Newt Gingrich: Palestinians are an Invented People, Peace Process Delusional

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said the Palestinians are an “invented” people and the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace process is “delusional.”

The former Speaker of the House made his comments this week in an interview with cable network The Jewish Channel, which posted excerpts online Friday.

“I believe that the Jewish people have the right to have a state, and I believe that the commitments that were made at a time,” Gingrich said when asked whether he considers himself a Zionist. “Remember there was no Palestine as a state. It was part of the Ottoman Empire. And I think that we’ve had an invented Palestinian people, who are in fact Arabs, and were historically part of the Arab community. And they had a chance to go many places. And for a variety of political reasons we have sustained this war against Israel now since the 1940s, and I think it’s tragic.”

Asked about peace negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians, Gringrich said, “I think it’s delusional to call it a peace process.”

“We have an armed truce with a Palestinian Authority that’s relatively weak. And on its flank is a Hamas authority which may become relatively weak because it can’t deliver anything. But both of which represent an enormous desire to destroy Israel,” he said. “Frankly, given their school system and the hatred they teach in their schools, often with money that comes from us through the United Nations, I mean I think there’s a lot to think about in terms of how fundamentally you want to change the terms of debate in the region.”

He identified his approach to foreign policy as closer to that of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying he believes in a “tough-minded realism.”

“I believe that if somebody is firing rockets at you, they are probably not engaged in the peace process. I believe if somebody goes around and says you don’t have a right to exist, they’re probably not prepared to negotiate for peace,” he said. “I think if someone says they wanna wipe you out, you should believe them. So I see a much more tougher-minded, and much more honest approach to the Middle East in a Gingrich administration.”

Gingrich was also sharply critical of the Obama administration’s so-called “evenhanded” approach to dealing with Israel and the Palestinians, saying it’s actually “favoring the terrorists.”

“If I’m evenhanded between a civil democracy that obeys the rule of law, and a group of terrorists who are firing missiles everyday that‘s not evenhanded that’s favoring the terrorists,” Gingrich said. “I think they [the Obama administration] actually lie to themselves, I don’t think they lie to the American people, I think they believe the stuff that they say. But is so out of touch with reality.”

He had a large company that got paid for consulting to Fannie and Freddie. He didn’t get all that money, all the people in his company got it. Have you heard him explain his position on a mandate? It isn’t what you think. This is all being distorted to make him look really bad. He has matured and changed many of his ideas. Everyone changes their mind as things in life change. He regrets the video with hag Pelosi. He wants continued work on the environment, but not cap and trade. He want oil and gas from America. You have to listen to what he is say now. NHWinter,

I have heard these positions and he is all talk. I say that because, for example, he says that he is against the individual mandate but he supported it 6 month ago (May 15, 2011 on Meet the Press), now he doesn’t support it.

To go further I say he still supports it. Because of this video from an interview yesterday: http://www.thedailycandidate.com/video/2011/dec/gingrich_health_mandate.html . Now he has reversed it in a 360 degree turn… yes 360 degrees. He says, we shouldn’t mandate people to buy insurance on a federal level. But if they don‘t pay up they should put money into a fund to pay for those that don’t pay their own bills… aka A mandate of you buy insurance or you get fined. This is worse than RomneyCare because its the Federal govt doing it and this is what makes up ObamaCare, buy insurance or you will be fined.. by the IRS.

NEWT GINGRICH STILL, TO THIS DAY, STILL SUPPORTS THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE…

@JNEALER – How have “pals” lived there for 3,000 years? Where are their written histories; their archealogical evidence; their coinage; their kings? Name a pal before the Egyptian arafat. Plus there are 100′s of thousands of “pals” in several ARAB countries. All without citizenship or rights. These particular “pals” are from Syria, Egypt and Jordan.

Archeology, however, everyday confirms that JEWS lived in this so-called disputed land. In other words, it’s not disputed territory (i.e. Judea, Samaria and Gaza) were all won in armed combat – that was started by the ARAB countries. They (The Jews) won. When, in history has a country ever been forced to give back war-booty? If you wish to make precedent with Israel, then the ARABS MUST give back ALL their war booty – which is the ENTIRE middle east.

The Palestine area was settled by other races, including Jews, well before any of those termed “Palestinian” moved into the area. In fact, most of them were KICKED OUT of their own countries because they were such violent groups of people.

Jnealer – what people (besides the Jews have lived there for 3000 years?). The word Palestine didn’t exist that long ago and it was only 2000 years ago that the Romans created the word to describe the area specifically as an insult to the Jews, naming it “Palestina” i.e. Philistine in Latin, after the Jews biblical enemies.

Up until 1948 it was the JEWS that were referred to as Palestinians by the British who ruled the region. Hence, the “Palestine Post” etc.

Newt is correct. 100%. All you have to do is know history.

Palestinians are an invented nation / people. Palestine is a region. Like Prussia. Or Europe. Or America.

Why do you think the IRS asks if you are a ‘Caucasian’ or ‘ Hispanic’ or ‘ black’? Because “America” is a made up nation. It’s an IDEA. A concept. Just like Palestine. We pay taxes to the ‘government’ of America so we can ‘participate’ in that idea.

The so called ‘people’ of Palestine are tools of Arab nations. They could just as well be Arab ‘jews’ for the way they are treated by their so called “Arab” brothers. No Arab nation will accept them. And they are victimized each and every day by every Arab nation as fodder in the effort to destroy Israel.

And they are used internationally, to do so. America uses them. Israel uses them. Egypt uses them. Iran uses them. Iraq uses them. Syria uses them. Jordan uses them. Libya uses them. Bahrain uses them. Kuwait uses them. Turkey uses them. Other nations of the world use them, too.

How long will the world be willing to be the tools of evil? Hard to say. History has a record of people being used right up to the point where they are killed in bunches. What do you suppose history will say about our present condition?

The Palestinians are nothing to with the Philistines, they are arabs, the very earliest of whose ancestors came to Israel in the murderous islamic invasions of the 7th century. The Jews have had an unbrloken association with the land for 4,000 years. Palestine was simply the name of an Ottoman province. People living in that province never identified themselves as ‘palestinians.’ That word only began to be used as an ethnic description after the Six Day War. There was no Palestine until the Roman Emperor Hadrian punished the Jews and Christians for not recognising his murdered lover Antinious as a god by plowing the City under and building a temple to Jupiter over it. He then renamed Israel Palestine for the Greek fishermen who had lived on the coast. Palestinians are Greek not Arab. Also, when Israel was partitioned it was broken off from a larger area known as Palestine Trans Jordan, Palestine on the eastern side of the Jordan River, which we now call Jordan. The Arab Palestinians have a country, it’s called Jordan.

Put the crackpipe down BERNBART. Palestine is the name the Romans gave to Judea, Samaria and Israel after the suppression of the jewish revolt in A.D. 70. In the Latin it’s called “Palestina”. It was done to attempt to remove ALL jewish identity from the region much like what they did to Carthage. Josephus writes extensively on the events and I assure you Gingrich has read Josephus. The Roman historians Tacitus and Suetonius also have good details of the events. The area itself in modern times untill the state of Israel was established in 1947 was called the TRANSJORDAN it was indeed under Ottoman rule for centuries until Syria and Jordan asserted influence over it. After 1967 and the six day war and yom kippur wars Israel gained the Golan Heights from Syria and the Sinai from Egypt. They returned the Sinai to Egypt after Egypt formally recognized Israel. The region never was formally termed Palestine. I’ll let you argue with King Hussein of Jordan who said that the area is kept an open wound by arabs in order to have an excuse to attack Israel.

@avengerk, You have it almost right but go back even further. The Romans renamed the area “Palestina” because it was the name of a group of people living there on the coast in a state of detente, somewhat, with the people of Judea – the Philistines. These have been the arch-rivals of the people of Israel ever since they came to the land.

Seems to me that Drmike11 is pretty much right: Palestine was named for the “Philistines” — even though the Jews were most of the population at the time of the Roman occupation (the Philistines were actually Greeks, BTW). The Romans burned down the Temple around AD 70 and scattered the Jews. I suppose that Philistines were who mostly remained. Then the Arabs came along, conquered, imposed their language, etc. I don’t see how that makes the “Palestinians” a made-up ethnicity. In any event, there has been a “Palestinian State” for over 50 years — it is called “Jordan”.

I’m pleased that most of these comments are factual and to the point. THE ISLAMICS do NOT want peace. They never did. in 1993, Arafat (who died of aids in a Paris hospital and who had a group of young boys travel with him at all time…whose wife took our US AID $ and lives the high life in Paris to this day) … in 1993 Arafat was offered everything and then some for the Palestinian people. He did not go along with it however because that mean he would have to give up control and the money. HE is the one who poisoned the children’s brains, kept the people ignorant and filled with hatred. HE is the one who denied his people any opportunity at the good life which he enjoyed on OUR MONEY. Now they’ve made him a martyr …. as he rots in hell. This trying to make PEACE with people who want only to kill all of us is a joke. WE need a strong man like NEWT there I think. We need him to say: NOT one more dime, boys, until you do ….and lay it out. The fact that we are paying BILLIONS to a ‘state’ that has rockets aimed at Israelis day and night 365 is ridiculous. I hope NEWT gets in and make JOHN BOLTON the SEC of STATE. This is our only route back to AMERICA !!!

Your comment is wrong. Always were Jewish people in that conquest (around XV) by Turkish region. After so many pillaging and conquerors the Kingdom of Israel, the Jews always remained loyal to their faith and its history. Survived despite so often attacked and enslaved, faced horrors as they face today, the people of Israel has been offended and threatened, have been envied and hated thousands of years but they never, never! betrayed their religion and their one God. As you can see, at the present they are attacked by violent enemies incapable to make a peaceful living, intolerant and respect anybody. I ask you to learn history. The real one.

Semitic peoples are divided into two classes, namely Jews and Arabs. Jews have higher IQs and are better with money and influence than their Arab Semitic brethren, leading to great success in American finance, politics, and the media. In my experience, both classes are innately violent.

It is permissible for American politicians to paint one of these classes of Semitic peoples as ‘Bad Guys’, as they, outside of oil reserves in their Native lands controlled by tight families, have very little money. Our current ’pacifist’ President goes as far as to brag about assassinating leading members of the non-preferred Semitic class.

Since Islam, they have infected the entire culture killing all of it off. Then they spread like a disease through the entire middle east, killing one culture after another even into Europe. They enslaved each culture and all human progress in those cultures halted and regressed.

Newt is the least conservative candidate in the Republican field. Newt is an academic and the ultimate Washington insider who has spent his life profiting from big government. Newt is only for government solutions not free market solutions. Fat chance that a man who has been a Big government tool will reduce the size of government. We currently have an academic in office who enjoys creating government programs to control peoples lives…Newt will be no different.

I also highly doubt that Newt will eliminate the National Healthcare mandate. He pushed it for about 17 years. He was on record on Meet the press in the spring this year of still supporting it. Newt is a big government progressive and if you think this parasite can change his big government views overnight….you are sadly mistaken.

Check out Newt’s voting record in Congress. A small government guy is not one of the few republicans who votes for the creation of the Department of education under Jimmy carter. A small government guy does not push for the Medicare Prescription D legislature on capital Hill representing Big Pharma….and since when does Paul Ryan promote right wing social engineering.

Check out Ann Coulter’s article and check out the facts before you get on the Newt train. There is a lot of baggage and you really need to checkout the details of that baggage because if Newt is the nominee Obama will have Newt neutered before the debates.

One other little Newty fact. Newt was one of the few Republicans who voted for reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine when he was serving under Reagan. The bill passed but thank God,Reagan vetoed the bill.

Newty is feeding the GOP Tea Party language and the GOP voters are eating it up. Newty is very much like Obama in the fact that he uses soaring rhetoric and obscure facts to persuade the electorate and then he turns around and does the complete opposite. Congressman Peter King mentioned this on CNN yesterday.

All I can say is that you really need to thoroughly vet this Big Government Cheerleader.

I think that if Newt wins the Republican nomination, and if Glenn Beck is to be consistent, then he will have to endorse Obama for a second term, or endorse a third party candidate, or endorse no one. During his railing against Newt this morning it suddenly dawned on me that Glenn will most likely have to endorse Obama.

Over and over again Glenn has made it plainly clear that he was glad that Obama won over McCain, because it would wake America up. McCain would continue the slow, incremental slide into socialism, while Obama would send us full-tilt into it, and Glenn has said on numerous occasions that this outcome was probably for the best, so that Americans would finally realize where we are heading.

However, if Newt somehow manages to win the nomination, then obviously Glenn’s work is not yet done. Afterall, if even conservatives vote for Newt in large enough numbers to get him the nod, rather than them voting en masse for real conservatives like Bachman or Santorum, then something has gone wrong and conservatives are still asleep; certainly Americans in general must still be asleep to the truth then.

And so, in a race between Obama and Newt, Glenn’s only consistent course of action would be to endorse Obama. Four more years should be enough to finally wake America up! /sarcasm off

Glenn actually doesn’t have to “endorse” anyone. In fact he said he will never “endorse” anyone. He can vote for whom ever he wishes, just like the rest of us can. He has said he would vote for Bachman if he had to vote right now, but he can’t vote in the primary, as he is a Libertarian, and still he said he is not “Endorsing” Bachman. That is actually what was said. He also states that politicians no matter who it is, isn’t going to salvage this mess, only perhaps slow the process down. I doubt we will ever know who he choses to vote for, just like most comentators will not tell you who they vote for, but many you can tell….especially those on the left. You think you can guess who Chris Matthews voted for? I’ll bet you can, and it wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out, when he has “shivers running up his leg” at the sight of Zero.

Glenn would not do either, Newt is what the country needs. Glenn’s argument about small government is true but it needs to be a gradual change not just closing of entire departments. Remember that 90% of those expenditures are peoples salaries. So if yo eliminate 5 departments unemployment goes up 3-4% and the GDP goes down that is not a solution that is suicide. Newt is the only one talking about making the government more efficient using lean six sigma techniques. That is a real solution.

The Palastinians are whining about their deaths but of course that won’t stop them from using more people as human shields in the future.

Newt is right on this issue. There will never be peace with Palastine. They want Israel dead, gone, wiped off the face of the earth.

      @Todd P

What are you saying??? Newt IS a moderate. He just has the right view of the ‘non-peace’ process and Israel. The right, (like myself), are the ones who have problems with his “moderate” ways. And some go so far as to call him a progressive. Thats actually his biggest hurdle right now. Proving that he is not too far left.

RATIONAL MAN…. What I was trying to say is that although he may be a moderate, he will appeal to conservatives if he keeps talking this way. Unfortunately, the conservative vote by itself is not enough to put anyone into the WH, and the other people may be turned off by his conservative views. I’m not sure who would win in the general election – Mitt or Newt or someone else. I‘m just sayin’ we have to focus on winning the BIG election – not just the nomination.

Why the floor board religious stuff? This is POLITICS? Or your way to express total evangelical stuff?

    Dave
