New Video Shows Deadly Airliner Fire in Siberia

Russian state TV has aired dramatic footage of an airliner fire that killed three people in Siberia on January 1. The Tupolev 154B caught fire as it was taxiing for takeoff in the Siberian city of Surgut, about 2,100 km (1,350 miles) east of Moscow. Within around 100 seconds the fire completely destroyed the plane, leaving a pile of metal debris. With assistance from airline and ground crews most of the 124 passengers were able to claw their way through the smoke-filled cabin and escape before the explosion.

According to the Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin, investigators cannot rule out that the deadly burn-up of a Tupolev-154 airliner in Surgut in Western Siberia was a terror attack.

The known casualty toll is three dead and 34 hurt. The fatalities include a child. All surviving casualties are in hospital with injuries, burns or symptoms of toxic inhalation.

The disaster struck moments into a flight to Moscow during a take-off attempt. One of the engines caught fire, causing a blast in a fuel tank. Emergency services did their best to promptly evacuate the plane

They said most of the 124 passengers were able to claw their way through the smoke-filled cabin and escape before the explosion. Does this mean some died?

@7.62AIRMAILCOMEGETIT,I worked with the brother of the firefighter that was in Pentagon parking lot. His last name is Wallus,he witnessed the plane coming in. He had to jump under the ambulance to escape the flames. He’s interviewed on the dvd inside 9-11.It was also seen by the people on the parkway. Where are the parts to flight 93 in Pennsylvania? Concrete is harder than dirt. For 9-11 to be a inside job,15,000 people would have to be able to keep a secret.

There’s your Russian efficiency for you. The damn plane is on fire and it’s every man for himself as there are no people to help the last few passengers get off the plane. The whole damn crew just ran away. They didn’t even have emergency chutes to slide down on. I didn‘t even know that there are passenger planes in the world that DON’T have emergency chutes.
Also I gotta’ know. How the hell does a fire start inside the plane….?

  It did have slides. You can see one on the forward entry. The one midway left side forward of the wing is hanging out and did not deploy.

It still amazes me anyone got off the plane, though even the three deaths are a great loss. I still will not travel on the planes if not critically necessary. Wonder why the left is not trying to blame this one on the tea-party and the conservatives as well?
