NFL Nixes Rumors of Fines, Will Allow Players to Wear Special 9/11 Gear

NFL Nixes Rumors of Fines, Will Allow Players to Wear Special 9/11 Gear

Chicago Bears linebacker tweeted this photo Thursday of patriotic gear he received to wear this weekend.

After reports circulated that NFL players could be hit with fines this weekend for wearing “unauthorized” patriotic gear to honor the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the league confirmed that players will be allowed to wear special red, white and blue shoes and gloves.

“NFL confirmed to clubs this morning that players may wear special shoes & gloves from NFL licensees for Week 1 games,” NFL Vice President of Football Communications Michael Signora wrote on Twitter Friday afternoon.

The NFL has strict rules about game-day attire, and any unauthorized uniform alteration can lead to steep fines.

Rumors of possible fines lit up on Twitter Thursday, after players including Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs posted about receiving “Never Forget” gloves and shoes from Reebok:

For the anniversary of 9/11 game why is it if I wear shoes and gloves that are the colors of r nations flag..I will be fined by the league

Reebok great job on these gloves and shoes..looks like I’m getting fined this week. Lol!

By far the best fine I will ever have to pay. Thanks

Fines for gloves could be as much as 5k..the shoes 8-10k I think. not 100% on the shoe fine.

NFL Nixes Rumors of Fines, Will Allow Players to Wear Special 9/11 Gear

Tennessee Titans Quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck tweeted this photo of his commemorative cleats.

Tennessee Titans Quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck tweeted a photo of his cleats and said he planned to wear them for the game and then donate them to a charity for wounded veterans.

NFL Nixes Rumors of Fines, Will Allow Players to Wear Special 9/11 Gear

Kansas City Chiefs Jamaal Charles tweeted this photo of his 9/11 commemorative gear.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles also wrote about receiving gear from Reebok:

I Have some commemorative 9/11 gloves & cleats for the weekend game.. That #reebok made me. I never forget.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, several Chargers players received the gear but were warned by Reebok officials that it was not authorized by the NFL.

The paper reported at least one Chargers player said he would risk the fine and wear the cleats.

The NFL provides pink apparel, including shoes, for players to wear to support breast cancer awareness in October.

In addition to special gloves and shoes, sideline personnel will wear commemorative pins, and players will wear a red, white and blue patch below their jersey collars in the shape of ribbon.

We have to be distracted by the ridiculousness of players wearing pink for the entire month of October and the league actually considered not allowing players to wear the commemorative apparel for one game on the anniversary of the worst attack on our country in history. I knew my decision to quit subscribing to NFL Sunday Ticket was the right thing to do. I applaud all the players that were willing to risk the fine. Thanks guys.

Why send patriotic wear to a Chicago Bear? It’s Chicago, the town that gave us Obama, the traitor.

The NFL is like every other corporation theyre not about patriotism theyre about the business of making money any tid bit that disrupts their greed is attacked with prejudice, until of course people get off their collective butts and change the rules of business where businesses they have to conform or lose there customers, like dr. pepper and pepsi a few years back refused to show patriotism on thier cans, and told the american people if they don’t like drink something else… well americans did along with writing their respective business, both dr. pepper and pepsi changed their tune quick with being faced with an all out boycott where as coke was more than happy to oblige the coming soft drink shortage.

Remember the Paul Revere didn’t shout his warning. He went to select houses because may along the route were Loyalists. Shouting and awaking the countryside would have aroused them, as well. We are now in another era of having to pick and choose whom we support. I’m behind the CEO of Gibson Guitars who is being harrassed by the DOJ. Other guitar makers are democrats and the DOJ ignores them for doing business just like Gibson.

Had about as much of this politcal correct BS one man can stand. If we as Americans can’t show our respect and honor those that lost their lives on this day, then what’s left of America? We can’t say Merry Christmas any more, God is a no go, what has this country become? Is globalization a code word for de-amercanizing America?

Unfortunately, my e-mail is @yahoo, so I get to see their news page every time I get on. You are absolutely right about their horrendous news reporting. You are absolutely wrong about “something needing to be done.” That smacks of government intervention, and i can’t support that. They will wither on the vine if they can’t report the truth, so let the market decide.

As a matter of fact, Reebok or whoever made the gear, I would like to buy some of those shoes to wear (much smaller size, however). Since we are at war with the enemy at home, I’d be proud to wear those shoes `til I wear them out.

I am glad that some of the players will auction off the stuff after for vetrans charities. As for Reebok I am not sure where there stuff was manufactured, but I am sure the workers were aware of what 9/11 is all about. As for victims families, Anne Coulter got into it a while back about three widows that were out cashin in on victimhood, but you have to figure there are always a few bad apples in any group. There are a few trolls around here as well, probably paid trolls from media matters or some other Soros funded outfit.

@AMMA K I was being serious. The article states Reebok so I looked it up. Reebok uses footwear factories in 14 countries. Most factories making Reebok footwear are based in Asia — primarily China (accounting for 51% of total footwear production), Indonesia (21%), Vietnam (17%) and Thailand (7%). Production is consolidated, with 88% of Reebok footwear manufactured in 11 factories, employing over 75,000 workers.
