NY Times‘ Bill Keller Accuses Santorum of ’Creeping Up on a Kind of Christian Version of Shariah Law’

Bill Keller (AP)
On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Tuesday, New York Times’ op-ed columnist Bill Keller made a comparison that may infuriate Rick Santorum supporters. While speaking about the Republican race, he dubbed the contender’s statements as nearing a Christian version of Shariah law.
The round-table discussion, which included TIME Magazine editor-at-large Mark Halperin and MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, started with some general insults directed at the GOP field.
“I find…this whole campaign has been one of those little cars that come out in the circus,” Keller said. “One clown comes out and another clown comes out and you can’t believe there are any more clowns to get out. And they keep coming.”
None of the panelists, including hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarboro, jumped in to defend the candidates and Scarborough proceeded to chastise Santorum for his recent attack on John F. Kennedy. Next, a video was shown depicting Santorum discussing freedom of religion and the First Amendment; that’s when the most incendiary comment was uttered.
“Remember earlier in the campaign when Newt Gingrich was worrying everybody about Shariah law — you know — the Muslims were going to impose Shariah law in America?,” Keller rhetorically asked. “Sometimes, Santorum sounds like he’s creeping up on a kind of Christian version of Shariah law.”
The stunning comment didn’t lead one eye to blink on the panel, as the next comments uttered by Scarborough actually praised Keller for bringing up “a good point” (it’s unclear here whether Scarborough was praising the general sentiment or the comment itself).
The host then went on to argue that Santorum is off message and that he shouldn’t be wasting his time touting these issues — especially during a time when the economy is on everyones’ minds.
Watch the discussion, below (around 5:00):
Perhaps FOX News‘ Bill O’Reilly was right last month when he told Santorum, “It’s going to be a national demonization and you’re going to be portrayed as an extremist and some of your views are out of the mainstream according to polls.”

Learn about the “Reichskonkordat”, the treaty between the Vatican and Nazi Germany where you find that Jews who convert to Catholicism were spared, if only briefly, from the concentration camps. History is not on the side of those who suggest that Christianity is fundamentally less violent or extreme in its treatment of non-believers than any other given religion.

Posted on February 28, 2012 at 4:26pmWhy did the Libs get all this fodder to twist and turn? Simple answer: Because Santorum isn’t talking about the real issues like unemploymwnt, the housing market, fiat money and financialization, Fast and Furious, ad infinitum. He gets asked questions about religion and he attempts to answer them, even though it’s a useless cause. His hubris and the left knows it. He gets walked into a corner and proceeds to implode.
Kennedy handled it correctly, Santorum didn’t. The candidates have an opportunity to educate the American public who didn’t learn anything in public schools (by design) about the truth and the finer, but easily understood, points about what is going on, but elect to discuss irrevelent issues like what church they belong to, how much money their opponents are worth, as if it’s evil. As I’ve said before, the Republicans are behind the curve and at every corner get pwnd.
Many many “old time” Democrats are clueless about their party being subjegated to the Progressive socialists. What Republican has discussed this. The Republicans need to be talking to the Democrats, not the choir. Would a real candidate please come forward?

The economy is not in recovery iit is in a a holding pattern waiting for the correction that will surely come (once the Fed is told to stop funneling trillions of w0orthless money into the rickety house of cards that is the current Wall St bubble). None of the core cause of the original crash back in 07/08 have been effectively dealt with only papered over with an extremely expensive and shortsighted band aid. Until the toxic assets are allowed to clear, the housing market sheds it’s back log of inventory and the job picture starts to pridcue between 500k and 1 mil jobs for 12 consectutive months or more can we finally admit to ourselves that we might be on the raod to full recovery…until that happens this mcurreent situation will never improve. Posted on February 28, 2012 at 4:04pmFrom Pruden:
There’s a tiny priest living in Rick Santorum’s trim, toned body, struggling to get out. The rogue priest escaped Sunday and said foolish things.
The candidate most admired for plain speech made it plain and clear that he doesn’t believe in the wall between church and state and doesn’t think much of John F. Kennedy for saying he did.
“I don’t believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute,” he told ABC News. “The idea that church can have no influence or involvement in the operation of the state is absolutely antithetical to the objectives and vision of our country.”
This should cook his goose with conservatives (and everybody else), Catholic and Protestant alike, but it probably won’t. Many voters are as ignorant as Rick Santorum about the plain meaning of the First Amendment. Mr. Santorum, no doubt listening to his inner rogue, says the First Amendment’s guarantee of “the free exercise of religion means bringing everybody, people of faith and no faith, into the public square.”
Indeed it does, and the pope, the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention, all the Methodist and Episcopal bishops, rabbis Orthodox and otherwise, and peaceful imams everywhere have the right to be heard. But none of them has the right, as arbiters of their faith, to compel the president of the United States to make public policy conform to religious doctrine.

Posted on February 28, 2012 at 5:11pmThe problem with “regulating or comtrolling” any religion is that sooner or later the other religion comes to power. Why cant the Government realize that bills like DOMA are unconstitutional. You make laws against things like murder, rape, robbery, they have no business telling me what I can believe. heck that is how the religion of enviromentalism has almost doomed us! They made enviromental religion laws that take away my rights to the persuit of happiness!

Posted on February 28, 2012 at 6:33pmThe Christian extremists here in the US are just begging to open the door for Sharia Law and they don’t even realize it. These idiots want religious war. If you think our country should make laws based upon the bible, then you are no better than the Taliban.

Posted on February 28, 2012 at 6:53pmWow, the atmosphere is thin here today. News flash – ALL western law has it’s origins in the Pentateuch/Torah/Septuagint/Bible. Yes, much has been added to it in the last 5,000 years. If you don’t like it, you have choices: change it, add more to it, LEAVE ALREADY!

But you can bet your bottom dollar he would NEVER criticize Sharia law, especially to a Muslim.
Strange isn’t it that these leftist dregs are full of hate for Christianity, but don’t seem to mind radical Muslim doctrine?
