NY Russian Immigrants Flock to GOP, Say Today‘s Democratic Party Too ’Socialistic’

Many immigrants from the old Soviet Union made a home for themselves in the so-called “red borough” of Staten Island, N.Y. But despite New York’s traditionally Democrat-blue past, many are reportedly flocking to the Republican Party today, claiming that the national Decmorats’ “socialistic” policies remind them too much of Mother Russia’s top-down oligarchy they fled from in the past.
Staten Island Real-Time News reports:
Businessman Arkadiy Fridman said that the newly formed Citizens Magazine Business Club, a confederation of more than 50 Russian-owned businesses here and in Brooklyn, has aligned itself with the Molinari Republican Club (MRC) in an effort to increase the Russian community’s political and economic clout. …
“We decided we had to support this club,” said Fridman, a former Soviet Army officer who came to the United States in 1992. “They are very close to our political and business vision.”
In the wake of the national GOP’s big wins this year, when the party took back control of the House, Republicans everywhere are more confident that their bedrock message of smaller government and lower taxes will resonate with American voters.
Fridman said that the Democrats “are going in an absolutely different direction,“ focusing on ”income redistribution” and rich-versus-poor “class war.”
“It’s too socialistic,” said Fridman, head of the non-profit Staten Island Community Center and president of Citizens Magazine, a public affairs publication. “It’s very painful for us to see.”
The Citizens Club, formed earlier this month, looks to support and grow local businesses here; introduce Russian firms to the borough’s existing business and political communities, and promote Russian community representatives to serve in elected office.
Reflecting the American Dream ideal that has drawn immigrants to the United States since the county’s founding, the SI Real-Time News says that many Russians are “grateful” for America’s freedoms and want to show it.
Yevgeniy Lvovskiy, of the ZHL Group development firm, said that many Russians here also are looking to break ethnic stereotypes that paint Russia as being all about “Siberia, beer and vodka.”
“We are looking for an opportunity to prove ourselves,” said Lvovskiy, who came to the United States in 1999. “If you work hard, and do the right thing, you get rewarded. We want to show people we are normal.”
It’s that self-starting stance, he said, that makes Russians here more in line with GOP orthodoxy.
So what do local Democrats have to say about this Big Brother-esque critique of their party? Democratic state Sen. Diana Savino said that while she understands Russians’ natural aversion to big government, she thinks such criticism of her party is off-base, calling any comparison between the Democratic Party and Soviet-era Russia “absurd.”

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 2:42amTruth be told. You can’t put a name on it yet. There are facets of every type of statist control here. But the similarities are striking enough to conclude that narcissism had a role in naming a few of them. Besides the point anyways. Once you start the progression of govt. it never stops. Therefore energy would be better spent trying to teach the philosophies of control versus debating what to call them. Crap, turd, poop, feces. Doesn’t make a difference.

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 3:37amTry “Reds”.
It‘s the color of the rioters’ flags in Greece.
You could say “Red Guard”, or “Commie”, but those are too long.
No definition needed.
Say “Reds” and up come all the memories: “revolution”, “secret police”, KGB, “arrested”, “dissapeared”, “show trial”, “shot”, “gulag”, “ICBM”, “cold war”, “Molotov coctail”, Stalin, Kruschev, Mao, Kim Il Sung, Chavez, Castro, and “global thermonuclear war”, “Alger Hiss”, “Rosenbergs”, “NORAD”, “SAC”, “mutually assured destruction” and on and on.
I like the movie “War Games” when the computer starts gaming first strikes strategies. My palms sweat.

Not so absurd Senator Savino. The Democrat Party of today, is not the same Party from the JFK era. Socialism defines the Democrat Party in the USA today, even though the Majority of Citizens have told them that don’t want their “stinking” Socialism.
We told them that we didn’t want Obama Care, yet they made it a Law without our consent. Did the Democrats forget that they govern by the consent of People?

Posted on December 27, 2010 at 12:49amRiding the metro after the Glenn Beck 8/28 Rally, I sat next to a Russian immigrant living in D.C. She said she just couldn’t understand how Americans were supporting the socialistic and communistic views of the Democratic party. She talked how she has tried to explain American history to her children and how they are being indoctrinated in the schools. It was very scary hearing this from someone who also told tales of the Russia she fled. The Americans who hear only the liberals need to listen to these immigrants and their stories. They might begin to understand what we conservatives are yelling and screaming about. FOX would do a great service to seek them out and do a televised special report highlighting them.

This story will never make it o the main-stream media because it futher proves that socialism does not work for the citizens but only for those that dictate while in power. GOP, I hope and pray that you are paying attention, we need to be able to trust that you will represent those of us who voted you in. Up to man’s age-old dream — the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order — or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path. We can see it because of beakons of light like Glenn Beck. How I pray that all of America and see it and the majority will not go along with it, and stand up and defend this republic in the ballot box, and vote NO! However, even if that does happen I don’t think that will even stop them from pushing ahead. they have power now in the whitehouse, in the fed courts, and still many senators and congressmen and women. They believe they know best and we cannot decide for ourselves what is good goverment. They need to decide for us because we are fools and racist, and don’t want to give to the poor, or can even decide what to eat that is right.

I have a very close associate that defected from Romania about 22 years ago. We have talked about the state of affairs in this country. He said he has seen all this before. He said to get prepared and ready to hunker down. He said to have plenty of food and guns to protect it and your family. He said money will be useless. The bare essentials will have value. Believe it or not…my Romanian friend said when it hits the fan he is going back to Romania. Imagine that! A man who once lived under the tyranny of communism is willing to risk going back to where he started 22 years ago because he knows what is coming to the USA. I figure he knows of what he speaks since he has seen it before. Hard to believe but true.
