NPR Report on Editing Ethics in Expose Video Features Blaze Analysis

Over the weekend I spoke with NPR’s David Folkenflik about our analysis of the Project Veritas video that revealed egregious statements by NPR executives.  His report aired today on “Morning Edition.”

NPR:

Footage posted online last week by conservative activist James O‘Keefe III captured NPR’s chief fundraising official, Ron Schiller, disparaging conservatives and the Tea Party and saying NPR would be better off without federal funding.

Fueled in part by the attention given the video by the conservative Daily Caller website, an 11 1/2-minute version of O‘Keefe’s hidden camera video ricocheted around the blogosphere Tuesday.

It mortified NPR, which swiftly repudiated Schiller’s remarks and in short order triggered his ouster along with that of his boss, NPR CEO Vivian Schiller, who is no relation to Ron Schiller.

A closer review of those tapes, however, shows that many of Ron Schiller’s most provocative remarks were presented in a misleading way.

Further reaction from NPR’s Mark Memmott can be found here.

I have one concern. Looking through the history of the Beck/Okeefe/Breitbart relationship here..I’ve noticed a fair contingent of former Breitbart cohorts are now staffed over here..and Glen appears to have thrown Okeefe under the bus on this one. Given the fact that Okeefe/Beck really uprooted ACORN back in the day..Why? Maybe I’m being naive or am reading it wrong…but I sense a sort of ‘softening’ in Glenn’s stance with the leftie media as well. Don’t pounce on me…I’m still a Beckster. Just questioning with boldness..as it were.

watch the whole video and you can see that there was plenty of things to discredit npr besides the bad editing. npr is still everything they were before this video and in this video even with the bad editing the story still stands. beck just pointed out that it would have been damning without editing. beck was not bashing okeefe, he was simply letting okeefe know that you don’t have to edit things when the left speaks. their own words are damning enough.

I still say this whole thing is just another staged Beck fraud. There was no journalism involved in any way, shape or form. O’Keefe has no credibility as anything other than a professional “gotcha!” guy (who lies and deceives his way through life), so he makes one legitimate video, deliberately edits it with bias and malice aforethought, hands the two tapes over to Beck and says “here’s your gift of pretending to be a real news outlet – knock yourself out!” and voila! The lamestream media eats it up. Come on – how long did you think it would take before the public could see through this charade?

It did not matter about the story to begin with, before the story even came out. NPR needs to be de-funded using our tax paying dollars. Let Spooky dude and Unions feed their frenzy. They can run their business as Private sector do!. Period, end of story.

Just to add this…we let Fox News reporters during the presidential election elude to the fact that it’d be okay if someone took a pot shot at Barack Obama. I was surprised the FCC didn’t fine them for that. I‘m not sure why some of you are obsessing on the Schillers in the video feed and arguing if they’re related or not..what difference would that make anyway? Ron was expressing his personal view off the record and he was quoting someone elses comment..and for this NPR should be seen as imbalanced and not Fox News? I’m just not sure where you all are coming from>?

Well, I’m pretty baffled at the response is here. I‘ve listened to NPR and they’re a great news source, other than the mass media, that bring both republicans, democrats, independents and tea party supporters on and give the public during open mike to ask them questions up front. I know of no other place that does this. As far as the video feed that Mr. O’Keef put out there…yes, when you doctor up a video to suit your purpose then there’s something wrong. All of you say you are interested in the truth, to have balanced reporting but it doesn’t sound like it. I‘ve read that ’The Blaze’ is supported by Glenn Beck. He’s a multimillionaire…doesn‘t it bother you that you’re being influenced by ‘the right’? I stand by NPR…I think many people think that NPR is a smug station only meant for the ‘elite’ but surprisingly..many people from doctors, lawyers to garbage collectors, truckers, housekeepers, etc…it runs the entire gammet of listeners. They aren’t out to brainwash people and incite riots as our Mr. Beck seems to be. So I am a little confused as to why people are upset with NPR. I haven’t read anything on this blog yet that seems like an intelligent answer.

I would like you to listen to NPR for a day or two (or you can go to their website). I would like you to find me an article that is mean-spirited, one-sided, or in some other way bashes the conservative movement. I might go so far as to have you find me one that presses a liberal agenda without giving the conservative agenda a fair response. If you can find me an article like that I will send you $100. Post a link to that article to my attention on this website and I’ll contact you back.

While it’s been a wile since I saw the actual law, wasn’t there a congressional law passed back in the dawning days of radio that made it plain in reference to the constitution that the Federal Government shall spend no monies on public airwaves except in the cause of emergencies? It’s a vague memory from my time studying the legal precedence of propaganda use during WWII and how that had to be waived in a special session for the duration of the conflict. Someone with better access to congressional records or a better memory may be able to help me out here.

If my memory is indeed correct, doesn’t funding NPR violate that law?

I agree, but my hats off to the Blaze. If they do as the Left always does, we will be nothing more than a bunch of biased bigots and closet racist who discredit women as the Left is and does.

I am in college right now at the ripe age of 35. I listen to the “crap” that comes out of these indoctrinated children who obviously only get their news from comedy central or MSNBC or CNN or The New York TImes or ….. lol Should I go on ?? When they say stuff in class like , “oh yeah, isn’t that governor trying to take away our rights by passing some kind of anti-union bill or something” or referring to the Arizona law as an anti-immigrant law. As the professor agree‘s with them and egg’s them on, the other kids say what is that ???.. another kid says“ it is a law that arrests you for looking hispancic”…before I can even correct them, the professor is saying that is right…
You see , these are the tactics of the left. As Glenn says, truth has no agenda. Truth will prevail hold the test of time. These b^stards will even report falsely, ON PURPOSE at times, and not even bother to correct themselves. IF you must only tell half-truths in order to push your agenda, the you are LYING, PERIOD !!

Good job Blaze…. This should go a long way with the Public. Let the people decide, even if I hate to be wrong, I would rather be wrong in the face of the truth than being right and living a LIE.

I still hold there are many small town and local news journalists who have the same desire and drive for the truth of stories and integrity of journalism, the Blaze shows that a restoration is now underway and they are no longer alone in the night.

Oh good, Broker is back, again, listen to one of the great salesman ever.“Its the economy stupid” James Carville.
“Ideologies aren’t all that important. What’s important is psychology.

The Democratic constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do is lay out enough silage and they come running. That’s why I became an operative working with Democrats. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd.

Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don’t have a clue as to political reality.
What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want.

The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn’t have a clue than there were Republicans.

Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you’re smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That‘s why I’m a Democrat. I can make the Democratic voters think whatever I want them to.”
