Protesters and Supporters of Allen West Clash at Town Hall, Resulting in Physical Confrontation

We’ve already reported to you how Rep. Allen West, when confronted with a transparent ‘gotcha’ question, pushed back hard on the questioner in a town hall today. But what you probably didn‘t know is that the story doesn’t end there – as it turns out, the town hall in question quickly degenerated into a very tense situation, with security escorting several protesters out, shouting, and a few blows both from supporters of Congressman West, and from the protesters themselves.

Biz Pac Review has no less than three videos depicting various stages of the confrontation. First, there’s a video depicting protesters being thrown out, described by Biz Pac Review this way:

A half dozen officers from the Boca Raton police department were on hand to run interference between West supporters and those who West said were hired by “the San Francisco billionaire” from the Credo SuperPAC but the real scuffles (and yes, I mean plural ) began, as they often do, during the audience question period where a woman interrupted the Congressman to argue her point on gay marriage. When approached by West’s security, the anti- West crowd began to loudly complain about the security team’s tactics, calling them storm troopers and accusing them of “Gestapo-like” behavior.

As you’ll see from the video, “gestapo-like” might be a bit of a stretch. Moreover, as West himself explained, he wasn’t employing security in that manner out of fear for his own personal safety (a lieutenant colonel in the army doesn’t have a lot to fear from a disorganized mob), but just to prevent another Gabby Giffords situation from happening.

Ironically enough, West was so unafraid to engage in dialogue with the protesters that he engaged one or two of them in long one-on-one conversations, and good naturedly swatted down the ones that only came to scream at him. Examples of both exchanges were captured in this video, where West responded to a questioner who accused him of having no solutions with the line, “Put me in charge of this country and I’ll show you solutions.”

Unfortunately, however, these exchanges turned out to be foreplay for a particularly nasty verbal and physical exchange which occurred as West was mingling with the individual participants. BizPacReview sums up the incident this way:

Not one to back down from a fight, West said, as he was surrounded, “I’m gonna stand right here.”

The words became physical when a West supporter with a cane responded to a woman who used profanity toward a man by shoving her and threatening to hit her with the cane. Police were around, but did not act forcefully with any of the people attending. One man, an anti-West protester, gently bumped the BPR camera person twice, purposely trying to intimidate.

In the interests of fairness, one must note that West’s supporters behaved just as disruptively in this final exchange as did his detractors. However, one person at least managed to do nothing whatsoever untoward or embarrassing throughout this process, and that was Allen West himself. Kudos to the Congressman, considering how awkward this entire town hall was.

      Th young lady was losing the argument between herself and an older gentleman, so she cursed at him and shoved him. I would have threatened her with my cane, too. When Liberals start to lose, they always turn to cursing and violence. We have a right to defend ourselves.

      The truth is West left the service honorably and with full benefits. He was reprimanded for an Article 15 infringment (Nonjudicial punishment (NJP) refers to certain limited punishments which can be awarded for minor disciplinary offenses by a commanding officer or officer in charge to members of his/her command). He interrogated a terrorist collaborator that had information on a suspected ambush on his men. West got the information from the collaborator by discharging his service pistol next to the collaborator’s head and prevented the ambush from taking place. West -of his own volition- went to his superiors IMMEDIATELY after the incident for disciplinary action. He didn’t wait to be “investigated”.

      But the truth isn‘t what ROSIE’s concerned with..it’s slander..so she offers ” He was investigated for violating Articles 128 (Assault) and 134 (General Article)”. Investigating for and actually being charged for something are two very different things. But again..it‘s the smearing that’s important to ROSIE..not the truth. Nor are the lives West saved by questioning the collaborator. After all..according to ROSIE’s beloved MSNBC..we shouldn’t be calling our armed forces “heroes” anyway.

      When a friend of mine was small, his brother was being beaten by a bully. The family dog came in to protect the boy and the local law officials said that the dog was in the wrong. (What’s wrong with that story?)
      My hat is off to the old lady (no disrepect meant) but she could have gotten in trouble if she used the cane; she should have handed in to her husband to use as protection/intimidation. Otherwise she would appear as the aggressor. (I don’t know how many times a day I say “This country is nuts!”)

      @Avengerk Let’s highlight your diversion to see what it is. You claim to be an Australian immigrant, so perhaps you aren’t familiar with the UCMJ. West’s prisoner abuse came to light because another soldier complained about the command attitude and filed a complaint. His abuses were reported as an example and he was investigated. Since the military hates to send its own for punishment, they gave him the least onorous punishment possible, but he was punished and any non-judicial punishment that is refused automatically leads to court martial. He was lucky enough to have committed his abuses before the Abu Ghraib scandal. Had he committed them a few months later, well, he might have been sent to prison as an example. We’ll never know. You must have a reading comprehension problem, the article says there was no plan to ambush him, there were no weapons, no one was charged with an ambush. West heard a rumor and acted out of fear and when he didn’t get the answers he wanted, he tortured a man who told him a name of another policeman who was investigated and not charged. West ruined his career for an imagined threat, oh, and he allowed his men, four of them, to beat the suspect as long as they didn’t “break bones” or need for “repair”.

      I guess when you are fascist that relies on sensationalist comments and have trouble answering real questions you need to have storm troopers around. West won’t answer tough questions. He repeats a quick one liner then has his people remove someone who has follow up question. When asked for his opinion he constantly says well why don’t you go ask… then he names someone in an attempt to change the subject.

      In the first video he tried to justify running peaceful people out by talking about the Gabby Giffords attack when the person was asking a follow up question to the “why don’t you go ask 41 other states” answer.

      WINEDUDE, LTC West accepted non judicial punishment for his involvement with an enhanced interrogation that he performed without sanction from higher ups. He RETIRED from the Army with full honors and his rank intact. He was not drummed out of the service. Take your lies and go pound salt.

Yes there was an incident where he protected his own men, under his command from a plot to kill them. For that he got a mere fine $5,000. He served for 11 years! He served in Kuwait, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. All the while getting promotions. “He became battalion commander of the 2d Battalion 20th Field Artillery nicknamed ”Deep Strike,” 4th Infantry Division on June 6, 2002. He held this position until his retirement from the army.” Get your facts together. You damn liberals just think that if you say something long enough people will believe it, and the sheeple do. Fortunately this forum is for people who can look up the facts and show your out right lies for what they were. By the way, while West was serving our country, honorably, your obama was out doing drugs with his homeboys, it just didn’t stop the minute he graduated, that is IF he graduated.       @Winedude, He didn’t get drummed out, he put a revolver to the enemy‘s head during a questioning session and threaten to blow his head off if he didn’t tell them what he wanted to know, knowing full well the consequences. That is against US policy in Afghanistan, so he handed in his revolver and he was let go from the Army. He’s a hero to me and to millions. US policy in Afghanistan is killing Soldiers everyday. That’s the way to do things!!

      Allen West was drummed out of the service. Yes, he did receive an Article 15 and had he not accepted the nonjudicial punishment and the $5,000.00 fine, he would have been Court Martialed and quite possibly have gone to prison for what he did. Yes, they let him retire and he did keep his rank but he was asked to go because they didn’t want to embarass him further. But he was a disgrace to the uniform. You can try to poo-poo it and say it wasn’t that bad, but it was. You folks are the ones who aren’t dealing with reality here.

      Why doesn’t West simply answer, “The Answer To That Question Is Above My Pay Grade”. Obama got elected with those kind of answers.

      LTC West retired with full honors and rank. He was not drummed out. Drumming out is the complete removal of rank and honors. LTC West faced non-judical punishment under Article 15, UCMJ. This is not a courts martial. He was found in violating the UCMJ and paid a $5000 fine.

      In our politically correct US Army, his actions during the interrogation of a prisoner was deemed unbecoming. Even 20 years ago, he wouldn’t even been brought up on charges.

      I understand that you have never ordered someone into a situation of possible wounding or death. You haven’t seen your troopers torn apart by rockets, mortors or mines.. You haven’t seen a 19 year old with his testicles blown off by a mine. You haven’t seen someone shot in the head and take 90 minutes to die. Go look a the pictures of the victim of the cannibal in a story on the Blaze. LTC West has seen worse than thant.

      Got any time in uniform, Winedude? I thought not. LTC Allen West made a decision while in contact with the enemy to put his career on the line to prevent any more of his soldiers from being blown to pieces by IEDs, and was given an Article 15 nonjudicial punishment for it by a politically-correct command structure. He honorably retired from the Army afterwards. As a retired LTC myself I would like to think that in a similar situation I and any other military officer would put the welfare of my troops ahead of my own career. The Iraqi jihadi in question was not harmed in any way, only intimidated into revealing the location of an IED factory. If you want to know how LTC West is perceived by actual soldiers, ask anyone in the battalion he commanded what they thought of him as a leader… They think he walked on water. His retirement was the Army‘s loss and south Florida’s gain, because the Florida citizens in his district have a man of honor and integrity to represent them in the U.S. House.

      Please explain to me why you are so focused on his Article 15, or, specifically, Articles 128 (Assault) and 134 (General Article). As Article 134 says, it is a General Article….basically a “catch all”. If you can’t be charged with any other article, Article 134 covers it.
      I can’t understand anyone who would not do everything in their power, short of murder, to protect himself and the lives of his troops. But, since you are so adamant about condemning Col. West for his interrogation style, I guess you would be that one person.
      But help me understand how shooting a gun next to an enemy insurgents head is in any way worse than the techniques commonly used in the Middle East. Such as: pulling teeth with pain meds, hanging you by your arms until your shoulders dislocate, shoving a water hose up someone’s rectum, then pulling it out creating a vacuum designed to pull their intestines out, or just plain old cutting someone’s head off with a dull knife.
      I guess in your little utopia, these things do not happen. However, in the world Col. West and so many others of us have lived in, these things are everyday life in the Middle East. And doing this, knowing he would end his career…..I guess his troops meant more to him than his career.
      So, until you walk in the boots myself and other veterans have walked in……enjoy your right to free speech, no matter how it makes you sound.

      I can assure you since I have many, many experiences involving investigations regarding Article 128, (Assault) that a mere investigation does not mean that he is guilty of the crime. Had the investigation resulted in an actual final charge of Assault he would not have been offered an Article 15. The Iraqi officer in question was verbally threatened and lead to believe that the end of his life was coming, but received no physical harm. West got the information that he was seeking and was able to avoid the ambush that saved the lives of a number of his troops. Why don’t you look up the names of his assigned troops at the time, then contact their families so that you can personally inform them that a number of their collective family members should have died, or been horribly maimed so that so that this horrible, horrible intimidating interrogation. Its of course on the right thing to do, since they live because LTC West is such a war criminal. I challenge you to get off your dead whining ass and do what has to be the right thing in your mind.

      @Bunnyhammer I don’t condone torture, neither did George Washington who set the policy for the next two hundred years. The Bush Administration bent over backwards, sideways and forwards to create bogus memos that allowed torture. A number of generals left the service rather than carry out these orders. Read “The Dark Side” by Jane Mayer. The New York Times article makes it pretty clear that no evidence of this conspiracy was ever found. The man West tortured was trying to save his life. He said what he needed to make it stop. He was released uncharged and so was the man he named. The man had swellings but no bruises immediately after the torture session. I’m sure there were bruises later. West ruined his career over nothing. It is an indicator of his character. He has a thin-skin and when he doesn’t get his way, he bullies people and makes wild accusations of threats to “others” that he must protect. He disgraced his uniform and he did it for an imaginary threat. Sort of like naming 79-81 Communists in Congress or having a disagreeing questioner removed from your town hall. He’s a dangerous thug.

    Must I remind you (Mr West) and the sheeple that you voted to support the NDAA, the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act (propaganda bill), Patriot Act, CISPA, the extension of government subsidized artificial student loan interest rates, Payroll Tax extension, 2012 Appropriation Act that spent more than revenues, Balanced Budget Amendment that did not have any caps or limits on spending, opening up the potential for unlimited tax hikes (to balance the budget of course), the Budget Control Act that gave us the useless and dangerous Super Committee, the dog and pony Debt Ceiling Increase bill that gave BHO and company the ability to increase the debt limit through this year, and he voted against the Indefinate Military Detention provision for American citizens.

    Sorry, just because he can talk a good game does not mean he is what he professes to be. With a Constitutional conservative like this, we might as well toss the entire Constitution as it means nothing.

They will place us deeper and deeper into debt until we will never be able to recover and once we are broke they will step in with their government sponsored entitlement programs in order to save the country. The problem is it won’t be our Republic they will be saving, it will be their it will be the United Socialist States of America.

    They weren’t ready when the stock market crashed and we had to be bailed out, but they used it as an opportunity to undermine our dollar. Then came the socialist programs that supposedly bailed us out of the depression, but actually only slowed our growth as a nation.

      Just like in a one on one conversation, once one person begins to yell, the other person/persons stop listening to the content of the words and focus instead on the destabilized behavior, thus whatever the message expressed, even if it has merit, loses whatever value it may have held as it becomes SECONDARY to the behavior.

      As the message drops to second place, the behavior, which is often rude, disruptive and sometimes violent is what sticks in the mind of observers. It is this which is remembered, and not “the message”, leaving the actors wondering why their group is perceived in a negative light when the questions they posit may have such merit.

      He DID answer the question. He does not support gay marriage. He believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. He points out that the people in 41 states believe the same.
      Now….what more would a continued exchange with this woman produced ? Nothing.
      She didn’t like the answer (which she knew before asking the question) and at that point it was obvious she was only there to disrupt. She was allowed to ask her question and was given an answer. That is how a town hall is supposed to work. It is NOT a debate, it is not a stage for arguments.
      Once it degraded into being disruptive, it was time for her to leave. Period.

      I hate that he voted for NDAA too. But I doubt he fully understands what he did by voting for it. He did give it to a Commie POS and i for the life of me cannot understand why. He is a Patriot and a good man. But good men can be fooled too….

      Fake conservatives continuously erode the constitution as well as their comrades on the left. People in this country have been dumbed down so effectively that our Republic’s demise is for certain. Romney or Obama, it doesn’t matter. The continuity of agenda will continue. They take tyranny, wrap it in a flag, everyone salutes it and follows it down the rabbit hole.This describes several people even on this site. It‘s pathetic people can’t pay respect to our founders and be educated and responsible for their cheerleader votes. We have a culture of apathetic idiots running around thinking this is Disneyland, but when it finally falls they will have no one to blame but each other, much like they do now.

      mrsuperpat, Some folks just get all juicy in their nether regions when folks like West Or Newt “Slam It To The Leftist.“ They are blind when the same ”Heroes” are the ones enabling the leftist.
