Not sure who Robert Reilly is? You will be soon.
Readers, meet Bob. Bob, meet the readers. Folks, Bob here is a Democratic Assemblyman from New York running for re-election. While giving a recent campaign speech, Bob recounted a conversation he had with a teenager with cerebral palsy. Except he did more than just recount it — he imitated the disabled boy’s delivery:
To be fair, Bob is mostly likely going for dramatic effect. But the story meant to supplement his speech has now taken it over.

He really acts like he wants to cut tax’s,the anger he obviously felt about cutting was the only thing that woke him up,and then he stood there when done and looked at someone as if to say “do I really have to talk to these idiots”ofcourse if they were Democrats he was talking to I can understand that.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 11:58amThere was no point to his imitating the boy. It’s clear he was going for pathos but in doing so he diminished the boy by making an object of his disability rather than elevating him as a person who HAS a disability. Dems don’t see people as much as they see tools for their own political ends.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 11:54amI don’t think that was necessary! He had to say it normally anyway so what was the point of imitating the kid? Jut stating that he had cerebral palsy was effective enough. Demonstrating it wasn’t helpful.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 11:52amI can’t stand democrats, but I don‘t think this guy’s intent was to make fun of the kid–a bit insensitive by showing poor judgement. His point would have been well-made without the imitation and kept the audience’s attention on his topic and not his ill-conceived delivery.

Posted on October 28, 2010 at 11:49amGiven the lack of enthusiasm and eloquence in his preamble, the only part that caught my attention was his dramatic representation. He used it to effect and prefaced it with an explanation and an acknowledgement that it may be misunderstood as disrespect, when none was intended.
His follow-up comments seemed to indicate that he’s all about taxing so that people like Kyle will be taken care of by the government. Overall, his only crime seemed to be a lack of enthusiasm and public speaking ability.

But it is funny that I am reading so many comments about double standards when we do the same thing! Why hang the dude for an error in judgment? Especially when we see the left doing the same exact thing to us over and over. Don’t sink to their level! Old Bob damned himself more by his talk about taxes then he did by trying to elicit an emotional response by imitating a handicapped child. There are enough real issues to get incensed over, why waste time on this?

Posted on October 29, 2010 at 1:17amI have adopted handicapped children and this Washington agenda frankly scares the hell out of me. I know the only way they will be cared for after I am gone is if the economy is booming. I do not believe for a moment Obama and the Progressives have a big heart. I believe if the Democrats are given their way they will “death panel” them as useless. It is only when the economy is growing and there is excess wealth that the elderly and disabled are cared for. Anyone that thinks for a moment that the progressives have their best interests at heart is going to be sadly mistaken. Anyone on Social Security or any form of disability should be praying for a Republican victory now and in 2012.

Back in his day imitating someone with disabilites probably didn’t mean all that much. now we are hyper sensitive. well let me rephrase that. alot of people are hyper sensitive, i’m like screw it. it wasn’t even a good impression. still sounded like an old man. we need the guy from police academy, he could probably do it way better.
