NY Times Refuses to Run Anti-Islam Ad… After Running Anti-Catholic Ad

Pamela Geller Submits Its Time to Quit Islam Ad to New York Times

The New York Times has rejected a full-page anti-Islam advertisement that mirrored a scathing anti-Catholic advertisement the newspaper published on March 9.

According to The Daily Caller, a March 13 letter sent by the Times to the parody’s sponsor, activist Pamela Geller, said the $39,000 anti-Islam ad was rejected because “the fallout from running this ad now could put U.S. troops and/or civilians in the [Afghan] region in danger.”

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, accused the Times of having a double standard and told  DC that The Time’s was based on “either [anti-Catholic] bigotry or fear [of Islamic violence], and they’ve painted themselves into that corner.”

DC adds:

Donohue said the frequent claims of intellectual honesty by Times employees would compel them to address the double standard if they weren’t “shameless.”

TheDC asked Robert Christie, the Times’ senior vice-president for corporate communications, if the Times’ decision is a surrender to violence and also an incentive for additional threats of violence.

However, Christie declined to discuss the paper’s decision, and referred TheDC to the letter sent by the Times to Geller and her organization, Stop the Islamization of Nations.

The original ad was created by the controversial, and often radical, Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation. The ad, “It’s Time to Quit the Catholic Church” positioned itself as an “open letter to ‘liberal’ and ‘nominal’ Catholics.”

“Will it be reproductive freedom, or back to the Dark Ages?” it asks. “Do you choose women and their rights, or Bishops and their wrongs? Whose side are you on?”

“Not a single Catholic who reads this ad will be impelled to leave the Church. That is not the issue,” said Donohue in response to the ad. “The issue is the increase in hate speech directed at Catholics.”

CNA adds more information about the anti-Catholic ad:

The ad claims that the church is “an avowedly antidemocratic Old Boys club” and derides Catholic teaching that contraception use is sinful. It also blames the Church for causing misery, poverty, unwanted pregnancies and deaths and attacks Catholic teaching on the ordination of women, parochial schools, and the Church’s response to sex abuse.

The ad, which includes a disparaging cartoon of a Catholic bishop, claims U.S. Catholic bishops’ conference has made a “declaration of war against women’s right to contraception.” The ad is featured below:

      I‘ve been looking at pie charts and statistics and it appears that members of the religion of peace are procreating faster than all the others put together so it won’t be too much longer before they can pretty much take over by sheer numbers and intimidation, even without the jihad.

      Is it really any surprise that this progressive fish-wrapper/cage-liner wouldn’t run the Islam ad? They implement selective culling and running progressive articles and ads. How are they even still operating, when so many people dropped their subscriptions? Who are their advertisers? Why not go after them, like the libs did with Rush?

    I am the furthest from religious, I mostly don‘t agree with the Catholic Church’s dogma. However, this is absolutely disgusting. As an American, even if I don’t agree with a particular religion, I respect your right to worship as you choose, just don’t force your ideology on me (that is another argument). The MSM feels though, that it decides what is NEWS and what isn‘t based on it’s beliefs and political agenda.

    Stop buying their papers, boycott their advertisers, shut them down.

    They should post this AD on a billboard right in Times Sq.

      thankyou! I seriously do not get this attitude about tearing everyones beliefs apart. I am a Jewish Christian, I do not rip others faith or lack thereof. Folks that do things like this…I equate this with renting a billboard in front of an elementary school telling children santa and the easter bunny are not real. why why why do something like this its just rude

Well…nothing good has ever come from fearing evil. We did not fear the slaveowners and we ended slavery, at great cost in american lives and treasure. We did not fear the nazi’s or the japanese empire and we freed the world at great cost in american lives and treasure.       Part of the Communist/Marxist/Socialist playbook is to drive a wedge between religion (any and all) and it’s people….get them to turn away from religious faith and put thier faith in Gov’t instead. It is but one very importrant plank in the “divide and conquer” strategy used by Communists/Marxists/Socialists. One fo the first things the Boshleviks did (post 1917) was to outlaw Religion and Religious institutions, sent clergy to labor camps or shot them outright. Many a “political disident” was disposed of in this manner throughout the Soviet Union’s bloody history. China for instance still uses the power of the police state and labor camps to control it’s citizens. Mao disposed of millions of Chinese citizens in the most cavalier and callous if manner during the consolodation period after the civil war was won by the Communists. A number of disasterous 5 year plans were implimented imnmediately which saw tens of millions starved to death as they worked thyemselves to death for the collective. Between Stalin and Mao they alone were responsible for 75 million deaths during the 20th century making Hilter and his toll of human misery/genocide look like an amateur in comparison.

They know that Christians are not a threat, though they claim they are the greatest and that they fear Islam knowing the true nature of the Religion. They are the modern day appeasers.     Pamela Geller is one of the most courageous women on the planet. She takes on Islam every day and has tried to open as many eyes as possible to the threat that Islam poses to everyone. The muslims hate her, she has death threats every day but that does not deter her.

    Bully’s never pick on someone that will fight back, and the Catholic Bishops are a bunch of weak-kneed LIBERALS who supported Obamacare! I predict they will fold on birth control coverage, then on abortion coverage, and before you know it Catholic priests will be preaching fairness of Communism.     The NYTimes is just covering their own sorry butts because they know they can defame Catholics or any Christian organization without fearing for their own lives.

    Muslums have the whole world in a strangle hold because they know people FEAR them. This is how they are taking over America, one threat and one lawsuit at a time.

      Excellent posting. My son lives in Michigan and is a member of the IBEW. I talked with him last night and he is a big Obama supporter. He also takes meals to shut ins through his parish. He is a devote Catholic. After a heated debate, I asked him this simple question: Is your belief in God, the teachings of Catholic Church and your eternal salvation more or less important than your IBEW membership? His answer surprized me. He said he would pray on it.

      Are you kidding ? Rupert is a conservative who is being targeted by the International Lefties who spew their bias in the New York Times ! The NYT routinely targets conservatives, Murdoch, Fox News, the Catholic Church, banks, Palin, oil companies, etc. All of the usual Left wing targets.

      You guys are ignorant. No wonder you’re not supporting Paul. Here’s a tip fellas, every newspaper, radio station and tv channel is owned by one of five corporations. Viacom, GE, Disney, Newscorp, or TimeWarner. There’s no such thing as a free and independent press. When Bush got into office regulations were removed and the big companies scarfed up EVERYTHING. The NYT is owned by Newscorp.
