOBS and ECONOMY why would we look for someone better?? I think it behooves ALL who realize we can NOT afford another 4 years of BHO, that we better be careful with ANY…….ANY……motive/move to divide the Republican party in looking for the PERFECT candidate!

Otherwise………I think there will be people with “I am RESPONSIBLE for another 4 years of BHO” stickers on their foreheads!

Ditto! Romney is a RINO of the worst stripe…..I suppose that he would be more palatable if the Charlie Browns decided to recruit Arlen Sphinctor to run against him in the primary, but I think that Snarlin’ Arlen might have a fighting chance. Romney is so bad that he makes newt look good.

BTW, the plight of the blue collar workers in Allentown (and many other places) could be traced back to out of control unions, a hostile business environment created by government (who was in bed in the unions), and a degree of incompetence on the part of management. The sad thing is that the people most effected by this collapse still lack a rear view mirror and continue to blame the “greedy companies” for the closure of the steel mills, mines, etc. I suppose Ron White is correct when he says that “there is no fixin’ stupid”.
