Next Westboro Publicity Stunt: Picketing Elizabeth Taylor’s Funeral

The Westboro Baptist Church became a nationally despised organization when it began picketing the funerals of fallen American soldiers. Since then, the group has expanded its extreme anti-homosexual protest circuit to include events which garner even more media attention. The group’s latest stunt was announced Wednesday via Twitter messages to various media outlets just hours after Hollywood screen legend Elizabeth Taylor died of congestive heart failure.
TMZ reports:
Those horrible, intolerant, heartless gay-haters at the Westboro Baptist Church are preparing to spread their evil message at Elizabeth Taylor’s funeral … a higher power tells TMZ
Margie Phelps — daughter of WBC Pastor Fred Phelps — took to Twitter today to announce the church is going to picket non-lesbian Liz’s funeral … all because Liz was apparently some sort of gay “enabler” and (God forbid) an AIDS activist.
Liz will likely be buried in Los Angeles — where there are positively no gay people.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld Westboro’s First Amendment rights to assemble and peaceably protest, no matter how blatantly obnoxious.

Posted on March 24, 2011 at 9:14amWhat the lefties on the SC do not understand is there is a fine line between free speech and what WBC is doing which is harassment, threats, intimidation and hate speech just to name a few. That, to me is not free speech. It is a hate crime. WBC ought to be arrested.

Posted on March 24, 2011 at 8:56amI assigned to stand at a funeral for a local Marine who was killed in combat in Iraq a few years ago as these morons picketed. We kept them far enough away that they had little impact on the services. Their message is corrupt and sick, if the media didn‘t give them the attention I believe they’d go away. They make they’re living off of the media, suing and harassing people who try to stop them. What is truly sad is the kids they have with them filling their minds with this poison. In my opinion they are no different than the KKK groups who from time to time show up with their “rallies”.
I’ve been assigned to the KKK rallies before too, both groups Westboro and the KKK can recite the bible better than most anyone I know. But they twist the meaning to justify their view/politics while claiming to be Christians, these people are anything but Christian. They are nothing more than a scam and use these protest to fund their family.

These are eleven nutcase’s that crave attention. Mostly all from the same family. Ignore them, give them absolutely zero publicity and they’ll fade away. You play right into their hands when you show them on TV or photo’s of them. They are waiting for the day someone knocks the hell out of them. Posted on March 24, 2011 at 9:47amYOU ARE! The WBC is not a church but a law firm. All of the adults are lawyers. They make a pretty decent living suing the city, state and Federal governments for Civil Right violations. Of course, they precipitate the violations, but when a cop tells them to move back beyond the specified limit, or a city tries to refuse their permit, or one of them gets punched in the nose, they sue the government for violating their freedom of speech or for failing to protect them from an angry mob.
And under Civil Rights law the Federal government picks up the tab under a provision intended to ensure that real victims of civil rights violations can get a lawyer and have their cases heard in spite of poverty. The ACLU also makes use of it.
So after every incident, they figure out how their rights might have been violated and sue. Even if they lose the case, their billing hours are paid for by your tax dollars. It is the perfect legal scam.

First off, churches that violate the tax-exempt guidelines and delve into the political arena WILL lose their status.
Second, the Westboro group is NOT a church, Christian or otherwise. They receive upwards of $250,000.00 per year from Liberal organisation for the sole purpose of doing what they do.

Posted on March 24, 2011 at 9:50amWhen I see pictures of this group doing their thing, I always focus on the young children holding some of the signs. Do they even know what the sign means? What are those children going to be like when they grow up? Clinton and Reno invaded the WACO compound partially over their lifestyle using the typical progressive mantra of “for the children.” Yet the O and Holder do nothing about this group and neither of them can say that the Westboro group is their people. Where are the conservative and mainstream Baptists on this? Is it not hypocritical to bemoan the inaction of moderate Muslims vis a vis radicalism, yet keep the silence of the lambs with Westboro?

Posted on March 24, 2011 at 10:29amI think you are correct sir. I spoke to them with several letters, and even my mother, who is a minister, spoke to them by email. Their reply’s, although a little softer, were still filled with their obsession that everyone else is going to Hell that doesn’t tote the exact line, and prompted to look at similar videos and messages filled with their same hyper-religious rhetoric. The bible spoke about being overly ‘religious’, using religion as a simple vessel to promote themselves, wanting the limelight. If they were true Christians, they would not done things like, ‘borrow’ an Ozzy song for one of their rants. One cannot judge the soul of another, as that is a big No-No in the good Book, but we can judge their despicable actions and take peaceful actions to thwart them…like simply forming a human wall a few people thick around wherever they go. Don’t say anything other than “Your action are reprehensible, and we are simply here for those morning today.” – And NO cameras. That is what they also desire.

Posted on March 24, 2011 at 9:41amOh, I don’t know…having Phelps & Co. protesting at Ms. Taylor’s funeral could be kinda interesting in the long run. I mean, really, as the article pointed out, there are absolutely NO gays at ALL in L.A. (LOL!) And this Twitter from Phelp’s daughter comes in plenty of time for the word to go out.
As for protesting at funerals, well, they show their lack of class. The Russians have a word for it, “nieculturnay” (rough English spelling). I like the word “dreck” myself.
Anyway, Ms. Taylor was a strong advocate for AIDS research, particularly after her friend, Rock Hudson, died. So I hope that GLAAD and all the other associated groups turn out in full force. And I hope the news crews capture every second.
This may actually be the time that Phelp’s and company bit off more than they could chew.

_______________________________________________
On the 1st Amendment the SCOTUS has no choice but to allow these people to do this. They are excercising free speech, the right to assembly peacefully, and their religious beliefs. They have every right whether you agree or disagree of what they say. I despise their message but I will defend them to the death for them to do what they do. To protect everyone’s rights you must protect the rights of even the people you disagree with. You allow one group not to have their rights you open the floodgates of every and any group the government or the people doesn’t like at that moment of time.
However, on abortion that should be up to the individual states to vote on constitutionally, however, I could argue that because abortion deprives the life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to the unborn. We are also punishing the child for the sins of the father in cases of rape and incest. No where in our code of justice is the children responsible for any crime their parents commit, unless we talking about abortion and then we give the children the death penalty. A penalty none the less that progressives despise and protest against when the state executes convicted prisoners of heinous crimes.

However I think Christians forget that while homosexuality is sin, so is fornication, divorce, adultery and many other acts that we seem to be more tolerant of (or for those who are picky about grammar, acts of which we seem to be more tolerant).
