‘Ninja’-Style Daggers Found in a Hollowed-Out Book at Reagan Int’l Airport

TSA Discovers Daggers in Hallowed Out Book at Reagan Airport

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — The Transportation Security Administration says officers found two throwing daggers hidden in a hollowed-out book at a checkpoint at Reagan-Washington National Airport.

A TSA spokesman says a passenger was stopped Monday when officers found the knives in the person’s carry-on bag. The daggers measured just over a half-foot long and were hidden in the hard-cover book.

“This is an example of why our officers need to carefully inspect everyday items,” said TSA spokesman Kawika Riley.

NBC Washington reports:

The TSA recognizes that most passengers who bring these items into the checkpoint don’t do purposely with malicious intent. However, because common and seemingly innocent items like books can be used to hide dangerous weapons, it’s important that TSA officers are trained to look beyond the ordinary to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all employees and travelers.

The passenger was flying to Chicago and surrendered the knives and book.

The TSA has the authority to fine passengers who bring deadly weapons into the airport checkpoint. It was not known if this was done in this case.

I flew to Wisconsin from Southern CA with an elbow piece of pipe and a Phillips screwdriver and they let it go through. Granted I was using the piece of pipe for display and the screwdriver was to open a crate at the trade show I was going to, but a screw driver? The TSA was impressed by the skull sticker I had on my laptop and said nothing about the pipe or screwdriver. I could have taken some of the plane apart.

I forgot about my leatherman micra in my bag a couple of times when I flew. It has a 2.5 inc blade (about the size of a small pair of nail clippers. And it folds out to a pair of scissors. It’s beyond !@#$ing ridiculous this is considered dangerous. The blade doesn’t lock so if I ever tried to stab someone with it, I’d probably cut off a couple of fingers in the process. I stopped flying all together because of airport security. I’d much rather charter a hot air balloon than ever fly again. I’m sure I would get their faster.

If the TSA would stop stealing things from “Checked” baggage there would be no reason to sneak them in our carry on bags! It is legal to check these items – but with the TSA “Stealing” our belongings who would want to check their valuables!

That is not a “book”, it is clearly designed as the box for the pair of throwing knives, thus the title on the page that reads “Ninja Equipment”. I’d also bet my salary that this was NOT intended to be used as a terrorist weapon, but was probably a gift received while traveling and wanted to smuggle it home.

This has got to be a planted story. Who would bring a hollowed out book through security with knives in them. People know that the metal detectors would pick them right up in the scanners. I am suspicious that the government is planting this crap to justify making more regulations on the American people.

Yes. Why wasn’t the perpetrator detained and questioned then?

@IAMABLAZE The only set up was probably it was Muslims carrying…Something happened a couple of years ago after Obama got in…I noticed it even on Fox News…when there was a hijacking type plane scare..they must have been blocked from telling the culture of the people..the government must be controlling it for what else….control.. Now as for what regulations need to be incurred? People with licenses to carry..should be allowed to carry…and the airlines should have plain clothes air marshals flying on every flight..

They didn’t give his name, therefore we know that is was Abdul or Ali or Mohamed or Assam or…

Likewise with Black crimes: If it’s murder, rape, flash mobs or setting old women on fire the demcrat MSM and the perpetrator is Black, they’ll omit race identity. But, thanks to videos on the New Media, the demcrat PC hustlers who control the MSM can no longer censor the truth, which is why they’re trying to shut it down:

-11/18/10 Fox News: Democrat Senator Jay Rockefeller urges FCC to shut down Fox News.
-3/22/11, The Blaze: “They [the Tea Partyers) don’t deserve the freedoms that are in the Constitution, but we’ll give them to them anyway”? Democrat Senator Lautenberg.
-1/7/11 CBS News: President Obama is planning to hand the U.S. Commerce Department authority over a forthcoming cybersecurity effort to create an Internet ID for Americans.
12/7/11 AP: A federal judge in Oregon has ruled that a Montana woman sued for defamation was not a journalist; although media experts said Wednesday that the ruling would have little effect on the definition of journalism, it casts a shadow on those who work in nontraditional media. “Nontraditional media” — meaning, The Blaze, Breitbart, talk radio — all conservative news sources.

From what I gather from the story, the passenger just gave up the knives & book and went on their merry way. If this is true the TSA is a bigger bunch of idiots than I even dreamed. Why would anyone have weapons hidden in a book unless they planned to use them? Why was this person not arrested? This is a setup or else we are in bigger trouble than I thought.

There are a lot of hunters in my family, myself included. We enjoy hunting, target practice, etc. To make a long story short, my father used a duffle bag to travel once that we had also used, on occasion, to carry ammunition back and forth to the range. Unknown to him, there was still a 44 magnum cartridge in one of the pockets. Fortunately, no one made a big deal out of it. He surrendered the cartridge and continued on.

Of course no name of passenger, explanation of why the daggers in the book and no indication of an arrest. He just surrendered the knives and the book?! Really? A Tea Party guy gets ARRESTED at the airport for trying to check in per regulations an unloaded, properly packed firearm and this guy tries to bring knives INSIDE the cabin and he just surrenders them….and the book?

There is a LOT more to this story.
