Rush, Beck Top Newsweek’s 50 Most Powerful Political Figures

Rush, Beck Top Newsweeks 50 Most Powerful Political Figures Newsweek releases its list of the 50 most powerful, and highest-earning, political figures of 2010 in a special magazine issue this week. The magazine compiled the list, along with an intelligence and research firm, which includes politicians, ex-politicians, media personalities, and political consultants “who hawk their personal brands in the public marketplace—and influence American political discourse in the process.”

Who made the cut? Rush Limbaugh tops the list, with Glenn Beck coming in second ahead of Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity. Jon Stewart rounds out the top five.

You can read the full article, as well as Newsweek’s profile of each figure, here.

Here’s a taste of how it handles Beck:

The early-morning regional radio host, who once struggled with alcohol and drug abuse, found his passions in politics and Mormonism. Left CNN Headline News in 2008 for Fox News; today he is the self-proclaimed protector of American freedom and one of the Tea Party’s leading voices. Earns much of his income—$13 million—through publishing, which includes a string of bestselling books, Fusion magazine, and a subscription-only newsletter. His latest novel, The Overton Window, has sold more than 300,000 copies in hardback since its June release. Makes another $10 million in radio income, $5 million endorsing products like Goldline, $3 million from speeches, and $2 million from Fox News for his tearful talkfest, Glenn Beck. His daily audience approaches 11 million people across four hours of radio and television.*

UPDATE:

Newsweek has issued a correction to its original story regarding the reported monetary figures:

*CORRECTION: We were incorrect to state that, as part of Beck’s $33 million income in the last year, he made $5 million “endorsing products like Goldline.” Rather, Beck made $5 million from online ventures, including GlennBeck.com.  While Beck has endorsed and promoted Goldline as part of that company’s sponsorship of his radio show, we should not have attributed any specific amount of his income to a Goldline endorsement. NEWSWEEK regrets the error.

Isn‘t it nice that Van Jones didn’t even make the list. This just goes to show how much he really knows. When we do get the whole congress back then we really need to see about getting the Jones, Sharptons, Jackson, and all the rest of these idiots back on a boat to Africa. Then they can bad mouth the chiefs over there. They wouldn’t last long though. It’s good to be king, not so good not to be king.

Congrats Glenn!! You said it on your program yesterday (11/1) that you saw that people were no longer afraid. That’s your doing. With your wonderful history lessons, commitment to the truth, and your challenges, you have helped this nation in ways no one will ever really realize. One can only strive to be a positive influence like you, but with only so many trips around the sun, most of us don’t get that chance. Thank you Glenn Beck, and may the Lord continue to bless you mightily. But through Jesus, we will overcome. Col 1:29

There are some American businesses supporting the removal of Glenn Beck from The Fox News Channel, and their slogan is ‘StopBeck’. Their names have been listed on a far left website: http://stopbeck.com/dropped-sponsors/ Some of these businesses have clearly succumbed to union pressure, while others may simply want the exposure of their name to the Democratic Party.
Until Obama is out of office, let us unite in boycotting their products and services wherever possible.

      123gone,

I was surprised by Wal-Mart, which can be found on your list for ‘StopBeck’ companies that pulled their advertising, but they at least will respond to you quickly. I emailed them and got back a response within 30 minutes. I wasn’t pleased with their attitude, but at least they didn’t ignore me.

If you would like to let Wal-Mart know how you feel, do the following.
      Go to this URL… http://walmartstores.com/contactus/feedback.aspx
Once there, choose ‘Company Feedback and Questions’.
      Then click on “NEXT”.
This is the only way you can get an email to their corporate offices, so fill out the form and send.

One interesting note: I looked into quite few of the companies that are on this list and many of them have since started buying ads again on Glenns show.

It is ranked according to Money, so Michelle Bauchman, being strictly a politician has not written any books or made a lot of money on the side, so she wouldn’t be on the list. She is influencial and one of my top picks for President 2012, but money wise she is not raking in the dough like these other personalities. Funny how Clinton hasn’t done anything but still made the top 10 list. Wonder what he has been doing. Supposedly Gore made 500,000,000 in a joing green jobs venture why isn’t he number one?

From the Newsweek article: “the most influential political figures are generally the ones who make the most money peddling their perspectives”

So according to Newsweek, the only reason a person is influential is because of their wealth. Seems backward.

How about coming to grips with the free market economy: The reason these people are wealthy is because of their influence. They know how to communicate a point of view, people agree with them and are willing to pay for it.
