No Spin Zone? O‘Reilly Asks Romney if Obama Is ’a Socialist’ & He Says…

“Is he a socialist?” asks FOX News’s blunt television host Bill O’Reilly.

“I prefer to use the term that ‘he’s just over his head,’” the former governor of Massachusetts responds with what he must have thought was a safe answer.

“Yeah, but you gotta’ look at his economic plan, and that economic plan was top down, federal leadership getting us out of the recession — we spent trillions of dollars–and people say, ‘Listen, the guy’s a socialist!‘ It’s class warfare; that‘s what he’s going to wage against you if you get the nomination,” O’Reilly says, gesturing towards Romney.

“You’re a rich guy, you’re out of touch,” the host adds.

Concluding his prediction that Romney should prepare for “class warfare” should he earn the GOP nomination, Bill O’Reilly repeats the question.

“Is he a socialist?”

“You know, I consider him a ‘big government’ liberal democrat. I think as you look at his policies, you conclude that he thinks Europe got it right and we got it wrong,” Romney answered, again avoiding the question.

“I think Europe got it wrong. I think Europe is not working in Europe and I’ll battle him on that day in and day out,” Romney added.

Watch the O’Reilly interview:

While some analysts would applaud Romney’s refusal to out-and-out accuse the president of being a “socialist,” other commentators would disagree with this tactic.

Back in March, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said the following:

So the presidential campaign, here’s the question. You got an incumbent, Barack Hussein Obama. Does the Republican nominee focus on what we all believe to be true, the guy’s got a different view of the American tradition than all the rest of us? Do we say…Obama as anti-traditional American values, do we say this guy is a socialist, this guy’s models consist of Marx and Alinsky, do we go that way, do we point that out?

Or do we say to ourselves, you know what, most people don’t want to think that about their president. There‘s such reverence for the office that people don’t want to think that even if they admit that they made a mistake in voting for the guy, they don‘t want to think that they’ve elected somebody who is essentially an enemy of traditional American founding values…

In other words, do we depersonalize this and strictly focus the reelection campaign in the opposition to Obama on policy or do we go full bore and warn the American people why his policies are what they are?

I dare say that if you are of the camp that wants to hear the Republican presidential nominee talk about the guy’s a socialist, the guy doesn’t believe in traditional American founding values, that you’re gonna be sad and disappointed. You’re not gonna have a candidate say that. The candidate is gonna accept that Obama’s a legitimate American politician, a legitimate president, just got totally cockeyed policies. We’re gonna hear policy this, policy that, that‘s why we’re in the dumper.

Based on the widespread assumption that Mitt Romney will be the GOP presidential nominee, and based on his answers during the O’Reilly segment, it would appear that Limbaugh’s prediction was spot-on accurate.

Bellow is a link to what I believe is a fair assessment of Mitt’s record based on articles, interviews, debates. I also believe that his explanations during the recent Iowa debate outline how he could say things like wanting to have abortion safe and legal – because it was under the umbrella of being the governor of Massachussetts, and therefore required to uphold and maintain the law of the idiots who voted those kinds of butchering laws in, even though he was “personally against it”. See for yourself. The guys who assembled this website, I think, did a fantastic job. Good luck and God speed.

I disagree. I think Romney is a conservative through and through. I believe him to be fair and accountable which is how he strives to govern and yes who he is, what his values are, who he is striving to be play a great deal into that.
To be sure the American public wants someone to voice their case against a man who is currently usurping the office of the presidency. A man who along with democratic leaders have sought and succeeded in many ways to consolidate power unto themselves to pursue a global-socialist agenda to bring the US economy and society down from it‘s sound origins to the world’s standards in an effort to level the playing field.
Our concerns are the obvious ones to all…
Mitt Romney is a good man. He is also the better man. He will likely also be the better leader. We would like to see him deal with Obama and those that have so blatantly abused their power by publicly denouncing them, illegitimizing their authority and the policies they have enacted to damage us as a nation. We want the wrongs rectified.
Mitt is a balance and principled centered man unlike we have seen in a very long time. We understand his dispositions and clearly know he is a man of integrity that will consistently strive for the higher ground. He has my respect.
Tempering that reality with our need for justice in light of the last 3+ years IS the balancing act!

Here is the quintessential difference between ron paul supporters and republicans.

Republicans want obama stopped. Ron Paul supporters want a constitutional government.

If Ron Paul will stop Obama, but Mitt/Newt/Michele/Rick/Jon/Rick won’t return us to a constitutional government, doesn’t that mean that the wisest choice for a nominee is Ron Paul? He will serve the interest of both groups.

Ron Paul’s supporters are not willing to compromise a constitutional government on the short term for continued unconstitutional rule on the long term. Republicans just want the current president out. Establishment Republicans want Obama out but a continued support for unconstitutional government.

So you have to ask yourself. Are you a Republican? If so, are you a Ron Paul republican, and advocate constitutional government – or are you an Establishment Republican and you want to see progressive socialism continue?

If you don’t want either, which are you more comfortable with? A constitutional government, or socialism?

This is the simplest way to reason to your choice. Before you ask, there is no such thing as a compromise between consitutional and unconstitutional. It is one or the other – you must choose to preserve our constitution by supporting the candidate that will absolutely adhere to it, or to let it fade even further by voting for anyone else.

No, it shows he is great with strategy. He knows the left and independents will use that against him and it may hurt his chances of beating Obama. Interesting that candidates usually work on their base in the primary and then flip-flop to gain the independents. Romney set himself up in the middle to win both sides, not having to flip-flop, but be honest to both sides.

This is a strategy that may hurt him with some on the right, but most of those wouldn’t vote for him anyway. This is why the independents are favoring him. Plus Romney has Obama’s record to eviscerate the President and has attacked him un-mercifully. That is why Romney is the only one to get a response from Obama, such as Romney helped Obama reconsider his Hawaii vacation and foreign policy rhetoric.

The reason Romney won’t call Obama a socialist is that he knows the definition of socialist, so he would be lying to call him one. No one posting here seems to know the meaning of the word socialist. So add “socialist” to the list of words not understood by those here at The Blaze, the list includes socialist, communist, Nazi, Fascist, unconstitutional, conservative, impeachment, teason and natural-born. 10th grade history students know the definitions of these words. But this new breed of “conservative” certainly does not. Perhaps it is why our primary is full of historical gaffes, name-calling and general buffoonery. These candidates are playing to the new base of the Republican Party. The old base, 50 times larger than this tea-party wing, is going to leave us without saying goodbye (as they started to in ‘08) if our party is hijacked further to the wing-nut, reactionary, bigoted, nationalistic extreme right. Tough to win a general election when average middle-American voters think we are led by buffoons and cranks. Educated Americans are smart enough to know Obama is not a socialist or a fascist and realize that comparing him to Adolph Hitler and the Third Reich is intellectually and historically irresponsible. The tea-party calls such educated Americans “elite”, for it seems to this new race of “conservatives”, “elite” actually means “smarter than we are”. Read a book, try a dictionary, it won’t kill you. If you don’t, it will kill the GOP as

If we are going to straighten out this mess, we need God back in America. The only way to invite God back is to choose a candidate that is inherently, truly Christian. I am not saying this because Romney is a Mormon; I happen to believe (and I know a lot of you do not) that Mormons are Christians. However, I am saying this based on how the candidates act and how they conduct themselves. The only ones possibly Christian enough to help us are Michele Bachman (by far), maybe Rick Santorum (don’t know enough about him yet), and maybe, maybe Ron Paul. I really think Bachman is our best bet if we focus on Christian values and fundamentals. She has proven she cannot be bought and she has a high standard of moral values that shine through in everything she does. It‘s not about who’s the best politician. It’s about who will do what God wants done. Let’s keep that in mind and let Him direct our paths.

If you want to talk about conducting themselves then Romney should be there. He opposed every piece of pro-abortion legislation that came passed his desk. He fought with the Catholic Church and evangelical groups to fight the Contraception pill and gay marriage. He even sued the legislature to vote on allowing the people vote on banning gay marriage, that was his personal lawsuit and gay marriage ban. He has always fought on the side of life and traditional marriage. That is his record, for that reason he should definitely be part of that list.

Romney has fought for pro-life and pro-traditional marriage causes throughout his whole time in office. Thank goodness he saw the errors of his ways when it came to taking government out of restricting abortions. He once fought to keep government out until he saw how much Roe v. Wade cheapened life. This is why the Catholic church in Massachusetts and many evangelical leaders stood behind him throughout his administration. The Pilot Catholic News wrote about this, his conversion and they are the ones to know since they were some that worked beside him in Mass.

Thank you! I have been preaching your sentiment to my friends and family ever since Romney declared. When are we going to stop compromising on our core convictions in order to nominate the most “Electable” candidate. Put the most qualified and principled candidate up against Obama win or loose.

Romney is spineless and wishy-washy and he doesn’t have it in him to confront BHO. That’s why the liberal media keeps putting Romney as the front runner in the polls. The libs are HOPING Romney is the Republican candidate.

Any one of the other candidates will / are confronting BHO head on and BHO’s scared of them. BHO knows Romney’s a changes-direction-with-the-wind kinda guy, just like he is. BHO’s just better at devious than Romney is and, therefore, BHO believes he can beat Romney.

Imho, the primaries could show some surprises. Even tho the media keeps talking up Newt vs Romney, Grassroots America might have some better ideas. We haven’t heard the last from Bachmann and Santorum. And, Perry can’t be counted out either. A dark horse could come galloping to the front. Interesting To Watch!

THE ENTIRE USA is a Socialist Structure so the question is irrelevent as this candidate will ONLY be running for The King of The Land of Socialism (which in the end will be Communism)

Each ILLUSION OF FREEDOM is Government Control……One done financially and implementing “Laws” to the masses AND the other by the barrel of a gun.

You are so correct. When I studied political science in the indoctrination station we studied Marx and Communism. I just remember thinking back then that the USA was closer to following the teachings of Socialis then the USSR or China

Want to understand Bill O’Reilly ? 20% of Fox News stock is owned by the king of saudi arabia and another 8% is owned by one of his nephew princes and who knows how much is owned by other muslim terrorists. And if anyone thinks that they don’t influence news content then then simply need to remove their head from their dark smelly place……

so your implying the “GOP” news source is backed by terrorists and this is somehow influencing how GOPers think for the worse…. YET GOPers are more prone to think foreign intervention in the middle east is neccessary? So your saying the terrorists are backing fox to teach us GOPer sheep that we shouldnt trust the middle east… wow really good logic at trying to prove fox is evil moron.

Must be why O’Reilly is a contributor to the Jewish World Review, and why Fox always presents its stable of neocon Jews like Krauthammer, Kristol, Goldberg… . Fox News President Peter Chernin is Jewish. Murdoch’s father was half Jewish.
      Facts go against your claim.

“I think as you look at his policies, you conclude that he thinks Europe got it right and we got it wrong,” Romney answered, again avoiding the question.”

I really despise politicians. He tried to not appear to say yes, while saying yes, where you could not accuse him of saying yes.

“Europe got it right/wrong” means got what right/wrong? Socialism, guys, c’mon. Geesh.

Didn’t John McCain take this kind approach..?

That’s the way to do it …Stay on point….
You don’t want to be-friend any potential , future business associates . Or take this opportunity to make a stand against mandated health-care that YOU.. were guilty of and you continuously say, you where wrong and now “You see the error of your ways” and that you have Changed …LIAR…!
You had your chance to tell the world the difference ,on your views , between socialism and “the new Mitt” ideology. I’m so sick of people saying he learned from his mistakes. But out of his own mouth..!
You had a chance Mr. Romney…to show the difference between “the New Mitt Romney” and B.H.O. on socialism.
      And you blew it ….!
Obama’s team and his media minions ,will drag you through the all you can eat
      Socialist-salad-bar . Like I said before He’s Obama-Lite..!
Just another False-Patriot-Elitist trying to grab the GOP nomination .
That way He will have a …Seat at the table …!
Just like…. John McCain…When he graciously excepts defeat !

OOKSPAY – You have good sight. I love the neighborhood example to @ScottSCOBIG above! That is it. Reality. Okie From Muskogee needs some additional facts, he has only read the Ron Paul script book to you! I get a kick out of people like him. All those wars we intervened in, Iraq vs. Kuwait, Iraq vs. Iran, Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, took all their oil. HA! Well where is it? The interventions were about defending our allies. Ron Paul says don‘t look at what’s happening to them. Pretend it’s not there. War is out there, there are enemies trying to kill us & Israel everyday. Totally clueless people with this no more war crap. Sounds great but it is not logical.. Let’s hope neither Romney or Paul is the nominee or like you say, we will get our a$$’s kicked big time.

Exactly, it is driving me crazy. I thought this election should be a foregone conclusion, but with the defection of Fox, it is going to be a long row to hoe. I am so disapointed in foxnews, it is evedent that for the last year and a half they are towing the liberal line. Pushing Romney on us is unforgiveable.
