‘Not Fair to Be White’: See the Unbelievable New Campaign Sponsored by the University of Minnesota-Duluth

Here’s a pop quiz: What do we usually call unsubstantiated assumptions about someone’s class, or position in life, based upon the color of their skin?

That’s right, racism. And that appears to be what Campus Reform has uncovered at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, which is sponsoring an ad campaign whose core message is very difficult to distinguish from undiluted racism. Watch the ad below if you don’t believe us, and if that doesn’t convince you, keep reading:

Here is what Campus Reform has to say about the ad campaign:

The University of Minnesota – Duluth (UMD) is now sponsoring an ad-campaign designed to achieve “racial justice” by raising awareness of “white privilege.”

The project disseminates its message, that “society was setup for us [whites]“ and as such is ”unfair,” through an aggressive campaign of online videos, billboards, and lectures. The ads feature a number of Caucasians confessing their guilt for the supposed “privilege” that comes along with their fair features.[...]

“You give me better jobs, better pay, better treatment, and a better chance – all because of the color of my skin,” reads one poster that features a close shot of a Caucasian male.

The Un-Fair campaign also held a series of lectures and events on campus last semester. One included a presentation by Tim Wise, author of Dear White America. In his book, Wise confesses a “longstanding fantasy” where he turns to a man with a “God Bless the USA” button and asks him, “why can’t you just get over it?”

These lectures were publicly endorsed by university Chancellor Lendley Black. Black sent a message to the campus community in April describing his effort to “create an inclusive campus climate for all” through providing “support and… leadership to the Un-Fair Campaign.”

For those who are familiar with the work of Tim Wise, this should come as no surprise. Wise is one of the more infamous “anti-racist” activists alive, and is especially notable for having written a “Letter to the White Right” after the 2010 elections which includes quotes which dance dangerously close to an open desire for genocide. Consider the following, with special attention to the quotes in bold:

For all y’all rich folks, enjoy that champagne, or whatever fancy ass Scotch you drink.

And for y’all a bit lower on the economic scale, enjoy your Pabst Blue Ribbon, …

Whatever the case, and whatever your economic station, know this . . .

You need to drink up.

And quickly.

And heavily.

Because your time is limited.[...]

And in the pantheon of American history, old white people have pretty much always been the bad guys, the keepers of the hegemonic and reactionary flame, the folks unwilling to share the category of American with others on equal terms.

Fine, keep it up. It doesn’t matter.

Because you’re on the endangered list.

And unlike, say, the bald eagle or some exotic species of muskrat, you are not worth saving.

Wise has also accused the Founders of deliberately setting up a white supremacist society on CNN. Ironically, Wise is himself white.

But even if one of the campaign’s speakers is crazy, some might be saying, that doesn’t mean the entire campaign is racist, right? Wrong. The evidence shows that this pervasive effort to tar hundreds of millions of people with the racist brush is an integral part of the Un-Fair campaign. As for the campaign’s slogan, “it‘s hard to see racism when you’re white,” the irony is almost too deafening to remark upon it at all. We certainly are not prepared to make such a harsh generalization about a race of people, but it does seem fair to say that, if this organization is considered to be representative of the white population, this slogan might have a point. Unfortunately, we don’t think self-hatred is the kind of racism they mean.

Worse yet is the fact that the idea of “white privilege” is as easily disproved as any other ugly racial stereotype. For instance, unless this campaign wants to argue with a straight face that a coal miner in West Virginia is more privileged than Colin Powell (in which case, they’d be laughed out of most reasonable company), their generalization completely falls apart. More to the point, using the term “white privilege” and slogans like “it‘s hard to see racism when you’re white” is a transparent and logically fallacious attempt to shut people up. The claim that whites who don’t agree with this stereotype are automatically trying to perpetuate racism completes the exercise in bullying that this campaign is.

A few weeks ago, the Blaze reported on the disgustingly racist attitudes of a resident of South Buffalo, who argued in full view of a camera that “blacks ruin neighborhoods.” This absurd stereotype was rightfully condemned. Yet now the University of Minnesota Duluth is lending institutional support to a campaign whose message is essentially “whites ruined the world and are trying to keep it ruined so that they can profit.” Granted, this isn’t particularly surprising, coming from a university whose very administrators consider the Constitution to be a symbol of “white privilege,” but it is still wrong.

Clearly, the Un-Fair campaign is aptly named.

    Since obama got on the throne, all that has been done in this country was to segregate the white from the black, To divide the races, for political standing. obama was suppose to be the big Uniter of all peoples in this country, the great black hope. Instead he and his party has set race relations back more than 100 years. MLK wanted all people to get along, where blacks, and whites would walk hand in hand one day…..that is not obama’s dream. It is the eradication of the white race. I thought that was far fetched, but more and more it looks like the case.

      moochele’s thesis was how blacks were treated differently in college, or that they came out of “white” colleges less likely to “help” black people. Moochele is a separatist. They both are. I‘d like to separate O’s white half from his black half…..just sayin.

      The whole idea about White Privilege means that whites, no matter how incompetent they are would always have the upper hand in getting any job, that no demonstrable skills would be necessary. But exactly the opposite has happened with Affirmative Action (White Guilt). The low expectations for blacks has done them a grave disservice and we see the disastrous fruits of good intentions in our first Affirmative Action president. We see the disasters of black-run, inner city schools, and black-run cities, where incompetence and criminal behavior rules every level.
      For ***** and giggles, we have, on permanent display, Al “Resist We Much” Sharpton, the one token black without any actual journalistic skills on MSNBC.

      This college should have its educational license pulled along with all government funds. There literally 3 poor whites for every one poor black in America. Those whites are 50% less likely to qualify for the same welfare that the black recieve. Whites represent 60% of the population Blacks 18% Whites get 45% of all the welfare government offers Blacks 32% of all welfare offered. And in areas like section 8 housing Blacks get around 73% and 90% in some cities. And even though Blacks make up only 18% of the populations they represent 45% of all federal workers,and 65% of the prison population. Blacks as whole are largest burden of society by race.
      And as for the whole society is afraid of blacks that‘s BS black especially youth idolize and mimic criminals if people respond to the ways black dress and behave it’s because people will always know if it looks like a duck acts like a duck it’s 99% likely to be a duck. Then theres the whole black culture of violence,and crime. Blacks rob rape and steal at a rate that’s 5 times higher than any other race.

      To put it bluntly Whites aren’t born entitled but most are born productive with a capacity to learn. It’s tevolution not entitlement. Being that whites and blacks are offered the same educational opportunities and the end results couldn’t be more contrast…It speaks volumes.

      You simply can’t fix STUPID. When the change takes place and it will someday in the future these types of people will be rounded up and relocated in an area of the US (most likely Boston Mass) and made to fend for themselves. They will not know how to do the simplest things – the basics BECAUSE THEY LIVED OFF THE TIT OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. We pay for these people’s education at the most liberal schools, educated by people who are anti-America, ant-white bigots and then we give them a platform to speak! Why? Why are we doing this?       I checked you numbers and there is one number that is incorrect. The number of blacks in U.S. is not 18%, only 12.6%. Here is a link from latest census, http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.htm
      Most blacks are supported by the tax payer, by one form or another, welfare or prison, etc… EVERYONE knows this, but nothing ever changes. The handouts are endless for them. I have no white guilt, I have never discriminated against one Black person in my life. But I have been discriminated against because of my white skin. When I see a black person in a good job, I think “who gave them that job”, because most did not earn the position. When is the black community going to get some self respect and start working for what they get?

      This is another level of appeasement brought forth by liberals out there that just want to pander. If anything being white nowadays is a curse brought on from lending institutions to the education system that caters and pushes through unprepared minorities while white kids are not afforded that dishonesty (thank God) so they can receive increased budgets from the state to continuously declare themselves as “exemplary”. I was also not approved for a student loan with the same exact credentials and income levels as others who just happened to not be white. So in essence, affirmative action has hurt everyone as a forced leveling of the playing field has distorted the truth and given all a blurred vision of opportunity. White people are denied because they are white and minorities are approved because they are not white plain and simple. Lay out the rules that applies to everybody to succeed and don’t bend them to avoid the impropriety given by activist groups. People must understand rules and abide by them and realize they get no special treatment because no one is special. We have essentially no leadership in this country anymore as we have administrators out there that can’t handle pissed off, ignorant people and stand their ground.

      First of all, identifying the social-historical phenomenon “White Privilege” is not racism. The article itself starts out with a reasonable definition of “racism,“ but it fails to note the obvious point that ”White Privilege” does not make assumptions about people based on their race. Can anyone deny that in the United States, white people have historically enjoyed a higher social and economic status due to inequalities in law and prevailing cultural prejudices? Is it possible in any way to dispute this claim?

      Those historical disparities still affect us. Formal legal segregation on a large scale only ended two generations ago. Is anyone arguing that the culture of prejudice and racism simply disappeared when Jim Crow was abolished?

      It’s quite pathetic to see this kind of cry-baby victim stuff from you Blazers. Boo hoo! Someone said white people owned slaves and enforced a system of segregation and that we are still living with the consequences of those institutions! Waaaaahh!

      Hey, guess what–the fact that African tribes sold slaves does not diminish the severity of the crimes of American slavery. The childish “I know you are but what am I” dodge has no place in this conversation.

      I‘m lucky I’m a “white” Christian because:
      - I’m persecuted and God blesses that.
      - I’m hated for no reason and God blesses that.
      - I have been blessed to Bless others and God blesses that.
      - I pray, protect and help others and God blesses that.

      One last thing, I did not realize I was white until liberalism/progressivism told me I was. However, I am not white, I am a follower of Christ. There really are only two groups in the world… Good and evil., uniters and dividers. It’s very easy to see which group these people are from.

      No doubt that many ethnic minorities have faced discrimination in the United States, but, with the possible exception of women in some situation, can you find with any of these groups the kind of dramatic disparities in economic and social status that continue to plague the African American community? Are you arguing that discrimination against the Irish, Polish, Italians and other minority groups later deemed “white” was ever encoded into the law to the extent that racist beliefs against blacks were? This would be a pretty difficult argument to make?

      To suggest that continued discrimination against blacks isn’t a problem because there was once widespread distrust of the Irish is completely silly. It just doesn’t follow logically.

      No one is asking you to feel shame–that’s your own personal problem. White privilege exists, and you can either whine and be defensive about it, or you can recognize it and work towards a more truly equal society.

      I am a “brown” woman married to a “white” guy living in a very white state. I do get stared at ( not just because I’m beautiful) and followed more by security in stores. But I realize that there are higher crime stats with people of color. Profiling is a normal part of life. We learn through experiences and through what we learn. Good example is what is being done with children‘s sports where they don’t keep score so no one is hurt. The children keep score in their minds. We can‘t pretend that the crime stats don’t exist. I am a professional and wish I could always be seen for me ( the individual) and not for the “group” that I get lumped in. Oh, well. Anyone that looks different in any way will get stares. Obama has made things worse because he’s given more freebies for votes. This has increased the resentment against the recipients of most of the services. All by design since they are hoping for race wars… Socialism, Marxism and Communism are so old and predictable. But I never realized how many whites were on welfare till we moved to this very white state. This nanny state has about 1/3 of the people on welfare (whites) , and still fighting against businesses and lower taxes. We need to eliminate quotas, handouts, and abortions and let this country thrive with the spirit of brotherly love and entrepreneurship. Welfare is racist. I pray God continues to bless this country.

      LOL…“economic disparities” PENCILNECK? I see..so when you’re born..you must be born on a level playing field economically?
      In your lefty world, kids cannot be born to poor families, middle class families or wealthy families because their families worked hard and had that smarts (or not) to get them in those positions. We must all be born with a bank account of the same value and if it falters during our lifetimes, someone else has to give something up so that we don’t have “economic disparities”. Is that it?
      You know what PENCILNECK? Some people just wont’ be successful, they‘re too stupid or too lazy or just don’t know how to get there. And that’s ok.
      Why do you think universities are full of indian and asian kids? Maybe because their parents work like dogs to get somewhere and have the means to put their kids through college? Their cultures emphasize education and success..ironically..something your “white guilt” has succeeded in diminishing among white children. It’s a cultural problem PENCILNECK..not an “economic disparities” problem. Do you think these asian and indian families come where with huge bank accounts? You’re deluding yourself if you think that.       Mil dot if you wouold bother to investigate you would find out how right my numbers are …Of course those numbers aren’t up to date for instance the welfare numbers are from 09,the prison numbers are 07,the federal work force numbers are 2010, but those are the numbers. The graduate who does well in college, who sees those less qualified get the job that should have been theirs all because they don’t have a dark enough skin tone. The worker who doesn’t get that promotion that they have worked so hard for yet some undeserving complete idiot does and we all know why ,to fill that quota.       All “white priviledge” means to me is that my little boys will have to keep a 4.0 GPA in order to compete for the same university admission as a minority female with a 2.5 and then still won’t be able to get a public sector job due to the color of their skin.

      I hate to tell them but the vast majority of White America does not care. They just want to go to work and provided for their family. When I was studying to take the MCAT there were 2 Hispanic sisters and and an African American in some of my classes. They were not taking it very seriously and I asked why not. One of them actually answered “doesn’t really matter, I am a female and minority, I am getting no matter what my score is.” She was right. She had a 2.9 GPA and scored poorly on her test. All 3 of them got in ahead of a friend of mine that had a 3.8 and did really well on his test. When he went for his interview he was told the school all ready had enough white males in the up coming class and they would make sure he was one of the first interviewed the following year. This was 25 years ago. In college I tutored head start for general and organic chemistry. It was a program that was free for minorities. White males were not allowed to come by.

      As an aside, have you ever watched the show “The first 48?” Watch it some time and see who is killing who over weed.

      Haha. All delightful arguments. But really, I’m not the one with a guilt or a shame problem. Why exactly is it that so many of you react so quickly by feeling your race is under attack and that it needs defending? Do you identify that strongly with your race? That’s funny, because I don’t identify strongly with a race–I identify myself as an American. As such, it would be incredibly ignorant not to acknowledge that in America the deck has historically been stacked against African Americans, and that hundreds of years of legal and cultural discrimination didn’t simply disappear overnight.

      As an American, acknowledging these inequalities (and acknowledging that as a white person, I have NOT suffered from these disadvantages) and working towards rectifying them is the only ethical thing to do.

      I, like many of you are so sick and tired of race being the subject of everything. I am a very conservative white CHRISTian male living in America. I am not afforded a single privelege. I work hard every day in the automotive industry. I like to think of myself as an intelligent man, but was never given the oppertunity to go to college because I couldn’t afford it. I was married at 21, and waited 2 years to have kids because I wanted to try to get a degree of some sort. Over the next 10 years we slowly put my wife through school. Now, I’m 13 years into my marriage, still working in the automotive industry, raising a family, and sending countless “minorities” to colleges that I would love to attend myself. I bought a house 8 years ago in a beautiful neighborhood. My home is now 30% of the value of my loan, as are all of the houses around me. I have never been late on one payment. Over the last 3 years or so, there have been numerous foreclosures. These foreclosures have been purchased and turned into section 8 housing. Day by day my neighborhood is deteriorating. My children can’t play outside because my 10 year old daughter is continually harassed by boys, and my 6 year old son is scared of cars driving 60mph down my street. If this is “WHITE PRIVELEGE”, yes…I am guilty of being “THE MAN”.
      I rest easy knowing that the war is already won, and one day I’ll be sitting at the feet of my Father in Paradise. I pray that all of you can find that joy an

      If you want to help people feel grateful for the blessings they have, why do you need to inject race into it?
      If you want to help people treat others equally, why do you have to try to make the group which has had more historical material success feel guilty for having succeeded.
      Free markets are not zero-sum games. Rising tides DO float all boats. When people are free to choose for themselves, and they choose success, it’s not prima facia on the backs of the poor, or any race.
      The problem with your thesis of “white privilege” is that it mistakes equality of result for equality of opportunity, then makes race and the history of race relations responsible for inequality of results.
      If you measured instead the freedom of opportunity enjoyed by all races in the US, you’d arrive at a much different conclusion.
      We owe to our founders the ideas that made possible the full racial freedom of opportunity that we now enjoy. Focusing on the opportunity also allows you to theorize failure much more powerfully. Instead of assuming it has something to do with an arbitrary skin color, you can talk about real causes and the effects they produce. Like when you:1. stay in school, 2. don‘t have a child until you’re out of high school, 3. don‘t have a child until you’re married, and 4. stick with even the lowest paying job you find, your behavior-your choices-produce a poverty rate of nearly zero. Freedom works for black AND white, with no privileges required.

      My sister and her husband lived in the worst parts of Flint Michigan. Had a kid at 17. They both worked hard and both went to school. Both got out of there and have a great life now. They didn’t beg ask for welfare they worked. Her kids all went to collage. They did this because they where a family unit.

      But you are obviously affected enough to keep on posting about it. If you were as indifferent as you pretend to be, you’d move on to more important things.

      So, why then do I keep coming back? Because I live in a town where whites are a minority and this topic saturates just about everything that happens here. I live in an area where I witness white people losing their identities and “acting black” in everything from their dress to their EOG scores. I am sickened by it.

      I am also sickened by the lack of initiative from the black people where I live. I know many of them. Some get past that stereotype and live happy, productive lives, but the vast majority – sadly – do not. This isn’t about any race demanding to be told how great they are, this is about EVERY race becoming great based upon merit and not skin color. What galls me is the constant apologies from whites for having done great things.

      Unfair to be white???? What part of life is fair? That is the most absurd ad campaign I have ever seen. It is giving low performer the excuse they need to under preform. How do you explain a black man in the highest position in the world? Did he look white when he was campaigning?
      The first white lady telling her story about swimming is not being honest. She is younger than I am and women could compete in HS in swimming, tennis, softball, cheer leading , gymnastics, and track. I grew up in a white community but certainly not privileged. We had no swim team because we could not afford swimming. We did not have lessons of any kind but spent out time on our own practicing. Father in law has an 8th grade education and was a low paid ironworker. My family worked hard and got an education in order to be successful.
      Quit the derisiveness.

      The OTHER minority populations, like most in the white population, are raised to NOT be dependent on society. They are not raised with someone like Al Sharpton, et al, telling them that they were “victims” and, instead of being helped UP from that percieved victimization, are taught that it pays to BE a victim. Many of these men, women, and children have no clue that they’re being held down, or if they do, they can‘t see that it’s not the White population doing it, but instead, themselves. It won’t be until the black population is shown by example, and brought up by example, and in many cases FORCED to do so, that they’ll finally see what is needed if you truly want to succeed instead of allowing yourself to be held down. We’ve seen some of those in the black population who have done so.

      For example,for several years my daughter witnessed a fellow student, black, who was excelling in school being beat down and bullied by his FELLOW BLACK students, using terms against him like “why you acting white”, etc. as well as physical attacks, because he was doing well in school. He was not the only black student treated like this by his fellow students, there were many more. He ended up addressing that treatment in his Valedictorian speech when he graduated.

      No matter what color a person is born, it is beyond their power. No one can change that. Nor can they choose to be other than what was given.
      MLK’s plan of walking together in this world is the proper way.
      The current admin. has supported separatist/eradication efforts.
      MLK would be ashamed of them as am I. This institution of ‘higher education’ should be ashamed not only of what they are supporting (separation/eradication of races) but more of what they are ‘teaching’.

      Again, if you feel shamed and chastened, then I‘m afraid that’s your problem. Does it insult you personally when people mention that white people in America owned slaves? They did. Did you personally create the problem? No. Is the problem going to fix itself if you just ignore it? No.

      Look folks–the fundamental difference between the conservative view of race and the liberal view of race is that conservatives seem to believe that racism has gone away and that we must all be color-blind now. The liberal view is that, as I have said multiple times, the social and economic consequences of hundreds of years of racial oppression remain in society and that color-blind approaches allow these disparities to continue by ignoring them. Simple as that.

      What most of you don’t understand (or refuse to understand) is that by recognizing the HISTORICAL reality of race (which for a long time was officially recognized in the laws of this country), the liberal view is not positing that race is an essential quality of an individual. The term “White Privilege” refers to “White” as a historical social and legal category. It certainly isn’t the fault of any of you if you happen to fall into that category, but it is just silly to deny that this category remains privileged in our society, if perhaps often only in very subtle ways.

      You make a good point about cultural pressures in some black communities to not “act white,” but clearly this attitude comes from somewhere–it‘s not that black people don’t like success. Remember, it has only been about two generations since it was literally encoded in American law in many places that black people had to remain separate from whites and “know their place.” Whiteness itself became associated with success, and cultural attitudes are passed down from parents to children. This does not excuse those kinds of behavior, but we cannot be ignorant and deny that it is part of a larger history of racial strife in this country.

      It is great that this person graduated valedictorian, but cultures change very slowly. Refusing to acknowledge the roots of these cultural problems does nothing to solve them, and can only make them worse.

      @ publius…..I agree with the content of your statement that there still remains a disparity between white and black society. Some definitely institutional and some unfortunately cultural due to some of the pervasive attitudes that exist. I think fatherless homes is one of the biggest issues within the black community as this one stat is the greatest predictor of poverty in all races. I have some very very dear friends that are black and I have known for years. Very sweet and kindhearted and I have seen 1st hand some of the discrimination they face. I would stand shoulder to shoulder with them against such actions and attitudes. I’m just not sure this college program is approaching it in the right way because it could be said that it could then produce a reverse attitude toward white people that would be counter productive to the stated goal. We need healing forgiveness and compassion. Not more blaming and finger pointing. Just my thoughts.

Did it involve being shoved into a failing public school as terrible as the neighborhood because your home city neglected it for years and did not invest resources into “colored” schools? Did it involve your parents placing little value in your education because they themselves were taught growing up that they have no right to be success like whites? Did it involve having a higher chance of being refused a loan for education or to start a business because of the color of your skin?

      You have no idea how much I enjoy your posts. I usually don’t reply because I’m so humbled that words can’t express my gratefulness. In this case, however, I’ll make an exception.

      I grew up in the backyard of George Washington. There were no black people in my schools until High School and then there were only 3; two males and one female. I ran track with the two males and never thought of them as any different except that I was faster. But, I ran faster than anyone else and never put color into my perspective of people.

      I left the Pentagon for a job in DC about 1977 and my supervisor was a black man. He was the most dignified and respectful man I have ever know. He saw my talent and got me positions doing work for the White House, DEA, the Smithsonian Institute and various other Government and civilian agencies.
      I’ll never forget that kind, dignified, respectful and wonderful person. I’ve never been prejudiced or prejudged people due to what color they are.

      Today, however, I’m incensed and infuriated at the progressive mandates for racial prejudice. It seems that they are so hell-bent on causing tensions based on color at any consequence.

      You are so correct. All Obama has done, is to put more discord into the different races than anyone else has done before him( except the KKK). The fact that these ( I assume they are all college kids, that in itself explains a lot) kids are being used to make even more of this race retoric is so blatently racist itself! My ancestors came here from England, Scotland, Germany, Ireland in 1725.My family have fought in the Revolutionary War. The War of 1812, the Civil War (both sides), WWI, WWII, Koren, Viet Nam, The Iraq, Afghanistan Wars, and I am supposed to be ashamed that I am “white”? By all that is holy I will not! How many of these snot nosed kids can say that? They really piss me off. I have dear friends of all colors, and ethnicities, and they would just be horrified by this kind of shameless self entitled garbage as I am.. What a bunch of losers! I am just as proud of my different nationalities as anyone else, and I will never be ashamed of them. also my white family is so privilaged that they actually have to work 2 or 3 jobs to pay for their college classes. They even have 4.0 avg. But you don’t see them whining and complaning that “gee, we are white so we should just be grateful we can go to college, and have to pay, cause we are white and don’t get those grants or loans, or scollarships, we just have to take it and smile” or wait, we are white so lets go hide somewhere.       You keep insisting it’s still bad, it’s still bad, but you still haven’t engaged the one idea that can break you out of it, and it’s skewing all your examples.
      It seems you have a hard time accepting the very existence of a Tiger Woods, a Herman Cain, a Condoleeza Rice, a Bill Cosby, a Colin Powell, etc. etc. etc.
      Your view of America crumbles to pieces when you’re forced to look at positive examples, instead of dealing exclusively with averages (which ARE less favorable by race, but can’t be explained by race), and cherry-picked anecdotes. Besides the fact that motivation by guilt has never been a very convincing way to change behavior, you stubbornly refuse to note that if the averages you cite are lower for poverty or higher for prison rates, it is fully explained and predicted by behavior, while your race theory can’t explain my example people. Therefore my theory wins.
      When you choose to act responsibly and use your freedom for good, for productivity, for serving others, you get paid! America is such a wonderful place of equal opportunity that nearly none of us fail to rise in class throughout our lifetimes.
      In any case, you have offered zero solutions to all your insistent complaints. I maintain the solution is already in place-it’s what banished slavery, it’s what produces success for all races-it’s freedom and limited govt.

      You seem a bit confused. There are roughly 8.8 million African Americans, and you are suggesting that the five examples you mention disprove my “race theory” (whatever you mean by that). You miss the point by a wide margin–there are certainly not every African American in this country is held down in poverty. Of course some are very successful (including our President), but that does not mean that there are not many still unfairly subject to the legacies of racism. While I admire your optimism, I encourage you to take a statistics class sometime.

      Limited government did not end slavery. Limited government was the cry of slaveholders who wanted to ensure that the government would not take away their property. Similarly, limited government did not end segregation–many places in this country had to be forcibly desegregated, and many still are divided by race.

      My theory is that it has nothing to do with race, but with behavior. It explains the failures AND the success of both black AND white (and any other race you care to identify), without requiring any massive leaps of faith in an arbitrary logic , therefore it’s a more powerful theory (Just what IS it about skin color that makes people automatically more or less successful? A downright metaphysical question if you believe it’s worth pursuing. I think it’s a waste of time, you don’t so your burden of explanation).
      On history: the idea of liberty, of all men created equal, of equal rights did not begin in the 1960s. Without lmtd govt, govt becomes tyranny. Jim Crow and segregationist states were tyrannical already and were ABUSING the cry of lmtd govt, even though in practice they were trying to EXPAND govt to control what it shouldn’t. The true idea of freedom had to be fought for even in the 60s, but couldn’t have come about without the prep of the ideas of Washington, Jefferson, Madison, etc.

      Sorry pal, but again you are confused. It was exactly the suppression of the majority that I am concerned about. I never pretended to have a theory that accounts for the entirely of 8.8 million African Americans. I don’t need to “account” for these individuals, because it is ludicrous to think that any socioeconomic theory would have absolutely no exceptions. You seem to be be confusing a social theory with a mechanical one that necessarily predicts that same outcome 100% of the time.

      What you don’t seem to understand is that my argument is entirely based on behavior (I’m not sure at all how you missed that point). The difference is that your “theory” is that African Americans exist in this kind of vacuum in which each individual’s behavior is the only factor that contributes to success of failure. Doesn’t this seem incredibly naive and entirely inadequate to you?

      My argument deals entirely with behavior. I take into account the behavior of black individuals, along with the social and historical factors that influence that behavior. The big difference between your naive “theory” and my argument is that I acknowledge the behavior of others that a successful black person must necessarily interact with to be successful (most of these people would likely be white). Again, historical and cultural factors influence how these other individuals view any given black individual, and those views have a strong influence on the success or failure of that individual. What’s more, these views are applied without taking into account the behavior of that individual black person (meaning “prejudice”).

      “White Privilege” is all about behavior–the assumption of whiteness as normative. It is a behavior that acts as an outside factor influencing the success of failure of American blacks. The whole things is that “White Privilege” is something the vast majority of us experience without recognizing it–it’s not a malicious behavior, and there is not reason to feel shame or guilt about it. It is, however, something you can only work to remedy when you are aware of it, which is exactly why this university is trying to raise awareness.

      Where exactly are you getting those figures? This is from an article in Forbes from 2010, when unemployment reached its peak:

      “What white Americans regard as a recession may feel more like a depression to certain minority groups in the U.S., according to a new report by the Economic Policy Institute, a non-profit think tank.

      9.7% of American adults were unemployed at the end of 2009. But the percentage of whites who were unemployed at year’s end (8.1%) was well below the national average, while African-Americans and Hispanics saw rates of 15.5% and 12.4%, respectively.

      Though the national unemployment rate for each group roughly doubled between the end of 2007, when the recession kicked off, and the end of 2009, there was noticeable rate disparity along racial lines in certain states, according to EPI analyst Kai Filion.”

      I don’t think a anyone can accuse Forbes magazine of liberal propaganda. Now, unless you have other, better figures to back up your argument, you’ll have to concede your point.

      It’s all fine and good to say that slavery and segregation were a perversion of “limited government” principles now, but that’s a whole lot of revisionism. I doubt that you would argue that limited government principles insist that every citizen should have full control of what to do with their property, right? Well, slaveholders would be the very first to acknowledge that their entire argument was based on rights to property. The same went for segregation, which insisted that property rights could be best preserved for both whites and blacks if they were deliberately kept separate. This argument is obviously fallacious, but it was the power of the “limited government” mantra that allowed this injustice to go one for so long.

      To this day, the idea of “limited government” prevents us from addressing all kinds of problems, from discriminatory hiring practices to pay equality to the denial of basic rights to laborers.

The racist LBJ gave the black single woman money in hopes of destroying the black family and the Republican party in the name of ending poverty. We still have poverty but where the black man once was on the way up and out of poverty… LBJ, in the name of ‘War on Poverty’ erased the inroads the black man had made and helped to keep him in poverty.       Despite your protests, in your very sentence defining “white privilege” you demonstrate that it’s NOT behavior-based at all. You can’t avoid the very term “whiteness” in your defn, thereby closing the circular argument. My point doesn’t evacuate the history of real juridical impositions made by some govts over race, but instead contextualizes it as part of the past.
      There are real racists out there, for example, but everyone considers them kooks and they get no purchase whatsoever in govt. That reality puts the lie to the kind of it’s all stacked against minorities belief you hold all on its own.
      You want to claim there’s something still structural out there that keeps blacks down, “cultural prejudices” in your words, but then you slip all over the place refusing to contextualize which cultures and which periods you’re discussing, then blame it all on American national institutional racism (all while claiming the concept of “white privilege” isn’t racist at all-which is ridiculous on its face). Stay focused on one context. Where are the racists today? What power do they hold? This “awareness raising” IS a guilt-trip, and is NOT innocently trying to help whites feel grateful for blessings.

      And now a word about revisionism. You’re either projecting or ignorant of some of the basics.
      Logically: you don’t go the the Chevy dealer to ask his opinion on Fords, so why should you believe a slaveholder when he claims Blacks are property.
      Morally: Yes or no, are blacks people? If your answer is yes, then it doesn’t matter what the argument of a slaveholder is, it’s immoral for people to be property. Jim Crow/segregationist governors were also wrong to attempt to limit the freedom of blacks. Their own stated reasons are therefore moot.
      Historically: The slaveholding South wanted to have its cake and eat it too, right from the beginning. The Framers wrote in the 3/5 compromise not to define individual blacks as less than a person, but because the South wanted to count all of them as people when it came to electoral college votes, but NOT as people when it came to everything else. In other words, thew always KNEW their law was unjust, therefore the ideas of liberty and lmtd govt were what REVERSED the unjust laws.
      The idea of lmtd govt is not a mere mantra, it’s a requirement for liberty. It doesn’t currently prevent addressing inequities, it prevents govt from the mission creep of defining inequities down for political purposes.
      The FAILURE of lmtd govt is what imposed Jim Crow laws, cuz govt has no right to enforce inequities. The FAILURE of lmtd govt is what drove segregation, cuz govt has no right to use skin color to determine education rights.

      When you say “contextualizing” something as in the past, you really mean “dismissing” it. Your naive assumption that no one who has any kind of power is a racist is just silly–the generation in power now grew up at a time when racism was still encoded in U.S. law. Which argument do you think makes the bigger leap: 1) that in only two generations since legal segregation, cultural attitudes and the legacy of wholesale repression of black populations continues to affect black social mobility, or 2) that the black unemployment rate is almost twice as high as the white rate because blacks just don’t want to work hard?

      But, to go back to “White Privilege,” you keep asserting that this term is racist. How so? Please be clear about what you mean by racist, since this concept in no way assigns a specific quality to white people. As I said, it’s all about behavior, and the fact that you are subject to a different kind of behavior from others if you are white than if you are black.

      Again, so we’re clear: “white privilege” is not an inherent quality of being racially “white.” It’s not an essential racial attribute. It’s a concept that explains how white people (because of the legal/historical construction of whiteness) can afford not to think about racial discrimination (as you insist on not doing) because they are not held back by it. There is nothing circular in this argument.

      These people are deluded, morons, I would like to see any one them sell there home, and buy one in an all black neighborhood to live there, hmmm, probably not right! I wonder why? Why is it that blacks come into white neighborhoods and buy homes and live, and not the other way around?? This is just one example of many as to why this crap from these fools is meaningless dribble! They are the suckers of the world and the black people will use them up, don’t they know why they pay so much in taxes already and will probably pay more and more…….

      I misread the chart, I must be getting old and need glasses. I am wrong on that piece, I’ll admit that much, as a %.

      There a more unemployed white than black people (that is what I looked at), but that just goes along with the total population ratios, and was total numbers not %..

      Even so, does the black man have less chance to get an education, or not become president of the USA, the answer is NO. Believe it or not, everyone has an equal chance here, if they choose to work hard, get an education and apply themselves, so your argument still falls flat, in that regard.

      I just glanced over the debate that you have been having with several others about what constitutes racism or to what extent racism exists. To many details and to little time for me to follow it all.

      But I would like to state that everyone will respond to what they like or don’t like. There are cultures that are more likable than others and while not all cultures are race based there are observable patterns that one race may have more problems than another. If the black race has more problems than the white race it should not be assumed that the white race caused it. I do not blame the black race for that portion of the white race that followed Stalin or Hitler or for that portion of the yellow race that followed Mao.

      Just as whites are not raised to like people just because they are white, please do not expect white people to like blacks just because they are black. It all depends on what the individual is like. Does he exemplify virtue? Is he trustworthy? Is he of good character?

      It is good to discriminate between good and evil. Those who see evil as good and good as evil seem to be many and they will not discern what is right in life. The good and bad are not equal and they cannot live as one. And this is NOT based on race/ the color of ones skin.

      I am at peace with the Godly, regardless of their skin color.

      How is admitting there was racial injustice and insisting we keep it in remembrance so as not to repeat the mistakes of the past “dismissing” anything?
      Dismissing history is what YOU’RE doing, because you deny that we’ve beaten the demon, and that the laws are now just as they should have been in the beginning. You judge today as if it WAS 2 generations ago. I have demonstrated that even the cultural attitudes you decry as racist are not prevalent, but marginalized. The generation in power now grew up when we removed the encoding of racism.
      The argument that cultural attitudes affect black social mobility presupposes social mobility depends on race, and therefore can’t explain cause and effect. You‘ve set up a false dichotomy with assumptions you won’t even admit you’re making: IF you‘re trying to admit you think whites are racist and purposely keep blacks from succeeding you’re racist. It‘s a HUGE leap to say people’s color determines their opportunities. But if instead you’re trying to say the outcomes are different, then you’ve confused the argument, because the question is whether freedom of OPPORTUNITY exists. IF on the other hand you’re trying to corner me into saying I think blacks are just lazier than whites, I won’t bite, because my theory doesn’t require race to explain success or failure.       You want to claim your term “white privilege” is not racist because it’s not essentialist, and therefore doesn’t impute qualities to individuals arbitrarily.
      Distinction without a difference. You’ve imputed an oppressive, selfish, greedy, intolerant ESSENCE to a GROUP based on RACE when you insert the word “white” in that term.
      Either own up to it, or admit you’re wrong.
      The nasty thing about the theory that people are people, and are responsible for the use of their freedom is that some people choose behaviors that get them consequences they don’t like-no matter what the opinion, attitude, or historical oppression perpetrated by the other group. Do the crime, do the time.
      The great thing about that theory, though, is that a person who a SINGLE generation ago hated my guts for my religion, my ethnicity, my language, and my culture now smiles at me at the check-out counter and trades his goods for my greenbacks as if we had never been at war.

      No, I haven’t. There is no “intolerant essence” to any race. Let’s look at it this way: would you admit that white people in segregated areas during Jim Crow benefited from “white privilege,” regardless of whether they themselves were actually racists or supported segregation in any way? Now, if they benefited from “white privilege,“ would that mean that there was some ”intolerant essence” to their race? No. I’m merely saying that in often subtle ways, the advantages that those perceived as white during segregation survive today.

      The fundamental disagreement between you and I here is that you think that racism no longer exists as a significant obstacle to African American social mobility, and I think it does. Your rather disingenuous move is to suggest that because I think racism didn’t simply disappear when it was no longer legally supported, that I must be a racist. But again, assuming that racism “disappeared” magically is a bit silly–prejudices against many other groups exist and remain without ever having been supported by law.

      On the other hand, since the correct behavior for you inevitably leads to success, your argument dictates that blacks to a greater degree just don’t behave correctly. You claim you don’t use race to explain anything, but that just mean you ignore the very clear disparities that show up when race is brought into consideration. How can you claim we’ve “beat the demon” when you admit you are deliberately not taking into account evidence that racial disparities exist on a large scale? If you actually love this country as much as you claim, how is it you insist on turning a blind eye to injustices that need to be fixed?

      I am sure I love this country as much as you do, which is why I want to work towards a future in which race means absolutely nothing–where the concept does not exist at all. Ignoring what still needs to be done doesn‘t somehow magically mean we’ve “beat the demon.”

      Clarifications notwithstanding, you persist in skipping over my main argument: that you’re uselessly dwelling on equality of outcome differences (which I have never denied-of course some subtle vestiges of juridical privileges remain-but not to anywhere close to the degree you imply), when it’s the equality of opportunity that counts. But I can also take a stab at coming at it from another angle: Our basic disagreement is NOT what you say. It’s that YOU define privileges as STILL belonging to whites, when I call them AMERICAN privileges available to all. Since all juridical obstacles have been removed, institutional racism has been beaten. If there’s any remainder, it’s ever more being marginalized in the culture. Even on the Blaze (where libs claim the hard right racists go), when an idiot in Buffalo says something racist, it’s sharply put down and condemned.
      As to your own disingenuous accusations: a disparity exists, yes, and I have stated that opportunity is equal, yes, so the conclusion is that blacks are inherently lazy? WHAT? Association is not causation, Mr. Fallacious. Just because a disparity exists, doesn’t mean privilege caused it. And IF it DOES turn out to be true that blacks are lazy in the aggregate, (which only DATA can prove, because it’s NOT an INHERENT quality), then guilt-tripping whites will have the opposite effect you intend: 1. focuses on wrong target, 2. leads to more laziness and entitlement rather than inspiring work.

      Umm… that’s a silly comparison. You are really suggesting that blacks had as much influence on the rise of Stalin as whites had in the oppression of blacks in America? You might want to rethink that a bit.

      Yes, it would be nice if people were only judged as individuals, but that is still not true in many cases in this country. I totally agree with the sentiment, but to suggest that we are there now is naive and, in the end, harmful to our chances of actually getting there.

      It is a benefit of “white privilege” that you have the luxury to say we can ignore race. However, if you are in a group in which unemployment is twice as high as it is for whites, I would argue that you don’t have the luxury of ignoring race as a potential factor.

      The reason that you think that I have “skipped over” your main argument–that there is “equality of opportunity”–is simply that you have done absolutely nothing to support that argument other than simply declaring it true. In the same vein, I talk about outcomes because they are clear and quantifiable phenomena and not something that I have simply declared. You even concede that there are residual affects of legal racism (which is what I have been saying all along), but you merely “declare” that these effects are not significant. At every turn you have simply declared that racism is defeated, yet approaching the sum total of statistical and demographic evidence objectively there is no reason to make this assumption.

      You also seem to think, quite counter-intuitively, that opportunity has no relationship to outcome. I am talking about opportunity as much as you. We know that racism (whether legal or cultural) has a real effect on opportunities available to African Americans. Those opportunities necessarily lead to disparities in outcomes among races. Those outcomes, again, are clear and quantifiable, while your argument about opportunity entirely relies on your assumption/assertion/declaration that everyone is afforded equality of opportunity–an assertion ignores the entire history of race relations in this country and that you have done nothing to support.

      So, to rephrase:

      My argument:
      Premises–
      1) There are clear quantifiable disparities in economic achievement between whites and blacks in America today.
      2) Historically, opportunities for blacks in America have been extremely limited by legal and cultural prejudices that were encoded within the American legal system as late as the early 1970s.
      Conclusion–
      3) Cultural prejudices, along with the economic effects that remain from de jure segregation, continue to limit opportunities for African Americans and thus contribute to the disparity in outcomes.

      Your argument:
      Premise–
      1) Everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed (an assumption you have done nothing to support other than to point to the end of de jure segregation)
      Conclusion–
      1) None, because you don’t actually argue “for” anything. Even though you are positing a clear causal argument–good behavior is the cause of success–and yet you back away from the obvious logical conclusion to this argument–that bad behavior results in a lack of success. Instead, you accuse me of a fallacy because I AM actually making an argument about factors that contribute to disparate outcomes. You refuse to even defend your own argument.

      Of COURSE means constrain opportunities, but when even LIMITED opportunities are seized, outcomes are positive, blacks and whites alike move up in social brackets. Disparity in outcomes disappears for all races regardless of historical prejudices (or lack thereof) WHEN opportunities are seized.
      Your “contributing factors” are left with no basis, and your argument falls flat and is left with forgetting what I’ve proven, and with accusing me of the illogic you yourself purvey.
      If you want whites to be more grateful for the opportunities America’s freedom and equality have offered them earlier and with less struggle than blacks, and share more, and promote even more freedom and equality, don’t guilt-trip: send them to church! They’ll learn the ideas most of them already have: that all of us are God’s children, that He’s no respecter of persons, that we must love our fellow beings as ourselves, that generosity is rewarded on earth AND in heaven, that there is justice in heaven even if temporary unfairness persists in mortality, and that evil will be punished. THOSE are the ideas that killed slavery, won a civil war, and made MLK triumphant. Individual hearts can still make progress, but guilt-trips are counter-productive anyway-the church approach is better.
      “Whiteness” isn‘t what’s normative, it’s Americanness-and that’s a good thing! When you finally believe that, you’ll join me and MLK in a colorless society of success.

      Hold up there Buckaroo. You have a bit of a logic problem–saying that you need a full-time job to avoid poverty (a pretty clear-cut point) does nothing to disprove the influence on the legacies of racism on socio-economic status. Also, I never said that “all Americans everywhere were horribly & oppressively racist.” Now, in this conversation I have done my best to properly represent your views as I argue against them–you could do me the same courtesy.

      You see, the problem with the Brookings institution “rules” is that, for example, in a group in which 13.6% percent unemployment, its a bit pointless to say that “if you just get a full time job, you’ll be fine.” Factors too influence how many African Americans are able to finish high school, particularly the neglect of inner-city “black” schools and the rerouting of resources to predominately white or suburban schools.

      Sure–if everyone could follow these rules, we would all be in the middle class. Why not? But the logic here is akin to saying that the source of unemployment is people not having jobs.

      My white sons and all of their many white friends have ALL been followed by security at the mall, through stores, etc. This happened when they were teens, minding their own business and trying to shop. My boys are now adults making good money. There are certain stores that they will not shop at to this day because they are still angry from being “profiled”. (For being white? For being young? For being male?) Oh, and by the way…my boys and all of their white friends have also been hassled and some even assaulted by police officers (Cleveland, Ohio and suburbs) for supposed “offenses”. So black people, get over it. We live in a police state and we need to unite together, Black, Hispanic, White, young and old, male and female. As long as we are picking at each other “the man” wins.

      I think EVERY “white” person should immediately transfer to another college. THEN see what happens. I wonder if their “white guilt” stems from an even deeper guilt: the privileged life of a tenured professor who gets 100K / year for sitting around and pontificating while having TA’s grade papers for half the hours per year a construction worker works. I know of this “white guilt” first hand, the best friend of a girl I dated for a year majored in “African Studies”, and she was white as snow. Even discussions about where we were all going to eat ended up about reparations.

    I moved to Arizona in the mid-70′s and was looking for work. It was back in the days before you could buy your own phone and an employee from the phone company came to install my phone. I asked about the chances of getting on at the phone company and was told “You’re not Black, Indian, Mexican, or a Woman, you don’t stand a chance.” Because I am a white male, I was denied even the opportunity to prove myself.

    Yeah, it’s not fair being a white male. We’re the lowest on the totem pole, the bottom of the barrel and the last ‘group’ of people to be considered in this affirmative action world. As long as there are quotas and ‘racial diversity’ is the goal instead of getting the best people, this will continue. I say get the best person for the job, regardless of color. If you have the top scores and your personality fits in with the rest of the employees, you get the job. If all you have to offer is diversity of race or gender, why should you get the job?

    I‘d like to see a basketball team or a baseball team be forced to include people that just aren’t very good at their sport in order to achieve some sort of ‘ability diversity’ and be forced to play them against other teams. What would that do to the revenues? Who wants to watch mediocre players fumble and bumble their way around the sporting arena?

      How about being say a firefighter that has to listen to orders that put your life in the hands of their leader and have a chief that was promoted not because they knew how to fight a fire or where to put personel, but because there were not enough of a certain color in that rank. Asking if the truck should go on the “A” side is racist.
      That puts my life and every person of that color also in jeopardy, but that is common sense and it does not work.
      The dumbing down of America!
      Or how about a teacher teaching social studies that says you can be arrested for talking about the president. Excellent education, the dumbing down of America. A teacher too stupid to teach what she has been, educated on??????

      Nothings changed. My 20 year old son got an interview with a big city municipal sewer dept. for a summer job. Thought it would be a fascinating- come to find out he got the interview based on his name-sounds Hispanic, and is actually Norwegian -he’s got blue eyes, (maybe he should get some brown contacts, it’d be a fun experiment anyway). The interview was barely cursory, which he thought was odd. I am one hundred percent certain they had women and minority quotas. Good grades in engineering school didn’t outweigh the color of his skin or ones gender. Of course, cannot be “proven” but just Wow. Cannot believe in the era of ‘hope and change’ and “the great uniter” the outright discrimination. White men ARE the bottom of the barrel.

      You know it’s funny that you say white males are the bottom of the barrel. I work for a large grocery store chain, where it‘s common knowledge that if you’re white chances are, you will never see a promotion. They have to fill a “quota” of how many minorities are in each position before white people can get a shot. Now I’m all for diversity, and equal opportunity, but this has led to some very undeserving people being in a leadership postion. This policy exceeds the normal affirmitive action laws. This is a policy that the company itself implemented after being sued for alledgedly being race and gender bias.

      My husband has been looking for a better job, I have thought about testing a theory send two copies of his resume one saying he is a “minority” and one normal one of who he is. Then when wait to see which resume person gets called. Of course you can’t do that it is fraud, but it would be an interesting test.

      Every racial group that immigrates to the US outperforms blacks…as a group…. in almost every endeavor even though they are mostly dirt poor when they arrive, with many of them unble to speak the language.

      For blacks to still be using slavery as an excuse for failure tells us unequivocally that they need someone to blame for their inability to compete.

      No other group really needs AA, because they seem to be doing o.k. on their own. But blacks not only need AA in entry, grading and certification, for higher education, they need it to get jobs, because nobody wants to hire an AA gimmie who has a degee or diploma but still can’t effectively read, write or do math.

      My wife is South African and you would not believe the stories she has told me about he home Country. The problem with America is when the Dogs do take over there is no where left to run. Most White South Africans go to England, Australia, New Zeland or Canada. They should have fought to save there country instead they handed it over to the Dogs. What will we do?

    anything to fan the hate of whites and for attempting to increase ‘white guilt’ is racist. Census reports indicate that in a few years we will no longer be the majority. If all whites are accused of being in the privileged class and the cause of the misery of the minorities, then the hatred that this effort will create will definitely be displayed against the whites when we are in the minority…and it will be justified by productions such as this.

    I live in Minn and the level of white guilt is disgusting. Its been going on for years.
    When I was a kid . White kids got suspension for fighting and black kids didn’t!
    Because they were at risk of dropping out .
    About 30 years ago the political class here was wringing their hands over the lack of minorities in the
    state .They worked hard at spending tax dollars to recruit minorities to come to Minn.
    Apparently we needed minorities so we could help them and whip ourselves for our inherit racism!

      I live in the land of 10,000 liberals also. I was not shocked to see this coming from the U of M Duluth! When I graduated from highschool some 30 years ago, we had a class of 800. We had one young black man in our senior class….He was our class president!!!!!!!! What how can that be? Can’t wait till my husband retires so we can move to a decent state that does not tax the hell out of the few who still do pay personal and corporate taxes. DO NOT TRY TO RUN A BUSINESS IN MN.

      When I went to high school they were just starting to bus. My football coach told his players that the following semester we were going to have black kids join our school. He then told us that some of them might not shave but that didn’t mean we could let ourselves go… he still expected us to come to school looking neat. He also told us that they might not be able to read very well and we were not to laugh at them.
      We lived in a white culture where you went to school, worked hard, played hard, and went home to chores, studying, and bed. There was a mighty clash between us and the new students who we accepted as just other kids who were here to do what students do… study and work hard. Within two years, a formerly white school in an upscale area of the city was now all black and the kids who came to work hard were all going to the private schools that had opened. Rednecks historically have been lazy, stupid, and pre-occupied with sex and they come in many different flavors. I happened to find out that black people can be just as redneck as white people can be.

      The world would exist if whites never existed, but there would with out a doubt be a much lower standard of living world wide. And we would most certainly the steam age and beyond would not have happened yet. We would still look a lot like Africa, or South America and a lot less like our current modern society.

      Zorro: Prove it. Current affairs would indicate that you’re are allowing your PC dogma to prevent you from seeing the truth.

      Most any country where people want to be is majority white or was historically so. As for the hellholes, almost none are. The only exceptions to that would seem to be Japan/S. Korea/Hong Kong/Singapore on the good site and Bosnia and the Caucasus on the bad side. Each has an issue with Islam and the various little countries in the Caucasus are as much Asian as “white”.

      I do disagree with the premise of this thread of thought, it wasn’t race that contributed to the state of affairs around the world, it was ignorance. Take the old Europeans colonies in Africa, after they achieved their freedom, the people listened to a bunch of racial and anti-colonial demagogues and effectively banished the people who were in charge of infrastructure and food production for their roles in the old governments, then put in their friends who had no idea how to run those systems. Throw in the inevitably corrupt revolutionary regimes, and the nations fell into the wonderful visions of hell we know today.

      White, Black, or whatever; racepimps always result in the same stupidity being repeated over and over again. Anyone who believes that they deserve something because of their race or creed without doing anything to work for it is a sorry excuse for a human being.

      I am sorry but that is actually pretty raciest. there is absolutely nothing to prove or disprove that theory because it is so abstract. I will point out that it was China that was century’s ahead of Europe technologically for some time. in fact it was not until Europe starting trading with China that living conditions in Europe started to improve.

    How do they explain Asian privilege since Asians out score European Americans by every academic measure and are now filling up universities out of proportion to their demographic numbers? Seems to me that Asians get better treatment and have a better chance. I mean, what’s actual achievement have to do with anything?

      They aren’t privledged. Almost every Asian I know works extremely hard and both gets what they deserve and deserves what they get. Most of my friends are Asians, and it honestly matters very little. The universities may give them extras because they are Asian, but they accept it because it is what they get. Their families can’t pay for them to get into a random liberal college. I am White and male and in the same exact situation. Because of my own hard work, I have also gotten plenty of grants and scholarships for school.

      I went to what is the most diverse school in Nevada, they are ranked #1 in Nevada for academics for tests such as AP, IB, SAT, ACT, and normal grades, and are ranked around #170 in the nation. This is a school where Latinos are the main racial group at ~50%, Whites are at ~25%, and Asians and Blacks are each at ~10%. I didn’t feel out of place, “privledged” or anything else. I felt simply like a student wishing for an education. It was competitive because the school didn’t care about color or affirmative action, it is in a poor neighborhood and they cared about the students’ education. As a result, people are pushing down the doors to get to the IB magnet program, making the school madly competitive compared to other schools in the same area, in rich neighborhoods too.

      It is actual achievement that matters when they wish for actual achievement to matter. It is not when liberals get in the way and make it irrelevant.

    Just where are the great black or brown cultures that dont discriminate, treat everyone as equals, provides wealth and economic success to its people? lets make it easier, where are the black cultures that feed themselves? Which black culture built the first of anything? where is the booming black indutry that clothes and feeds its people? where is the black society that is politically so advanced everyone is happy and properous? lets make it easier..where is there a black population of any size at all that is , self sufficient, industrious, and most important, nonracist? Easier, where is the black community whites can go in at night safely?

    I don’t get it. I’ve lived in Minnesota for a few years several years ago. Beautiful countryside, love the lakes. But what makes the people up there so freakin’ liberal?

      How right you are ! These people need to get out more and see the rest of this country..Swimming pools are not a big privilege…My kids have never lived in a house without one and we are all black. We educated ourselves without grants and loans and etc. Now my kids do not qualify for grants and whatever else people believe all black folks are receiving or trying to get or think they deserve. Our parents were raised for the most part with very little so we know “how to” survive in all situations. If everyone is offered the same opportunities I think we will all do well…because actually we all need each other…I need to know what you think and believe it or not you need to hear what I am thinking.

    I suspect Mr. Wise is a “self-hating“ white man who failed at his original career objective and blames ”the man” for his incompetence. He certainly can’t blame himself, he was raised to believe he is special. Since he is a failure, he must now savage those who he feels kept him down and run them into the ground. It is doubly unfortunate that we have similarly situated people running our alleged institutions of higher learning. The university administration in this case should be fired and never again allowed to work at either a public or private university….these people are racists, plain and simple and should be shunned.

    So if Lendley Black and his cohorts think White Privilege is going on, shouldn’t they all step down from their positions and give them to someone else of another race? This is an excerpt from the article back in 2010 when Black was named Chancellor from the UMN website:

    ““Dr. Black’s candidacy for this position received strong support from the Duluth and University communities,” Bruininks said. “His demonstrated leadership ability, strong administrative and academic credentials and experience and commitment to communication, collaboration and consensus building made him the top candidate for this position. I strongly believe he has the qualifications and leadership style to drive the unique academic needs of the campus.”

    .. but I thought he only got the job through white privilege?

      In fact, I was discriminated against in favor of less qualified blacks to satisfy Ma Bells’ desire to meet Affirmitive Action quotas. .

      The Democrat Margaret Sanger started Planned Parenthood because she and other Democrats believed people of darker skin were inferior. She used Planned Parenthood to stop people of color from having so many of what she believed to be “inferior” children.

      umm.. DUDE, I am an “American” who’s skin is “pale” or “fair” or “light” or whatever you want to call it…

      I’m bashing the people who made the videos, etc becasue THEY haven’t found a black/red/yellow/purple person to give their home/job/car to… I Paid for my own college, made my own way in life… I have a great job that I am really good at.. I have a sweet Victorian home and two pretty nice rides in the driveway.. I don‘t feel guilty for anyone who doesn’t have what I have.. I just work 10-12 hours a day to have them!! I’m not giving up anything to anyone without a fight…

      all I’m saying is that the peolpe in this campaign need to give up everything THEY have to whoever it is has been “wronged.” I’ve never wronged anyone on the basis of their skin color… so I don’t owe anyone anything!

      JOHNNYCAT- No need to give up a job. Governmental racism has taken care of that. It’s called Affirmative Action, it’s called admission quotas. I don’t recall ANY federal law that requires I be given any preference in employment or education because I am caucasian. Only you poor put-upon minorities get that.

      Let’s not forget, a far out of proportion number of the government workers are black. Hmmm, why is that? Oh, I know, our government actively discriminates against everyone who is not black. It is in the laws. We are ruled by a black minority that actively enforces laws against the rest of America. Why do you think so much money is wasted? Why the government actively assist and did not care if hundreds, maybe thousands of Mexicans were killed in Fast and Furious? And then the government made a big deal out of a thug like Treyvon. Can’t have those whiteys or Mexicans getting uppity. Same with the michigan militia and other militias, buncha red neck crackers getting uppity. As for illegals, they are good slave labor.
