As we reported, Fox’s Sunday night broadcast of The Simpsons marked the second week in a row that the network has taken a shot at its corporate cousin, Fox News Channel. Last week, the animated prime-time show described Fox News viewers as “racist.” But by Monday, the most recent show’s opening sequence — which joked FNC was “unsuitable for viewers under 75” — had been scrubbed from its online version.
The original, as broadcast (h/t Mediaite):
New online version, via Hulu:
The first poke at FNC resulted in widespread media attention for the show, but perhaps the upper crust at corporate aren’t finding the joke so funny the second time around?

Posted on November 30, 2010 at 1:52amI don’t really view this as news. Yes, I like The Simpsons. I’m not a liberal, under 75, and decent IQ – until I shoot for a management position when I expect to lose a few points but increase my income.
Except for the first two episodes this season, I think Family Guy or The Cleveland Show is more suited for your attacks. I stopped watching FG because I thought they went too far, just like Cleveland Show is crossing that line for me now. A recent CS joked about not watching a child around a pool. …and the writers have no clue what a CPAP is. (They had Junior walking around with a CPAP mask, but no CPAP machine.) A CPAP is used in treating sleep apnea. The youngest child does almost drown, and there are jokes around that. The way Cleveland panics is supposed to be funny. …and people want to attack The Simpsons for taking jabs at Fox News viewers which include me.
I have no problem with poking fun at myself or laughing at myself.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 8:39pmHuh. So… did they scrub it because they realized it was stupid? …or are they just trying to keep from offending people online…? or… um… are they trying to cover it up? I don’t get it. That’s weird.
The Simpsons are way, way, WAY past their prime. They need to just fade away. I’d watch the first few seasons on DVD for sure, but not any of the recent episodes.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 7:10pmI thought Rupert Murdoch was supposed to be in complete control of what airs on his networks. Surely this doesn’t mean that FOX might actually be fair & balanced after all………..Howard Dean tells me it can be so and the gov’t should be in control.
Report Post »Eternal Lucy
Posted on November 29, 2010 at 7:50pmMurdoch is a businessman first and foremost. So he’ll do whatever it takes to please both sides: the libs who love crap like The Simpsons, and the “over 75” crowd who love FOX News.
Shame really.

Posted on November 29, 2010 at 9:24pmI will give major credit to Rupert Murdoch for recognizing that “Business is Business.” I have enjoyed The Simpsons off and on over the years – It’s irreverent humor, sometimes sheer brilliance. And perhaps someone may accidentally leave the station on and start the day with Fox news. Really not a bad marketing concept, working for 20+ years and counting. Mr. Murdoch may just be “Crazy like a FOX”. Hmmmm…
