First, there was the the case of the 15-month-old given booze at a Detroit-area Applebee’s.
Then there was the toddler in Florida who was served sangria instead of orange juice.
And now we have a child in Chicago getting an alcoholic “mudslide” drink instead of chocolate shake:
The young girl was taken to a hospital and diagnosed with “alcohol overdose.” CBS 2 reports:
Tyree Davis said she was having dinner with her daughter at a Chili’s at 1750 W. 119th St. in the Morgan Park neighborhood around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, when her daughter’s chocolate shake got swapped with a mudslide alcoholic beverage, which contains vodka.
Davis said her daughter, Brooklynn Morris, 4, was later diagnosed with an alcohol overdose.
The two drinks look similar, and both contain chocolcate. Davis later took a picture of them side-by-side with her cell phone camera.
But Brooklynn drank from the cocktail three or four times, and her mother said the little girl noticed something wasn’t right.
“Brooklynn said, ‘I don’t like it,’ and she said, ‘You don’t like it? Why? Let me taste it,’” Davis said, “and when I tasted it – alcohol. I knew immediately it was alcohol.”
Davis said she tried it herself, and that is when she realized it was an alcoholic drink.
The server said perhaps the drinks had been swapped.
“That’s when I saw the waitress approaching me with the chocolate shake,” Davis said. “How can you make that mistake? And then the manager said they were sitting on the bar side-by-side – the cholocate shake and the mudslide.”
Davis said she called police, who responded to the restaurant and told her to take her daughter to the emergency room, because the girl was dozing off.

Posted on April 18, 2011 at 5:39pmHave you ever wondered why things happen like this? Why all the sudden their are several children getting these drinks? Ever wonder why all the sudden air traffic controllers are falling asleep. Ever wonder why you see a rash of incidents that never got air play before but now they just can’t keep it out of the news. Look deeper. What and who does this benefit?

Posted on April 18, 2011 at 4:55pmI’m thinking that someone(s) is/are going around sabotaging all the major chain restaurants. I can believe one or even two accidents, but three within days of each other makes it look like deliberate sabotage.
In any case, all parents need to take a sip of their child’s drink before letting the child drink it for the time being.

Posted on April 18, 2011 at 5:06pmIt‘s Michelle Obama’s fault. She wants us all to eat healthy so why not shut down those evil capitalist dining establishments that only fuel our nation’s obesity rate? Rahm probably told her to get her minions out there to do their worst, even if it means harming the kids to accomplish their goal.
Or not. (But it wouldn’t really surprise me.)

Posted on April 19, 2011 at 6:59pmThis makes more sense than alot of stuff I’ve read on here! The Mom did not prepare the drink, the article didn’t say the Mom ordered alcohol and why was a non alcoholic drink setting on a bar next to an alcoholic drink? Makes me glad that we generally eat at places that don’t serve alcohol cause either of us drink!

Posted on April 18, 2011 at 4:51pmSomething is being stired up, probably by unions. All the same incidents happening around the country at the same time? Kids drinks and sleeping air traffic controlers, I don’t think its coincidence.

Report Post »I will have to agree with you on the union thing!!! ;) I checked out these restaurants and none of them are unionized. So maybe that is what the union is doing!!! :( I know that this may sound like a conspiracy…but they probably have someone who is union undercover at these places to do the drinks…and say oops we didn’t mean for your toddler to have any alcohol. We made a mistake. Just so that big government can step in and take over the restaurant businesses. I don’t know what the end game will be…but it sure is fishy!!! ;/

Please, please, please tell me you’re kidding.
I happened to be in an ER waiting for my roommate who was a nursing student to finish up the rounds when they brought in a toddler who was in an alcohol induced coma. He died. With very little effort I can still remember the mother’a screams when they told her. I NEVER EVER want to hear that again.
I guess it could be considered funny to some as long as it’s not your child.

Posted on April 18, 2011 at 5:23pmNormally I would say that even in three diverse areas, alcohol in the drink to the kids could be one big set of coincidences; things do happen after all.
However, after this year of seeing people in fights in fast food restraunts and family dining restraunts, and now three such incidents occuring, it is getting a little weird. Again, most likely just a series of unrelated coincidences, yet has anyone thought to check these places out, where both sets of events have occured and see if any kind of major labor or union disputes have taken place?

Posted on April 18, 2011 at 6:17pmIt can happen as long as restaurants continue to make the children’s drinks at the bar like many of them do. It is an unfortunate situation and yes I would be very upset if it was my child. The restaurant should pay for the mistake just to hammer home the point that some mistakes just cannot be allowed to happen. I sure hope they don’t get millions however, but a judgement in the neighborhood of $15k would be a nice incentive for them to be more careful. It really does boil down though to parents need to be a whole lot less trusting when it comes to what their kids are given in restaurants. I have found some damaging items once or twice in my years of eating out and it can happen. For example whenever you eat fish you need to be aware that there could be bones that could choke a child and even hamburger patties. I about broke a tooth once eating a hamburger that had a bone chip in it.

Ummm- most people wanting to “hit the lawsuit lottery” don’t call the police to the scene where they can bear witness to what happened and if they did so falsely, whi did the Chili’s employees not call her out of it to the police right then and there?
Then again, from your other, “blackface,” comments lower in the thread, I suspect you’re a troll infiltrator trying to make political opponents look racist. All you’re missing now is some kind of double entendre sex act reference.
