News Anchor Forced to Deliver On-Air Apology After Saying There Is No Santa

WFLD-TV anchor Robin Robinson took to the airwaves during a Tuesday evening broadcast to let the world — or, at the least, the City of Chicago — know that Santa doesn’t exist. Following the incident, she issued an on-air apology.
On the station’s 9 p.m. broadcast Robinson said:
“Santa is a symbol of the generosity of the season. You go sit on his lap and we’ll take a picture. But he’s not coming down the chimney, he’s not eating those cookies, he’s not bringing you anything!”
This commentary, which may have actually been viewed by children who still believe (after all, 9 p.m. isn’t all that late), was somewhat of a frustrating shocker to some viewers.
Watch it, below (anti-Santa talk begins at 2:55):
Apparently, some viewers weren‘t happy with Robinson’s comments on old Saint Nick. On Wednesday evening, she gave what was likely a forced, on-air apology, saying, “It was careless and callous to say what I said.” Then, she proceeded to read angry notes from viewers.
Watch her apology — which does seem genuine — below:

So when someone doesn’t perpetuate lies, they have no substance, I just want to be clear on that? Because teaching children about Santa coming down the chimney and all that false-hoods does in fact teach children lying is alright. Again, you people disgust me.

First they invented Santa to replace God, then turn around and deny Santa’s existence which…um…he does not exist, but she has to provide an apology for telling the truth. Man have we come full circle or what. I got news for you. The real Santas name is Jesus. He gives all good things to people who repent and believe. I am sure I could show you a million instances where you have practiced the same thing. In this case, it is children and the joy there of. Some of us children have been beaten and suffered some of the most terrible experiences you could ever imagine, Santa Claus was one of the only things I had to dream about at night at times. That was my saving grace. Your a sick fool, quite honestly, I suspect you are a dangerous person to society. People as yourself are broken and shattered in such a way, your behaviors are unpredictable. Don‘t think the great Indians didn’t tell stories of ghosts and spirits just to tell lies, there is great wisdom in these “lies”, as you call them. This is because you partake of the tree of knowledge, guided and driven by fear. What a sad pathetic soul you are.

Children are told in due time the truth and to expose them before it is their time is sad. It is innocent fun for them. With all they have to deal with growing up, let them have a little wonderment in their young lives. I have very fond memories of when I believed in Santa, and it has not skewed my belief in Jesus Christ one bit. Posted on December 2, 2011 at 9:03pmSymbolism is a very effective teaching format and difficult to forget.
Santa symbolizes love and concern for everyone, doing things for others without receiving face to face recognition for his deeds, and the miracles of being able to do wonderful things when your motivation is also wonderful. It is all in how you teach these concepts to your family. All of our kids of age have smartly come to the conclusion that there might not be an actual guy in a suit sneaking into the house, and no need to call the cops when he does, but they know that disavowing Santa makes them an unbeliever, and unbelievers don’t get presents from Santa. When they figure it out they become part of a more wise and knowing club, but still see the fun and imagination of a Jolly Old Elf who can’t resist doing great things for children.
As long as your are not a Pagan, who cares about the use of pagan symbols? Attach meanings you believe in. The evergreen tree represents eternal life (a gift from God) needles pointing heavenward, the candy cane represents the Shepherds hook and his commitment to leave the 99 and find the 1, presents represent the generosity of the Savior, and of course the original wise men bringing gifts, the lights represent the stars of heaven, the creations of the Creator, and the main star represents the star of Bethlehem. Let go of your inner Grinch. Take advantage of the opportunity to experience a special time of year. To quote Charlie Brown, “Good grief!”

Now my parents put it into play was that Santa was carrying out the good things that Jesus teaches us. If we were good towards other kids and not mouthing back to them ( our parents) that Santa would come and reward us for being good. And when we reached the age to understand that it was them that was instilling good qualities in our lives we accepted it, for then we knew that it was the love of our parents and our understanding of Jesus is ways.

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 9:57amFolks, there is absolutely nothing wrong with fairy tales, of which Santa is one, as long as the REAL truths are taught. Children are not capable of discerning between truth and lies at the ages they have Santa. That’s their age of innocence. Once they begin to understand what they are being taught about Christ and Christmas then it is also time to move them away from Santa and begin teaching them that the things they are receiving come from hard work. It’s all about the growing and learning process. We force kids to grow up way to fast these days and that is just wrong. Their minds are not ready so let them be kids. I believed in Santa when I was young but was also raised by Godly parents who taught by example. I have never, ever felt I was lied to in any way. I understood that it was all make believe as I grew to understand.
As the old saying goes, everything in moderation. Let’s let our kids be kids and enjoy being kids. I have a 8 month old grand daughter and she will be raised just as I was, with GOD at the front, and santa, fairy tale characters, etc, taking the proper place in make believe.

Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.” … a lie is a lie, if you profess Christianity, then speak truth.. even when its not convenient for you or goes against traditions set by man, be bold enough in Christ to teach your children the truth, their desire and heart should be on Christ, not a lie/fairytale.

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 11:04am@ truth in Christ. Well said. People don’t like when I say this, but santa is evil. Christians lieing to children and calling it good, calling any sin good is evil. But this is one of the worst examples! This lie causes children to distrust otherwise good parents! I honestly don’t know how or why this ever started. For every person who says they didn’t feel betrayed, you must not have trusted your parents to begin with! I know that sounds harsh and I’m sorry.
The very inocense that people keep talking about taking from kids is taken when they learn that their parents will lie to them for fun.
We need our families to be the solid rock, especially now when kids are lied to all the time out in the world. You may think I’m exagerating, but I know kids who don’t know what to believe about the world. They have said, “I have to find out for myself what’s true, why should I believe the people who told me santa and the easter bunny are real?”
Wouldn’t it be great if you could say to your kids “you can trust me, I have never lied to you.”

You tore up Eliasm for saying basically the same thing. Not sure what part of the post you did not understand. Its what comes out of a mans mouth that defiles him not what goes in. They honor the Lord with their mouths but their hearts are far from him.
The folly of Santa Clause is a Satanic mind trick. When you here the gospel you now believe your hearing just another creative fairy tale and so you push it away. Remember what God has created, Satan turns it backwards like the whole message of Christs birth. Santa appears as light but he is of Satan who also appears as light for he is the angel of light and of lies.

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 1:23pm@LordChamp I like your answers. You understand that there is an age of innocence; I wish more parents did, & made sure their children experienced it. Santa is a story that as our kids grow, they start to understand that Santa represents a feeling in their hearts that helps them express kindness towards others. My kids & grandkids have been taught that Jesus is the reason for Christmas, He is who we adore, not Santa. I keep a favorite statue on my hearth during Christmas, it is Santa, with his hat off, on bended knee in front of the baby Jesus in the manger. It works for our family

Posted on December 2, 2011 at 5:40pm@Lordchamp Your right. Small children are not capable of discerning between truth and lies. So that means we are supposed to make it more difficult for them by confusing them what truth an lies are? Our job is to help them become strong in the truth and we need to teach them right from the beginning the difference between truth and lies and how to route out lies.
My children are learning how to distinguish between plastic men politicians and honest statesmen while the rest their age are still believing in Santa. They don’t need Santa go be happy — they are some of the most joyful children around.

You can’t even say he does not exist because the whole Santa thing has become a sacred false religion based on not hurting kids feelings. This coupled with the self esteem movement, give everyone a trophy is what has ruined a once tough and hardy people. Most here agreed with Adam Corrola, most agree that we have become a self centered generation but ask yourself for once how in the world did we get here?
Try to remember your own world views as distorted or as real as they may have been and remember how they changed with what the world fed to you to make you believe in only yourself. Follow only your own heart. Thats not the message of God. We are to be obediant to him alone. Follow him and Love only him with all your heart and soul. But if someone says that the world would like to lock them up and take their kids away.

I have to pipe up about this reporters choice to announce to the world there is no santa. She is free to accept that, but is also free to understand that she has a voice that is listened to in in homes across Chicagoland and should understand that children are listening to her at any given moment. If she ‘breaks the santa news’ to children that still believe in him, she should expect flack. I for one, would not like that my child would have heard her say those words, as I believe that my children should be allowed to have a fantasy about a gift-giving santa. But in the same token, we are teaching our children about God and real reason for the season == Jesus Christ aka our gift from God aka Emmanuel – God with us.
A forced view from a member of the media on a topic of Santa/Easter Bunny/Religion/Politics is unexpected (minus the last) at best and unwanted for sure.

Posted on December 3, 2011 at 3:05pmThank you for posting that link. I was going to post it, too.
Ms. Robinson, please read the information at the link. Further, let me share something from the movie Secondhand Lions. This is the “What every boy needs to know about being a man” speech (just a piece of it, as the character Uncle Hub says):
“If you want to believe in something, then believe in it. Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things that a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor….courage and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love… true love never dies.”
Imagining Santa Claus or Saint Nicholas as real as children helps us to meet and become the true Santa that dwells within each of us. Whether you believe in God or not, Santa embodies and engenders good things within us, including charity, joy, wonder and hope, especially in real or figurative seasons of long nights. Ms. Robinson, I feel perhaps someone trying to be “realistic” and “practical” took the childlike innocence of believing in the kindly spirit of people, and of hope from within from you. Don’t take it from others. Please imagine Santa for yourself, meet him, and live him. It is an experience you are not likely to regret, and one you will likely find you want to share.
In the words of the poet, “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good n

While never taking away the magic of the love of the season, I have never lied to my children, my grandchildren, or my great grandchildren about where the presents come from… I know that this is just a personal thing for me, yet, what it did to me I would never want to happen to a single innocent child in my life. Until then I believed my parents and believed in them, they were the solid in my life. Why lie over such a silly thing to begin with is beyond me…. Oh, as I got older I went to the unabridged dictionary and looked up Old Nick and was shocked, majorly shocked at what I discovered there….wow
If I could not trust them after the Santa thing, how could I trust them about God??
In my own experiential knowledge I know for sure that God is in all the love and beauty known to man as can be framed as well as that which cannot by him and that came because I love the Truth, which always vindicates itself having no agenda… A lie is a lie is a lie regardless … there are no “good” lies no matter what the reason. Santa is not a person but a state of mind. He is the spirit of giving and making people happy. telling your kids about santa for 10-12 years will not land your kid in therapy when they are older and if it does they have bigger problems.
