LONDON (AP) — Britons are snapping up the last edition of Britain’s best-selling Sunday tabloid News of the World, after the 168-year-old muckraking paper was brought down in a phone-hacking scandal.
The 8,674th edition apologizes to readers for letting them down, saying “quite simply we lost our way” and acknowledging that “phones were hacked.”
Allegations the paper‘s journalists paid police for information and hacked into the voicemails of young murder victims and the grieving families of dead soldiers prompted Rupert Murdoch’s News International to shut down the paper.
The media baron is expected in London later Sunday, where he will face the growing crisis caused by the scandal.
The last edition included a 48-page souvenir pullout and quotes from George Orwell on the back page.

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 11:30amIt is not the press just going after him! Prime Minister Cameron has had to start 2 enquiries on his BFF Murdoch and Brooks! Police enquiries on top of that! Even James Murdoch has admitted to signing checks to hush people up who were hacked! Paying police is corruption! This scandal being called Cameron’s Watergate!

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 9:00amSorry, little off the subject or is it?
Found this:
This time at the Brooklyn Museum of Art where they will show “Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture,” an exhibit on homosexual and lesbian themes.
As part of this exhibit, there is a blasphemous video by David Wojnarowicz, who died of AIDS in 1992, with a scene of ants crawling on a crucifix.
This same blasphemous exhibit was removed from the Smithsonian in November of 2010 due to a huge public outcry.
Now the Brooklyn Museum of Art has decided to show it!
In my opinion, this is an outrage against the Sacred Person of Our Lord Jesus Christ and we cannot remain silent about it. I want to add: where are the liberal, Obama loving, clergy on this? Jesus is Lord for many of us and many gay people want to attack him. Pray Christians, Pray.
Most likely they will receive an award from Obama for promoting his “gay” agenda. Vote him out in 2012

Report Post »hat is Obama’s “gay agenda”? You do know that the does not support same-sex marriage, right? And that the efforts to reverse DADT were lead by military official and personnel?

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 8:43amI say shut them all down until we find out who the hell, “unidentified source” is.
Let’s start with the New Yak Times. Until they give back the Pulitzer Prize they accepted for lying about Stalin’s starvation of millions of people, they don’t deserve to print anything but garage sale ads.
Close down CBS. Does anyone remember the lying liar Dan Blather?
I could go on, but until we open the books of all news media and find out who the “sources”, are they use to smear their opponents, we might as well return to our dull lives of sports, reality TV and Hollywood propaganda movies.

They admitted to not giving all the emails or other evidence in the first enguiry! Rupert set a 20 million pound fund when it was just thought to be stars and royalty! Posted on July 10, 2011 at 8:26amFirst I’ve heard of this tabloid (don’t keep up on tabloids, U.S. or Britain) or the scandal but I have to say it doesn’t suprise me. I wouldn’t be suprised if media outlets here in the U.S. do the same sort of things. The MSM here is just as evil (and yes I do mean evil) in their ways of “reporting” the news and IMO what’s worst then their “reporting” are the stories they don’t report. But back on track, I hope someone or many people from that tabloid go to jail. They darn well deserve to.

Report Post »I will have to say “kudos” to Murdock because with this incident he is willing to “make right” by shutting down “Britans best-selling tabloid”. SInce especially tabloids are a BIG money maker, for him to shut it down, he shows that he is not willing to sacrifice honesty for money. I say “WAY TO GO” to Mr. Murdock. Like him or not this does show that he has character!

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 11:46amScandal? No Scandal. Murdock was probably looking for a way to shut the paper tabloid down. Paper anything these days are lost causes. I don‘t even know why it’s news – gossip tabloids come and go all the time.
Report Post »jill098
Posted on July 10, 2011 at 1:57pm@BoiseBaked Not a scandal??? So you believe corruption of police officers is nothing? You believe it’s ok to hack murdered girls voice mails? You believe it’s ok to hack fallen soldiers emails and voice mails??? Hack the families of fallen soldiers voice mails? You think it’s ok to hack voice mails of the 7/7 bombing and their families? You think it’s ok that James Murdoch admitted to paying hush to people that were hacked? Murdoch did this to over 4000 people! Do you also think it’s ok when they held back emails and other evidence during the first investigation? So you then must also agree with Rupert about setting up a 20 million pound fund to pay people who had been hacked, when it was just known about the hacking of stars and royalty? This will be Prime Ministers Watergate! You do remember how that worked out for Nixon right?
