North Korea to Head UN Conference…on Disarmament?

Just when you thought the U.N. couldn’t disgrace itself any further or become any less relevant to serious world citizens — it tops itself again.

This time around, the U.N has appointed North Korea, with its nuclear ambitions, to chair of the U.N. Conference on Disarmament. You read that correctly. A conference on disarmament is being chaired by a country bent on developing its own nuclear weapons arsenal. Given the U.N.’s history of dubious appointments, however, this may not come as a suprise.

The Weekly Standard reports:

On Tuesday, the United Nations again made itself an international laughing stock – except perhaps to the American taxpayers who continue to foot 22 percent of the bill – by appointing North Korea chair of the U.N. Conference on Disarmament. That would be the same North Korea that, according to an article this week by Senator John Kerry, head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has “twice tested nuclear weapons…is developing missiles to carry them…has built facilities capable of producing highly enriched uranium for more nuclear weapons” and has defied a U.N. arms embargo by exporting weapons and sensitive technologies to rogue regimes.

Alas, Senator Kerry is also one of the lead champion of the United Nations in the Senate.  According to the U.N., “The Conference is funded from the UN regular budget, reports to the General Assembly and receives guidance from it.”

North Korea to Head UN Conference...on Disarmament?

North Korea’s representative of the conference So Se Pyongof,  vowed to do “everything in his capacity to move the Conference on Disarmament forward.”

Not surprisingly, the chairmanship was praised by an Iranian delegate who assured Pyongof the Iranian delegation would give North Korea its “full support and cooperation.”

Weekly Standard went on to describe other delegates reaction:

Congratulations also poured in from such upstanding world citizens and U.N. fans as China. China’s Wang Qun “welcomed the presidency of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”

It was left to the Canadian delegate to speak plainly. Canada’s Marius Grinius said: “[I]n the last 13 years the Conference has failed to move forward on its core disarmament responsibilities, including the negotiation of a Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty…[T]he Conference on Disarmament is on life support because it no longer is the sole multilateral negotiating forum for disarmament. Indeed, it is not negotiating anything and has not been for a very long time.”

This say’s it ALL!! If this kind of thing doesn’t wake people up then NOTHING ever will. This is where our money is going! How long will we as tax payers give our money away with no accountability. The gov has squandered the peoples money and continues to do so. I know give to caser what is caser’s, but when do we say enough is enough? Didn’t our fore fathers say “enough is enough” with taxes already?

Well, where does the UN go from there. Dear Leader has a history of covert selling of nuclear technology, Syria comes to mind for some reason. Since obama and NATO have gone into Libya based on a humanitarian purpose aka The Right To Protect” (Power), why not go into North Korea, especially at the moment Dear Leader is conducting his new found chairmanship at the UN. Folks, why does “inside out, Top Down, Bottom UP” come to mind. Our world has become a crazy place. Why you may ask, well, we’ve got the UN and Hillary pushing the Small Arms Treaty which is an attack on our 2nd Amendment rights, while concurrently the UN picks North Korera to head up it’s dissarmament chair. If you don‘t think that’s nuts, then nothing is.

This is not surprising considering that earlier last year Iran was given the commission to lead the human rights seat within the United Nations. So this is how the UN rewards dictators? And some at the UN fear they’ll lose credibility? Come on! The freaking organization hasn’t been credible for decades. I’m sorry folks, but the UN has become the League of Nations of the 21st century and Obama the Woodrow Wilson of our era. God help us.

However, I thought that Glenn said that the Blaze was going to lead the news with stories that you cannot get anyplace else. Almost all of the news stories on here I have read either much earlier in the dayfrom a link on Drudge or maybe even the day before.

You are taking the UN as a serious organization, when in fact the world leaders do NOT! The USA should be ashamed of itself for letting the world into our country to attend these meetings – or spy on us, whatever they may want to do…. When will our politicians wake up and listen to we the people and get rid of all of the unnecessary baggage we carry around the world. We are NOT the world police! Just name the last time any country actually thanked us for our sacrifices? Why are we continuing to spend the billions we spend in third world countries, while all along we are ourselves becoming a third world country? Get a grip and take care of America FIRST and let the respect of envious nations come to us, not the other way around.

EVERYTHING! don’t be fooled that its just some side project & we’re a long way off from actually being governed by the U.N>Sustainable Development MEANS BEING LEGISLATED THROUGH THE U.N.,in everything-like the HealthCare bill & the “death panel”,that has already begun telling doctors how and what to prescribe,& how many-what amounts of drugs pharmacies can hold, unannounced shipping dates& pharmaceuticals have already been regulated to make drugs specific ways,& how many–THE MORE DEBT OBAMA SEEMINGLY DESIRES TO AGGRANDIZE(telling Boeing where they can open business, not allowing drilling/opening ANY of our resources why?u guessed it,environ-mental[Sus/Dev]=more dependant on foreign oil,but invest OUR $ in Brazilian offshore drilling?guess who drove that one,& had money invested in Petro-Bras?yup,Soros,so every button Obama pushes=more debt)THE MORE WE HAVE TO OBEY THE U.N. & LIKELY SOROS WILL GET WISH OF 1 WORLD CURRENCY-OUR SOVEREIGNTY IS AT STAKE IN THE NEXT ELECTION PPL! The USA hosts the UN and pays more than a quarter of its costs. Added to this, the US fights most of the wars for them, as leader and main provider in coalitions, while suffering unending criticism from those nations who contribute little and fight not at all.. Those wars that the UN conducts are an humiliating example of how not to do it.

The western nations should abandon this corrupt organisation with its mendacious leaders and form their own forum. Taiwan, which was a founding member of the UN until China had them kicked out, should be a founding member of the new organisation.
