Nikki Haley: Obama Admin’s Job-Killing Boeing Decision Is ‘Worst Thing’ For Economy

Nikki Haley: Obama Admins Job Killing Boeing Decision Is Worst Thing For Economy

As you may know, the Obama administration’s National Labor Relations Board is trying to tell the Boeing Company how to run its business. To wit, the NLRB is telling Boeing that it cannot open a plant in business-friendly South Carolina. South Carolina is a right-to-work state, meaning that it has “a law against compulsory union membership” — so is the NLRB retaliating on behalf of labor?

It’s the first time a federal agency has intervened to tell an American company where it can and cannot operate a plant within the U.S. It lays the foundation of a regulatory wall with one express purpose: to prevent the direct competition of right-to-work states with union-shop states.

Libertarian labor expert Richard Epstein delivers some background:

The National Labor Relations Board (“NLRB”) [has filed] unfair labor charges on behalf of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union against the Boeing Company. Why? Boeing had the audacity to invest $2 billion in a new South Carolina facility where it would assemble its 787 Dreamliner—a job that Boeing assigned to 1000 non-union workers starting this coming July.

Acting NLRB General Counsel, Lafe Solomon, wants that work to be brought back to Washington state and the Portland, Oregon area, where Boeing has its current Dreamliner facilities….

But South Carolina governor Nikki Haley wants to know why Washington should get those jobs instead of South Carolina. (Washington is a union-shop state.) She appeared on Fox and Friends this morning to challenge the NLRB’s complaint against Boeing.

Here is what she said:

For more background on this case—and for more information on the question of whether the NLRB should even exist — check out Epstein’s full piece.

The republicans need to understand they cannot co-opt and or side step the peoples movement. Don’t be fooled into voting republican only and all will be fine. Someone needs to sit down with Harry Reid and explain Article 1, Section 8. The NLRB, which he cites as a “check and balance” is nothing more than an unconstitutional agency interfering in the affairs of the free market and doling out political favors for votes. I don’t know which is more disgusting, the act or Reid’s defense of it. These hapless morons don’t have a clue. Welcome to the Communist States of Amerika.

i agree with you, ive said it before and i’ll say it again. e mails, phone calls and tea party rallies is NOT effective with this administration. it is time, we the people demand the fbi or armed forces to begin impeachment proceedings againt this entire administration on the grounds of treason. if thousands marched in every state to the fbi buildings, maybe, just maybe they would get the idea. the congress is supposed to be the main law enforcement of this land, if theyre breaking the law, the fbi should be next in line to save this great country, if they refuse, then its the military, if they pass the buck, well, then its we the people, but when it gets to that, there will be no turning back. does it really need to come to this? the constitution is clear, it is the law of the land. you swore an oath to defend it, a lack of performance puts you in contempt of it as well.

This is why we need to have major changes in DC. We need to get rid of BIG Goverment and they need to stick to protecting our Boarders, wait I mean to say start protecting our boarders and protecting our rights as mandated in the consitution. They need to get out of our lives. We have four levels of Goverment in this country. The Federal Goverment does not need to be anywhere the size and obtrusive as it is. There is no reason for it. Get rid of all these regatory boards and let the states goven themselves, let the County govern the county issues and the towns and city govern the local population. The Federal Government is not doing the job that it is suppose to do and has become a Charity and dictator with assuming power over the states. In our county here in CO. We have just rejected some program that the State wants to force upon us because, (believe this or not) It is a program of the UN, not US the United Nations, that is right the One World Goverment. So, even in this County high up in the Colorado High Country the One World Goverment is reaching in to mandate to us what we can and cannot do. Folks this is real and if you don’t think it effects you, you are being had big time. I would not be suprised if the UN has their hands all over our Federal Goverment and mandating to Obama what he should and shouldn’t do. This is why he seems so out of touch with the Amemerican people. Please watch out the One World Goverment is here!

I like the fsct that NY is different from Alabama and Washington is diffent from Arizona. Diversity and choice is a wonderful thing. If California doesn’t want gay marraige and NJ does so be it. If the people of Oregon want only union shops so be it. Do we really want New Orleans to be more like Atlanta or Baltimore? Of course not but this is where we are headed with this central government system.

In fact you probably don’t even know how many states have Right To Work Laws. Hint it’s 22. If you take the unemployment percentage of the ROW states average them out you will come up with 8.08% average unemployment according to the Federal Gov’t. If you take the other 28 states and DC that do not have a ROW law you will come up with 8.43% average unemployment again according to the Federal Gov’t.

So in the end it is all political. The administration is once again using tax dollars to fight for the Unions.

I laugh at all the morons who stomp on South Carolina. We have a fairly low unemployment rate overall with some areas much higher. We also boast a much lower cost of living. We also have union jobs here. Companies want to come here for many reasons and lower labor costs are a big factor, but lets not forget lower taxes and less government interference. We like this and we are not abused. The state of South Carolina is one of the few states that still resemble the Republic we had. The irony is that people in the northern states have been moving here for years. They assimilate and live the best life. No snow, no traffic, lower cost of living and still growing. So who is the sucker?
SO WHEN THE UNIONS SUCK ALL COMPANIES AND GOVERNMENTS DRY AND LEAVES YOU HOLDING THE BAG YOU”LL MOVE SOUTH JUST LIKE THE REST.

      I am back….

The 22 states with right-to-work laws have lower incomes and reduced wages, on average, compared to free-bargaining states. For example, in 2009, the median weekly earnings of full-time workers in free-bargaining states ($771) was 13.4 percent higher, on average, than in right-to-work states ($680). Similarly, the average annual pay for workers in all industries was 14.1 percent higher in free-bargaining states ($44,707), on average, than in right-to-work states ($39,169).

Fully half of all right-to-work states — 11 out of 22 — have poverty rates over 15 percent. The average poverty rate for all of these states combined is also 15 percent. In contrast, only six of the 28 free-bargaining states have poverty rates over 15 percent, and the average for this group is 12.8 percent.
      http://new.bangordailynews.com/2011/02/19/opinion/the-%E2%80%98right-to-work%E2%80%99-%E2%80%93-for-lower-pay/

It is worth knowing that average salaries and incomes are higher in states that are more heavily unionized. Simultaneously, if one insists upon using test scores as a measure of academic performance, it is worth noting that states with unionized work forces perform at a higher level than right to work states, according to studies and analysis. We have known for years that there is a strong correlation between family income and performance on such measurements.

It was mentioned earlier how the union worker is nothing more than a cash cow for fat cat union bosses. The unfortunate union worker not only has federal taxes witheld to pay for the D.C. fat cat in the federal government (and state government in some cases) but he has to have another tax witheld (union dues) to pay for the union fat cats and the shadow government they are currently setting up.
Unfortunately, union members, just like 1/2 of our population, have been duped into thinking we’ve got to rely on these fat cats or the boogie man (insert the devisive issue politicians keep fostering here) is going to get us.

      @encinom

There you go again. The unemployment numbers are released first Friday of every month, so you find a measurement period to fit your assertion, yearly and you probably cherry picked the month too. Unemployment for the bulk of the Bush years was 5-6%. Slight variations are an abberration as 5-6% is considered to be full employment. What exactly IS your claim, we need higher taxes so that unemployment rate will go down? Welfare for the rich? It is their money! Letting them keep what is theirs IS NOT welfare!

You certainly do have the “right to work” It is called pursuit of happiness. And if you get off your fat lazy ass, work hard you will have a job.

No one owes you anything. You are NOT entitled to a job. You are suffering from utter benighted ignorance and are the worse enemy of this republic. Addler v US

Sounds to me a government monopoly. I think we need to break-up the government monopoly into fifty states.

This truly sucks yet again the federal government poking its nose where it does not belong. The libs and progressives can’t stand non-union states and are trying to punish them, so the obama terrorist admin is attacking them by stealing jobs from people that need them. I was planning on applying there so me and my wife could move closer to her parents in aiken sc but now I am going to have to wait and see what happens. NO GOVERNMENT ENTITIY SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL ANY BUSINESS WHERE IT CAN AND CAN’T DO BUSINESS UNLESS THE BUSINESS IS ILLEGAL.

ALL states should enact Right To Work legislation. There is NOT ONE state having mandatory union membership (and FORCED dues) that is not bankrupt. Also, (contrary to the myths espoused by ignorant union-stooges, like Encinom), unemployment is HIGHER in virtually all the states with forced unionism, and unemployment is actually MUCH higher in them than Right To Work states, as well. You can check out the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics report on this exact topic, if you want.

Boeing should simply tell the NLRB to go to hell, close ALL their plants in Washingtron and move their entire production to Right To Work states the first opportunity they get. This adminstration is adopting the same fascist policies Himmler used to control the economy in Germany under Adolph Hitler. Too bad we need to suffer under OUR little dictator and his cabinet full of socialist goons another 19 months……..

Right to Work states have the lowest incomes for workers and the highest unemployment rates. Right to Work, is more like right to abuse workers, I just find it funny that workers have the least amount of rights in former slave states.

I beg to differ…you don’t know your facts…Oklahoma is a RIGHT TO WORK STATE and our unemployment as of March 2011 was at a 6.1% compared to a National average high at 8.8%.
Let’s see Ohio is NOT a RIGHT TO WORK STATE….and as of March 2011 their unemployment rate was 8.9%. WOW…higher than the national average…REALLY….bet those Unions are really fighting for those peoples jobs…

You’re wrong on this one. My state is right to work, and we have the lowest unemployment rate in the whole country.
True our wages are somewhat less than union shops, but living here is much cheaper too than in a unionized city. Seattle being a prime example. Poor people cannot live in unionized cities.

The oil fields are booming too, starting wages on a rig are about $35 an hour, average.
And all the oil fields are non union.

So encinom, keep on paying your high rent. My rent is $375/ per month for a 1 bedroom apt, and the landlord pays for Cable TV and all utilities.

I do back the unions, long as they are not allowed to donate to politicians, political causes, same for corporations.

I worked security @ Port of Seattle at several sites, one of which was pier 91.

One day the Port hired non union vendors to come in and worked the site.
the union walked out on strike, and told the port they would not return unless the non union vendors were removed from the site.
Well the vendor threatened to sue the union and the port, over violation of their work rights at a government taxpayer site, so the union was forced to allow the vendor to come back and the port was forced to erect and pay for a non union gate and the union was allowed to picket, but they could not deny entrance to a non union vendor. I worked that gate for 12 hours and bullshitteth with the union picketers the whole 12 hours, while collecting strike pay, which was more money. The whole 12 hours I was there, the vendor never showed up, so I sat on my butt the whole 12 hours BSing with the union guys, and we all had a blast.
When we work strikes, we get more money.
If they want to prevent scabs from crossing their one single gate, fine with me.

I was also in the Seattle WTO riots, and did march with the unions, who 40% vote republican regularly, then I went home and taped the violence for the next 4 days, 30 hours of tapes.
Company wanted me to work in the area of the violence, I refused, which I had the right to do.
My first job is to protect my home. 2nd is

save our country and tear down a marxist.

question: if ovomit takes his administration on a cruise for one of those luxurios(i mean sparse) summit meetings and it sinks in the middle or the ocean, who gets saved?

      answer:AMERICA

Encinoman go back to the time you came from. Do I trust big business no, but right now I trust the government less. You are so clearly big government, what do you think will happen to your liberties when the Govt has control. You “Americans” will be standing there hang dog wishing you had a chance to go back.
Remember if business gets out of control we have the govt, if govt gets out of control “who you gonna call”
