NY Woman Wins $1 Million Lottery After Atheist Son Issues Demand to God

Newsday

NY Post:

Not only does Jesus save — he pays!

A Long Island man proved that although money doesn’t grow on trees, it may sprout up in hymnals after he prayed for his mom to hit a jackpot the day before she won $1 million in the lottery.

And the divine intervention doesn’t stop there — the newly minted millionaire, a staunch Catholic, says the winnings have brought her heathen son back into the religious fold.

“God performed two miracles, a true miracle!” a tearful Gloria Bentivegna declared yesterday, clutching her $1 million check from the New York Lottery.

Newsday

Watch an interview with Gloria and Sal here.

WNBC-TV:

Sal Bentivegna, 26, never saw eye to eye with his mom’s beliefs, describing himself as somewhere between an agnostic and an atheist.

“She’s always wanted me to feel what she feels and the belief she has in God; but I need physical proof in my life,” said Sal, a car audio installation technician from Smithtown.

NY Post:

“God, I don‘t know if you’re real or not, but if you are there, please let my mother win a million dollars,” he cynically implored in the casino.

“It was off the cuff at the slot machines,” Sal said. “If Jesus wants me to believe in him, that‘s what he’ll do.”

It might be coincidence, but it might not. Only God knows for sure. It is sad, though, that the man demands a sign to believe. “Blessed are they who do not see and yet believe.”

He must have been a liberal. They think if the government gives them money, they have found a god, Obama. If you ask Jesus to come into your life He will and rather than wanting money to prove it, you will be ready to give some of your money to others. If that mother is the true Christian she claims to be and is worried about her son’s salvation she will be willing to give some money to those in need. We will see. Pray for all the people suffering during all of these diasters and I am sure you will receive a more lasting reward than a million dollars.

There’s been a lot of piling on done to @Liberal_Atheist_Critical_Thinker…let’s remember that the feelings people are having towards him are exactly what Satan wants – hate, loathing, etc…even when his remarks are directed to Our Lord and Savior. Instead, while we don’t have to respect him, we should treat him with kindness, as Jesus instructed, for he is as lost as the day is long. He does not know Christ because he has never truly seen Him. Take LACT out of the context of this story, that God would give someone a million dollars (which He could if He wanted to – God can and does do anything), and instead show him that God’s love is real. I don‘t know how many Christians are responding to LACT’s inflammatory comments, but we need to remember that it is precisely these comments, these attitudes that drive people away from Christ, not toward Him. And before you say anything, know there is not a more conservative commentator on this site than me, but if you are Christian now is the time to start showing it.Doing the opposite, hurling insults at this person, plays right into Satan’s hands. That’s WAY bigger than freedom of speech or anything else going on in this country right now. Remember, Christ endured the insults of his tormentors as well. Let us follow His example.

We had a friend who said he wanted to believe in JESUS, but our friend was “too intellectual” to believe in something “so simple”. One night we were conversing and I told our friend that if he really wanted GOD to reveal HIMSELF to him, to simply ask HIM. How sad that our friend was so multitalented and so gifted and had not a clue that all his talents and gifts were gifts to him from GOD. (Parable of the talents comes to mind).
So, that night he asked GOD for a sign.

GOD gave him one almost immediately ~~~ a sizable earthquake~~~. Our friend’s eyes were opened for a time, but he chose to close them in spite of what GOD had done “just for him so he would know HIM”.

I hope this young man’s eyes and the eyes of his heart are opened and remain so. The money is nice, but is a fleeting thing that seems to vaporize in front of our faces. It alone will not bring peace or happiness. We all know that, don’t we? It is only a relationship with GOD, JESUS and the HOLY SPIRIT that brings us true joy and lasting peace.

I dare anyone to try it…if sincerely…Just close your eyes and honestly confess to God that you just don’t believe in him, tell him why, and tell him but if He is indeed real as so many claim, that you really do want to know. Ask him to show you in some way. Tell him if there is a God, that you know you are a sinner, and that you know you need mercy if He is real. That you don’t want to face eternity and the judgment condemned, not knowing Christ, if he is real. Tell him the truth…He already knows it. Honesty is requred. He will answer a sincere prayer of that kind!

      LA-non-critical thinker,

The prayers for the hungry and needy have gone up, and many have reponded to God’s call, moving them to do something about it. Problem is you are not hearing his reply to move. Instead you spend your energy on bashing Him rather than doig something to help. Why don’t you go find a private graduation facility somewhere and have all the religious symbols covered up and make the attendees enter through the side door? At least that would get you out of the house. And, you won’t even have to be a member of the school district. See, one person can make a difference with a step…..backwards.

L.A.C.T., your comment simply shows your own ignorance. If in fact you may be correct in you thinking,
Who are you calling an Bastard? Your comment itself clearly shows an uncertainty in your own thinking.
Yet like all other simple minded liberals , you choose to attach other peoples beliefs for no other reason but to OFFEND THEM. This is a common ploy for a person who has know clear answer for the question you have in your own mind. I myself am a believer in JESUS as my savior, and I also believe he will not abandon you when your time comes, and as stated above, you too will come to JESUS and repent all the offensive comments you have made to only OFFEND other believers.
It is easy to sit there in total anonymity and offend others just because you have a different thought process , but rather than read and try to understand why someone else may think that way, you like all other simple minded liberals choose to offend their beliefs.
I fault you not because so many people now days had not been given the opportunity to learn about Religion or chose not to learn about it for one reason or not, and just because JESUS does not shine his light on you when you want him to prove his self, does not mean he does not exist. we all have a road to travel, and some are not as easy as others may seem to have, however we end up in the same place upon completing the trip, and will have to answer for all the decisions we have made along the way.I simply ask not to be offensive to oth

Your response to my post makes me think about the story of the “good Summaritan”. I‘m sure you’re familiar with it. Interesting who Jesus holds in high esteem (He did share the story afterall…historically). Even you, a non-believer, have to admit the reality of Jesus existence, whether as a teacher, Rabbi, or otherwise. You also have to admit that this story is full of wisdom and humanity. So, my question remains…what are you doing about it, whether spured by Gods calling or simply compassion? If spurred at all, was it by some scientific annomally, a bio-chemical confusion, or something else? Afterall, survival of the fittest has no room for beaten men lying by the side of the road. Please explain love and compassion, maybe forgiveness…from a logical and scientific perspective. Please give your answer.

What do you do for the starving and hurting masses?
      James 1:27 (New International Version)
27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

So God sent a solution into the world to help it, it was his people. Its very sad that we keep God for ourselves and so often forget those who need us. So in all honesty if there are those who are starving we dropped the ball.

Forgive his vile nature. I personally can‘t imagine how anyone could think it’s okay to ridicule something that someone else felt in this manner…by calling the object of their Belief names. What this atheist doesn‘t ’get‘ is that we’re not offended by what he says…we are SADDENED by what he says because WE KNOW what the future holds for him. It’s not punishment for not believing…it’s being put on a shelf – forever – because he had the choice (for years) and chose to deny God. So, once he dies, he is in total darkness forever, being aware that he is there but with no contact or influence on his surroundings….he is stuck in nothingness. That’s why people argue with him, hoping to spark even the tiniest light of hope. What a horrible way to live. How horrible to spend eternity on a shelf. We hope he will seek you out before he dies.

What an interesting fellow you are. In a world were most of the people believe in God you do not. Not only do you have no belief but you try to persuede believers with your rants that God does not exist. What a foolish waste of life and time. However it is your time to waste but you should remove the critical thinker part. It serves no purpose other than trolling to rant on a God you don’t believe in.

You do have a future with the progressive socialist with your liberal thinking. The Fourth Riech will need your kind.

I can believe that you really believe as you say, although I don’t understand your drive to convince everyone else of it, unless it is because you are bitter and resentful about something that involved the subject of God. But, realize that your salvation is not up to you. If by some great happening you do have a dawning and become a believer and find out what God did for you and you appreciate His great grace, it won’t be because you are so smart or exceptionial. It will be because of God’s love for you and his great tolerance of a turd like you for so long. It’s a good thing that none or our salvations are dependent upon ourselves. We’d all be sucking smoke. Thank you Father for what you did in my mind and heart. Amen.

I wonder about the existence of so-called atheists. Can they possibly exist? Who do they talk with when they are alone? Share their innermost secrets? When they lose a love one, with whom do they seek consolation if they wish to be alone? Even if it’s that little guy on your shoulder or the other occupant of your mind (or your inner self) it is still a noncorporial being. Some one only you can see or hear. It’s as good a definition of God, or a god, as any that has ever been proposed.

You missed my point. Be careful what you wish for comes to mind. Seems a truckload of cash can bring many opportunities for evil for someone who claims to have prayed for it then all of a sudden claims to have found God. I knew some people who won 10 million dollars a long time ago. Was the worst thing to ever happen to them. They paid a terrible price. Again, Satan works in mysterious ways for those who make dangerous claims like this guy.

But what does our Fathers word say to this claim that Christ provided an Atheistic believer with 1 million dollars?
1 Timothy 6 1 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
       3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

My take would be the 1m did not

There is no such thing as fate, fortune, or destiny.

Everything is predetermined by Yahweh, and we operate within the contraints of his laws of nature, which exists as an illusional figment of Yahweh’s imagination.

Finally got pee’d off and told God “that’s fine…not saying my rosary until you give me a rosary!” The very next day, just before Mass, a little old lady came up to me and gave me this cheap plastic rosary. Just handed it to me and patted me on the shoulder. I guess the idea was not the fancy expensive beads, but the prayers behind them.

God allows sin in the world and can use sin to fulfill his will.

Ah, I see many doubters here. Their reasoning is flawed though. Remember the God knows the future and the past, so isn’t it possible that God knew that this woman was going to “get lucky”, and thus put the idea into her sons head to pray for just such a thing? God didn’t make her win, but His Holy Spirit did weigh on the heart of the son to ask for this item as proof, knowing that greed was the way to win his heart. We all have the “buttons” that trigger us to get to God, the question is when God shows up will we admit that He was involved in it, or will we just dismiss it as happenstance? There is no such thing as a coincidence, it is called God timing.

We are born into sin, we’re all sinners, just ask a few questions, have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, said God’s name in vain, just a few commandments that we’ve all broken and before a Holy and Just God, we are guilty and deserve hell, all of us! The Good News is that the punishment that we deserve, Jesus took upon Himself and died for our sins to all who will repent of the their sins, (turn away) and put their trust and faith in Jesus Christ, alone! There is a difference between predetermined and all-known.
