Newt Gingrich Floats Sarah Palin for Potential VP Slot, Cabinet Secretary

GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich is sinking in the polls but nevertheless said he would consider former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a potential vice presidential running mate.

“I am a great admirer of hers and she was a remarkable reform governor of Alaska, she’s somebody who I think brings a great deal to the possibility of helping in government and that would be one of the possibilities,” the former House Speaker said in response to a question about Palin during a tele-town hall Wednesday.

He didn’t stop there — Gingrich also suggested the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate could be a good pick for “some very important cabinet positions.”

“There are also some very important cabinet positions that she could fill very, very well,” he said. “I can’t imagine anybody who would do a better job of driving us to an energy solution than Gov. Palin, for example. Tell her that she would certainly be on the list of one of the people we would consider.”

Palin has held off on endorsing anyone in the GOP race, saying earlier this month she’s not willing to do so “with the field as it stands.”

      Newt would make a good Democratic Governor in some place like Californis. I dunno, is Bernie Sanders retiring? He could do well in that role.

      If Newt is a conservative, then I am ashamed to be called one. He is a Big Government RINO. Sarah Palin couldn’t even get him the nomination. It would be worse than 2008.

      Misleading headline, BLAZE. Manipulative story. But it serves to get people to associate Gingrich and Palin (now doesn’t that just remind you of Mc Cain and Palin?–you know, the ones who LOST to Obama?), which is not a great idea for Gingrich at this time. Palin would not bring along any votes which would otherwise go to Obama– NO WAY. He did not “float” the VP idea– the interviewer did– and Gingrich graciously answered, right away mentioning the Cabinet idea to detract from the VP idea. Thumbs down on this one.

Why not vote for the candidate who has shown the best track record of accomplishments, both in office and in the debates? That is Newt Gingrich.       Newt doesn’t want the job. Coming out with SP for VP should be a big fat clue. I like SP but she is red meat for the media and Newt knows it. His plan to run for POTUS was a very smart business decision that has worked extremely well. He now will want to slip away and let the serious people go about the business of campaining. He and SP have figured out that being Ann Coulter is much more fun than being a politician. Pays pretty well too.

      to NHWINTER: you are mistaken if you think just anyone is better than Odumba. It is that mindset that has led us to where we are today. Another big government/constitution ignoring candidate will still lead us over the brink, only a little slower than Odumba. It all depends upon the people, not the politicians. When WE THE PEOPLE decide to turn the bus around , instead of just slowing its speed or slightly altering its course, we will be making a real difference.     As for Palin, I think it would be a very bad move for her, too. Her association with McCain did her no political favors–it would be the same with Newt.

    I have a hunch about ANOTHER candidate and a possible VP choice, but I won’t even say it because while I may be very wrong, I could be very right and I don‘t want to even take a chance at ruining a good strategy if that’s what may be planned.

      @ashes. I was watching a Saturday Night Live special on VH1. They had a 2008 episode 3 days before the election where McCain appeared on the show with Tina Fay acting as Sarah Palin. It was almost sickening to watch and see that he knew he wasnt going to win.

      I can see you are a fan of Palin. I am not. I never mentioned SNL which is normal for me since that is not watched in our home. I was thinking of the Glenn Beck interview where she said North Korea was our ally. Beck corrected her.

      I disagree with your statement that Obama would tear Ron Paul apart. Americans know who is able to defend Liberty and what is meant by Constitutionally correct domestic, economic, and foreign policy. Paul would tear Obama apart because Obama knows nothing about what the constitution allows and does not allow government to do. And Paul would do it humbly and with class.So who do you think would win that debate….the Constitutionalist, or the Progressive…..?

      Flipper, yes we can respectfully disagree with one another. you are right about the progressives (both democrat and republican) trying to paint Ron Paul as someone who should be kept in an attic someplace. They do this because they know that it is the records of the candidates that people look at. Their records up against his record. It is no contest.

Right wingers agree that she quit for the the good of the state. Those on the left also agree that it was best for the state for her to quit. Everybody agrees that it was a good thing that Sarah Palin quit the governorship, the left, the right, and the citizens of Alaska. So, having failed there, I agree she should be VP or have a cabinet position in the most powerful nation in the world.

      Of course I don’t really. I think it’s absurd. That was sarcasm. But I do hope that President Obama runs against Gingrich instead of Romney. That would be an easier contest.

      Who in our Senate or House of Representatives is not big government? Is it the president that writes the bills? When people wake up and know that our battle is to fight and get conservatives to replace what we have in there now then we will not win the battle, we can say that Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck is the president for all that matters. The way I see it the president submits a budget the president is also the leader of the free world, but when you have people representing you and adhering to the Constitution the president becomes irrelevant does it not. And when people are in office that represent you and adhere to the Constitution that becomes the winning ticket, for if you have a moral majority they can then override his veto. Until we realize this and literally demand they hear us at this time it‘s only right to leave them a message no matter how long they’ve been in office that their time will be up. Out of context you have Nancy Pelosi daughter making a statement that her mother wants to leave but the special interest groups will not allow her if they all get this message that we won’t tolerate it and they can be replaced then and only then will things change.       I appreciate Ron Pauls committment to getting government out of our business, however his foriegn policy is very childish. He isn’t thinking clearly. Even if we stop bombing and warring with the Arabs, their ethos is world domination and they will not stop until every infidel is converted to Islam,

      I wish I could have a mix of Paul, Santorum and Trump in the running. That is probably impossible since it means that at least one politician would need to be firing on all cylanders.

      @WILLIAM You say Paul supporters believe that we are to blame for 9/11..Those were the findiings of the CIA investigations.. as far as Muslims overtaking the world..how do you propose that they will do that..It is my understanding that we have been welcoming them here since 1964..We now have one for President..he was a Senator before becoming President was he not? WHen he became President ..300-350 jobs opened for them in government. and under Obama’s watch..we have received most likely over 2 million more muslim immigrants..Do you think that these wars have kept them out?     Ron Paul says he might not support his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination. In an interview Friday with Bloomberg News, the Texas congressman said the other GOP contenders represent the “status quo” and do not differ much from Democrats. Paul says he would have trouble backing any of them and wants to wait and see if they adopt any of his priorities, such as auditing the Federal Reserve.  ( unrelated to article)

      Ron Paul says he would have trouble backing any of them and I bet that feeling is mutual from all of the other candidates and the majority of the US….but of course I am sure our enemies abroad love Ron Paul. I am against the Federal Reserve too, but don’t want to risk our security as a nation to gain one good thing from a president, when there is much more to worry about. Paul is a failure on the one thing the POTUS should be in place for, to protect American lives.

I have become so disappointed in our news channels, all, as I never see any truth from them anymore. It is just a ratings game with them. War gets them good ratings. War makes big money for the companies in line with the establishment. We have had two families that have been in charge for over three decades in Washingtons most powerful positions. Bushes and Clintons. I am concerned that that does not concern anyone here on The Blaze. You think Romney or Gingrich who have been in league with these same people are going to do anything different than what has been being done? How safe do you feel at this time in history?     Newt is definately out of bounds here, bc he is reaching for straws to hang in there with the tea party. I really can’t see Palin supporting Newt much less being his VP. I see her standing more with Perry, Santorum, or Bachmann, but who knows what will happen…wouldn’t be surprised by anything. I am hoping to see Perry/Palin in 2012.
