NY Times: Obama to Expand Use of Executive Power and Bypass Congress More

“We can’t wait.”

That’s the phrase that President Obama has made popular recently. It’s meant as a shot at Congress — a Congress the president believes is slow to act on his policies. The phrase has also been used to justify the president’s increasing using of executive orders and signing statements. And now, the New York Times reports, it’s a phrase we could be hearing a lot more of as the president is looking to expand his use of executive powers.

That might not be too surprising given the president’s recent action. But consider: Obama criticized George W. Bush for his use of executive powers during the last election. The Times explains:

As a senator and presidential candidate, he had criticized George W. Bush for flouting the role of Congress. And during his first two years in the White House, when Democrats controlled Congress, Mr. Obama largely worked through the legislative process to achieve his domestic policy goals.

But increasingly in recent months, the administration has been seeking ways to act without Congress. Branding its unilateral efforts “We Can’t Wait,” a slogan that aides said Mr. Obama coined at that strategy meeting, the White House has rolled out dozens of new policies — on creating jobs for veterans, preventing drug shortages, raising fuel economy standards, curbing domestic violence and more.

Each time, Mr. Obama has emphasized the fact that he is bypassing lawmakers.

“Aides say many more such moves are coming,” the Times adds. “Not just a short-term shift in governing style and a re-election strategy, Mr. Obama’s increasingly assertive use of executive action could foreshadow pitched battles over the separation of powers in his second term, should he win and Republicans consolidate their power in Congress.”

That raises the question: Can you wait?

      I fear, that one of two things will happen by the end of the year…..either Obama rigs the election to win, as there as been considerable evidence to show he can do, or he will just declare martial law and install himself as our permanent Fuhrer.

      Romney isn’t an open Communist, that’s true.

      He gave us Romneycare – State-run healthcare socialism.
      He supports NDAA – Obama’s recent law that allows the president to scoop up Americans on American soil without a warrant or grand jury and hold them indefinitely.
      He recently suggested the State pay more for mothers to leave their children in the hands of others and get back to working “for dignity”.

      Not a Communist? Hmmmm…. Good point, he’s only a Progressive Socialist.

      @TXpilot,

      I agree and have been saying BHO is not going home after 2012. I predicted his election one year out and I predict he will stay in office no matter what. Polls show Mitt and BHO basically a tie. Matters not!

      This move here is just one more indication to me that this man will stop at nothing to stay in the WH! This is the time of the Socialist which BHO clearly is and so much more. He is the most radical politician we have EVER seen in the WH and he believes as well as his supporters that this is their time.

      When he says fundamentally change America he means installing a permanent dictator style government. This is why the man says the things he does with political recklessness because he KNOWS darn well he has a plan to stay in office. Forget your silly votes! They will not unseat this man.

      Vote yes…for sure, but just remember, he’s a dictator and plans on staying in office. He cannot wait to unleash the hounds on those who have disobeyed him and dissed his family. A nice sized meteror blast right over the US will give this man all the excuse he dids to delcare martial law and suspend elections.

      Was the meteror blast over Socal this weekend a happen stance or something else?

      I said that the night we heard the results. Now, I don‘t think that’s true. I think a lot of this is a show. We‘re meant to think we’re battling for our souls to elect Romney. We’ll feel so good that we got Obama out, and Romney’s in place.

      Then, over the next few months some of us will notice just how many of Obama’s cabinet members have remained, or shuffled into support roles to the new cabinet. We’ll see a lot of the same old names popping up as the heads of various agencies – agencies that will have expanded under Romney.

      I’ve been wondering a lot lately – Did people in pre-Nazi Germany walk around shouting “Anybody but Hindenburg”?

      JAYCEN…if you don’t like Romney then think of this election as a the first phase of treatment to an injured patient. First we have to stop the bleeding..that means Obama must go. Then if we don‘t like Romney’s performance…vote him out in a primary for a more conservative candidate..but first and foremost NOTHING will be accomplished while Obama’s in office..he has to go for the sake of the country.

      The mid-terms in 2010 were the American people trying to put the brakes on the democrats and Obama. They saw destructive and expensive policies being forced on them and they acted to stop that behaviour. Obama on the other hand won’t accept that. So what he can’t do today through Harry Reid, he’ll attempt to do through his czars or executive fiat. He’ll wrap it in some benign cloak about things that “must be done” for the American people and he can’t “wait” for congress to get around to it. However…we‘ve seen all too often that Obama’s policies don’t work as advertised (if at all) and are costly and harmful. When you see someone who’s actions you know will hurt others you try to stop them. This is what congress is doing but Obama is resisting and for the most vile of reasons…political points in an election year. Obama has to go..enough already.

      We know Obama’s moves. We know his people. We understand their playbook. We will be flipping Congress this year. We have a chance to hold the Obama machine back for the next 4 years with some actual Congresspeople who have testicular fortitude.

      You put Romney in, and it’s at least 2 years of figuring out where the other hand went. I think you’re playing directly into both their hands.

      We are not the Weimar Republic and Obama isn’t Hitler. How many military veterans are there that remain capable of combat operations? Our culture does not have serfdom in its history. We would never tolerate a dictatorship. Many of us are vets. No matter how old we are or how long it has been sinced we engaged in combat, do you really believe we will rollover?

      While the war stories get longer and a little further than the truth, I believe what I hear at VFW and American Legion.

      It’s so troubling to hear people not know that they ARE, in fact, serfs. Being forced to use fiat money IS, essentially, serfdom, because it allows the government to steal wealth without you knowing, through inflation.

      It’s a “back door” tax; They don’t take any money units from you – they just devalue the ones you have by printing more, and then they get the benefit of spending new money. In effect, they have transferred wealth to themselves.

      When the government isn’t causing artificial booms which must necessarily crash, their act of inflating the money supply, in effect, skims off some of your profit – most of which comes from the poor and not-so-poor.

      According to Peter Schiff, serfs paid 25% in taxes (I’ve read that it could be 50%, and even possibly any amount, actually).

      Aren’t we all missing an important factor here? BHO is not the only one on the ballot in November! What happens to GOP strategy if we take the White House, but lose Congress? We’ll be in the same boat as right now, because bi-partisanship is NOT in the Liberals’ dictionary. It ONLY happens when the GOP caves and gives the demo-socialists what they demand. A Conservative presence in Congress is still several elections away, because Progressives are on BOTH sides of the aisle.       He committed treason when he took the oath of office. He swore to protect and defend the Constitution. His taking office violated it because of the requirement to be a Natural Born Citizen. I don’t care where he was physically born, it could have been on the White House lawn, he can‘t meet the requirement because of his father’s citizenship.

      I find it amazing that people still listen to the phony Beck. He claims to look at the original words of the Founders, but dismisses this situation as a bunch of crazy birthers. There is evidence that the Founders used Vattel’s Laws of Nations while writing the Constitution. In it the term Natural Born Citizen was coined and defined. This is what they understood the term to mean. Obama (and others like him) are the reason they included that requirement.

      I don’t know if Beck is a liar or just ignorant. Regardless, he lost me as an audience member.

This will just be another election when I go into the voting booth, pick up the marker, hold my nose and fill in a circle for the Republican candidate. The alternative means a whole lot will change and I don’t like to think about that because I live in a small New England town and I know we will not get a pass.

    Obama knows his window is closing rapidly; there is more than a great chance he will lose both the House and Senate, and if somehow he keep hold of the POTUS position, he must eliminate all the ties of power held by the Congress and consolidate them into his own hands.

    This of course assumes we have not descended into the dictatorship and civil war by then.

      @Michael – agreed here, I see the probability of blood will exceed 7 in 10 by the time of May/June; with 8 in 10 by Aug at the latest if it is to occur. Bloodshed on a massive, national scale that will cause the Congress Progressives/Communists to demand that Obama declare martial law, be given special powers and he will seize on the excuse to do whatever he wants for the dictatorship.

      Look for the radical Islam from overseas to strike with the blessing of Obama as well.

      You ain’t never studied history much, have you? Take a long hard look at the Weimar Republic. Take another look at the events leading up to our Civil War. Then take a good look at what’s been happening here recently. It won’t be a civil war like the first one, but it’ll still be one, only uglier for the lack of organized groups. Not sure exactly how it’ll go, but if things don’t get a little less polarized, we’re gonna go up like a powder keg. Maybe it’ll calm down, maybe not. Personally, I’d rather be ready and nothing happen than all hell break loose and me not have a damned thing done to protect myself from losing everything. You want freedoms lost, though, I remember an article a few months back, a kid was interrogated by the Secret Service over a Facebook post he made expressing honest concern for Obama after bin Laden was killed. There’s the expansion of the TSA, which includes the warrantless searches. ObamaCare, which forces you to buy insurance or pay a fine, or if you’ve not the money for either, you spend jail time. No, that part ain’t in there, but that‘s what happens when you don’t pay fines. I’m half-asleep at the moment, or I’d actually cite the information with links, and probably give you a few more examples. And I am both sane and conservative. Get over it.

      I can‘t believe I’m agreeing with you snow. HA. I don’t usually. We are hanging ever so dangerously over the precipice, that anything can happen by November. Let’s see…May 1 is the date I believe things will begin to simmer, by summer there will be a full boil and certainly by the time of the conventions, they plan another ‘68, but as Glenn has pointed out, not necessarily 1968. Maybe, 1868 and the tensions then which were much more pointed will again infect our Republic.

      I wrote my Congressman, Gary Miller, awhile back asking for impeachment for Obama’s ignoring the Constitution, bypassing Congress and writing his writing his own legislation. Reply came back that we have been doing things that way for decades and that is now how it is done. I replied with a stern letter telling him that it must be stopped and referred to Article 1, Section 8.

      It appears that Congress is USELESS at protecting our sacred history. Replace them all this November.

    I hope everyone understands that getting him out of office is only the first step. We have to keep up the fire to the feet of whomever is that house on Pennsylvania Ave. and those that work out of the other government buildings in that city and every state capital in our nation. It isn’t going to be enough to oust this traitor. We’re going to need to oust every traitor in congress i.e. Reed, Pelosi, Waters, Wasserman-Schultz, the list goes on and on. The fight has only really gotten started. Now that we know we’re in a fight, we need to settle in for the full 12 rounds folks. We let it get this bad sleeping for WAY too long. It’s gonna at least take a knock-down-drag-out fight to get it back on track. May take several. Our kids and grandkids are worth it.

      Since mid ’80s my county gov funding from Fed&State is up from 45% to nearing 75%.

      We must do many other things as well. We must 1st return to God & the Judeo-Christian principles on which our country is founded. We must then educate our children so that they know the Lord & know who they are and the true history of the United States including where & how we went wrong & what we have done & are doing to set things right. our children must also know true world history & how corruption, not children, breeds poverty. We must change ourselves too – focus on service to our neighbours & our communities, participate in our local & national govts – only American citizens, w/ God’s help, can repair & preserve our nation. We must reclaim our culture including the media & entertainment. We must read & understand what the prophets kept telling Israel & we must actually live the Gospel: We must be willing to create & maintain local charities to help our neighbours in need, be willing to bring orphans into our families, to be fathers & mothers to children in single parent families, to know & touch the poor & disabled w/o offending their dignity. We must stop killing infants in the womb; we must value God’s creation beginning w/ people who are made in God’s image & then be good stewards of the rest of His creation. Voting the commies out is only part of what we must do. If we don’t change ourselves & our culture, if our attitudes remain the same, we will face the worse in the future.

    Does anyone out there still believe that he will step down and hand over the keys to the Oval Office even IF we have an election and even IF he loses?

    I’ll vote if given the opportunity but the outcome of an election seems already written to me.

      BHO is not going anywhere in 2012. Been sayin it for over a year now! He is a real dictator in waiting and he has been setting the stage for his coming out party…ie NDAA/NDRP. Agenda 21 will help him as well. He uses race to divide and stir the pot instead of really holding to the true values of the civil rights movement he uses past greivances to stoke the flames of racial divides and opens new wounds over Trayvon/Zimmerman case. Make no mistake! BHO stays in power even if its a landslide victory for Mitt. I really don’t think he allow it to get that far. When its clear that he cannot take any chances he’ll pull all the stops out, a false flag event of somekind will be put forth, OWS, and NBP may cause him to call for martial law. Whatever the event, he will use it to suspend elections until further notice and then begin the house cleaning and terror tactics to destroy the opposition once and for all. This is what dictators do! Just watch, you really don’t have much of a choice!

      Hey..I was going to post that too….I have him on MUTE. At the start of his speech, the words about the barbed-wire fence & the guard towers and then I found very interesting in some sentences later something like “THE PEOPLE LEFT THIS EARTH”(ah..alittle down-play?). This guy reminds me of the character Eli Sunday (movie, There Will be Blood) and watching the president & his followers, I might add, journey into an abyss of madness. The world has seen this play out many many times & it does not end well for the citizens of a country. I am still alittle “stunned” to see this being played out in this country!

      I turned of Beck’s radio show and my eyes and ears suffered through that speech. I figure had it not been an election year he would not have set foot in the Holocaust Museum. It looked as though he grimaced his way through that pandering speech. I noticed that the operator of the teleprompter must have jumped through his rear end to figure out how to type the correct pronunciation of Buchenwald because he certainly did a CORPSE-MAN on it the first time.

That will mean killing those who oppose him and his measures, because by this time there will be anarchy in the streets, looting, killing, raping, robbing the common citizen who has played by the rules and done what has been asked of them as a good citizen of these United States. They will take social justice to a new level and do it with no real control from anyone higher up.
