NPR Reporter Apologizes for Saying ‘Christmas’ On Air

Christmas has really been turned into a dirty word.

Speaking on the local D.C. program “Inside Washington,“ NPR reporter Nina Totenberg openly apologized for using the phrase ”Christmas party” while telling a story.

While discussion the omnibus spending bill that was rejected, she recalled a conversation with government defense officials regarding their budgets, a conversation that took place at a recent Christmas party. However, before she used the party’s adjective, she asked for forgiveness for invoking the “holiday” term. Transcript and video via NewsBusters:

Well, these agencies, including the Defense Department, don‘t know how much money they’ve got and for what. And I was at – forgive the expression – a Christmas party at the Department of Justice and people actually were really worried about this.

NewsBusters writer Brent Baker wonders why Tottenberg was so embarrassed and what she might propose as an alternative:

She didn’t say what she’d prefer for parties this time of the year to be named. “Winter solstice party”? Just plain old “holiday party”? Or a “seasonal gathering”?

      I’m with you Kate. Everywhere I go I have tried to be the first person to say “Thank You & Merry Christmas”. I have been really surprised because more people have responded back this year with “Merry Christmas” than they did last year. Retail stores and grocery stores, so I feel like maybe, just maybe people are getting the message. I pray that is true. May God Bless.

      I guess now it is a criminal offense to use such a term as “Merry Christmas” and similiar traditional greetings for the Christmas holiday? If this reporter feels it is so wrong to use the word Christmas in such things as a ‘Christmas story’ then she should never be around the stuff it is involved in. While she has free speech rights; we also have the rights, for now, to express ourselves in the history of the Christmas season indeed.

      So to all the Blazers, Merry Christmas and a Peace of God for the year here and the year to come.

      For NPR, may the new year see you disfunded and disbanded for the obvious displays of prejudice and bigotry against the christian beliefs displayed almost daily in the broadcasts.

      How miserable do you have to be to get offended by someone wishing you a Merry Christmas? Seriously, what kind of loathsome malcontents would feel anything other than gratitude when they are wished Merry Christmas? Christmas is a time when people set aside their own selfishness and give to others. It’s a time to give thanks, to give presents to those we love and to give help to the less fortunate in society if we have neglected them the rest of the year. Liberals hate Christmas, because they are selfish, self-centered and self-absorbed. This selfless time of year reminds them that the cost of their selfishness is loneliness and it enrages them. Better not to say anything, than get in trouble for saying the wrong thing.

      PC sure dumbs down the population. The Progressives adopted the “Dada Manifesto” in 1918 as their covert operating manual. This made a Saul Alinsky possible. Understanding Dada and being able to throw it back in “their” faces is an effective strategy to dethrone our self-imposed cultural monarchs in academia and the Arts. They all work together with the same agenda. to demoralize us and control us.

      The NPR reporter should move back to his homeland. This is America and Christmas stands for Christ’s Birth. I will continue to say Merry Christmas and I will not lower myself to their level. I say, Merry, Merry Christmas to everyone! Other countries think our government is ignorant and its time to stop being politically correct and start using common sense. We need to regain our respect back which the government “the people we have sent to Washington have destroyed.

      Nutthugger, you’re very uninformed. Islam is not the fastest growing religion in the world – that is a lie perpetuated by Muslims and ignorant Liberals who hate God. There are over 2 Billion self-identified Christians in the world and approximately 30 million newly self-identified Christians every year. Compare that with 1.2 billion Muslims and 23 million annual converts to Islam. Why does Islam prosper in third world countries and not in places like America? Because in the third world, Muslims cut off infidel’s arms, stone infidels, dip infidels in 55 gallon drums of acid, or push infidels off 2nd story roof tops with their hands bound if they refuse to convert to Islam. So you think such barbarity demonstrates that Muslims stand for something, huh? You must have a very depraved mind.

      I’m not quite sure how you misconstrue the practice of using restraint as standing for nothing. Jesus is not weak, he is meek. Get a dictionary and learn the difference. Better yet, read the Bible and learn about the incredible restraint God used when he came to earth as Jesus and was dealing with ignoramuses who insulted him. Can you imagine the expression on those people’s faces when they died and realized that Jesus, whom they had mocked and ridiculed, truly is the Son of God? I hope you don’t ever have that expression on your face.

      Christianity is not about Christians telling non-believers to stop offending God, Christianity is about Christians telling non-believers that they don’t have to go to Hell because God made a way for them to be perfect in his sight through Jesus. If someone like you thinks I stand for nothing because I won’t get violent when I see an idiot defiling an idol, oh well, I just don’t care. Quite frankly, when I see so-called artists sullying idols or graven images of Jesus, it doesn’t bother me unless my tax dollars are being used. I don’t pray to idols, I pray to Jesus in Heaven.

      As far as Jesus’ return is concerned, based on studying the Bible, I think his return will be very, very soon. A lot of Christians, including myself, are astounded by how fast Biblical prophecies, about the times that precede Jesus’ return, are being fulfilled right before our eyes. I don’t think the world will have to wait much longer to see that Jesus will keep his promise about returning to earth.

      Nutthugger, don’t get me wrong, because part of me would like nothing more than to beat the living crap out of someone like you. Another part of me has pity on you, because I realize that your stunted EQ and sadomasochistic tendencies are no doubt the result of being abused as a child and/or tormented mercilessly in school. At any rate, regardless of what caused you to develop such a repulsive personality, I can guarantee that if we were talking face to face, you wouldn’t be such a provocative little punk.

      If someone were to ever come for my family, be assured they would regret the day they had been born. God knows that one of my weaknesses is not being able to turn the other cheek gracefully and I have faith that he would never allow me to be tempted in that area more than I can bear (that’s in the Bible too – 1 Cor 10:13). If someone were to come for your family, I’m sure you would send them a really nasty email and then hope they wouldn’t find you cowering behind your computer.

      I’m kind of curious… how exactly do you know what’s right and wrong, how exactly is that already within us? I’m assuming you believe you’re nothing more than a slime-ball, who is descended from other slime-balls that once slithered out of a primordial stew, is that correct? Who’s morality are you borrowing to determine what is right and wrong when existence, for you, is nothing more than happenstance?

      As a Christian, I am deeply offended by this utterly absurd remark; and this woman should publicly apologize to all Christians.

      I can’t believe my eyes and ears. Political correctness is just a nice term for sugar coated wickedness. The devil has those people and they don’t even know it. If someone’s words or beliefs offend someone, so be it. People are entitled to believe what they want. I am a believer in Jesus Christ the Son of God, sinful though I am, yet I have sat and listened to the viewpoints of a professed atheist for 2-3 hours. I don’t apologize for my beliefs, nor do I expect others to apologize for theirs. If someone don’t want to be offended, then they had better board up their house, sound proof it, bar the doors and never go outside or listen to the radio or tv. Why don’t those big babies just shut up and grow up. Their political correctness is an offense to mankind, to America, to God and to themselves. I would say more but I need to go puke.
