Newly Elected Florida Governor Under Fire for Playboy Connections

The Miami-based Christian Family Coalition is calling on Governor-elect Rick Scott to “stop selling pornography to Latinos.”
At the center of the CFC’s concerns is QuePasa.com, an online social-networking site aimed at Latinos. Scott reportedly owns a substantial number of shares in the online venture. But, according to Politifact, the QuePasa group maintains a working partnership with Playboy Mexico:
Quepasa and Playboy began partnering in 2009 to find and identify “Cyber Chicas” for the magazine’s Mexico edition. Quepasa created an online community that features models wanting to be included in Playboy. Users of the website can go to the Playboy community to vote for and rank the women. Three finalists are forwarded each month to Playboy, which selects a winner. A 24-year-old Brazilian, Fernanda Schonardie, was selected as the first “Cyber Chica” and was featured in a full-page layout in the March 2009 edition of Playboy México.
During his campaign for governor, Scott highlighted his investment in Quepasa.com to show ties to Florida’s Hispanic voter population. At the time, CFC drew attention to the company’s work with Playboy and called on Scott to cut his ties with the company.
Now, CFC is continuing to press on with the issue.
“We cannot have a governor in the state of Florida that invests in companies that sell pornography,” Rev. Mark D. Boykin said, a Boca Raton minister associated with the group, tells Naked Politics. “We are asking that before he takes the oath of office, Gov.-elect Scott gets rid of his stocks from QuePasa Corporation. The governor of the state of Florida should not be benefiting or have an interest in pornography. It goes against our family values.”
In addition, CFC objects, Quepasa.com includes a section for “homosexual sex partner relationship networking.”
The governor-elect has not commented on the CFC’s latest campaign, but defended his association with QuePasa.com during the campaign and accused his political opponents of pushing the issue.

I don’t know what Meg Whitman would have done, but I wish we had given her a chance, I think it would have been better for the people of California with all we are facing.

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 8:44pmIt is true that the people of Florida and the Hispanics do not beleive in sex. Maybe they do, after all they are having more children than white or black Americans and will become the ruling race in the USA in only a few more decades. Of course they are almost universally Catholic and these Christian bigots don’t believe Catholics should have the same rights as the way they worship Christ. Maybe he should sell his interest but let’s get real, why are they actually attacking him? it it truly because he has stock in this company or is it because he does not conform to this groups narrow belief of how to worship the Lord.

I do not expect anyone to pay for my mistakes in life. I do not expect the government to take care of me in my old age just because I screwed up. I accept full responsibility for my actions. I believe in freedom and the person‘s right to choose their own path in this world as long as it doesn’t hurt someone else. Just because I lost my right to drink or use drugs, I don’t expect everyone else to not enjoy a drink or what ever they choose to partake in…as long as who ever is partaking can accept the responsibility of their own actions. I believe in God, and have my own way of practicing a faith and do not push this on others. Nor do I expect others to push their beliefs on me. I enjoyed reading your post, it is honest and refreshing. I do fear for our country though, our rights are being stripped from us and sometimes it feels like there is nothing we can do but watch. I could care less about Scott and his playboy investment. If he takes care of what needs to be done for Florida and participates in the 10th ammendment movement going on….then I’m happy with him. I look forward to reading more from you. We may have come from different lifestyles in different ships but we wound up in the same boat so to speak.

The problem with “open minds” like yours is that all your brains fell out. You defend smut because I suppose you enjoy your sinful pleasures. It shows that you do not have the virtue required to live as free men. Our political liberty is intertwined with religious principles that provide for an inner moral restraint. The more immorality you defend, the more need you have of a master.

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 7:46pmReading some of the comments it is obvious that even some “conservatives” will defend the moral decay of our country and vilify those who stand for righteousness.
“It is in the interest of tyrants to reduce the people to ignorance and vice, for they cannot live in any country where virtue and knowledge prevail. The religion and public liberty of the people are intimately connected: their interests are interwoven; they cannot subsist separately, and, therefore, they rise and fall together. For this reason, it is always observable that those who are combined to destroy the people’s liberties practise every art to poison their morals.”
- Samuel Adams
Every time you defend vice, you enable tyrants. I am not talking about criminalizing all vice and it is a strawman argument to suggest Christians want to do so. I am talking about this prevailing attitude in America that enjoys vice, especially sexual vice, will destroy America. This rejection of moral principles erodes the virtue necessary for a free people to live in liberty.
“Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in the exclusion of religious principle…” -George Washington
“Among a people generally corrupt, liberty cannot long exist.” -Edmund Burke
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” -John Adams

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 3:35amYes it is immoral to cause others to sin. Showing your body to arouse sexual desire is sin and immoral no matter how many excuses you can think of. God did create the human body and in fact said it was “good.” But men’s evil desires have turned what God meant for good into evil and uses it for sinful pleasure. Without individual self-government, there can be no political freedom, for in the absence of moral restraint anarchy will call forth tyranny to maintain order.

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 7:27pmLooks like old fashion American capitalism to me.
From a 10Q filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission just days back:
——
On January 25, 2008, the Company and Richard L. Scott Investments, LLC (“RSI”) entered into a Note Purchase Agreement (the “RSI Agreement”). Pursuant to the terms of the RSI Agreement: (i) RSI invested $2,000,000 in Quepasa and Quepasa issued RSI a subordinated promissory note due March 21, 2016 with 4.46% interest per annum (the “RSI Note”); (ii) the exercise price of RSI’s outstanding Series 2 Warrant to purchase 500,000 shares of the Company’s common stock was reduced from $4.00 per share to $2.75 per share; and (iii) the exercise price of RSI’s outstanding Series 3 Warrant to purchase 500,000 shares of the Company’s common stock was reduced from $7.00 per share to $2.75 per share. Debt issuance costs of $15,901 related to this transaction have been capitalized within the Other Assets section of the balance sheet and will be amortized to interest expense over the life of the note. The balance of deferred debt issuance costs was $10,674 included on the balance sheet in Other Assets at September 30, 2010.

Capitalism on the part of Scott but a bad investment. Que Pasa is about two years out from bankruptcy. Que Pasa recently fell from Over The Counter trading to Pink Sheet trading. Current per share loss for investors is significant, about 0.40 (cents) per share loss. Per share price is crashing as investors bailout. Que Pasa has a accumulative debt of about $165-million. Over in California, Que Pasa defaulted on a sizable loan from BRC Group, a known predatory lender.
Que Pasa is in deep financial trouble and will fail within a few years.
Those folks can scream and holler for Scott to divest himself of stock, but under law, he cannot, nor can he divest himself of this large loan made to Que Pasa. Scott is stuck with this and Scott is losing money hand-over-fist.
Playboy is not pornography. There is no business connection between Que Pasa and Playboy. This “partnering” with Playboy is a ploy by Que Pasa to link its brand name with Playboy to encourage investment in this company.
Those self-righteous folks protesting Rick Scott are too stupid to realize they only need to sit back and watch Scott lose his shirt through a bad investment in this Que Pasa company.
Scott is stuck with this investment, this is impossible for him to divest, least not without suffering huge monetary losses, millions, in fact.

Posted on November 20, 2010 at 2:14pmDR BEATLE comments, “…people believe anything they hear or read ..who attack people on this blog are too stupid to understand the truth.”
Yep. Those people are knee jerk reactionary dimwits. Governor elect Scott simply made a business investment and I believe he is being truthful about wanting to help Que Pasa succeed. Clearly Scott made a bad investment, probably knew the risks going in, this does seem he ignored common sense to help Que Pasa survive. I believe Scott is telling the truth and believe his intentions are good.
Those ignorant people are protesting “Playboy” while Que Pasa has no business ties to Playboy. Que Pasa is simply “referring” beauty contest girls to Playboy for a chance at a pictorial spread which pays quite handsomely. Each girl referred is capable of making a “moral” decision whether or not to appear in Playboy magazine. There is no moral issue here.
More important, this boring information I provide up there is available to anyone. This information is right at our fingertips and only takes a minute or two to find. My shared information clearly discloses Scott cannot, virtually cannot severe his ties to Que Pasa; he signed a legally binding contract.
Scott is telling the truth. Scott is not associated with Playboy magazine. Those protesters are only proving they are blithering idiots.

Posted on November 20, 2010 at 2:37pmHUGH WILLIAMS delights me as always, “I don’t understand how anyone can think Playboy is pornography. When did the nude human body become pornography?”
The day Jesus Christ was born. * evil grin here *
I am tempted to rant about this Christian hypocrisy of rendering our nude bodies as vile and evil. However, if I start ranting I will write a novel in minutes. This will suffice for me to comment there are nude photographs of me all over the web. Our family, we are nudists and have been for decades. This has made us a lot of good friends and has afforded us a lot of fun in life, still does.
Rather than rant about nudism being healthy, I will comment this is clear my propensity for running around nude has not rendered me into a psycho sexual pervert. This is well evidenced by my words here at the Blaze and elsewhere. This is clear I am a good thinking respectful person. I just happen to be naked while typing!
Viewing our nude bodies as vile and evil does lead to mental health issues, such as self-righteousness and sexual frigidity. This causes problems for all of us. This angers me.
HUGH WILLIAMS makes a subtle point, “The models at Playboy are naked not nekkid.”
Ha! You are going literate on us! This is a literary talent on your part to recognize this deep difference between two simple words, “naked” and “nekkid”. This signals me you enjoy intellectual prowess which provides you with a lot of personal power; your mind’s eye sees clearly.
For readers who might not understand Hugh being sharp of mind. “Naked” is a natural state of being which is not offensive. “Nekkid” is alluding to sexual perversion which is usually offensive.
Too often people do not recognize a single simple word tells a deep and complex story often related to our human behaviors. This is a case of a single word being worth “a thousand words”.
Hugh recognizes this. Good for Hugh!

Here in California we suffered a governor race choice between Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown. This is a choice between Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum. Either way, Californians lose. This is aggravating.
Back in 2008, Americans faced a choice between two evils, Obama and McCain. This was a choice between hard socialism and soft socialism. Americans chose the greatest evil, now we suffer.
In 2012 we will have better choices, Sarah Palin or Barack Obama. This will prove a choice between intelligence and ignorance. This will prove a choice between freedom and socialism. I think Americans have smarten up a bit because of Obama and his boys. I think Americans will vote for freedom, will vote for a traditional America. This is a vote for Sarah Palin, who is one of us.

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 9:27pmSNOWLEOPARD, the people of Florida for Governor had to choose between a Republican Mexican-Porno lover (a fact UNKNOWN to most during the election process)
Report Post »who bought his way into office with possible tainted money (fraud was suggested) and a Democrat woman who had lost 25% of the State’s Pension Investment money and thinks Obama is the Savior in every instance. In other words, there was NO choice other than a WRONG one. Where are our “GOD FEARING” LEADERS? And where are our God Fearing citizens?

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 11:33pm@CatB. You are unclear on the concept. As CEO of Columbia/HCA his company was fined two billion for fraudulent practices. That means – hello CatB – illegal. And you‘re okay with your governor profiting from pornography and view that as a positive thing because he’s making money?
Congratulations, you’ve just become an official member of the Tea Party, and your Christianity, patriotism, and loyalty to the United States of America is established. You are now free to invest in the porno industry without guilt.

Posted on November 20, 2010 at 12:48amIt‘s a business and he’s not doing anything illegal but then again its a fascist or a socialist mindset that they should be allowed to control every aspect of your life. I voted for the guy so I’m not pissed and his campaign came out early about his record with his hospital his company paid the fine he apologized for allowing it to happen, no criminal charges have been filled so I don’t know what more people want…I wouldn’t call myself a hypocrite I have a farley open mind to social issues like porn, prostitution and weed I can see why they should be legal and I don’t bemoan anyone for it, I just choose not to do it myself. Just don’t let it harm anyone else and do what you want.

Posted on November 20, 2010 at 2:12amTSA – Its ok to offend Americans, but not ok to offend the very people who brought the need for this kind of sexual assault, naked imaging, requirements to our airports. Now thats just FUBAR.
Heads Up! Obama may do a recess appointment of Andrew Traver a man who advocates the expansion of the prohibited person list to include any person who has ever been treated for any type of mental health issue, to run the BATFE. So it is no surprise that he also supports using digitized medical records in back ground checks. Not only is he a key player in the anti-gun movement, he also favors using gray area regulations to “shut down and imprison gun dealers by any means necessary.”
