‘No Community Has Suffered More’ In Recession Than ‘Latino Construction Workers’: Obama Labor Secretary

 

In a speech given at the Center for American Progress on Aug. 7th, Obama Labor Secretary Hilda Solis talked on the subject of job opportunities for the Latino community.

After noting that she want an economy that “works for everyone and not just the privileged few“ the Secretary warned that the Administration will continue to ”put pressure on congress to do the right thing and keep teachers, firefighters and police officers on the job.”

Solis then positioned to infrastructure, touting Obama’s vision to “put thousands of construction workers back on the job rebuilding our roads and our bridges.”  The Secretary then announced “And no community has suffered more, in my opinion, than those Latino construction workers.”  No sources were cited in this comment.

Solis has been under scrutiny for her activism while serving, including hanging posters of herself marching with partisans Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson in the Department of Labor building.

    I can’t believe this BS. Two yrs ago I had to let go 14 Americans and this Bi%ch says the latinos are the hardest hit, tell that to the families of those men .
    We are all seriously screwed if we don’t get these people out.

      Our business depends on the housing market, too and we have had to cut back on help. How can she possibly say this? What about the REST of us? I guess it doesn‘t ’HURT’ us?

      Construction work has been bad for everyone. Too many people can no longer afford homes and find work. Of course construction is going to be slowed. She’s selfishly trying to inject race for political points. The same method most Democrats use: divide the people.
      Who openly discriminates against Conservatives? Hollywood, government, public schools… and much of the private sector discretely discriminates by censoring Conservative/Libertarian speech and promoting “politically correct” speech… fascism.
      Of course there are white racists, but there‘s no way it’s as prevalent as Progressive Liberals claim it is. I’ve lived in three states and worked with people of all races over 30 years and never saw anyone treated unfairly. In fact, I’ve mostly seen the opposite – preferential treatment. For example, I filled out an application for a young Vietnamese man because his English was very, very poor. The application must have been almost complete nonsense because I don’t know Vietnamese. “Where did you work, addresses, bosses’ names, schooling…?” His answers sounded like gibberish to me, but I tried my best to write the Vietnamese sounds in our alphabet. His entire application was like that. He also had only 6 or 8 of education as I recall. He got the job immediately. In contrast, I had a great work record, born and raised in that state, and I applied many times and never even got a phone call saying, “We’re not interested.”

      Remember when Obama got elected, he was going to get construction up and running. Well he did and the same construction companys that have always done government construction is still same old, same old. You have to be union, no latino, no blacks and if they did hire latinos the latinos are to smart to give up 15% of their pay check + all the taxes. Tell them to come here to S. Oklahoma, where unemployment is 3.9% and those are the folks that don’t want to work. Solo Cup Co, Home Depot have permanent signs up saying “Now Hireing.” Of course thats only $8.50 an HR and most people that are getting unemployment make that and sleep in or go fishing every day.

      I agree if they are so freaking miserable tell them to go back from whence they traveled. If we went down there illegal, we would be in jail. There are not jobs for gringos in Mexico that is legal unless you own some business down there or run a business to hire Mexicans. This realationship is just a bit one-sided.

      Same here. My brother had his own electrical business, and kept losing jobs to companies that hired illegals. They could bid less, because they paid less to their workers. He has now closed his business, and is struggling by on a low wage job. He is just waiting for retirement at 62 years old , which fortunately will be the end of this year.

      How about them getting Contracts through he Government to work on Military installations?? even though they charge the Government for prevailing wages they do not. They pay the illegals under the table, so we the tax payer’s get screwed three times, 1 American workers no job 2 they do not pay taxes 3 they get Government assistance. How do they get on the bases in the first place, I was in Iraq have a perfect record and still go through hell just to visit friends in 29 palms, you can’t get on if you do not have a valid id, car insurance etc.???? Man things are backwards.

    Why do statistics have to be broken down by race? Why aren’t the statistics just “Unemployed Americans?” The unemployment labor statistics should include those whose unemployment benefits have run out, have quit looking, are working in part time jobs . . . then it would become a reliable statistic.

    Let’s see the statistic published of how many people were employed in 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012 – then even the most uninformed would be able to understand the problem!

    Our forefathers never died in wars, including wars with Mexico to hand over our prosperity to them. We have what we do because Americans have, in the past, worked, prayed and stayed together. Presently there are those in Congress allowing our wealth to be given away because they have not been doing their jobs. We owe no country our wealth and resources. We Americans should be demanding that our country be taken back and retored as it is meant to be.     No one? Not everyone who has been unemployed or underemployed? Just the Latinos have been hit that much harder. Because no one needs to earn a living more than Latino construction workers. The fact that college students only have 100k in debt doesn’t mean a thing. Those illegal Latino construction workers…GET OUT AND VOTE FOR A KEY COMPONENT TO THE “RECESSION”….I mean Depression of epic proportions. Being dominated by the O‘bama debt and Hairless Harry Reid’s inability to pass a BUDGET in the past 1100 days.       NO kidding! Drive around Florida .. they are the ONLY ones working on building homes that ARE being built .. mind you not many .. about 3 years ago two across the street from me .. so I had a front row seat .. now one a street over is being built and same thing .. they are all “latino” (hispanic) and I would bet on it most if not all are illegal. They will rent one small home in the area and 10 or more will live in it .. low overhead and their families are most likely in another area getting WELFARE!

    This country is not here to serve the Latino population, most of whom are not here legally. There are probably more jobs in Mexico, so maybe they ought to try “home” first. We have sent what jobs we have, for the most part out of the country. These people have no business in our country taking our jobs if they are not here legally. Obama is tryingto destroy the American White citizens.
