NFL Coach, Player Get in Screaming Match on Sideline

Yesterday, 49ers coach Mike Singletary got in a screaming match with his quarterback Troy Smith. Things got even more heated when a teammate came over and started smearing Smith’s face with a towel. In short, Singletary lost complete control of his team. Not surprisingly, he was fired hours after the incident:
From ESPN:
Sideline shouting matches between Singletary and the 49ers’ quarterback of the week — Troy Smith this time, Alex Smith in the past — have become must-see TV for fans of the NFL and metaphorical train wrecks. They have also come to symbolize the organizational drama and dysfunction that prevented the most talented team in the NFC West from winning what might be the most winnable division in NFL history. [...]
What were they shouting about this time?
“Who had more passion,” Smith said, laughing. “I was trying to tell him I had more. No, it was definitely about the quarterback switch and I just felt at the time that I wasn’t ready to come out.”

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 2:27pmYay, the National Felon League at it again. I always liked Singletary, they should have fired that other thing. As far as race goes, if it is not race then what in the world is it that makes us constantly see this same type of behavior in black dominated sports. I mean really, my eyes aren’t lying to me when I constantly see blacks doing this type of stuff, and I don’t believe the whole liberal crap about “we’re all the same kumbi ya.” Yes it happens in all sports with all people, but it happens far more often in sports like the NFL and NBA. So if race doesn’t explain it, then please do inform me why it is that blacks always act like this or get in some type of trouble. Some of ya’ll really need to get out of your happy little white enclaves and actually experience the diversity you constantly worship. Your minds might just break the liberal brainwashed mold and begin to think for itself for once.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 2:27pm@southernloyalty..Your an idiot, and a racist idiot at that. It’s football, so people get heated and get in to arguments. The league is predominatly black, so ofcourse much of what goes on will show a black individual. It’s stupid though to think that if the league were predominatly white that the same things wouldnt be happening with white players. Your an idiot, and I cant say that enough to truly satisfy me. Your an idiot.

I have decided to try to stop caring.
I don’t mind the odd trivial story. I just wish they’d change the name of the site. Calling it “The Blaze” (and using the provenance that goes with it) is pretty disrespectful when they run stories about football and urinating prostitutes.
I like Beck’s original name of “Truthwire”. I like The Blaze too, but as I said, not for cheap entertainment. I just love Beck, and don’t like to see him water down his resolve like that.
Oops, I said I wasn’t going to care anymore. I’ll stop. ;)

Can we stop this, please? It’s happening on every article. There are some great comments that end up bumped into oblivion because people are basically cutting into line to say something irrelevant.
Certain people around here look needy, as they do it every time. It’s even worse to be doing it on such a stupid article. Once in a while if you have a great point to make, sure… but every time? Come on! Are you guys new to the internet, or what? It’s basic etiquette; be rude to individuals, not everyone. Don‘t step on everyone’s toes at once like that.

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 12:18pmPlayers have been directly involved with coaching failures on more that one team. Dallas and Minnesota come immediately to mind. Now San Francisco and soon the Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals. If the owners don’t show cahonas, this could easily escalate and harm football beyond repair. This type of disruption has always been a part of the game, but not exposed as publcly on this level before.

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 11:48amMike Singletary is one of the all time greatest. It was clear to me early on that either he was a GREAT player and a lousy coach, OR the corporate “culture” of the forty-niners was going to be unable to respond to his intensity. I suspect the latter, and that being the case they were unwilling to be patient while he found his footing. In either case, I wish him all the best.
And bad cess to the forty-niners.

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 11:52amHey, Sinista, it doesn’t take a preponderance of African Americans in a sport to cause people to call it thuggish. All it takes is for there to be a complete lack of respect for teammates and opposing players. The NHL has always had more than its share of thugs (Avery with the Rangers is a good example). And how, exactly would YOU define “thug”? Is it now a reserved word, like the “n” word that can only be used by one ethnic group to address other members of the group? And for the record, I don’t use the “n” word. I find it reprehensible in any context.

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 2:37pmYeah Sinista’s a stand up guy, but back to the point. If you‘ve never played football at a high level then don’t come on here talking about how bad these players are and how they have “no respect for authority”. Most all these players are “Type A” personalities. They’re the most competitive type people, and thats why they’ve made it to the NFL. They also play a very violent game that can leave you seriously injured. When you’re competitive drive and frustration comes out during a game, this is a result. And you idiots who call this the “National Felon League” grow up. Statistics show that a smaller percentage of NFL players get arrested than when compared (adjusted numbers ofcourse) with the regular population. Meaning most of the players in the NFL are stand-up guys that you hate simply because your a hater.
