Newly-Released Palin Emails Show Her Angst Before Quitting as Alaska Gov: ‘I Can’t Take it Anymore’

Sarah Palin E mails Show Her Stance Before Quitting Alaska Governor

JUNEAU, Alaska (The Blaze/AP) — Fed up with mounting legal bills and rattled by intense scrutiny of her family and work, Sarah Palin was ready to step down as Alaska’s governor months before she left office in July 2009.

Emails released Thursday, most from the last 10 months of her time in office, show she told her husband in April, “I can’t take it anymore“ and complained to spokeswoman Sharon Leighow and aide Kris Perry in March that she had been the target of ”many frivolous suits and charges since the DAY I became VP candidate.”

“I can’t afford this job,” she wrote.

The emails illustrate what Palin has said all along: After running for vice president unsuccessfully with John McCain, she returned to Alaska to find that the financial and emotional drain of her gubernatorial job was too much. She flirted with a presidential run last year, but told supporters she instead was dedicating herself to “God, family and country.” She currently serves as a commentator on Fox News.

In a March 19, 2009, email, Palin complained that more than 150 freedom of information requests had cost the state more than $1 million, adding: “and who knows what all the bogus ethics charges have cost the state.”

She expressed anger at having to pay for her own defense, with a bill that at that point totaled more than $500,000, and said her husband had to go back to work on the North Slope to help deal with the growing costs.

“We’ve all had to pay for our OWN legal defense in this political bloodsport – it’s horrendous – why do you think Todd is on the slope today?” Palin wrote. “I am paying to defend in my capacity as GOVERNOR – actions taken in my official position. This is unheard of anywhere else.”

By the spring of 2009, the emails show, Palin was regularly butting heads with lawmakers of both parties over her absences from the Capitol.

“It’s unacceptable, and there must be push back on their attempts to lame duck this administration,” Palin wrote to her top aides on April 9.

Citizens and news organizations first requested Palin’s emails in September 2008, as part of her vetting as the Republican vice presidential nominee. As the Blaze reported, the state released a batch of the emails last June, a lag of nearly three years that was attributed to the sheer volume of the records and the flood of requests stemming from Palin’s tenure.

The 24,199 pages of emails that were released last year ended in September 2008, as she was campaigning with GOP presidential nominee John McCain. Thursday’s release includes 17,736 records, or 34,820 pages, generally spanning from October 2008 until Palin’s resignation as Alaska governor, in July 2009.

Sarah Palin E mails Show Her Stance Before Quitting Alaska Governor

Tim Crawford, treasurer of Sarah Palin’s political action committee, said Thursday the emails “show a governor hard at work for her state.”

Palin said a series of ethics complaints filed against her contributed to her decision to step down. In an April 2009 email, she commiserated over a story indicating another ethics complaint was to be filed: “Unflippinbelievable… I’m sending this because you can relate to the bullcrap continuation of the hell these people put the family through,” she wrote to aides Ivy Frye and Frank Bailey.

Later that day, in an email to her husband and two top aides, on the issue, she said: “I can’t take it anymore.”

Earlier, after a Feb. 18, 2009, Washington Post story titled, “Back Home in Alaska, Palin finds cold comfort,” was pointed out to her, she emailed her husband. “Would you pray for our strength. And for God to totally turn things around… Enough is enough. May we see victories and feel His hand of mercy and grace.” He replies, “I did.”

The emails indicate her job had taken a toll on her marriage long before she even became McCain’s running mate.

In a Sept. 26, 2007, email to Kris Perry and her husband Todd, titled “Marital Problems,” Palin writes: “So speaking of… If we, er, when we get a divorce, does that quell ‘conflict of interest’ accusations about BP?” Her husband was a former BP employee on the North Slope.

How is it that we have hundreds of thousands of essentially meaningless laws, but there is nothing to stop the disgusting, persistent, character assassination by means of frivalous lawsuits and badgering of a truely decent person. Beyond disgusting.

Spankmonkey loves his delusional hatred of Sarah. Truth be hanged. Never mind that she was looking out for the State, and the mounting costs to it due to the frivolous suits. All those like him can see is that “she quit”.
I wonder if this current waste of POTUS were piled on in the same manner, what would happen? We’ll never know because the liberal press and those like Spanky here, would follow that idiot into hells fire without question. He could stand on the deck of the Titanic after driving it into the iceberg himself, while blaming others.. and they would believe him if he told them things were improving, as the water lapped over their heads… but will continue to hate Sarah with a consuming vitriol that has a life of it’s own.

I am amazed at all the morons on this site. Sara Palin left her office to save the people of her state millions in fees and time spent not focusing on governing. She set the pace for limited goverment in Alaska and her replacement is handling well. If she were a career politician, she would have let the state incure those costs and got nothing would have been accomplished. She did the correct thing.

    Wise up.

Sorry Rasp, I have seen enough from this lady not to care for her to much any longer. I learned long ago, and it didn’t take to long of being in the public eye, too know, you choose you pick and choose your battles wisely or suffer the consequences. God Bless her, but ti seems the media won in her war. Sadly ! But the woman takes to many shots across the isle, not being considerate of who she may be hitting. That;s all fine and dandy, to each their own, but you hit a bull or a bear and don’t take them out, don’t be mad at them for for coming after you and mauling you. SHe may have not meant to hit them, but her careless actions are what lead to it, to many of those on a daily basis and any person would find themselves in trouble. With that being said, she was unfairly attacked on all levels and in ways that were insensitive and disrespectful !

This lady was given a share in the sufferings of Christ. I find it amazing that her character has stood up under such scrutiny. The worse she says is “Unflippinbelivable.” To be a Christian politician who is unashamed of their faith these days is ask for persecution. I admire Sarah Palin and Rick Santorum for doing that. I appreciate Glenn Beck for talking about his belief in the G word! God. You aren’t allowed to say it anymore unless you follow it up with a curse word. Then it is politically correct.

She sparked a drab, complacent, and spineless campaign, that was led by a washed up, “across the isle” compromiser and RINO, John McCain, who pretty much sold everything but his soul and left his balls in Viet Nam, for he sure as Hell did not have any on the campaign trail. SLIMY tactics of THE REAL HATERS !
Attack attack attack. They don’t give a hoot whether there is any TRUTH in it, they will attack with the most slanderous, libelous, vile, lies. They don’t have to prove anything, they just have to create doubt.
      Look at Herman Cain.
We need to FIGHT BACK at every turn!
AK should have covered her legal bills, since they were in her capacity as Governor. Period.
Shame on us for giving in to these slimy tactics.
When this stuff comes out, our response should IMMEDIATELY be, “SHOW ME THE PROOF,” and, “UNTIL THEN, SHUT THE HECK UP!”
We should have NO ROOM for accusation and ennuendo.
We deal in FACTS. The TRUTH. Nothing more, and NOTHING LESS.

As for Sarah’s statement, “If, er, when we get a divorce” – I read that as HUMOR. Otherwise, I think it would have simply read, “When we get a divorce.” I read it as her saying, “this is the sort of thing that could drive people to get a divorce!” and, “I’m sorry my job is having an adverse effect on you too.”

Sarah was a MAJOR threat, and the left could NOT allow her to survive.

What came of the story of obama’s gay lover in Chicago, who obama gave cocaine in exchange for sex? The accuser, a gay man who claims he was the one who received the drugs and who had the alleged gay tryst with obama, still sticks by his claims.
Typical, hypocritical, complicit media. (say that three times fast)

Not only are you a moron Jack Wagon, you are a product of a failed educational system since you read and comprehend at a third grade level. You are a hater and a progressive liberal socialist left wing nut who should not be allowed to express something you really don’t have, your own opinion.

Lawyers, the termites of society. There must be tort reform, legal reform. Law suits are the new weapon used to destroy by economics. Deep pockets always win, even if they lose in the courts.
Loser pays is needed. And, if the loser is the aggressor, he/she also pays a fine to the person victimized.

If Sarah was in the race for the nomination, the Paulbots would be trashing her and calling her a progressive just like the do EVERYBODY else.

They would be yelling “neocon”, “Bilderberg”, “NDAA”, “liberty”, “constitution”, “false flag”……………

Wow, you really are a tool. Heaven forbid people care about those things. You’re right we should put liberty and the Constitution at the back of the list for determining who runs our country.

Yeah, we know you Paulbots are the only ones who care about liberty and the Constitution. You’re also the only ones who read and research. That’s why you know that only one human on this earth can save America and that all we have to do about terrorists is ask them to be friends.

Now go smoke another one and live in your goofy little dream world.
