TRENTON, N.J. (The Blaze/AP) — Blunt-talking Gov. Chris Christie, often mentioned as a Republican presidential candidate, was taken to a hospital Thursday after he had difficulty breathing.
Maria Comella, Christie’s deputy chief of staff, told The Associated Press that Christie is “fine and in charge.”
The 48-year-old governor was driven to Somerset Medical Center by his state police security detail out of an “abundance of caution,” said another spokesman, Michael Drewniak. Drewniak said Christie suffers from asthma and all indications are Christie will be OK.
His full statement is below:
“Governor Christie was having difficulty breathing this morning and out of an abundance of caution he went to Somerset Medical Center to be checked out. In line with someone dealing with asthma, he is being given routine tests as a precautionary measure. The Governor is extremely grateful for the quality of care he is receiving this morning and has nothing but praise for the world-class doctors, nurses and staff.”
Drewniak says the 48-year-old suffers from asthma and all indications are Christie “will be fine.”
Close friend and adviser Bill Palatucci said Christie “is fine, getting tests and working from the hospital.”
Christie had been due to sign open-space legislation.
The Republican, who took office 18 months ago, has made no secret that he has struggled with a weight problem.
This is a breaking story. Updates may be added.

Posted on July 28, 2011 at 12:29pmHe has every right to eat what ever he wants. He has every right to do anything that is legal. That is how it is.
It would be a shame if he collapsed due to the stress of all the hate he encounters daily in New Jersey. Maybe there are recommendations out there for fighting off that stress?
And loudmouths in America are still free to say whatever they want to say, just like you did.
Hopefully, this will not take Christie out of the White House race, he was going to be Drafted!
God bless you Governor. TEA

Posted on July 28, 2011 at 12:07pmOur prayers are with you Governor! If they want to find the cause of your difficulty in breathing perhaps they should investigate the fact that obama and his union thugs are sucking the air right out of this nation, starting with your state because you stood up to them to help your state improve fiscally which is totally against their wants. Other than that, you might have the doctors check to see if some of these union thugs spiked your food or drink with something that caused this. They way they have been showing their “way of peace”, (comparable to muslims’ “way of peace”) I wouldn’t put it past them.

Posted on July 28, 2011 at 12:43pmIn all fairness, it probably is due to his weight… I can’t attack liberals for pointing out the obvious. I can however attack them for being idiotic control freak hypocrites who only make such attacks on people who are on the opposite side of the aisle.
It’s not really about his weight for them. They’d defend him on his weight if he was a liberal. It’s just the only angle they have on the guy. They can’t take on his arguments, so they call him fatty. It’s pretty sad.

Asthma doesn’t have much to do with weight. I have a sister-in-law with asthma. She lost a trememdous amount of weight (went from a size 16 to a size 8) and still has asthma.
Report Post »N37BU6
Posted on July 28, 2011 at 1:05pmWell, considering there’s a higher risk of developing asthma among the overweight (as well as worsening asthma with gaining weight) you can hardly say they aren’t connected. Yes, lots of skinny people have it. But come on, the guy is clearly overweight. It’s a strain on the respiratory and circulatory systems. It does not improve anything, asthma or no asthma.
He can be overweight if he wants… I don’t care. But when health issues come knocking, don’t try to say weight plays no role. He isn’t blowing sunshine up our @$$£$, so we shouldn’t either. We just look as pathetic as liberals do when they circle the wagons for every little thing.
He’s fat. It isn’t helping anything. Period. Accept it and move on.

Posted on July 28, 2011 at 1:07pmN37BUG: The article stated that he has problems with asthma. My 22 year old niece is a fitness freak, was a college cheerleader for four years and suffers from horrible asthma attacks. I would hardly attribute someones asthma condition to body weight.

Governor Mike Huckabee has asthmatic attacks, and he has lost more weight than most people ARE.
Jackie Gleason could run 5 miles in one hour.
Babe Ruth could eat 12 hot dogs, drink a case of beer and play baseball, hitting home runs, and then have sex all night.
Glenn has accomplished an amazing amount without being in trim condition, so there!
The Governor needs more privacy, that’s what he needs. Too bad he is a public figure.
