NY Times: ‘Tumult of Arab Spring Prompts Worries in Washington’

As the “Arab Spring” rolled along, may were quick to praise the new insurgent spirit in corners of the world where freedom has not widely flourished.  Glenn Beck, however, raised continual concerns that the tidal wave of change might bring deeply troublesome outcomes.  Beck was widely criticized for his arguments — even in conservative circles.

Now, as each month goes by, the supposed promise of the Arab Spring seems increasingly fragile.  Even the New York Times is now highlighting the increasing “worries in Washington” as the “tumult” in the region rumbles along.

NY Times: Tumult of Arab Spring Prompts Worries in Washington

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told New York Times’ reporters and editors in a recent interview, that the US is facing an Arab awakening that nobody could have imagined…one that is “sweeping aside a lot of the old preconceptions.”

But the Times focuses on some of the worst-case scenarios that are now in play:

“What if the Palestinians’ quest for recognition of a state at the United Nations, despite American pleas otherwise, lands Israel in the International Criminal Court, fuels deeper resentment of the United States, or touches off a new convulsion of violence in the West Bank and Gaza?

Or if Egypt, emerging from decades of autocratic rule under President Hosni Mubarak, responds to anti-Israeli sentiments on the street and abrogates the Camp David peace treaty, a bulwark of Arab-Israeli stability for three decades?”

As relations deteriorate between Israel and both Egypt and Turkey, Washington finds itself in an awkward position as its three strongest American allies in the region are at odds.

“Diplomacy has never been easy in the Middle East, but the recent events have so roiled the region that the United States fears being forced to take sides in diplomatic or, worse, military disputes among its friends.”

Beck, as many of you know, has focused a great deal of attention on the dangerous unrest that has spread in the Middle East following the Arab Spring and how much this bodes ill for Israel.

The Middle East Media Research Institute recently reported on a delegation of Sudanese extreme Islamists who rallied in Gaza, preaching that, “The way to achieve change is through fighting, through Jihad.”

“Director of Sudanese Ministry of International Cooperation Ahmad Malek Ahmad: The way to achieve change is through fighting, through Jihad. There is no other way. Today, on Jerusalem Day, we saw the banners of the various mujahideen factions raised… You could see these banners raised by the men, whose cries ripped through the skies: “The Koran is our constitution, the Prophet Muhammad is our master, Jihad is our path, and death for the sake of Allah is our loftiest aspiration.” I wish I could have kissed all these banners…….

We’ve come here, along with the mujahid Hajj Majed, commander of the mujahideen in Sudan. He has come from Kurdufan, along with 5,000 mujahideen, in order to fight the enemy who incited against us – the Jews. Allah willing, we will be victorious. This is Hajj Majed, and he yearns to meet his death here.”

The United States and Europe raced Sunday to avert or delay the looming United Nations showdown over Palestinian statehood that could crush the already dim Mideast peace prospects. Secretary Clinton and the EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton met in New York Sunday in an increasingly desperate effort to bring Israel and the Palestinians back to negotiations without antagonizing either side or embroiling the region in new turmoil.

The Palestinians have rejected proposals put forth by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and seconded by U.S. envoys Dennis Ross and David Hale that would give the Palestinians the “attributes of a state,” including membership in nonjudicial international organizations, without actual statehood.

“It is too late now,”Mahmoud Abbas aide Nabil Shaath told The Associated Press. “The proposals (that) came to us … are not good even as a starting point.”

The crisis involving the Palestinian statehood comes as Israel’s ambassador is expelled from Turkey, and the nation’s embassy in Cairo is stormed and the one in Jordan is faced with protesters outside.

“The region has come unglued,” Robert Malley, a senior analyst in Washington for the International Crisis Group told the Times. “And all the tools the United States has marshaled in the past are no longer as effective.”

As the uprising has brought change to the region, the Obama administration watches to see what will emerge, and what threat or opportunity this brings to America and our allies.

“It’s a great opportunity for the United States, but we are constrained by budget and to some extent constrained by political obstacles,” Secretary Clinton said to the Times. “I’m determined that we’re going to do as much as we can within those constraints to deal with the opportunities that I see from Tunisia to Libya and Egypt and beyond.”

The Associated Press contributed to this article.

For decades American diplomacy, carrot and stick routines and cash flows for peace are being swept aside is how that line above should read. Arabs in the region see America as a threat to Islam beliefs and they have seen how our values undermine everyone elses. They of course are intolerant of letting the slide into the NWO for them go any further. It is they who are turning the tables on their old masters of the 20th century. It is they who have used the system that has tried to enslve them against their keepers. They abuse the laws and the welfare systems in their host countries. They began to use their mosques to funnel monies around the world for their causes. They help not the poor like Christian churches, but fund Wars and terror. Now we wonder what hell we have unleased or better yet have slept with all these years. This goes way back folks through many an administration. There is an anciet sea of fresh water right under their noses and when they figure this out they’ll have everything they need. On Hillary: This picture tells a lot about her. She is a shrewd poker playing politician. Her face is a stone fortress that will not give up its secrets, lies and deception hidden behind the mask she wears. She can play the charmer in front of the cameras but I’ll but my life its a whole different deal when she is negotiating. I can only hope she is on the side of the good guys when she is dealing with the Arabs.

On the issue of the virgins gender. The Crayon teaches that women are equal to dogs and have no souls. Therefore when I am confronted by such individuals I ask them this in that context.
” So since there are no women in your paradise, according to your own Crayon, who are these virgins? Little boys? ”

First of all, we have a Muslim in the Whitehouse, who said that if the political winds should shift in an ugly direction, he would stand with the Muslims. Hilary jumped in to help the Muslim Brotherhood take down Lybia. Then didn’t she and Obama help take out the friend of the US , Egypts Mubarack. Then of course Obama told Israel’s Bibi Netanyahu to just give the the muslims a good chunk of their already tiny country. So yep..I’d say that they are behind it all the way, and I think.. “There’s gonna be a showdown.”

Although in the end there will be only a remnant left..one third. We never could have seen ourselves going against her since she had been our ally.. so this makes perfect sense. Many of the people who frequently make comments to its articles are surely the ones involved in the “Days of Rage.“ They have been calling for ”revolution/ street action ” for months. These are the “hate the rich/fat cat ” crowd to whom the Obama re-election committee has targeted its “tax the rich” cries . Hey “Butch”! You are either very stupid or a complete imbecile!

If you have been watching the news (even the MSM) you will have seen Dems/Libs/ and Progressives (d/l/p’s), praising the “Arab Spring”! I don’t think these people are “no one.”

It is the John Birch Society, not “John Bircher. . .” and Glenn, as I recall, never used the term, however, he was accused by several d/l/p’s of being a “Bircher.”

If you state that the Middle East being a “powder keg” is and “understatement,” you are saying that you believe that it is much, much worse, and that it will blow up at any time, maybe as drastically as a nuclear bomb. Why not look words up before you use them!

Finally, “waiting and seeing” is not a solution when someone is threatening you in, their own words as recorded on video! The best defense is a good offense, so let’s GET THEM, now!

Maxists, communists and Muslim leaders aligning, are you saying this is NOT happening? Where are you getting your information? Watch the news! Now they are even talking about how they are using each other. Califate–existed in the past and Muslim leaders have stated as reported in the U.S. press and on Al-Jazerra, that they do want to return to at least a Califate in the Middle East, ultimately to be global when they take us over!

Beck was not criticized for merely expressing “continual concerns that the tidal wave of change might bring deeply troublesome outcomes.”

He was criticized for HOW he made those objections. The John Bircher Society was evoked as I recall and that wasn’t far off.

Global Caliphates and International Marxists joining forces to drain those precious bodily fluids from America…that type of stuff. Oh, and they all want to kill the Jews, too. And Islam is the devil’s religion. blah blah blah.

Nobody has just sat back and said, “Oh, the Arab Spring is just fine and dandy. Yay for democracy. Tra la la la la.”

What has been expressed, in considerably less hyberbolic terms than Mr. Beck, is uncertainity as to how this is going to play out. Which is, essentially, the same thing Beck is and has said only minus all the religious crap, gold pandering and craziness.

No one knows what the middle east will look like in a month muchless in a day.

What you, and a lot of others continue to ignore are the connections between the architects and planners who helped organize and launch the “Arab spring”; including the former CEO and co-founder of Google, as well as Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dorne, (the list is impressive in length) and others in the Obama administration. (As well as Spooky Dude).
All these connections were laid out and verified IN THEIR OWN WORDS on Glenn’s show just after the major protests began, with these players in global politics chortling about how they helped overthrow a dictator, and how wonderful democracy on the march was.
Useful idiots all, the Muslem Brotherhood threw all of them under the bus as soon as Mubarek was ousted, and none of them were invited back to help organize the new “democracy”.
Lefty progressives CAUSED this issue, and all the finger pointing by people like yourself will not change that fact, nor will it help when the enemies of Israel attack in force and start the next war in the region.

Now you have sewn the harvest of the “Arab Spring” and as you have planned, they will soon seek to establish the Palestinian state along with the destruction of Israel and her people; and the harvest of fire, blood and upheval will soon sweep into Europe and eastward into Pacific Asia.

Then we shall face the American Winter.

Understand Mr Obama, you have sewn the wind for a harvest of chaos, and now the whirlwind is to come, in fury and fire against the American lands. As you deliberatly initiated it, any blood spilled from this point on will be judged upon your own hands and head.

This president is not only turning things upside down at home but moving the chess pieces abroad and allowing our Rooks, Bishops and Knights be undermined to the point of weakness in the face of enormous and growing enemies. All that will be left are the Pawns (us) who will have to do the dirty work of defending a nation at home. It will be too late then. Americans will give each other up, no one will know what we stand for or even care to stand but only survive it. This is why knowing who and what we are is so important…..they do, they know who they are and what they fight for. We fight for gay rights and equal oppurtunity. This will not be enough when faced with ultimate extermination. People in this country had better wake up and understand they are facing a race war directed right at them and their own government is turning up the heat and allowing it to happen. America cannot be America without its historical record in tact, that record also resides in each man woman and child old enough to understand what our forefathers fought and died for in order to pass along to us. We took on the whole world in WWII a War we neither wanted nor started. In that victory much was gained and passed on to our generation. We have rode that wave for a mighty long time but now I fear the people have forgotten too much of their history to be proud of who we are…We are Freedom loving American

It is already known that China is infiltrating our computer networks here, including our military and homeland security. It is already known that the Iranian nuclear power software was subverted, putting them months behind what they considered progress. It is already known that just a switch in the wrong input in the power grid will take down part of it. Obummer knows….. never let a crisis go to waste. I certainly hope I am wrong, and if I am.. (smile) i won’t have to buy vegies for a while.. haha. but if I am not wrong… So much is going on, ?Class division, Racial division, riots in europe, flash mobs and white beat downs in parts of the US, along with no foreign policy.. The administration is certainly quiet about all of this, too quiet, even if it promotes class division. The DEBT WALL will be hit sometime next summer.. that is the point the US will no longer be able to borrow. The feds will have to print billions of dollars, interest rates will go up, go to http://www.debtwall.org. Stranges things are happening, none of them as loudly as now. Be prepared, do not be caught without. You know first thing to happen if there is a crisis, the grocery stores will empty.

I have nothing against Israel, but there is no solution to this problem. They are smack in the middle of Arab countries who hate them. Now granted this hated is mostly ginned up by the leaders of these countries. What we need to do is give the Jews Florida and the Arabs can kill each other.

There is wisdom in your words! Especially about the Arabs/Sunni/Shiites “killing one another.” What I mean by this is that there seems to be a dysfunctional gene in these people which calls the males to need to destroy/kill anyone/thing different from themselves. Am sure if there were no Jews near by, they would be killing one another – of, course after they killed the Christians, the Kurds, the……whatever! ( ” if it’s different – destroy it! )

We’ll keep Florida thank you very much.
Give the Jews New York City. They’re already there in large numbers.
The whole point if the matter is that the middle east is on fire and it is the politicians and financiers that lit the fuse.

Of course there is a solution to this problem…..we’ve known the solution before the problem was even solidified. The US has ridden the back of this tiger since…wasn’t it 1941 that we had the first agreement with Saudi Arabia. The only thing we have done is make things worse, spend tons of money, lost credibility with the Arabs and the Israelis.
This problem ultimately will not be fixed by human hands, but it will be fixed…….am beginning to think it will be fixed in my lifetime. Whatever the oh-so-smart UN decides to do, Israel’s land will belong to Israel….just not fun watching it get there.

Of course our state department is upset, they have lost control. Problem is, is that they are not supposed to be in control of other countries in the first place.

Get our troops out of the middle east NOW.

Israel has nuclear weapons, I *think* they can take care of themselves, lol! After Mecca, Medina, and Tehran are glass, if Israel still needs our help, we can talk about it.

There is a reason that there is a coming showdown between God’s special People, the sons of Issac, and the sons of Ishmael. If you are unaware of the coming war then you must read and learn.
There is no mystery to this. Come Lord Jesus…

Does anyone on here believe that the muslim in the white house will actually veto the the very thing he has been working for? If he knows he will not be re-elected, what is to stop him from his legacy? A two state solution based on the pre 67 boundries. Unfortunately for him, he does not believe the Bible, and that my friends, I expect that he will write off his election, and allow the new state. I think he has already worked out the deal, but is publicly saying he is working against it. we’ll see soon.

Good point about Herman Cain, I’m coming to like him more and more as well. It is on purpose! This is the kind of think that the likes of J. Wright and other associates of Obama dreamed about, and now it happens by stupidity? NO WAY, it is on purpose. The stupid is those that refuse to even consider this possibility.
