No ‘Rich Men’ Fought Revolutionary War: Piven Declares ‘Love of My Life’ Occupy ‘Belongs’ Beside War of Independence in History

The Blaze’s Erica Ritz contributed to this report.

Frances Piven Says Occupy Deserves to be Alongside Revolutionary War in History

On May 12th Professor Frances Fox Piven gave an impassioned speech entitled “The Crisis and the Left” on behalf of the Socialist Register, a leading International leftist publication.  In the talk, she seized upon the “new love of her life,” the Occupy Wall Street movement, and launched into an elaborate description of how OWS deserves a prominent place in American History, on level with the Revolutionary War of 1776.

Key Piven Quotes:

  •  ”What I really want to talk about is, what is my, the love of my life now: Occupy.  I want to try to explain why Occupy is becoming one of those great, national movements that has changed American history–  But amazingly, very, very few people can locate Occupy in American history, and that’s what I want to try to do.”
  • “So let me say something about why I think Occupy belongs in a serious history of the United States.  In the United States we call this very sophisticated study of American political history “American political development.”  And now it isn’t just a study of great men, and they are all men– Betsy Ross just made the flag.”
  • “There‘s another history of the United States and it’s much more erratic, and much less easily described or explained by American institutions, and it’s much more important, and it gets much less attention– and that’s the history of protest movements, and the way protest movements impact on the existing constellation of institutions and interest groups and voter coalitions and alignments.”
  • “It’s a history that tells the story of the American Revolution and the War of Independence not as a war fought by the merchant and land-owning elites– actually they didn’t fight the war, you know, rich men don’t go to war–but it’s a history, rather, of the Revolutionary War as compounded not only of elite influence in gaining political independence from the British Crown and the British merchant class, but it’s a history also of the popular uprisings which generated enormous popular energy.”

  • “[In 1776] the ideas of radical democracy were sweeping the country at the time.  And if you pay attention the philosophy of radical democracy that animated the dirt farmers, and the artisans and the laborers– that doctrine was really a little like Occupy.”

  • “They believed government should never be far from where they were, and that they should be able to watch what it did.  There should only be a legislature– it should be unicameral, one House, no House based on property– and they believed also that they should be able to un-elect these characters every year.”

This great video shows how the current class warfare is eerily similar to Ayn Rand’s great book Atlas Shrugged.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure,

the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy,

its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery..”

      – Winston Churchill

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you’ll ever read:

Unfortunately, most voters don’t know this.

      1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.

      2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

      3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

      4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

      5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them; and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Actually to be historically correct one could say the Americans in the Revolutionary War from the British perspective were the first occupy movement. Occupy the Colonies. And for those who don’t actually know history, Americans owe an eternal debt to the Scotts, who caused Brittan to recall troops from American to squash an uprising in the British Isles. Oh and let’s not forget the assistance we got from France and the Indians. “The American forces asked a number of different Indian nations for their support in the war effort. General George Washington asked the Passamaquoddy of Maine to send him warriors. Massachusetts passed a resolution calling for 500 Micmac and Maliseet Indians to be employed in the Continental Army. While Maliseet chiefs Ambrose St. Aubin and Pierre Tomah supported the American cause, many Indians avoided the recruiting efforts.” But hey GB already clued you into the true history.

The maj were behind the men in the field. You cannot run an army without folks at home producing what it needs to fight and sustain itself. In those days many men needed leave to help with planting and harvesting. It was a real hardship for the women left behind who were just as heroic and important in the fight as the men that took up arms.

Why does the Blaze keep running stories on this unknown and irrelevent woman? How does the strategy of orchestrated crisis espoused by this unknown university professor and socialist connect in any way to Barack Obama his ties to ACORN and Community Organizing? Silly things like this for instance:
      1. Register as many Democrat voters as possible, legal or otherwise and get them to vote, multiple times if possible.
      2. Overwhelm the system with fake registrations, multiple entries of the same name, names of the dead, random names from the phone book, even made-up names.
      3. Make the system difficult to audit and police by calling for minimal identification standards.
Barack Obama ran ACORN’s Project Vote in Chicago.
      Or the Mortgage Crisis:
ACORN aggressively sought to balloon loans to low income groups using the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) as a blunt instrument. in 1991, ACORN took over the House Banking Committee room for two days to protest efforts to scale back the CRA.
Obama the non-profit lawyer represented ACORN in the Buycks-Roberson v. Citibank Federal Savings. Bank, suit ACORN then used its subsidiary, ACORN Housing, to promote subprime loans even harder.
Come on Blaze..stop putting up articles about this irrelevent and unknown professor and connecting her theories of manufactured crises to implement wealth redistribution to Obama. Who is Frances Fox Piven for crying out loud?

I have to agree. OWS is making history. They’re part of the historic change that began with the war btw the states, continued with the new deal and, more recently, GW Bush, Obama and now, Bush 2.0: Romney.

All are part of a conspiracy, consciously or unconsciously, to eradicate freedom and the constitution.

They’re out to kill the goose that laid the golden eggs. Freedom is what lead to our unprecedented wealth and prosperity. Freedom is why our poor ARE the 1% when compared with the rest of the world. OWS and co. want that wealth and prosperity and are prepared to take it, by force, via the govt and its legalized mugging and enslavement of the “rich.” Continue to kill freedom and with it die wealth and prosperity.

Or do you really think you’ll be rich when the legitimately rich are utterly robbed and bereft of their wealth. Trace whatever you’re getting from the govt back to its source. When the source dries up, so do your govt freebies.

George Washington was a poor man? Hmmm, maybe he was the only one. LOL. Now she is just making this up whole cloth. Can’t wait to see how JZS and ENCINO_NAMBLA_MAN will support her stance. Should be humorous.

This woman is so totally delusional. She actually imagines she’s influencing American history. I guess all Marxist-communists are delusional anyway. But the people who are REALLY delusional are the ones who still imagine they can actually get an education at any university in the USA anymore. Communists don’t educate. They indoctrinate. This lunatic is a perfect example of why Americans are falling to the lowest end of the scale in education worldwide. She deserves to be fired.

A fading dream and the prospects of fullfilling that (rotten) dream are all this old bag has left. The fact that she threw the this fading ideal to the only folks that will even listen to her propaganda is merely a case of ther was no one else left (pun unintended) to take up her delusional life’s “cause”. I think it’s safe to say that a common character flaw among these folks is a grossly overinflated sense of self worth/self importantance, that over time if left to feed and grow, transcends into a near state of megalomania. Zero has this trait in spades (pun intended).

More allusions to conflict, wars and insurrection by Piven to insinuate violence and conflict to her thralls. More red meat for the brownshirts. Glorifying their chaos and destruction as “the love of my life” and likening it to the birth of a nation. The similarities to Hitler and Lenin are stark.

Where freedom from oppression was the goal of the American revolution, for free men to live in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…Piven wants to see a state controlled socialist utopia set up in it’s place.
    This woman is vulgar….

That’s for sure. They belong in history – far back in history, along with all the other collectivists who have failed to achieve anything but chaos, contention, and misery.
