New Series: Get Cozy With Navy SEALs as They Describe Their Lives and What Happens When the Bullets Fly

Where else are you going to hear the ins and outs of combat, battlefield stress, hazing antics, and other insider information from former Navy SEALs over a couple of cold ones? Unless you know a good corner pub where they all seems to gather and reveal these details, you probably should check out the SOFREP’s series “Inside the Team Room.”

Former Navy SEALs Tell All in SOFREP Web Series

The 27-part series launched a couple months ago in an effort to share a perspective that “Hollywood production companies often get it very wrong.” According to SOFREP’s (Special Operation Forces Report) TV website, the series was also created as a medium where “Special Ops personnel can let their guard down and tell the real story to people they can trust.”

The series, which began on April 29, features former SEALs Chris Osman, Chris Kyle and Brandon Webb and is moderated by Pat Kilbane.

Kyle’s name may be ringing a bell for many Blaze readers. The Blaze has covered Kyle several times, including his bar fight with Jesse Ventura, his interview with Bill O’Reilly about “enemy Iraqis” (regarding his book), and the fact that he is probably the “deadliest SEAL sniper in U.S. history.”

In the most recent episode — episode 10 — the SEALs are asked about combat. “When the bullets start flying, what goes through your mind?” Kilbaned started off.

Kyle shared his thoughts first, saying that training goes into autopilot and that, to the crew, the events are so routine they joke with each other throughout. It‘s after it’s over that the feelings sink in.

“You’re cool under fire,” he said. “But it’s when the fire stops, and then when everything is done is when your heartbeat starts to spike.”

Osman jumped in emphasizing that “you get used to it,” while Webb likens it to skydiving, saying there is a similar a rush nervous excitement and anticipation. “But when you step off that ramp, it all goes away,” he said.

The crew then goes on to discuss the consequences of what can happen when you don’t just “let your training take over.” Watch the rest of the episode (Content Warning: being that these are SEALs being candid, there is some strong, adult language):

In an earlier episode — episode 4 — the guys discuss peer pressure. After describing a couple instances were men in their platoon were “turds,” they get to talking about the pressure there is to continually move up, succeed and get rid of those in whom they sense weakness (Warning: Strong, adult language):

Check out this first episode where they talk about why they decided to become a SEAL and what they did before — hold out to see which one rode in rodeo shows (Warning: Strong, adult language):

To all of you who seem to be so troubled that these FORMER SEALs have decided to give the public a glimpse into what their lives were like really should calm down just a bit…..they know what’s at stake if sensitive info were to be publicized!! Any of the SEALs that are active duty aren’t sitting down for the cameras here and the last I checked, it’s the Obama administration that has exposed more about them than anyone else in my memory. Before the bin laden killing, I could hear the name “SEAL Team 6” and it wouldn’t mean anything to me but within 24 hrs of that, I had come to find out that they were stationed less than 2 miles down the road and we had international media showing up everywhere trying to learn more about them!! I’m a Navy brat, lived here just about my entire life, but I’ve never met an active duty SEAL….that I know of, that is….but I‘d have no way of knowing because they don’t talk about what they do ;)

wasn’t Ventura leaving the country a long time ago or something?? guess that didn’t work out so well….bet he planned it to turn out differently when he was grandstanding and delivering his rant against the gov’t……or he just likes to hear himself talk

Gentlemen — thank you for your steady service to our country regardless of the politics at home! I had the please of serving w/some of your brothers as an Admin DH for an EOD unit that had many SEALs as part of our team. Later, in Desert Storm I got to work w/some of your USAF counterparts.

To you all — your gift of courage and bravery go underestimated. A hearty — HOOO_YAH! to your all!

And to the guy who said parades are meaningless — you are wrong. They mean a lot to those of us who return en masse. These men of SPECWAR/SPECOPS seldom get to see the parade. They are first in, first behind the lines, first to die, and last to see the rewards of their efforts.

Funny, the part about the tough love I found very interesting. I am a retired submariner and I saw the same mentality while underway. We all picked on each other trying to find each other’s weak spot and then zeroing in on it. It was like blood in the water the moment we found one and everyone jump on it. The more sensitive members were almost always the weakest when it came to dependability and the moment they would walk into the shack everyone would change how they talked around him.

After reading “Lone Survivor”, “Service” (both by Marcus Luttrell) and “A Soldier’ Dream” about Cpt. Travis Patriquin (not a SEAL, but a damn good soldier anyway) I have the utmost respect for all of the men and women serving our country. Thanks to all of them. Chris Kyle was mentioned and elaborated upon in “Service”, so I feel I already know him. I’m glad to hear about the series.

Much respect to all branches of service. This series does not disclose any OPSEC issues however, we do discuss serious issues like PTSD, Stress of Combat and Family etc..

I appreciate everyone checking it out and sharing your comments.

I certainly have little room to speak on this matter, but as a civilian working with the DoD who possesses a government clearance, this is just unsettling. There’s still an over-riding need-to-know restriction that applies to everything, even if not actually classified. I just don’t have a good feeling about our special forces starting to talk about “stuff” publicly. Just my thoughts.

      LALA76,
These guys aren’t giving anything away here. If you would like for people to stop taking about America’s
actions, maybe as a DOD employee, you might as your boss to keep his mouth shut.
Just saying. You know what I mean.

I thank god everyday and pray for our men and women in uniform that protect our freedom. I also thank god for those who run to the gunfire or into burning buildings to save others while the sheep flee to safety.

As a vet and a father of a current serving soldier, I believe that we should honor those who go to war. I just find in a little disconcerting that the SEALS are so open. In Vietnam, you heard about these guys but they were ghosts. Nobody knew much about them and those that did, didn’t talk. They were known as guys you did not want to tick off. the ta

It seems that the SEALS have taken a new direction with disclosing more information than before. I guess the tactic is to intimidate the enemy with capabilities.

      Don’t you know?

It’s all about social media! Not to mention reality programs aired on nearly every conceivable channel via the media (television and internet):

Gotta tell everyone about everything that has ever happened!

      Ah, the younger generation.

To me…. Honor is a Personal thing: only you know why you Served; what you did; what were the hardships & fears; what was Luck; and the result of getting out whole. Other people cannot relate… speeches are boring… and a Parade is just more waste.
