NY Prep Schools Ban Students from Announcing Acceptance Into Ivy League Schools… to Protect Other Students

New York Prep Schools Ban Students from Saying They Got Into Ivy League SchoolsNEW YORK (NewsCore)– New York prep schools are instituting dress codes and Facebook guidelines barring excited seniors from broadcasting their acceptance to top-tier colleges because it may hurt the feelings of classmates who were unsuccessful.

At the hypercompetitive Horace Mann School, students are not permitted to wear college apparel, including status Ivy League sweatshirts, on campus until after May 1, when most students have settled on what school they will attend.

And at the Packer Collegiate Institute, students are instructed not to update Facebook with university news until after school lets out.

At the private Calhoun School, seniors have a weekly class with the college guidance counselor, in which they discuss “the appropriate way to share news of acceptance,” said Sarah Tarrant, director of college counseling.

“The weekly conversation reins in kids who might run around yelling, ‘I got in! I got in!’”

The city’s selective public high schools are also implementing rules to save the egos of students forced to attend “safety schools.”

“It can be bad and it can get weird,” said Darby McHugh, college coordinator at Bronx High School of Science.

“We send a notice out to all faculty telling them, ‘Please don’t congratulate students in public, no high fives, no hugging, and please be sensitive so that if you see someone crying, you refer them to the college-adviser office immediately.’”

Not everyone agreed with the move, however, with Dean Skarlis, president of the College Advisor of New York, saying, “Kids need to experience disappointment. We coddle them a little too much.

“At some point, they won’t get a job, or they’ll get fired. If I were head of a school, I would shy away from that sort of policy.”

Waaaah. These are the useful tools of the Left . Protected from the realities of life. Unable to bear criticism or failure. Hating ” competition.” That is why we see all of the little arrogant Lefties who comment here. They are brainwashed and denied the realities of survival of the fittest. That is why they love a Big Brother to protect them from life’s difficulties . Unfortunately, Big Brother comes with a whole set of difficulties starting with ” no individual rights.“ These are the ”anti-capitlaists ” hoodie wearing zombies who will be marching in the brainwashed crowds of Occupiers…. blindly MIC checking the parroted phrases of Big Brother …now repeat after me …repeat after me…

@barber2 “These are the useful tools of the Left” So you actually think the top tier prep schools in NYC are controlled and/or driven by the left. You think the parents of the kids attending these schools are left liberals. This and other ideological driven misunderstandings and misrepresentations that would seem to influence your thinking is exactly why these types of blogs, biased reports, and associated absurd posts are nothing more than laughable.

Jrook–Sorry to the one to clue you in, but I went a very prestigious prep school and the truth is that the limousine liberals have taken over these venerable institutions just as they have colleges. Do you really think all rich people are conservative and all poor ones are liberal? Do you think all cats are girls and all dogs are boys, too?

Spread the wealth – er I mean grades and then you won’t have this problem. Can you imagine poor Jack who has partied every night and just barley passed and his friend Fred worked on the books each night and how bad Jack is going to feel when he finds out about Fred getting invited to Harved. Colleges need to feel sympthy for kids that were wealthy and able to party and visit the best whores money could buy. Look at all the jobs Jack was providing to the community. Give at least one of Freds grades to Jack.

I am teaching my 3 boys to be “adequate” in life – that way they are neither let up or let down in life. They have been instructed to approach their peers and give an appropriate response like “have an adequate day”. My little snowflakes will be adequately equipped for life!

FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!!!!! It is being ripped out of your grasp. Little by little, the ability to freely express yourself is being taken away. Seriously…….you can‘t openly celebrate good news in public until the school tells you it’s o.k. Question…..what does the school do if a person gives a high five or a hug before the acceptable date? What happens if emotions get the best of you and you crack a smile and jump a little? What if someone who didn’t get accepted sees you and turns you in? What will they do to you? Reprimand? Community service? How about jail time for the most serious offender. GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!!

WOW, for years these types of schools have touted their success in getting their students into the most selective schools in the country. Our daughters went to a highly respected private independent school and every year the school puts out a list of the schools their students were accepted at in the local newspaper. The school had a chalk board in the hallway and they would list student‘s acceptances announcing student’s name and school they got into on a daily basis. Our daughters have all graduated and all have been accepted into top colleges. I am calling today parents of current students to see if they have changed their policy regarding sharing where they have been accepted. We were told when we first looked at the school that the school is for leaders and it promotes critical thinking. Leaders are successful and should not be told to hid their accomplishments.

@horsecrazy I send my 13 year old to a highly regarded private school, I am not rich, I work 3 jobs to send him there because he is smart and I know he will come out of that school ready to take on the world. This school teaches kids to be leaders, not followers or whiners. They teach their kids to work hard to succeed and that it is your responsibility to acheive not to whine and you will be taken care of. His best friend goes to our local middle school and actually had a substitute teacher break the class into groups of kids with divorced parents, single parents, adopted kids, immigrants etc. I am glad I am working my ass off so he is not indoctrinated by some liberal thinker.

This is so sad. I remember back 20 odd years ago when I was a senior. We celebrated the acceptances of each other. Yes there was sadness if we were rejected from a school where someone else was accepted to, but that’s life. It helped teach me to deal with reality.

We are setting our kids up for not being able to handle the reality of our world. It’s almost as if these prep school administrators are part of the Marxist/socialist movement and getting these kids ready to start the mantra of everything being “fair.” I see future occupiers in the making.

I went to a community school and i worked my butt off to pay for it and it led me to a good honest job in a good company… it allowed me to get married and start a family and have a decent home… and they are crying because someone else got their spot…
these teachers and administrators are training millions of kids to be freaking cry babies…look kids if you reach a wall you knock it down or go over it… you dont fall at the base an cry… thats not how life works… the more we teach these kids to be babies the more our society will weaken…its a jungle out there… and the lions are going to eat the weak… sorry if thats too harsh… just a fact.

You know, when I applied to college, I had received two acceptances from schools with rolling admission before anybody had received early decision acceptances. That was all the way back in December or November. Under this rule I couldn’t spread the news for over half a year.

That’s one of the problems….we bring in hundreds of thousands of people who have done nothing but happened to be in the right country at the right time. The flavor of the month changes from time to time, but one thing remains constant – the fact that many of those we bring in have done nothing to earn the right except to breath in a country that we feel is worse that ours. For many life in America was offered to them – the DNA that made America great has been so watered down it’s hardly detectable any more.
In this America you can no longer assume that America will rise above cause it’s in our DNA – that has been purposely taken away from us by our Government actively seeking to bring those who disagree with our founding principles into this country in large numbers.
