WXIA reports:
One unfortunate motorist on Windy Hill Road in Marietta slid backward on the icy road, and tried to spin his tires to get out. That didn’t work out so well for him. His car ended up catching fire — directly across the road from where 11Alive’s Paul Crawley was set up for a live shot on the dangerous road conditions.
The car ended up catching fire on live television as Crawley yelled to the driver to get out.
Cobb County Fire crews showed up to put out the fire, and the hapless motorist was not hurt.

Posted on January 11, 2011 at 3:28pmI think the car that caught on fire is a BMW. Also the fire this weekend that killed the lobbiest in DC was a BMW. Does BMW have a problem they have not reported?

Posted on January 11, 2011 at 11:14amThis is the 2nd Bavarian Manure Wagon to catch fire unexpectedly in 2 days. The woman lobbyist in D.C. died when her X3 or X5 caught on fire as she entered or exitted her garage. Hmmmmm, I wonder if the Obama auto police will go after BMW with the same zeal they went after Toyota? Somehow, I don’t think so.

Posted on January 11, 2011 at 8:56amSeems odd that on the same day, stories about BMW’s burning, with one story being tragic. Possible problems with these cars?

Posted on January 11, 2011 at 1:16amMy problem isn’t with the flaming car. Watch the car that passes in front of the camera at about minute 8:19. They only bothered to clear snow from the driver side of the windshield. There is snow all over the passenger side of the windshield and on the side windows and the back window. How in the world can they see? Come on people, let’s have some common sense… Please! I drive the same roads.

Posted on January 10, 2011 at 5:30pmJust let this serve as a lesson to BMW owners. When stuck in snow don’t spin your tires. Unless you want a new car.

Posted on January 10, 2011 at 5:13pmMy guess is its an electrical fire. Spinning tires won’t start a fire, especially on ice.

Posted on January 10, 2011 at 4:51pmI wish more people would drive SUV’s. I have at least 5 in. of snow in my yard in upstate SC (Yankees may laugh, but that’s a lot down here); it sure looks nice, but I would still appreciate some global warming right now.

Posted on January 10, 2011 at 4:12pmI can’t imagine how his car caught fire like that unless he had a fuel leak.
Report Post »The spinning tires would have heated up, but not enough to set the car on fire!
Poor Bimmer.

Posted on January 11, 2011 at 1:52pmIf you get your tires hot enough to catch fire, it’s over. This happens on big trucks when you ride the brakes down long hills and the drums get real hot, then the drums heat the wheels and the wheels heat the tires. Once they catch fire……

Posted on January 10, 2011 at 4:53pmReporter: ‘I was waiting for the gas tank to explode!’
Rarely do cars explode in a car fire. This guy has watched too many movies. Does he think that the fire fighters would so non-chalantley walk up to the car like they did and fiddle around before they put it out? I really don’t understand how we as a society can take movies as real life so much.
Oh well….it is what it is…. I will end on my own movie quote: ‘I know this steak isn’t real, but it is delicious. Ignorance is bliss!’ – Matrix

Posted on January 10, 2011 at 5:24pmif your car is slipping on the ice just put the pedal to the floor until the motor overheats and catches the car on fire.
Report Post »What a dunce.
Even the reporter thinks the rear tires started the car on fire.
No wonder people voted for Obama. They are idiots.

Posted on January 10, 2011 at 6:03pmGood thing the driver did mannage to get out safely; if someone were to panic while in the vehicle it could have been much worse. And yes, this reporter was watching way too many movies.
Now for the jokes…
“Jeees, man, you forgot the blooming hotdogs at the house?”
“Luke, the death star is over there…”
“But officer, I told them I just wanted a hot wax on the car, not a hot car…”
