Imam: Ground Zero Mosque Won’t Be Stopped

In a New York Times editorial Tuesday, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, chairman of the Cordoba Initiative, acknowledged widespread “furor” in America over plans to build a mosque just feet from Ground Zero, but insists
that the project will proceed as planned. ”I am convinced that it is the right thing to do for many reasons,” he wrote.
Up until now, Rauf has largely been silent on the controversy surrounding the project. He has been out of the United States for the past two months, traveling on a U.S. State Department-sponsored talking circuit about religious tolerance and cooperation. In his editorial, Rauf said that he and “nearly everyone” he met on his trip had “been awed by how inflamed and emotional the issue of the proposed community center has become.”
“The level of attention reflects the degree to which people care about the very American values under debate: recognition of the rights of others, tolerance and freedom of worship,” Rauf wrote. ”We are proceeding with the community center, Cordoba House. More important, we are doing so with the support of the downtown community, government at all levels and leaders from across the religious spectrum, who will be our partners. I am convinced that it is the right thing to do for many reasons.”
Rauf went on to praise President Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for their support of the project. ”Their statements sent a powerful message about what America stands for, and will be remembered as a milestone in improving American-Muslim relations.”
The imam also acknowledged some critics‘ calls for transparency in the project’s funding. “I do not underestimate the challenges that will be involved in bringing our work to completion” he wrote. “I know there will be interest in our financing, and so we will clearly identify all of our financial backers.”
In the end, as Rauf noted, the greatest divisions surrounding the project are among those who view the project as an affront to the memories of those who lost their lives in the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001. However, the imam remains determined to move forward with the project.
After claiming that he is “very sensitive to the feelings” of 9/11 survivors and family members, Rauf said they will continue to “seek the support of those families” as they finalize construction plans. ”Our objective has always been to make this a center for unification and healing,” he concludes.
The most recent public opinion polls have found that nearly two-thirds of New Yorkers believe Muslims have a right to build the Cordoba mosque, but a majority of city residents would prefer the mosque be moved to a location farther from Ground Zero.
With the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks just days away, controversy will likely only continue to grow. Rallies for and against the mosque are set for Saturday in New York, to be held after a memorial ceremony at Ground Zero.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 7:33amThis mosque will become a pilgrimage site for muslims around the world to visit and see for themselves the place where islam had its first victory on American soil. It will become the rallying point for endless grievance demonstrations and marches. It will be the go to place for our media when they want the “official” muslim opinion on something. Overtime more demands for respect and tolerance will be made as areas around the mosque become off limits for things that offend muslims. All the charitable work, brotherhood bs, and outreach will be deception and subversion since that is the assigned task of muslims living in a non muslim country. Check out Italy, France, and the Netherlands for the model.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 6:11amThis is a tough one. One must wonder what motivates the building of this mosque. When we look at countries that are primarily Muslim and what their laws are regarding other faiths like Christians and Jews, we see a double standard. Could a structure in ANY of these countries that was based on a non-Muslim faith be built?
But in the end, once again, I am reminded that the way to deal with this structure is not to burn it down or to commit acts of vandalism there is a better way. We just have to believe in that way.

Report Post »Why don’t you take a minute to think about what “too stupid to live” is? These people scream bloody murder (indeed are ready to commit mass murder) at the tiniest perceived slight of their religion, demanding exquisite sensitivity towards their feelings at all times whilst refusing to be sensitive to the feelings of the 911 victims families and indeed over 70% of Americans, who are offended by this proposed Mosque. Of course we know they are not all that way. But the bad ones are calling the shots and the good ones are not effectively countering them.. This mosque is going to be deemed a Jihad victory and celebrated as such as Rauf knows damn well. If you are smart, you don’t “tolerate” those sworn to destroy you. Get off your sanctimonious PC high horse. Miss Taha and others may be less adroit with verbiage than you are but they happen to see what is really going on in the world. You seem determined to remain unaware of a very real threat. There are of red flags and sirens all over this thing. If we don’t wake up in the face of all the danger signals then perhaps we actually are too stupid to live. Like I’ve said before on this blog; I’m not afraid of what they can do to us, but of what political correctness may have already done to us.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 8:51pmWith all due respect Solvitur, there are two clauses in the First Amendment relating to religion. The first is the establishment clause and the second is the free exercise clause. And in fact the free exercise clause does exactly focus on the freedom to worship. No one is rewriting the Constitution on that issue; it is plain as day in the text itself.
The First Amendment reads as follows “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 2:12pmRauf has officially declared war upon America on behalf of Islam. Rauf deceitfully claims he is pleased to be an American, then turns right around and slaps America across her face.
One of many critical aspects of being an American is respecting the will of our peoples. Currently, 80% or more of Americans are adamantly opposed to Islam building a victory mosque atop of Ground Zero. This is the will of our peoples.
Rauf is defying the will of our peoples. He is not an American. He is slapping Lady Liberty across her face then exclaiming, “Islam will build our victory mosque whether you like this or not.” His is an act to divide our nation, an act to create acrimony, an act to undermine and subvert both our American way of life and our American system of government.
Subversion of our American way of life, subversion of our system of government, is an act of war when committed by a foreigner. If you, the reader, accept Rauf is an American, then his is an act of treason.
I respect and fiercely defend the will of our peoples whether I agree or not. I am a patriotic American.

Yes, clearly that is why we hold referendums to determine whether or not to uphold the Constitution. You also seem to think that true Americans accept the majority view of everything–I am wondering how this usually works out. By the way, what majority of the country supported the end of slavery? Or of segregation? What majority prevented the American Indians from being exterminated?
Okpulot concludes on a low note: “I respect and fiercely defend the will of our peoples whether I agree or not. I am a patriotic American.”
Clearly I misunderstand the concept of American freedom. I did not realize that it meant surrendering one’s own opinion when others disagree. I was under the impression that it meant that we are allowed to think for ourselves and say what we believe and worship in the way that we feel is best. Okpulot, I would like you to promise that if you see another poll that claims the majority of Americans have changed their minds, you will immediately think differently and defer to whatever the majority believes.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 3:31pmI am always amused by left liberal socialist Mobius strip pretzel logic, a type of deceitfully twisted logic employed to destroy our American way of life.
A dull pencil up there goes on about our Constitution rules supreme over our America. His is a stereotypical left liberal socialist lie, as are those lies of Obama spewed daily.
We the people rule our nation. The will of our peoples rule our America. If we the people do not rule, there would not be amendments to our Constitution, there would not be our Bill of Rights. We the people decide how our Constitution should read. We the people write our living document, our Constitution.
Left liberal pencil neck geeks try to fool us into believing their twisted version of our Constitution rules America, not we the people. Those socialist boys, bent upon turning our proud nation into a welfare nation populated by left liberals smoking pot in the back of used book stores, those boys work at both squashing and quashing us through claims we the people do not rule our nation.
We the people vote, we the majority rule. We the people elected representatives to do the will of our peoples. We the people decide what is constitutional and what is not.
Constitutional or not, we the people decide what will be allowed or not allowed through our court of public opinion. We the people decide what is moral and what is not moral through our court of societal mores. We the people rule America. Our will, the will of we the peoples, rules.
Never fall for this left liberal lie we the people are not in charge of our lives and our America. Left liberals will twist and pervert our Constitution to deceive us, to enslave us. We are never to be fooled into blind obedience of our Constitution by pencil neck geek left liberal socialists whose only intent is to inflict a Marxist based socialist tyranny upon our home, America.
We the people will decide if a victory mosque will be shamefully built atop our sacred Ground Zero.
Will of our peoples is no such insulting mosque will be built as a claim over victory over America.
We the people rule. This is our America. We are patriots who fiercely defend our home, America.

My frightful expectation is Islam will detonate a thermonuclear weapon on Capitol Hill sometime in the future. This is the goal of Islam. Last attack, 9/11, was aimed at our financial center, our White House and our Pentagon. This is clear Islam intends to decapitate America.
Extreme effort is made by a lot of nations to keep control of nuclear weapons and to prevent select Islamic countries from coming into possession of nuclear weapons. Reason for this is most nations have a real and true fear Islam will use one or more nuclear weapons against Western nations.
Islam is working hard at acquiring nuclear weapons to use for terrorism. This is a truth all know.
Our America becoming sissified is a certain guarantee our government will be taken out by an Islamic nuclear attack upon our nation. Our remaining military will retaliate by nuking the entire Mideast, this could very well lead to worldwide nuclear war.
Too many are unaware the very existence of our Earth and all living things are threatened by Islam.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 3:56amThe Islamic doctrine of deception, taqiyya. If a Muslims lips are moving, he is probably practicing his taqiyya. The muslim wants your property, your money, and the end of your life.
The Verse of the Sword from the koran: 9:5. Then when the Sacred Months (the 1st, 7th, 11th, and 12th months of the Islamic calendar) have passed, then kill the Mushrikun {unbelievers} wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush. But if they repent and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat {the Islamic ritual prayers}), and give Zakat {alms}, then leave their way free. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
9:29. Fight against those who believe not in Allah, nor in the Last Day, nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islam) among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
I’m not buying anything that the muslims are saying. Their own doctrine dictates that they are required to subdue us. Don’t people understand – if a person is following the muslim faith they are required to either subdue us or kill us if they cannot bring us into submission. If they don’t follow these rules then they will go to their version of hell. There are no peaceful muslims, if they‘re peaceful then they’re not following their religious doctrine and then they themselves are considered traitors to their faith and that carries a far worse penalty than to any of us non-believers.
I don’t hate them. They are free to practice their “religion” but by doing so their own religion requires they be allowed their own laws and rules and that is not in keeping with our constitution. There is a right to religious freedom in this country until it infringes on others rights and sharia law which muslims practice is not in keeping with our constitution. They can practice their religion somewhere else.

They say they are “sensitive to the feelings” yet won’t talk with anyone nor will they consider any kind of compromise. This is a Mosque being built to celebrate what they perceive as a great victory on 9/11, they are not fooling anyone. Why call it the Cordoba house? Why? That alone is a provocation. And saying it is a cultural center is even worse! They are going to have a pool? Really? So little Muslim kids can splash and play at Ground Zero? Will any Jewish or Christians be allowed to use this pool? And this library on the site, is it going to just have texts that promote peace and understanding, or will there be the same Wahhabist texts that drove the 19 to fly those planes into the buildings? We already know that Mohammad was a military leader who conquered and killed. He beheaded his enemies which is why the radicals do it also, to mimic it because Muhammad was their ideal man and they all strive to be like him. You may have worked along side of them, but I suggest that you look into something called Taqiyya and Kitman, allowing deception and outright lies by proponents of Islam against their enemies in their attempts to advance the cause of Islam. We as a country need to wake up to their tactics. They are not like us, and they will tell you that… and that is one thing I do believe when it comes out of their mouth. They do not think like us and they don’t have the same values.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 5:03pmNot fair to bash a religion but we can bash the colinizers from Mexico and Islam. They are taking over parts of Europe because those people are soft. Problem here is we are being softened in preparation for Colinization. This has been going on for most of history…just read a little.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 12:57amI predict the average everyday steel worker (mandatory union member) in NYC will not be interested in having his name associated with the building of this mosque and will refuse to work on it…
The Imam brings in non-union labor…
The union leaders try to stop their members from striking the site…
The union members revolt and the united steel workers split from the AFL-CIO by bringing down the corrupt leadership…
The mosque gets bogged down by lack of progress, goes massively over budget, and the shell gets imploded a couple of years later to make space for a new Needless Markup super store.
I can dream can’t I?

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 7:06amTraditional Muslims who understand the Quran and the hadith believe that sharia (Islamic law) expresses the highest and best goals for all societies. It is the will of Allah.
But is Islam just in its laws that Muhammad himself practiced and invented?
Here’s ten reasons why sharia is bad for all societies, as noted by the American Thinker (and elsewhere). http://www.americanthinker.com/2005/08/top_ten_reasons_why_sharia_is.html
Like the Christians, reformation is needed.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 10:18amThe terrorists have won. Their strategy has worked. We’ve been “muzzled” by the Muslims. They are the “bullies in the schoolyard”. They’ve conditioned our PC minds into fear and gutlessness.

Posted on September 8, 2010 at 10:36amI am not exactly sure what you are talking about Stuck_in_CA. How exactly are you muzzled? As much as you would like to sit around and back the PC strawman, this is not ultimately an issue of “political; correctness.” It is, as so many have said, an issue of the right to worship and the recognition that public pressure should not be brought to bear against a minority group who wishes to practice their religion in an old Burlington Coat Factory building in the most diverse and dynamic city in the world.
Play the victim if you like–at best it is a harmless farce. You are not muzzled by terrorists, nor by the “Progressives” that you are so afraid of. If anything, you are muzzled by your inability to look past the your silly slogans and to understand what is really at stake in this issue.
So please, share you opnion however you would like, but try to refrain from such silly whining. It’s distracting to the adults.
