New York Times Snubs Rangel

In an editorial today, the New York Times unfurled its officials endorsements for New York’s upcoming elections, but one powerful incumbent who normally sails through the reelection process has been left off the Times’ choice ballot: Democratic Rep. Charlie Rangel, NY-15.

As has been widely reported, the New York congressman is getting ready to face down 13 ethics charges before a House hearing, including accusations surrounding improper fundraising and shady real estate deals involving coveted rent-stabilized apartments.  Rather than wait for the verdict to be passed down on Rangel, the Times explains, “a better solution would be for voters to look seriously at the five people running against him now.”

The biggest name in the race is Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV, whose father was a political superstar in that area. Mr. Powell, however, has done little in Albany, even by Albany’s do-little standards. He has shown no reason for voters to promote him.

There are four other choices: Vince Morgan, a community banker and former Rangel aide; Jonathan Tasini, a perennial liberal candidate; Ruben Vargas, another campaign regular; and Joyce Johnson, a former chief executive and educator. The best of these alternatives is Joyce Johnson, who, while struggling in the primary, has been a strong advocate for women’s rights and civil rights for many years.

Hey New York Times! What ever happended to the presumption of innocense? Charilei Rangel says he did nothing wrong! Why are you throwing him under the bus? Now, as for me, the reason I don’t support him is that I am against just about everything that he is for – but that is not your problem, right? Is is possible that there is a tiny bit of common sense in the brains of your editorial writers? It’s not much, but I congratulate you anyway

Nope, he’ll get voted back in. Look who votes for him…..all the “where’s my check?” folks. Then he’ll get convicted, thrown in jail and some other lousy democrat will get appointed to his seat. What a joke.

It isn’t breaking the rules until you get caught! Well,Charlie you‘ve been caught but I’m willing to bet that his trial will be a joke and there is a good possibility that the RAT will skate on most of the charges!!!!

Trial by media. The Honerable Congressman hasn’t been found guilty of anything- yet. The people and the powerful both deserve a fair, speedy, and LONG overdue trial. While the wheels of justice are spinning, there are a lot of other folks in Congress that could use a good investigation.

So true Phillip. One of my senators is one of them. Hes done what Walters has done times 10! But hes fourth in line to the power seat. Unless the Repubs haul him up on charges, you wont hear boo about it!

They aren’t the first, back in April Fox News announced that “L.A. Times Declines to Endorse Sen. Boxer in California Primary” of course as you read further it says the LA Times choose not to endorse anyone. Not sure if they have/will endorse Boxer this Nov (because I don’t read them, so I don’t know off hand).

Adam Clayton Powell IV whose father was the Congressman from the same district. Wow the father Adam Clayton Powell Jr. was always in the news for pulling the same tricks Ol Charlie allegedly has done. “Keep the faith baby” was his mantra whenever he was in the news.

What is so sad about this is that most all of these political hacks do this kind of stuff a lot, and probably have for many, many years; they evidently do not see any problem with this kind of behavior at all. After all, liberals are of the entitlement mentality and above it all…..it does not apply to them…just the “little people”, you know, the low class Americans who are just so stupid that we all need them to help us survive, and tell us how to live 24-7…and regulate our every waking moment.. Charlie, ole fellow, hang it up. Time to say bye bye…do not despair, the people of your district will replace you with someone just like you.

Rangal is such a nice guy, too. He represents the NY mindset well, git all ya kan as fast as ya kan for as long as ya kan. Oh, Maybe too much southern accent for NY, but I think the attitude has been captured for Congressmen, Senators, and Wall Street.
