‘Nonsense’: France Mandates All Drivers Carry Breathalyzer Kits

France Law Now Requires Breathalyzer Kit, High visibility Safety Vest and Warning Triangle for Drivers|

Drivers in France now risk an on-the-spot fine if they don’t have two breathalyzer kits in their cars, according to reports. Not only that, they must also have a high-visibility safety vest and a warning triangle, in addition to a slew of other requirements.

Though the law went into effect Sunday, there is a four-month grace period while everyone adapts– partially because after the government mandated that everyone buy a breathalyzer, there was a shortage of breathalyzer kits in the country.

The BBC explains that two types of kits will be accepted: expensive electronic ones that can be reused, and cheap chemical ones. And while breathalyzer manufacturers– of which there are only two in France– are obviously thrilled, drivers’ groups apparently claim that the measure has been “foisted on France” by clever lobbying.

According to French police, the measure will be enforced through random checks, and is obviously intended to curb drunk driving.

While a British driver said the “whole idea…sounds like nonsense,” the New York Daily News is reporting that “some law enforcement officials in the United States said mandatory breathalyzers in cars could be taken for a spin here.”

“If they were mandatory in every vehicle, the roads would be safer, there’s no doubt about that,” Capt. Ted Richardson of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina said.

But could that ever really happen?

If not implemented on a federal level, like in France, there’s certainly a possibility of it in cities and states. If Bloomberg can regulate how many ounces of soda a person drinks in one serving, there’s certainly cause to implement measures against drunk driving.

This is dumb, but I’d support zero tolerance for drunks on the road. Get convicted once and lose your license forever. I guarantee that’ll change this behavior.

It took me two seconds to figure out how to beat their stupid system and I hope the first person who crashes their car, crashes it into a politician.

Obama-crapcare, more news of corruption within this administration coming out each and every day. But hey, Hollywood and the mainstream media must be right? Over those damn Republicans! Well let Obamacare be a warning of things to come if nothing else. I am 52. I will be priced out of being able to afford insurance as I work for a small company and they will surely pass on the insurance. I am on life-supporting meds which I won’t be able to afford so Obama will kill me and I am sure many others out there too.

‘(1) IN GENERAL- The Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shall carry out a collaborative research effort under chapter 301 of title 49 to continue to explore the feasibility and the potential benefits of, and the public policy challenges associated with, more widespread deployment of in-vehicle technology to prevent alcohol-impaired driving.
‘(2) REPORT- The Administrator shall annually submit a report to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate and the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the House of Representatives that–
‘(A) describes progress in carrying out the collaborative research effort; and
‘(B) includes an accounting of the use of Federal funds obligated or expended in carrying out that effort.
In a letter to a constituent by Sen. Schumer he states the following:
‘ To address these needs, the Senate passed the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21), which would provide $39 Billion in highway funding. This comprehensive bill would incorporate important safety provisions including the Research of Alcohol Detection Systems for Stopping Alcohol-related fatalties. Everywhere (ROADS SAFE) Act, which would support a program to develop in-vehicle technology to prevent drunk driving such as ignition interlock.

  I think number nine is being thrown out along with plastic grocery bags. Bottled water is BAD! Tap water is now said to be perfectly fine to drink since plastic bottles are now the enemy. Maybe we can replace the bottled water mandate with a re-usable grocery bag. lol

Sounds like the nonsense you have to deal with when you have a boat, you need life jackets for each passenger, horn, numbers of the right size and in the right spot, flares and they best not be expired, anchor, paddle, etc. etc. libs. will do the same for cars, it’s all about the money, you got a car or boat, you got enough to pay some fines once in a while. Libs are nothing more than pirates, all thieves, you have they want it.

The next step is TAXing those who DO NOT drink booze. You people are not contributing the liquor tax revenue.. same with cigarettes, tax if you do not smoke, tax if you do not have moving violations, parking tickets, arrest records, hell why not force people to put LEO enabled locks on all your doors.. then the guvmint can let you outside only when you’ve paid all your G,D, TAXES.
