Vid Shows Jets Coach Rex Ryan Allegedly Telling Fan to ‘Shut the F**k Up’

Rex Ryan Curses at Fan

The boisterous New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan was unable to lead his team to victory over the division rival New England Patriots in what was a demoralizing home defeat on national television last night. Now, things could get worse.

A video posted on YouTube shows that while leaving the field at some point (either at halftime or at the end), someone in the crowd yelled to Ryan “Hey Rex, Belichick is better than you,” in regards to Ryan’s head coaching counterpart on the Patriots. In no mood for the peanut gallery, Ryan apparently  instructed the fan to, “Shut the f**k up,” although the camera only captured audio of the exchange.

It’s not clear if the heckler was a Jets or Patriots fan, but the crowd who heard the back-and-forth laughed at the outburst nonetheless. The NFL does not find such behavior comical.

The Newark-based Star-Ledger reports that the NFL is aware of the video, and a league spokesman said the NFL will “take a look at it.” Ryan was fined $50,000 by the Jets in 2010 after a cell phone camera caught the coach gleefully waiving the middle finger at a fan during a mixed martial arts event in Florida.

Ryan was not alone in making vulgar comments after the game. Following a successful performance against what many consider to be the best defense in the league, the New York Post reports that Belichick said to his son in celebration “Thirty-seven points on the best defense in the league, s*** my d***.”

UPDATE* : In an interview on New York-based 1050 ESPN Radio, Rex Ryan confirmed the vulgar comments. “Quite honestly, my emotions got the best of me,” said Ryan on the Michael Kay Show. Contrary to earlier reports which noted that the comments came after the loss, Ryan clarified that the video was filmed during an altercation as the team walked to the locker room at halftime.

This revelation makes the outburst perhaps even more inappropriate, for it eliminates the shaky-defense that Ryan was frustrated after a demoralizing loss. Given that he told a fan to “Shut the f-ck up” as the game remained close at halftime, one is led to believe that this is perhaps the behavior Ryan displays in general to heckling fans.

So what if they fan yelled something.. he didn’t curse the coach. Geez have you ever been to a NFL game in person? I‘ve been to many and that was pretty tame compared to what I’ve heard. Usually it’s the coach and the players that are expected to contain their remarks which he should have done, but apparently the heckler got a kick out of it..they were laughing.

That’s Rex. Truthfully, it’s the way people talk. There’s TV talk and talk on the field.. Take it or leave it. The heckler got what he deserved. F. OFF !!

The guy, whoever is was, is lucky Mr. Ryan didn’t disclocate his nose from his face. Fans ike this should be permanently barred from ever attending another game.

If you cannot keep your mouth shut when you should, you need to stay home and yell at the TV.

Ryan just doing his job and New York is famous for crude fans.

It’s stupid that he can get fined ludicrous amounts of money for something like this…but Rex Ryan is a pretty vitriolic and disgusting individual. If the NFL didn’t want this kind of behavior, they’d be rid of him and a ton of their players throughout the league as well.

Who cares? Its a rough sport and if they had a mic on the field during the game, im sure you would hear much worse. I get sick of the media making a big deal about non stories. I would have said the same thing,

Anti-social behavior from members of the Ryan family has come to be expected. Daddy Buddy was a turd who used physical intimidation on co-workers instead of dialog normally used by NFL coaches while he was in Houston during the last century. Ryan and Belichick have been off each other’s Christmas card lists since Ryan left New England.

Ryan is the uncle in every family that does things the way he wants no matter the affect on others. Him throwing “F-bombs” and waving the single digit is expected and just what Jet’s management desires because that is what sells in that Hell hole that is NYC. What to you expect?

I’m not really seeing the controversy here. I‘m sure he’ll get fined by the NFL but that’s only because of out of control PC policies.

Somebody verbally insulted him and he did the same in return. Besides it was clearly a setup for a gotcha video anyway. I‘m sorry but people don’t walk around filming with their cell phones at all times and just happen to catch this sort of thing.

The Pats own the Jets! How many rings do our boys Brady and Belichick??? 3! How many do Rex and Sanchez have? 0!! Sanchez is horrible! Brady is awesome, Brady is a hall of famer, just passed the Great Joe Montana in career 300 yard games, Rex will not win a ring, Sanchez will definitely never lead a team to a super bowl win, period. That Jets fan only spoke the truth!

I still find it troubling that after 3 years people don‘t understand Rex’s schtick. Cussing and interacting with the fan base is part of his brand and image.

For journalists: You think Ryan got to be an NFL coach ’cause he’s an incredible coach alone??? If you do, do you also still believe in Kriss Kringle???

The use of foul language is a indicator of modest education or nothing better to say.

That’s a load of malarky. The use of foul language is an idicator of the degree to which somebody is upset. I’ve known plenty of people that are as dumb as a box of rocks that have never used a vulgar word in their lives. They just have more even temperments and don’t get upset easily. I‘ve also known plenty of people with multiple degrees and extensive educations that swear a blue streak on a regular basis because they’re hot heads.

Using foul language has nothing to do with education and everything to do with one’s ability to control their emotions.

It was funny watching the Jets and their fans all come unglued as they realized they aren’t all that. Typical “fair weather” fans that left in the late part of game like the little babies they really are. I have sat in both Foxborough and in the old Cleveland Metropolitan Stadium routing for teams that weren’t that good. REAL fans love their teams and stay till the end. Rex is a low class POS that isn’t even in the same league as most of the NFL coaches and his team proves it over and over.
