No Sarah Again: Palin Turns Down Invite to Give CPAC Keynote

For the third-straight year, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has turned down an invitation to speak at one of the most high-profile conservative gatherings of the year.
Palin has declined an invitation to give the keynote address at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington next week citing scheduling conflicts. “February is our busiest winter month and with all the prior obligations and outside travel already scheduled for the month I had to forgo some of the opportunities in the Lower 48,” Palin told the Washington Post Thursday.
Palin has, however, accepted similar invites in the past, including the Southern Republican Leadership Conference (SRLC) in New Orleans last April. “I’m looking forward to addressing conservative activists from across the south at the 2010 Southern Republican Leadership Conference,” she said at the time. “This is a great opportunity to listen and speak to those who are helping to set the direction of our party.”
Palin’s continuing absence from CPAC has stirred up rumors that the one-time vice presidential hopeful does not want to be affiliated with the conference and its primary organizer, the American Conservative Union (ACU).
At the center of Palin’s decision may be the role David Keene, head of the ACU. According to Politico, Keene asked FedEx for $2-3 million last fall to gain the group’s support in a legislative battle with business rival UPS. At the time, a Palin spokeswoman responded to the move by simply affirming Palin’s support for “those who advance our core beliefs and lead by principle.”
While Keene has not directly responded to the accusations, he has characterized ACU’s relationship with Palin and her staff in the past as “very cordial and respectful.”
“Governor Palin has our admiration and we are disappointed that she will not be able to attend CPAC this year, but hope she will attend in the future,” Keene said.
While they may be “cordial” to one another, Keene has been a vocal critic of Palin in the past. In 2009, Keene told Newsmax magazine that Palin was “whining” about negative press coverage and that she was not ready to be a prime candidate.
“Conservatives like her, but you’ve got to have more than that,” Keene said. “You’ve got to be more than a rock star. If in fact she’s interested in the presidency, she has got to establish herself as someone you can envision in the Oval Office. And it’s become more difficult to envision than it was at the time of the election.”
Additionally, an aide to Palin last year criticized Keene and CPAC for putting “special interests over core beliefs” and “pocketbook over policy.”
“That’s not what CPAC should be about and people are tiring,” the source said. “Palin is taking a stance against this just as she did in Alaska.”
If she had agreed to deliver CPAC’s keynote address this year, Palin would follow the likes of conservative radio hosts Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck who have addressed the conference over the last two years, respectively.
Other possible candidates who are set to speak at CPAC next month include former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney; former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty; former House Speaker Newt Gingrich; Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour; Sen. John Thune, S.D.; Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels; and former Sen. Rick Santorum, Pa.
However, Palin will not be the only well-known conservative to skip this year’s CPAC. Several others – including Sens. Jim DeMint and Marco Rubio – have announced that they, too, will be skipping the annual conference this year.

The Koch family, America’s biggest financial backers of the Tea Party, would not be the billionaires they are today were it not for the godless empire of the USSR.
April 17, 2010 |
The Tea Party movement’s dirty little secret is that its chief financial backers owe their family fortune to the granddaddy of all their hatred: Stalin’s godless empire of the USSR. The secretive oil billionaires of the Koch family, the main supporters of the right-wing groups that orchestrated the Tea Party movement, would not have the means to bankroll their favorite causes had it not been for the pile of money the family made working for the Bolsheviks in the late 1920s and early 1930s, building refineries, training Communist engineers and laying down the foundation of Soviet oil infrastructure.

“…In 1925, Fred C. Koch joined an MIT classmate Lewis E. Winkler at an engineering firm in Wichita, Kansas, which was renamed the Winkler-Koch Engineering Company. In 1927 they developed a more efficient thermal cracking process for turning crude oil into gasoline. This process threatened the competitive advantage of established oil companies, which sued for patent infringement. Temporarily forced out of business in the United States, they turned to other markets, including the Soviet Union, where Winkler-Koch built 15 cracking units between 1929 and 1932. During this time, Koch came to despise communism and Josef Stalin’s regime.[9][10] In his 1960 book, A Business Man Looks at Communism, Koch wrote that he found the Soviet Union to be “a land of hunger, misery, and terror.’[11] According to Charles G. Koch, ‘Virtually every engineer he worked with [there] was purged.’[10]…”

Beck uses less evidence and “facts” to demonize the Rooservelts, WIlson, etc. Tea-Party backing comes from a company that did direct business with Stalin, Stalin entered into a treaty with Hitler and Hitler was a nazi, therefore the Tea-Party is the Nazi Party. Where’s a blackboard when I need it.

If she spoke and got paid, it’s bad. Her not speaking should thrill them, but they complain about it; you‘d think the libs would thrill to know she’s not out there ‘spreading more of her lies and hate’, as they put it so often.
Palin is a dolt, liberals say, but they call her a quitter even though a dolt is bad to have as governor. You’d think lefties would find her leaving office is a good thing. But they just have to be contrary, for its own sake it seems so often.
Sarah is a narcissist, they say, but she manages to turn down chances to make an appearance (and maybe get paid those big bucks for it). Narcissists don’t normally turn down chances to be seem. (watch–some lib will pipe up and say Sarah’s not normal even as a narcissist–run with that circular logic for a moment…)
If liberals had nothing to complain about, they’d have nothing to do. Libs are useless, except for the entertainment of the unintentional comedy they occasionally provide.

Posted on February 3, 2011 at 6:51pmRemember when “common sense conservative” Sarah Palin went to Georgia to campaign for Karen Handel in her runoff with Nathan Deal? You better believe the Handel campaign does because they are still literally paying for Palin’s visit. Palin’s demand of a $92,000 private jet and a $13,000 hotel room left the campaign $83,000 in debt.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, “Handel’s campaign paid an Ohio jet charter service nearly $92,000 and her latest campaign finance report shows it was for the Palin event. Handel also paid an additional $13,000 in expenses to the InterContinental Hotel in Buckhead for the event. Handel’s quarterly report shows her campaign committee to be $28,000 in debt, with another $55,000 in outstanding expenses.”
Here is the important thing. Handel lost. Sarah Palin bilked the Handel campaign out of over $100,000 and left them defeated and in debt. In a race that Handel lost by only 2,579 votes, do you think the campaign is second guessing their decision to spend six figures on a jet and hotel rooms for Sarah Palin? That money could have been used to aid the get out the vote effort on Election Day instead of meeting Sarah Palin’s need to be treated like an A-lister?
The big question is why didn’t SarahPAC pay for this? Why did Palin force the Handel campaign to foot the bill? She was campaigning for a Republican candidate, which is exactly the kind of expense that a PAC can legally pay for. The answer is that Palin didn’t want to pay the bill because then she could not get the first class treatment that she feels entitled to. She did not want private jet and expensive hotel to be on SarahPAC’s disclosure report, so like any good crook, she ENRONed it up, and moved her elitist tastes off her books.
The issue isn’t that Palin used a jet, or stayed in a nice hotel. It is the fact that this so called “common sense conservative” didn’t think twice about running up a huge bill so that she could live the high life. The $100,000 spent to pamper Palin did nothing to help Handel. In fact, it might have cost her the runoff. If Palin cared about helping Handel win, she would have never billed her personal expenses to the campaign. You better believe that Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee aren’t charging a hundred grand to Republican candidates for air fair and hotels. It is a safe bet that Palin’s greed and her lack of results did not go unnoticed in Republican campaign headquarters around the country.

Posted on February 3, 2011 at 7:46pmWith all due respect Mr. Riprock, you fail to address the rather substantive information his post. I can’t speak with any experience on the costs of private jets, but $13,000 in hotel costs seems more likely to come from Paris Hilton or the nephew of an Arab sheik. Ms Palin is positioned, whether by herself or her advisors, as a simple woman of common place values and responsible practices in all things -family, politics and the danger and immorality of overspending. Any objective analysis of this information could easily lead one to believe that the hillbilly shopping spree of the McCain campaign was something more than an anomaly.
And speaking of hillbillies, something your screen name suggests an intimate knowledge of on your part, few hillbillies would use the kind of puerile language found in your post. I’ve seen you claim to have bookshelves stuffed with tomes on economics. If that is the case, I would hope that such ambitious study would also instill an equally in depth philosophy of honest appraisal (and argumentation). Well, Whitey, I did my best to get in touch with Sarah to get her to retract her support, and I was “loaded” (pun intended) with reasons for my request. Karen Handel is not even SoS material, not with her record. You did hear about the court case involving the lie about one of her subordinates, didn’t you? Well, the woman was found NOT GUILTY, much to Handel’s displeasure. That’s probably what cost her the governorship.
And, if Handel is still having to pay for Sarah Palin’s endorsement, I hope she is still paying Palin until one of them dies!
Karen Handel was opposed to fixing the voting machines so that they could be audited as REQUIRED BY GEORGIA LAW.
If Karen Handel had to pay Palin $100,000, she had a campaign fund FOR THAT PURPOSE. If Handel made a bad decision, she didn‘t need to be in the governor’s office in the first place. She’s a damned RINO.

Posted on February 3, 2011 at 6:48pmWell, a few wacko dolts and idiots comment negatively… why bother?
It is very simple… Sarah Palin will be celebrating her birthday on Feb. 11th and probably would not want to try to make it to Washington the next day to speak at 5 PM or so. Since it is a minimum of 7-8 hrs flying time, why bother? Personally I would rather she stay at home and celebrate with friends and family, people more important than the narcissists, hangers on and money grubbers at CPAC.
In addition, February is Iron Dog Race month in Alaska… the Indy 500 of snow machines… so, since Todd is back this year with a new partner and hoping to do well, I imagine Sarah will also be around to support her man.
In the scheme of things, I think family for Sarah is more important than kissing some political consultant’s butt…. let the “He Men” of the Republican Party take care of that since they seem to do so well at it.
By the way, these are the same “He Men” who never stand up to the media and defend Sarah whenever she is attacked…. when the tough get going, the Republican men can be found in the bathroom fixing their hair.

The criticism from the lefties is predictable and follows a pattern. The left is flopping around without any values or integrity. That is why they act smug with sarcastic and cynical comment. They have no ethics – their President is in contempt of court for violating the Constitution (the left doesn’t respect the constitution anyway) and his cabinet is lawless in their behavior.

Posted on February 4, 2011 at 2:33amGov. Palin resigned because she recognized the cost that the frivolous ethics complaints were having on her state , and she saw how much of her staff’s time and her own time were forced to deal with those issues. She wasn’t able to effectively fulfill her role as Governor, so she passed the reins onto someone who didn’t have to be concerned that if he sneezed in the Lower 48, an ethics complaint would be thrown at him.
Gov. Palin’s entire administration was paralyzed by those frivolous complaints.
She promised to keep the frivolous anti-Palin law suits away from the Alaskan people ( saving tax money ) and to be more effective on the stump ( supporting candidates , fundraising, etc)
Sarah Palin was truthful on both accounts!
(Who has been leading the charge to put the constitutional limitations on Big Government? Who, along with the TPM, has caused the bulk of the 2010 GOP increases in our Congress?
Governor Palin has endorsed 73 candidates for the US House of
Representatives and Senate; state governors and attorney generals. Her success rate is at 71%.
18 out of 20 targets in her Take Back the 20 campaign ; this is a 90% success rate!)
In an article Gov. Palin said:
“I said, ‘Enough. Political adversaries and their political friends in the media will not destroy my State, my administration, nor my family. Enough.’ I knew if I didn’t play their game any longer, they could not win. I would not retreat, I would instead reload, and I would fight for what is right from a different plane.”
She saw that if she stayed on as Governor it would continue to cost the state millions of dollars in wasted time and resources to defend against false and maliciously ethics complaints and doom it to gridlock.
Between the frivolous ethics complaints, 27 in 6 months, and the uncooperative legislature, who had previously worked very well with her, she determined that she could no longer serve Alaskans well.
The ethics complaint investigations had cost Alaskans $2+ million dollars in 6 months. In the 3 weeks between when she announced her resignation and when she stepped down, 3 more complaints came in. At that rate, these systematic complaints would have cost Alaskans $8 million by the end of her term.
She also saw that her family was not personally in debt for $500,000 for 6 months of ethics charges. Again, at that rate, her family would have been in debt $2 million by the end of her term.
She had also fufilled all the campaign promises she made, i.e., ethics reform, budget cutting, earmark cutting, getting the natural gas pipeline off high center through an open, transparent, and competitive process!!
Gov. Palin had to step down for the better of her state and it was the honorable thing to do.

In my humble opinion, it is unfortunate that the Kool Aid Progressives believe that clear examples of simple stupidity are a fault of society.
