NYC Health Board Members Suggest Regs on Other High-Calories Foods (Including Popcorn and Milk Drinks)

Because New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposed ban on sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces seems like such a good ideal, members of a board tasked with saving New Yorkers from themselves have suggested adding other high-calorie foods to the list of regulated goods.
“The New York City Board of Health showed support for limiting sizes of sugary drinks at a Tuesday meeting in Queens,” myfoxny.com reports. “They agreed to start the process to formalize the large-drink ban by agreeing to start a six-week public comment period.”
But while they were approving the sugary drinks ban, a few members suggested similar regulations on other high-calorie goods.
Board of Health member Bruce Vladeck suggested that the city limit the size of theater popcorn servings.
“The popcorn isn’t a whole lot better than the soda,” Vladeck said.
At the same time, another Board of Health member suggested that milk — yes, milk — be subject to size limitations.
“There are certainly milkshakes and milk-coffee beverages that have monstrous amounts of calories,” said board member Dr. Joel Forman.
Mayor Bloomberg said last month that all he’s trying to do is force people to understand that large sugary drinks are bad for them.
“The New York City Restaurant Association is fighting the proposal and is considering legal action of it goes into effect,” myfoxny.com reports.
“New York City voters oppose 51 – 46 percent Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposed ban on the sale of over-sized sugary soft drinks, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday,” the report adds.

While I agree people like you are not going to vote for Ron Paul I have to bring to question Ron Paul’s “inexperience” on foreign affairs.
So you think that pulling out of these endless wars hurts us?
Do you think we have the money to continue these wars?
Do the troops deserve to be in countries that hate us with no purpose?
Are our borders secure?
If we did pull back, who is going to attack us at home?
Who will protect Israel when we are bankrupt and our country is on fire?
You like us in the UN?

Ron Paul says it’s ok for Iran to have a Nuclear weapon,
Report Post »He says bring our troops home to protect our borders, that means the fight will be here, I served my country for 22 yrs. So giving the enemy a tactical advantage is alright with you? That is what this will do. The reason YOU are safe here is because we keep the battle grounds away from the U.S. We do this by heading off the enemy before they get here. People enlisting in the Military understand the way it is, and Volunteer for it. Although Ron Paul may have some great ideas his Foreign policies WILL get us KILLED that means YOU too.

Posted on June 13, 2012 at 3:25pmWOW. It took me all of 3 minutes (estimated) to determine that your link intentionally omitted a large part of rule 11 part b. Specifically, it omitted the conditions under which part b takes effect so as to argue that rule 11 part a be violated the penalty of part b is initiated. All part a says though is who the RNC is allowed to give funding to. Part b says that the RNC shall not recognize any candidate nominated in a state primary to be the Republican candidate if by that state’s laws one is allowed to vote in the primaries of multiple parties.
Here’s the full text:
Report Post »No state Republican Party rule or state
law shall be observed that allows persons who have
participated or are participating in the selection of any
nominee of a party other than the Republican Party,
including, but not limited to, through the use of a multiparty
primary or similar type ballot, to participate in the
selection of a nominee of the Republican Party for that
general election. No person nominated in violation of
this rule shall be recognized by the Republican National
Committee as the nominee of the Republican Party
from that state.

Oh boy a military man going to put me in my place.
Lets find out.
What fight will be here? Who is going to attack us? Do you understand the logistics it takes to move an army and equipment across the ocean? No power in the world outside of maybe China and Russia can do that. We have eleven functioning carrier battle groups. That is eleven more than the rest of the world. Even if troop carriers were crossing the ocean they would be sailing directly into our missiles. Our troops around the world do not prevent terrorist attacks nor would they stop a ICBM launch.
I hope we didnt pay you for your military genius.

Bin Laden is dead, we are broke, and we are losing troops there weekly for what? We didnt end official patrols in Kosovo until March of 2010!

Just a comment…when Rush announces he will be back after a “brief-obscene-commercial”…Hey, Rush is an original but can’t help but laugh when I watch on Encore old programs of “Alfred-Hitchock“ and ”Hitch” makes comments about commercial-breaks and the funny way he presents them (and including the before & after the programs) and I have to think about Rush’s sense of humor too.
Most of us oldsters were taught about food was “everything in moderation”. I remember the few times we were “treated” with pop (Mt.word)/.. . soda (other states word) was Thanksgiving & Christmas. My mom made homemade lemonade and we would drink homemade apple-cider. Personally, I don’t really like sugar/sweets….I am a macaroni & cheese & mashed potatoes kind of dessert. LOL

Posted on June 13, 2012 at 10:47amThis is such a slippery slope of stupidity . At least in the old days, the government would just raise taxes/ prices to discourage use of say, cigarettes. Now certain things will be unavailable for purchase ? This is the government‘s camel’s nose under the tent of your freedoms! Funny thing is that since people stopped smoking many have substituted food for smokes ! Gained weight but have better lungs ! Trouble is we probably now live longer and , thus, require more health care ! Ah, the government : NEVER the solution for life’s trouble – even if the Big Brother “ can I buy your vote ” Democrats want us to think so !
