EDS NOTE: IMAGE HAS BEEN DIGITALLY ALTERED BY THE ORIGINAL SOURCE TO REMOVE THE BACKGROUND - This image shows Anders Behring Breivik from a 1,500-page manifesto attributed to him that was discovered Saturday, July 23, 2011. Breivik is a suspect in a bombing in Oslo and a shooting on a nearby island which occurred on Friday, July 22, 2011. The document, which contained this and other photos, also described how to acquire explosives. (AP Photo/via Scanpix)
UPDATE: View the video Breivik is believed to have posted just before the attacks here.
OSLO, Norway (AP) — The man blamed for attacks on Norway’s government headquarters and a youth retreat that left at least 92 dead said he was motivated by a desire to bring about a revolution in Norwegian society, his lawyer said Sunday. A manifesto that he is believed to have written ranted against Muslim immigration to Europe and vowed revenge on “indigenous Europeans” who he accused of betraying their heritage.
Although the lawyer for the 32-year-old Norwegian suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, said his client acted alone, police conducted raids on a garage and sheds in an industrial neighborhood of eastern Oslo, said police officer Kjell Bjerklund.
Survivors of the mass shooting on Utoya island that killed at least 85 young people reported seeing two assailants, and police have said they were looking into those accounts and had not ruled out a second suspect. Another seven people were killed in Friday’s bombing in an Oslo government building.
In all, 93 people were killed and 96 wounded. There are still people missing at both scenes. Six hearses pulled up at the shore of the lake surrounding the island on Sunday, as rescuers on boats continued to search for bodies in the water. Body parts remain inside the Oslo building, which housed the prime minister’s office.
A manifesto published online – which police are poring over and said was posted the day of the attack – ranted that the European elite, “multiculturalists” and “enablers of Islamization” would be punished for their “treasonous acts.” Police have not confirmed that Breivik wrote the document, but his lawyer referred to it and said Breivik had been working on it for years.
The treatise ends with a detailed description of the plot, ending with a note dated 12:51 p.m. on July 22: “I believe this will be my last entry.”
Police and his lawyer have said that Breivik confessed to the twin attacks, but denied criminal responsibility for a day that shook peaceful Norway to its core and was the deadliest ever in peacetime. He has been charged with terrorism and will be arraigned on Monday.
Police Chief Sveinung Sponheim said a forensics expert from Interpol would join the investigation on Sunday. Other offers of international assistance have been turned down.
Norway’s King Harald V and his wife Queen Sonja and Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg joined mourners on Sunday at Oslo Cathedral, where the pews were packed, and the crowd spilled into the plaza outside the building. The area was strewn with flowers and candles, and people who could not fit in the grand church huddled under umbrellas in a drizzle.
The king and queen both wiped tears from their eyes during the service for “sorrow and hope.”
After the service, people sobbed and hugged one another in the streets as they streamed out of the cathedral. Many lingered over the memorial of flowers and candles.
More was coming to light Sunday about the man who police say confessed to a car bomb at government headquarters in Oslo and then, hours later, opening fire on young people at an island political retreat. Both targets were linked to Norway’s left-leaning Labor Party, and authorities have said Breivik held anti-Muslim views and posted on Christian fundamentalist websites.
“He wanted a change in society and, from his perspective, he needed to force through a revolution,” Geir Lippestad, his lawyer, told public broadcaster NRK. “He wished to attack society and the structure of society.”
Lippestad said Breivik spent years writing the 1,500-page manifesto entitled, “2083 – A European Declaration of Independence,” that police were examining. It was signed “Andrew Berwick.” The date was referred to later in the document as the year that coups d’etat would engulf Europe and overthrow the elite he maligns.
Sponheim, the police chief, said there was no indication whether Breivik had selected his targets or fired randomly on the island. The manifesto vowed revenge on those who it accused of betraying Europe.
“We, the free indigenous peoples of Europe, hereby declare a pre-emptive war on all cultural Marxist/multiculturalist elites of Western Europe. … We know who you are, where you live and we are coming for you,” the document said. “We are in the process of flagging every single multculturalist traitor in Western Europe. You will be punished for your treasonous acts against Europe and Europeans.”
The use of an anglicized pseudonym could be explained by a passage in the manifesto describing the founding, in April 2002 in London, of a group he calls a new Knights Templar. The Knights Templar was a medieval order founded to protect Christian pilgrims in the Holy Land after the First Crusade.
A 12-minute video clip posted on YouTube with the same title as the manifesto featured symbolic imagery of the Knights Templar and crusader kings as well as slides suggesting Europe is being overrun by Muslims. Police could not confirm that Breivik had posted the video, which also featured photographs of him dressed in a formal military uniform and in a wet suit pointing an assault rifle.
The video was a series of slides that accused the left in Europe of allowing Muslims to overrun the continent: One image showed the BBC’s logo with the “C” changed into an Islamic crescent. Another declared that the end result of the left’s actions would be an “EUSSR.”
Police spokesman John Fredriksen confirmed that the essay was posted the day of the attacks. The document signaled an attack was imminent: “In order to successfully penetrate the cultural Marxist/multiculturalist media censorship, we are forced to employ significantly more brutal and breathtaking operations, which will result in casualties.”
In the last 100 pages, the manifesto apparently lays out details of the author’s social and personal life, including steroid use and an intention to solicit prostitutes in the days before the attack.
Witnesses at the island youth retreat described the way Breivik lured them close by saying he was a police officer before raising his weapons. People hid and fled into the water to escape the rampage; some played dead.
While some on the island reported that there was a second assailant and police said they were looking into that, Lippestad, the lawyer, said his client claims to have acted alone.
Police took 90 minutes from the first shot to reach the island – delayed because they did not have quick access to a helicopter and struggled to find a boat once they reached the lake. Breivik surrendered when they reached him, but before 85 people died. Another seven were killed in the bombing.
Divers continued to comb the lake waters around Utoya Island where some 600 young people were attending a Labor Party summer retreat when it came under attack, amid fears people may have drowned while trying to swim to safety.
Police said the bomb used in the Oslo blast was a mixture of fertilizer and fuel used to blow up a federal building in the U.S. in 1995. A farm supply store said Saturday they had alerted police that Breivik bought six metric tons of fertilizer, which can be used in homemade bombs.
The twin attacks have rattled largely peaceful Norway, home to the Nobel Prize for Peace and where the average policeman patrolling in the streets doesn’t carry a firearm.
Norwegians pride themselves on the openness of their society and cherish the idea of free expression. In recent years, the prosperous Nordic nation has opened its arms to thousands of conflict refugees from Pakistan, Iraq and Somalia.

The impact of what this EVIL person believed, will be enormous IMHO. I fear the left just got the event they needed to unload on “right wing Teabaggers”, NRA members, anti-mosque building types, etc. in this country. I doubt it, but it would not be unjustified, considering the current high danger levels from right wing extremists in the US. That these threats are rising has been identified by the FBI in several reports. The level of hatred directed at minorities, gays, the President of the United States, people of oither religions, etc. on this site is astounding. No one wants to see more Hutaree type groups spawning, let alone another Oklahoma city.

No question there are other factions. And prior to the second half of the 90′s left-wing groups (extreme environmentalist and anarchist groups, especially) were considered a major threat. These have declined significantly. However, the homegrown right wing extremists are the biggest threat today, according to the FBI.

Okay, let‘s say you’re right in this case. Then, where is the “terror” from the right in this country??? If you’re having trouble coming up with answers, it’s probably because the answer is that there are no examples of this whatsoever.

Posted on July 25, 2011 at 9:50pmI’m not sure the government will monitor this website any more than it does already, given that the threat of right wing “lone wolves” like Timothy McVeigh, Byron William who planned mass murder at the Tides foundation, an organization demonized by the right. Of course there was the Holocaust Museum murderer, the Neo Nazis, the opposition to “foreigners” of all kinds, the Ku Klux Klan, abortion clinic bombers and the abortion doctor murderers. And of course there’s this Norwegian guy, who is the tip of the iceberg. With the rise of right wing extremism, these groups present a threat to innocent citizens of this country at least as great as extremists from other countries if not more. There were four mass murders in the country just last weekend.
People who post here should be reassured by the fact that the government already knows who you are and where you live. That’s easy enough for even a miscreant hacker to find out. If the government was going to put you in a FEMA camp, they probably already would have. Unless they’re just waiting to lure you into a false sense of security and then move on all of you at once.

And why, if he’s some sort of fanatical neo-nazi, would he leave traces of himself all over the internet with his FULL name? That just doesn’t add up. Its like this info is way too public to be believable.
How did he gain his expertise in bomb-making, if he did indeed act alone? Why would his lawyer tell everyone he acted alone?
Why did “Assistants of the Global Jihad” report on a closed, restricted jihadi forum in arabic about the successful attack? This wasn’t public bragging for the same of stealing thunder, this was a private announcement to fellow jihadis.
Wouldn’t this be the perfect cover for an islamic terrorist attack? Plant a white man with a fake bio as the attacker, so you do maximum damage while destroying the ability of opponents of Islamization to speak out against Islam.

Obviously NO ONE sane thinks his murders were acceptable. In his mind the killing of the youths at the multi-culti labour party camp was his way of ending their brain trust. He wanted to stop the spread of Islam so he thought he’d kill the future progressive liberal leadership of Norway. They were the children of the politicians who pushed the destructive policies that he thought was destroying is country. Those youths were being indoctrinated to further the multi-cultural agenda. Watch his manifesto. His murders were wrong, abhorrent and horrible. His message-to end the spread of Islam and the evils of multi-culturalism is valid. Watch the video. It should be a wake up call. Posted on July 25, 2011 at 3:45amPeople who are just plain insane and think the whole world is out to get them carry out acts of random violence. They have no goal, only death and destruction. I would characterize these attacks, at least partially, as such. The bombing of the prime minister’s offices was specifically targeted. But the shooting was random. Then again, it wasn’t just a shooting. There were also unexploded bombs found on the island.
In cases where the attacker is motivated by overwhelming hate and bigotry, the targets of their violent attacks are also the very same targets of their hatred. Violent white supremacists bomb black churches. Violent anti-semites bomb synagogues.
What strikes me is that, if this guy really is such a “violent right wing extremist bigot”, then why do his comments seem so level-headed, and why did he not attack a mosque or a muslim cultural center?
And how did this guy become an expert bomb-maker? You don’t just learn how to build devastatingly powerful bombs, AND build them correctly, as a novice; a beginner. His bomb tore the face off the prime minister’s offices. And it was obviously remote-detonated. How did he detonate it? Probably with a cellphone. Everything about these attacks says “jihadi M.O.” So why do I feel like I’m being fed a pile of s*** with this whole “right-wing extremist” story?

Of course all children are innocent, but if you analyze this act from ‘the mind of a lunatic’ it sort of makes sense in an insane way.
From the article:
“…a car bomb at government headquarters in Oslo and then, hours later, opening fire on young people at an island [POLITICAL RETREAT] . Both targets were linked to Norway’s [LEFT-LEANING LABOR PARTY] , and authorities have said Breivik held anti-Muslim views..” This political retreat was for the children of the leftist’s labor party.
This was an act of revenge to hurt the left-leaning elitists by attacking their children and their office building. This was not an act of random violence, but a calculated terrorist attack by a deranged individual. It is horrific and inexcusable. There is a special place in hell for this man. …rf

War has been brewing for quite some time in Europe. The liberal governments are letting millions of Muslims pour in, and Europeans are paying a huge price for it. Eventually, the Europeans have to fight back or their won’t be any of Europe left.
Now answer one question for me: Name just one… please, just one… Muslim-majority country in the world that welcomes non-Muslims with open arms, where non-Muslims aren’t slaughtered on a daily basis. Come one… name one country. Oh, wait you can‘t name one because one doesn’t exist. Islam is the tool of Satan and they get the upper-hand in any country it’s lights out for the non-Muslims. While his terrorist acts were absolutely inexcusable and horrific his writings on the topic of Islam and the need to save Norway (and the West) from Islam are deeply in need of being discussed across our entire civilization. So while Islam has spread more and more and more and more SINCE 9/11, with the insane West bending over backwards to not offend Islam, to make concessions to Islam, to deny what Islam really is, to try really super duper extra hard to UNDERSTAND why WE DID WRONG to DESERVE 9/11, etc., since after all, the innocent peaceful Muslims (and so-called Palestinians) ONLY engage in terror acts because they have no other way to get their point across, because the evil vile West has stomped on them and made them feel disrespected, blah blah blah, perhaps a similar treatment of this terrorist’s views will at least get them out and discussed. All of the letters to the editor, all of the books, all of the blogs, haven’t really had much effect to this point in getting the West to acknowledge the existential threat from Islam.

Breivik’s act resembles those of Al-Qaida in its immediate intent, which is to dismay, disrupt and force wrenching change on a society, but in this case, his own, not a foreign one.
So far as we can tell yet, he belongs to no group,
He could as easily have been an left-wing terrorist of some sort, striking at the government on behalf of the “working class,” like the anarchists of a century ago, or a radical libertarian and gun freak, which is what McVeigh basically was, or a religious nut trying to bring on Armageddon.
Instead, he was apparently a cultural/racial/religious nationalist, trying to shock his country back into the essence of its Norwegianness, or whatever.
But I’m inclined to think that whatever cobbled-up ideology he may have advanced, in the end this was not supposed to be about his cause, but about him.
He could easily have committed suicide, or forced the police to shoot him, but he chose to surrender, which probably means he has lots more to say and means to say it as loudly and publicly as he can.
That way he remains the center of attention for a good long time, which is probably what he wants above all.

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 10:02amActually, because he did write out in great detail a very good explanation of the very real problem confronting the West with regard to Islam, his commentary can hardly be characterized as a rant. And, since he did chose to attack the political left rather than Muslims, he is forcing the left to choose sides. If he had just attacked Muslims, in the same way Muslims attack others, then the left would have been able to remain aloof and above it all, in their delusional way, believing that those crazy right wings and those crazy so-called radical Muslims are just fighting among themselves. But in reality, the political left need to fact the reality that it is they and their society that are at risk, first from Islam, but ultimately also from the so-called extremist right who will fight rather than just accept the extinquishment of their countries and civilization. His choice of target may have been very carefully thought out with this sort of rationale, to force the left to choose sides, are they with Islam or are they with their own civilization. To this point the left has steadfastly refused to even acknowledge that there is a fight, or even any issue at all with importing millions upon millions of followers of a religion who SOLE PURPOSE is the destruction of man-made governments and laws and the replacement of them with sharia.

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 11:57amThat’s a very well reasoned post. I’ll just be candid in the best way I know how. Islam is evil. It’s backwards and its followers are some of the most ignorant gullible people on earth. That being said how can we expect them not to resist as much as possible against US hegemony in the region? We have literally had either boots on the ground or our very own puppets installed in the Middle East since the closing days of WW1! Not only that we have supported if not created and armed the Nation of Israel to the point where they are simply far superior to all of their neighbors in the ME with the exception of maybe Turkey.
I think for starters we should withdraw all troops from the area, cut off all foreign aid to all, and reform our immigration policies. We are basically at the point of setting aside our freaking Constitution in the name of “War on Terror!” It makes me sick to my stomach to know that our forefathers fought, bled and suffered so much to procure the freedoms and liberties that we have enjoyed the past several hundred years in this nation only to see them go up in smoke in the name of a facetious “War on Terror.”
I could go on and on because I believe we are being played by elite but step one is to get the hell out of the Middle East period! I do not believe Americans would be to happy if the Turks or Iranians began setting up bases in Mexico, Canada, or some part of the US so why do we expect them to feel any differently?

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 2:17pmIt is time to make some decisions. But mayhem is not the answer. One commenter mentions US hegemony in the ME. Try looking at the Ottoman Empire and the British control of the area. Note that the US did not play a major part in this area until after WWII. However, the US did push the creation and acceptance of the State of Israel. For this reason (among many others), we cannot abandon Israel in the face of all that is aligning against her. That is not the America I grew up to love. (But then, I attended schools when real History was taught) We don’t want a conflict, but we don’t run from one either. We must be willing to do what is right and stand with those who oppose evil. And if you think Israel is evil, you are on the wrong side of history.
Europe has to decide for itself – and now the issue is gaining attention in Norway. While we may want to give advice, we would not accept advice from Europe on how to deal with an open border with illegals, drug runners and terrorists pushing through at an alarming rate.
Report Post »Lloyd Drako
Posted on July 24, 2011 at 6:22pmACav76:
The US government really did little more than accept the creation of Israel in 1947-1948. In fact, had Truman not been president, it’s not at all certain that the USSR would not have recognized Israel first. A lot of people in the State Department reminded Truman that the Arabs were more numerous than the Jews, and had a lot of oil, and advised him not to do it. FDR might have listened to them, but not the man from Independence.
In 1956 Eisenhower took a firm stand against Israel (as well as Britain and France) over Suez. American support for Israel, both at the popular level and at the level of government policy, really dates from the later 1960s. The 1967 war was one reason for this, as was greater awareness of the Holocaust, first among American Jews themselves and then in the general population. Indeed, the very term “Holocaust” only acquired general currency then.
My point here is that US support for Israel arose more recently and may be less instinctive and deeply-rooted than we would like to think. At some point we need to remind ourselves that it’s not our country.

As it is I don‘t think it’s either accurate or precise; according to a 6/2/11 article by the EU Times there were 86 rape reports in Norway from 2005 to 2010, and for 83 of them the confirmed perpetrators were muslim. Even assuming each rape was committed by a different man, that’s hardly 0.07% of the Norwegian Muslim population. I‘m not suggesting that this statistic isn’t significant or worth mentioning, but it’s worthwhile to maintain some perspective through this all; it discredits jhn‘1’s position to blow numbers out of proportion.

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 9:51amThe weapon itself is a tricked out Ruger Mini-14 or Mini-30. Going by Norway’s gun laws I am leaning towards this being a PhotoShopped picture. If it is not, then he had access to a good deal of money and/or help to purchase it, the accessories and the conversion to full auto. I would say it is obvious that he was not working alone and may simply be a nutcase being used by a terrorist cell.

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 10:05amSo when muslims object to their govt selling them out and importing non-indiginous creatins into there lands they are lauded as freedom fighters. But, when a white guy does the exact same thing, he is a nutcase. Wow. Remember the palestinian psychos that cut that family up including the babies? Remember them? Total double standard BS.

He is a nutcase. A loser looking for a cause…like Loughner in Arizona. He could have just as easily been recruited by the Anti-Mickey Mouse organization and brainwashed with flattery, ideology of a Donald Duck only world and he would have fallen for it in a heartbeat…simply out of a need to “belong” and having something important in his life.
In that sense, he is no different than the young suicide bombers used by Islamists. Mis-fits of siciety or SOOOOOOOO easy to manipulate. The kids of today have no great adventures, no great causes, no great hardships …so they sit around bored and welcome any diversion to make them feel special or alive.
I guarantee you…I could step onto any highschool campus in the guise of a janitor and within 30 days I would have a dozen hardcore militants at my beck and call…enthralled with the idea of living out a real life movie plot and fighting back against whatever enemy I steer them towards.
That is why socialism and communism are so prevalent and dangerous in our country right now. The sea of dis-illusioned, bored, athiestic youth wandering around in a daze can be rallied together by an charismatic man/woman/group so easily…setting a match to the powderkeg of our basic ideals and beliefs so beautifully worded in our constitution, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights.
They are mindless, worker bees…waiting for their orders.

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 9:08amThis was bound to happen sooner or later. Muslims can’t expect to the the ONLY terrorists around. Our planet is a powder keg.

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 9:16amIt’s been happening for far longer than you apparently think. Of course many Muslims are terrorists, but they don’t even comprise the majority.

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 9:40amSemidisk; The difference is we openly say terrorism is not the answer in large numbers. When Muslims kill, I see them cheering?
Report Post »semidisk
Posted on July 24, 2011 at 4:42pmThat is irrelevant to muslims being the only terrorists; such a statement is plainly untrue. I don’t care about whatever colloquial inferences you can draw from my post.

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 6:14pmIt’s easy to say terrorrism is not the answer when you have drones,[and a strong hightly technologically advanced miliary ] you have not been invaded and occupied, no one has forced you out of the home you own to give it to a newly arrived foreigner because they claim God gave them the right to your home, etc. And terrorism is a term used to dehumanize the resistence fighters[ our military has always deliberatly targeted civilians when deemed in our interests-whether to win a battle or win a war].more self serving hubris, self inflated lies and hypocrisy!.[part of the anti muslim campaign to dehumanize the enemy[they are evil unlike all other enemies] standard propaganda to inflame the people against your genocidal targts[it worked on this right wing anti-semite-against muslims this time].But his hatred of them seeped out the “wrong” way from what you anti muslim genocidists and the right wing media would want!

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 9:08amThere was another report that said the PM was just there in support of the Muslims. I guess it’s guilt by association? And it was a labor youth camp. I know that doesn’t justify killing children, but I guess in his mind it did.

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 9:22amHeavyduty, You misread the article. The revenge is not on the Muslims. It is on the Marxists/Socialists who have betrayed indigenous Europeans by allowing Muslims culture to overrun European culture. That Camp for teenagers is a training camp for Socialist indoctrination. That wasn’t some paradise camp for kids. I suspect that this will not be the last attack on Socialists and their misdeeds.

Posted on July 24, 2011 at 3:26pmAnd that raises the question, can Muslims be Norwegians? Or any other Western nationality? To the extent that their religion denies the rights and philosophies that are a core integral part of Western civilization and our countries, Muslims are in the awkward place of being Muslims living in Norway, or Muslims living in Britain, but never really “being” Norwegian. Also, how does race play into this? When people of all different races immigrate to Britain or Norway of Spain, do they someone really “become” British or Norwegian?
